… not three of them, but four!!
Sagittarians aren’t always loud and active, out aiming their bows and arrows to shoot down hypocrisy and falsehood. Some of them are quite timid and introspective, almost owlish, with a decided pacifistic attitude—that is, they are pacifists who sometimes use their fists to put across their points about peace. (Is that a word—pacifistic? It is now.) Yet, even these will speak with blunt candor when their opinions are sought. Timid or pushy, all Sagittarians gaze at the world through the measuring eye of truth. What I’m attempting to make clear is that Sagittarius is a double sign, half-horse, half-man. There are two distinct types of Archers: those who take after the front end or human half of the Centaur—and those who take after the rear end or equestrian half. You may have met both types. I have.
By now, everyone knows that Gemini is also a double sign, symbolized by the Twins, dual in personality, multiple in word and action, myriad in Nature. Do you have any idea of the task involved in sorting out all these identities for the purpose of describing one complex relationship between just two people? The math alone is discouraging.
That Sagittarius friend or neighbor you have, think about him (or her). He-she may have a gift for zinging out the tactless verbal arrow of truth, yet is he (or she) the kind of Sag who acts like Bashful, of the