The most haunting time at which to see them is at the turn of the moon, when they utter strange wailing cries; but the lagoon is dangerous for mortals then… .
If there were ever creatures more fey than these, who live in a world more ephemeral and haunted with the unspoken than the Fish and the Scorpion, they would exist only in Middle Earth. Indeed, these two (like Pisces and Cancer, and Scorpio and Cancer) do exist in a sort of imaginary Middle Earth of their own—near one of its lagoons, of course. Very few of their friends can understand them completely when they’re together, but they do understand each other, deeply … and usually divinely.
This is another of the 5-9 Sun Sign Patterns, this particular one vibrating through the Water Element, which is more mystical and mysterious, more intangible and elusive, than the vibes of the Fire, Air or Earth 5-9 Patterns. Pisces and Scorpio are magnetically drawn together by means of a silent and powerful understanding. I know a Fish and a Scorpio Eagle who didn’t have this sort of instant empathy when they met, and still do not. But that’s because the Eagle’s Ascendent and Moon are both in Virgo, opposed to the Sun of the Fish, and other mutual planets are also in negative aspect between their charts. Still, because of the natural trine between their Sun Signs, the 5-9 influence has caused them to try very hard to comprehend each other. Even when other planetary configurations dilute the trined Suns’ positive effect, there will nevertheless be much understanding, some attempt at closeness and almost never enmity or outright disharmony.
Whether the association is that of parent and child, teacher and student, friends, business acquaintances, lovers or mates, Pisces and Scorpio will usually tune in to each other’s minds like a couple of short-wave radio sets on the Eternal Now frequency. Normally (which means not always, but usually) there will be amazing telepathic communication between them, once it’s established that they are more than mere nodding or casual friends. This will be true whether they’re separated by a room or by a continent. Yes, even if they should be separated by dimensional levels, such as what is termed living and what is termed dead. Astral connection of this sort doesn’t depend upon distance for its power base, neither Earth distance nor the distance between the third and fourth dimensions of life and death, respectively.
There will be times when the two of them will wander around in a classroom, office or house without an outward sign of the realization of each other’s presence. Anyone else in the vicinity may swear the two didn’t even notice each other, for often they say very little, back and forth. The typical Fish and Scorpion frequently speak without speaking, because they share a silent sympathetic thought pattern and are therefore able to communicate without verbal contact (words are superfluous), more or less in the telepathic manner of the visitors from space who have been said to communicate with Earthlings—not quite, but with the same conceptual blueprint.
The Scorpio mother frequently knows, without being told, when her Pisces son or daughter is troubled—even why. And vice versa. The Pisces employer comprehends his or her Scorpio employee’s tension—and the cause for it. And vice versa. Piscean and Scorpio lovers and mates—or friends—even playmates (children) can sense each other’s joys and sorrows. They understand each other’s silences more comprehensively than other people understand one another’s conversation.
With all this empathy, you’d think these two would have nary a problem area to their names. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Heaven on Earth, although growing ever nearer, has not quite yet been established. The first problem in the relationship between the Fish and the Eagle is that of weakness and strength. Guess who usually wins that battle in the final inning—which is stronger, which is weaker? Don’t be afraid to hazard a guess. You know enough about astrology now to be tested.
The Scorpio is stronger, the Piscean weaker? No. It’s the other way around. Maybe you didn’t notice the structure of the question, which included the phrase in the final inning. Admittedly, Scorpio would seem at first to be the stronger of the two. They are both of the Water Element, and since water is the strongest of all the elements, for reasons I’ve told you elsewhere in this book, this means they both have the strength of endurance. In addition, Scorpio has all that Pluto power I’ve been writing about—or that you’ve heard or read about elsewhere. However, Pluto power is based, to a large extent, upon EGO. Human ego. Neptune power (Neptune being the ruler of Pisces) is based upon a force no weapon in Heaven or on Earth, in any solar system, universe or galaxy, can conquer. Its name is … humility. You notice I capitalized EGO, and wrote humility in lower case? That’s the very reason the latter is more powerful than the former, when all the scores are counted. It has a great deal to do with … many that are first shall be last; and [many that are] last shall be first. The message requires meditation.
On a human personality level, the Scorpion who starts out in a relationship with a Piscean believing that he or she can swallow this poor little Fish through the force of a stronger and more intense nature—is going to be surprised. You know how difficult it is to surprise a Scorpion. But it can be done. In a contest of wills or a contest of surprises, the Fish will spring the last surprise. And it will be a real shocker, quite unexpected.
Look at it this way. If you saw a Nature Scorpion in some sort of contest with a Nature fish, which of the two could move faster and more unpredictably? You’d rather use the Scorpio Eagle as a symbolic example? Fine. You’re on! Which can disappear more quickly, without leaving a sign or a trace—a fish in the water, or an eagle in the sky? Look. The fish is gone but the eagle … . . well, see that speck over there behind that far cloud? Use your binoculars. Now you see the speck, right? Don’t try to use your binoculars to spot the fish. Binoculars don’t work in the Deep.
I hope they don’t quarrel about money. But they might. The typical Fish is generous to a fault (if there is such a thing, which I don’t believe there is, since no amount of generosity ought to be classed as a fault) and so is the Scorpion, when it comes to close friends, family and what the Pluto-ruled call the deserving. Scorpio is unstintingly generous with these, but with everyone else the Eagle can be a trifle stingy. Pisces is not really concerned with the beneficiaries of his or her giving. Not all, but most Neptune people unconsciously follow the apple tree philosophy. The apple tree does not ask of those who enjoy its fruit—Are you deserving? Are you a friend or relative? then pull back its branches if the correct password is not forthcoming. The apple tree gives to the deserving and to the undeserving alike, for the same reason—without giving, the tree would die. This is somewhat the same way the average Piscean feels. There’s something within the Neptune heart which would wither up and die if the boy and female Fish were not allowed to give freely when the spirit moves either to do so, which can be wonderfully often.
Pisces might help Scorpio comprehend the meaning behind the Nazarene’s words, when he asked, Why are you so concerned with your riches? O! ye of little faith! You ask, what are we to eat, what are we to wear [where are we to sleep? and so on] … . . Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven [within yourself] and all the rest will come to you as well.
Since Scorpio has a burning desire to prove the truth-behind-the-truth of all religious mysteries, any Eagle will benefit profoundly from pondering those words. Only when Scorpio truly comprehends that message, with ultimate compassion, can the Fish and the Eagle travel an enlightened path hand-in-hand and heart-to-heart… . a smooth path, swept clean of the pebbles of disagreements, competition or misunderstandings. Most Pisceans truly take no thought of the morrow, sincerely believing that sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. More than sufficient, in the opinion of the majority of Fish, who are forever, it seems, becoming entangled and involved in everyone else’s troubles, in addition to their own—including those of the postman, the neighbor’s dog or cat, the grocer, the President of the United States, Aunt Samantha, an airline, and various assorted friends, relatives and public figures.
Conversely, being a Fixed Sign, Scorpio takes quite a lot of thought for the morrow. It’s a compulsion. The Scorpion Fixity pulls on these men and women (and children) to be sure there’s something stashed away for lean days—some sort of insurance in case of a blow from Fate or an Act of God (same thing). Scorps tend to look far, far ahead, in order to prepare themselves for whatever calamities might occur in the future. Cancerians do this also, but theirs is not quite the same kind of caution, because the anticipated accumulation of cataclysms, tragedies and emergencies feared by Cancer actually occur only a small percentage of the time, relatively speaking, whereas those that Scorpio precognitively senses nearly always do occur (unfortunately) right on schedule. Noah was probably a Sun Sign Scorp (or had the Moon or Ascendent in Scorpio).
It won’t be easy for the also psychic Fish to argue Scorpio out of this point of view. Even a Piscean would have made little impression saying to the Scorpio patriarch prophet, Listen, Noah—everyone thinks you’re meshugana for making such a big mishagosh about a little puddle of water that will probably dry up by morning … … . In truth, although Pisceans are much less inclined to fuss and fret about imagined future troubles than the Pluto-ruled, when it comes to a really strong hunch or intuition, the Fish may lose his or her careless, casual detachment and share the concern of Scorpio. In rare situations, that is. Most of the time, Pisces believes Scorpio stirs up a fine tempest in a teacup. There are, naturally, exceptions, but one might note that Scorpio tends to silence, followed by periods of brooding—while Pisces tends to talking, followed by periods of brooding. It’s the Neptune-Pluto pattern which either begins at variance, then trails off and meets in similarity somewhere before the end of the path—or which starts in unison (with the brooding) but trails off in a different direction before the end of the path. (This is a deep and vital meditation, worth studying, not just skimming.)
Again allowing for the exceptions; some Scorpios are, generally speaking, a shade more likely to pursue a college degree than Pisces. Just think, remarks the Eagle, what Machiavelli might have done under such pressure as I have been subjected to lately, if he had been in my place.
The Fish can’t think, because he or she isn’t quite sure who Machiavelli was. But Pisces will look it up afterward. When people tell Pisceans something, they like to follow through. Even though a Fish may scoff at college, he (or she) is secretly impressed with what others learn in the halls of ivy. That is, a Fish is impressed until it’s discovered that the Scorp with the Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate can’t comprehend how the human voice could have been recorded on a piece of quartz in Atlantis—or even if it could have been. Well, says Pisces, you see, it works something like this … . .
Scorpio Woman and Pisces Man Zodiac Compatibility
Spirit that haunts this dark lagoon to-night, he cried, dost hear me?
Silly question. Of course she hears him. If the Scorpio woman and Pisces man we’re considering are lovers or mates, and not simply friends, she heard him calling many years ago, quite probably when she was a little girl, dreaming about her soul mate … who was, she was certain, somewhere on this Earth … also dreaming of her. Where would they meet? When would they meet? How would they meet? All these questions concerned her, but never the question of if they would meet. That she knew, as she has always known many matters of the heart, the spirit and the future.
Faint though the echo might have been, Neptune also whispered into the inner ear of the Pisces man when he was a young boy, that someday, somewhere, somehow … he would meet someone who would understand the way he looked at things, who would see things, not as they are in reality, but as they might be and should be … as he remembered them to be in some half-forgotten, misty world of long ago, maybe in a dream.
Then he met all those fascinating women, proper ones, improper ones, the straight and the crooked ones, the shy and the bold ones … but they all seemed so shallow compared with the woman in his dreams. Just when he would think he had found her, she would say or do something to make him know she was not the one at all.
You can imagine, then, how he must have felt that soft purple twilight when his eyes first fell upon this strange creature, who seemed so quiet and gentle, yet in some way so strong, but most of all—so deep, not shallow. She gazed at him intently, not seductively or flirtatiously like all the others, but clearly … and unafraid … until he felt lost in cool, green water. He returned her gaze, and something happened. Later, neither of them was quite sure just what it was. They just knew it had happened.
They were falling in love, of course, in the typical Pisces-Scorpio way—actually, the way most all Water Element people do. Not with skyrocket force and bursting stars like the Fire Sign 5-9 vibration couples, nor floating in clouds as experienced by the Air Elements of this 5-9 influence, nor with the pounding thunder of two Earth Element five-niners, but drowning in mystery, as a Fish and a Scorpion quite naturally should.
Once these two have formally and officially fallen in love, Life will not ever be the same again. Life will have more depth, more meaning, more excitement and wonder than either of them ever dreamed possible, and that’s saying a great deal, considering that dreaming might be said to be an area of expertise for both Pisces and Scorpio. But Life will also hold some heartaches, irritations and frustrations. Not even the 5-9 Sun Sign Pattern guarantees absolute harmony every moment—unless they have a single or double Sun-Moon conjunction, sextile or trine between their nativities, then they might achieve something close to perfection.
Otherwise, with all their considerable compatibility—and it is considerable—there will be a learning process. He will have to learn, for one thing, the hard way, that the habit he developed over the years before he met her of using his imagination to color the facts—or of elusively avoiding direct questions—spells trouble. First of all, there’s no point in telling even the smallest white lie of convenience or courtesy to this woman. She can spot a lie of the tiniest dimension … miles away. Light-years away. Secondly, there’s nothing that infuriates her more, even though she tries not to show it, than sensing that the man she loves is holding something back from her, keeping a secret, however minor and unimportant. What makes this so frustrating is that she will expect to be able to keep her own secrets when she chooses. It’s all right for her to hold back a part of herself, but it’s one of the seven deadly sins should he do so. If the Moon was in Libra, or Libra was rising on the eastern horizon when she was born, she might be a little more fair. Otherwise not. Since the typical Pisces male prefers to keep his private affairs to himself, and be somewhat silent about his plans until he’s ready to carry them out, you can see the problem.
What kind of plans would a man keep from the woman he loves? He may be thinking of changing jobs, or quitting his steady employment to follow a career dream, but he’s not sure yet. Or he may be thinking about becoming a vegetarian, but he’s not certain that’s what he really wants, mulling over whether or not to go on a diet … whether to pull up the chickweed and plant lilac bushes … or wondering whether he should join a yoga class. It doesn’t have to be anything dark and sinister, or a threat to their relationship. But a Fish can often make it seem that way with his innuendos and evasions.
A Scorpio woman knows what she wants and where she’d like to be going, even though she doesn’t announce it to the public or talk about it constantly. She knows. And she has the necessary drive to get there—or to help him to get there. She can exhibit amazing stamina toward reaching a certain goal and her efforts can be tireless. It’s not a matter of patience and faith. Somehow those words don’t describe it. It’s better described as a sort of inner intensity that makes her persevere with sheer will to force a particular outcome she desires. Obstacles are as nothing to Scorpio.
The Fish isn’t all that intensely determined to get anywhere. He enjoys the trip and the travel too much to be unduly concerned over the destination. He’s not too sure that anything in life is worth the kind of effort that drains all one’s mental, physical and psychic energy. And so, there are times when he’ll procrastinate or move too slowly to please her. A little shaking up of his adrenalin, now and then, would be good for him. And she could stand to be softly persuaded to ease up on the intensity within. It causes ulcers, even in women. (Yes, I know she appears to be Miss Serenity herself on the surface—that’s the problem.) Her inner turmoil, however outwardly controlled, can also be dreadfully wearing on the man who loves her. Which is preferable, a volcano pouring out boiling lava, which you can at least see and avoid until it quiets down—or a volcano smoldering inside, giving you no hint when it might erupt? Smoldering volcanos make the Fish nervous. He’d just as soon, if he had a choice, avoid any kind of unpleasant situation, whether it be one hinted-to-be-on-the-way, or one already here.
He may not have a choice. As much as she sometimes quietly pressures him, as possessive as she can be on occasion when she feels threatened, as explosive as her temper can be when she’s really angry—he loves her. When you really love someone, you don’t run from the things that cause the hurt. You find a way to compromise, to work it out somehow. Because you know that the pain of loneliness is even greater, the emptiness of being without that person will be frightening. Nothing could be worse than that—nothing. So you try. And you try again. And you keep on trying. Pisces is very patient. But even the Fish can finally be unable to swim upstream against the current forever, and this man may dive down and disappear without warning. His disappearance (or hers) will only make them both miserable, so it’s better to try a little harder.
Lots Of love affairs and marriages can’t survive storms, but Scorpio is determined to keep the relationship intact, through her incredible will power. Pisces has the same tenacity when he loves, but it’s less fierce, more gentle and soothing, and he can think up more imaginative ways to steady the ship against the waves. Oddly, and unfortunately, although both of these people have a sound and sane sense of humor, neither laughs too long or loudly when the joke is on him—or her. The well-known Neptune self-effacement and humility seem to run a little dry occasionally in this area. As for Scorp, when did a lady Scorpion ever roar in amusement when the laughter is directed toward her? Never.
The Fish has his own personal and highly individual ideas of how to achieve security for himself and his lady. She may be concerned that he drifts too frequently from one thing to another—or that he doesn’t have enough ambition. He will tell her that if he did it by the rules, if he had taken a correspondence course, grabbed a few degrees, read self-improvement books, minded his own business and behaved himself … … . he might have made it to third assistant manager at a drugstore in a shopping center, without the authority to give change at the cash register.
A Pisces man can talk his way out of just about anything. Except a lady Eagle’s disapproval. Therefore, with her he’ll try a different Neptune illusion. He’ll flatter her, present his side sweetly and tell her how much her opinion means to him. But that won’t work either. Eventually, he’ll learn that the only effective way to deal with his Pluto-ruled woman is to level at all times—to have the courage of his convictions, yes—but to never try to avoid the issue with charm (or any other Piscean weapon). A Piscean is the kind of man who is offered a job taking tickets at a series of outdoor concerts for one hundred dollars every night it doesn’t rain. Then it pours for twenty-three consecutive days. The Fish have that sort of luck. So a Pisces male shouldn’t press his luck too far with a female Scorpion. He doesn’t have a lot of the stuff to spare.
Sometimes, a Scorpio woman may cry in the middle of physical closeness with her Pisces man. It’s because she senses they can never really be completely themselves except during their intimate moments. Away from each other’s embrace, there are all sorts of inhibitions and outside influences, but when they’re experiencing Oneness, it seems like the answer to everything in the world—in their world, at least. When they’re alone together, she knows how much he needs her, she knows she gives him peace … … and that gives her joy. It’s good for a man and woman to know they give each other both peace and joy. He thinks he pursues her in their physical relationship, but she pursues him just as often, although he seldom realizes it. Even when she pretends to be detached, it’s so that he will want her all the more.
It’s hard for these lovers to be all the way honest with each other. But it doesn’t matter. They’ll quickly guess each other’s games, then pretend they haven’t guessed. Leaving something unspoken adds a mystical quality to their lovemaking. There’s often a silence to the sexual expression of Pisces and Scorpio that allows them to say more to each other than if they spoke a thousand and one words. Water is still and deep… . when nothing disturbs it. So is physical love between these two of the Water Element. It may be this quality, or it may be something more inexplicable, but it’s very special, whatever it is … a quiet passion, with an intensity behind it, waiting to grow … as their love grows.
I once heard a physician describe a delicate operation he once watched, on an injured hand. He remarked that the patient wouldn’t have to worry about a scar, because the surgeon was painstaking, took his time, and made sure the scar would fall in one of the natural creases of the wrist, where it would never be noticed.
It’s sort of like that with the Pisces man and the Scorpio woman when it comes to the normal wounds of any man-woman relationship. There may be some scars in their memories, but they’ll be in the natural creases. These two know how to love all the way, and that’s the very best way to love. But she must learn from his Neptune wisdom how to forgive. He does it so easily, almost casually. She does it at great cost to her proud spirit. Just as he must learn from her the ability to weather storms, and know—not hope—that the ship will make it safely to shore.
She can teach him self-confidence, the quality he most needs to master. He can teach her faith and trust, gently lead her to see that suspicion doesn’t rhyme with serenity, but with sadness. For whether he ever wins the Pulitzer Prize or not, he is a poet. If she believes in him, he just might win it. Or maybe the Nobel Prize, like Piscean Albert Einstein. Or, best of all, Life’s greatest prize—happiness.
Scorpio Man and Pisces Woman Zodiac Compatibility
Perhaps it is tell-tale to divulge that for a moment Hook entranced her, and we tell on her only because her slip led to strange results. Had she haughtily unhanded him (and we should have loved to write it of her), she would have been hurled through the air like the others.
The strange result the Pisces woman’s enhancement with a Scorpio man leads to, more times than not, is love—followed by marriage. If not that, an intense and usually never forgotten affair. At the very least, her submission to that first moment of enchantment will lead to a strong and lasting platonic friendship. Unless, of course, they have severe afflictions between other planets in their horoscopes. It’s a rare 5-9 vibration Sun Sign Pattern that ends in either active dislike or coolness. These two were, assuming all other planetary configurations are supportive, made for each other. We needn’t consider the platonic friendships between them, for here we’re discussing only the Neptune woman and the Pluto man who love. The neutral relationship of the Fish and the Scorpion (or Eagle) as it relates to close friends, business associates and relatives, we’ve already covered at the beginning of this chapter.
If the aspect between their mutual Suns and Moons is a conjunction, a sextile or a trine, their love is potentially a gift from the gods, as with any other 5-9 Sun Sign couple. Yet, sadly, some Pisces and Scorpio men and women who are so blessed allow secret fears or procrastination to dim the glory that could be theirs for the asking. If they don’t open their eyes in time, the gods could retract their blessing of grace to these two, and what might have been a beautiful relationship for a lifetime—and beyond—ends in separation. There are several reasons for such a tragedy … yes, often a tragedy because, once this man and woman have really loved, in wholeness, the memory of it may linger unto death, and afterward.
One of these reasons is that either or both may be committed to another when they first meet and know—therefore, one or both may lack the courage to confess the sudden recognition of their hearts, seen through the windows of their eyes, because of a sense of duty. Sometimes, a mistaken sense, because the mate to whom the loyalty is given is the loser, after all, since to possess someone whose true heart belongs elsewhere is a lonely kind of possession. This is not an advocation for either adultery or divorce; it’s an attempt to point out how to avoid both, for men and women do make mistakes, and are ofttimes led astray by their feelings, only to discover later that they should have waited until they felt a deeper passion on all levels of human emotion, rather than having settled for a lesser love of one dimension only. The old-fashioned warning that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure is not really old-fashioned or outdated, but an eternal, ever-now wisdom. As mentioned elsewhere in this book, those whom God hath joined together are not two people who rushed into commitment before they were wise enough to choose. Human relationships are always intricate, especially between Pisces and Scorpio, and often only those directly involved can know the extent of the emotional complications. Outsiders cannot judge the truth of matters as they appear on the surface. Karma is a deep well, which cannot be fathomed at a glance, or in a casual moment of analysis. There is no way to translate even mental unfaithfulness into an act of goodness. It is pure negative. Yet there can be no unfaithfulness where there is truth, for unfaithfulness is dishonesty. Truth can solve any difficulty, when it’s faced with openness and compassion.
Sometimes children or other considerations prevent the Pisces man and Scorpion woman from being together, and the tie must be cut. When this happens between a Fish and an Eagle the pain is usually felt deeply, a pain that even Time may never completely heal. It’s just this sort of situation in which, for complex astrological and karmic reasons, and certain nuances of character and personality, Pisces and Scorpio lovers frequently become involved. Some solve it through the cauterizing effect of honesty. Some don’t.
The female Fish and the Scorpion who don’t face any of these problems (or who solve them together) have an excellent chance for a lasting relationship in which there’s seldom a dull or boring moment. However, one additional warning: If the foregoing reasons for disharmony are avoided, these two may still be tested for worthiness by their own Higher Selves or the karmic masters, and may be called upon to overcome powerful temptations toward excesses in various forms, such as drugs, alcohol—unwise involvement in the darker side of the occult—or sexual promiscuity. These are the dark chasms ever waiting to trap the unevolved Neptune-and Pluto-ruled people who have blended their sensitive auras.
Once this man and woman have surmounted such soul testings—or in those cases where none of these obstacles to harmony exist from the start—life is a symphony of serenity and joy, peace and pleasure. There will be, naturally, some percussion in the movement of their romantic concert; not all the passages will be played by flutes and violins. A Scorpio man has a strong will, intense feelings and deep convictions, and will strenuously resist any attempt to lead him anywhere he does not wish to go, both symbolically and literally. He will also be more than a little suspicious. Yet, for all his suspiciousness of her, he’ll expect to be trusted implicitly, not just sexually, but in all his judgments of matters pertaining to both of them. It’s a bit selfish of him. Actually, it’s very selfish of him. But the female Fish won’t resent his dominant male double standard as other women might (and probably would). There will be isolated instances where the Pisces female will become a regular Whale-type Piscean, possess these flaws herself, and swallow (or try to) the Eagle who dares to criticize or reform her, but as usual, we’re studying the typical or average Neptune-Pluto relationship.
The average Pisces woman won’t panic over her Scorpion’s occasional manifestations of male macho. She may even be secretly amused, and in any case, she can handle it. All the while he believes he’s getting his way, she’ll be sweetly and smoothly bringing him closer to capture in Neptune’s fragile-strong net. In a far deeper sense than the Libra female, this woman possesses within her every single feminine wile man has feared since Eve, and a few more that are uniquely hers alone. Even the awesome power and penetration of Pluto is faint armour against her Total Womanhood. The Eagle burns to solve every worthwhile mystery he comes across (those that aren’t worthwhile, he coldly ignores), but the feminine mystique mystery of the Neptune woman will elude him, always just out of reach … which will chagrin and subconsciously torture him in a large way. (Nothing Scorpio ever experiences is experienced in a small way.) Yet, paradoxically, such is the very lure that magnetizes him toward this creature of many moods, many auric colors and many shades of both sensuality and purity. Although it frustrates and confuses him, nonetheless it draws him ever closer and closer to her, in an attempt to penetrate the depths of her secret self.
One thing about her which may not draw him closer, but may instead drive him into Pluto’s dark moods or into a sullen, ominous retreat, is her tendency to nag. Not in a harsh or shrill manner. A female Fish doesn’t do that. She beats you with a feather, nagging softly, almost tenderly, unobtrusively. Unobtrusive, that is, to most males, but the Pluto man’s emotions are so finely tuned he can pick up nuances in her wave length of which other men would be blissfully unaware. Like a drop of water, dripping steadily, she can wear down a man’s resistance so gradually he’ll barely notice. This one, however, will notice. After steady exposure to her drip-drop of subtle suggestion, he may react with the sort of flash flood he’s capable of releasing when he loses control over his great self-discipline and poise. It’s dangerous to bring on the flood of Pluto anger. It can drown their love. For he will say cuttingly cruel things that tear apart her vulnerable feelings, whereas she can drive him to despair and futility with her excessive tears . . fears . . and elusiveness, despite her seductive mystery charisma. If she’s a Whale-type Piscean, and seriously threatens his manhood, he’ll leave her, though it tears him in pieces, before he’ll sacrifice his integrity as a man or allow his soaring Pluto spirit to be harnessed.
Yet after he’s left her, if she learns her lesson, he may return. He might not return to another woman, but this one haunts the wakefulness of his sleep … and the sleep of his wakefulness … in a way that even he will never completely fathom. As with all 5-9 vibrations, breaking up may mean repeated making up. The time between separation and reconciliation may be measured by the brief span of a few hours or days, sometimes in terms of weeks or months, sometimes years. That’s a long time to wait, but both Pisces and Scorpio souls are patient, and inured to the sacrifices necessary to seeking the ultimate. Instinctively, they each sense the magnitude of the rewards for tenacity in the heart’s faith.
Whatever disharmony may periodically occur through their emotional chess games, angry spats and pouting silences, the happy times will outnumber the unhappy. The combination and ecstasy they exchange in their sexual intimacy welds Pisces and Scorpio together invisibly, but very surely. If there is a Sun-Moon conjunction, sextile or trine between them in addition to their trined Suns, once this man and woman have loved in a physical as well as emotional and mental way, each of them will admit, if they’re honest with themselves, that no other experience with anyone else in the past could come near equaling it, nor could any in the future. Ever. That’s a pretty good reason for remaining together, when you both already know there could be no greater heights to reach than the heights to which you’ve already climbed. The silent intensity and complete concentration of his lovemaking—the miracle of her willingness to both trust him and surrender her whole self to him—when such magic as this is interwoven into the natural passion between a man and a woman who love each other, desire can travel in no other direction save a circle … always returning to its genesis.
When the vibrations of Pluto and Neptune rise to an intensely emotional level, the subject of death may enter the periphery of the relationship. It may touch them closely … or distantly … maybe manifesting simply in an involvement in reincarnation and other various matters generally pertaining to death. Only one example (and there are many) was the powerful bond between actress Elizabeth Taylor and actor Richard Burton, in which the death of Elizabeth’s husband, showman Mike Todd, played a major and mystical karmic role of Destiny—a role they did not fully realize or comprehend. The essence of death as created through the haunting and haunted blend of Neptune’s and Pluto’s combined pulsations is not an ordinary, but an extraordinary, kind of experience. It invariably contains an air of the compellingly mysterious and inexplicable.
The only really important cause for unhappiness between the Neptune woman and her Eagle (all others are trifling)… . the only danger that ever threatens these two who should find only supreme fulfillment together … is never incompatibility, but the selfish aspect of human emotion lurking behind their devotion to hold them prisoners of their own desire natures. It could be a hasty word, too late regretted, a lack of awareness of each other’s carefully hidden yet quivering sensitivity … sometimes unjustified suspicion and jealousy … . damaging escapes from pain and despair, such as drinking and drugs … . or perhaps some mild form of deception or feigned disinterest that deeply wounds the other. How sad, that this man and this woman should ever forget the beauty of their love’s beginning chords, when the curtain first rose on the drama of their trined and singing Suns.
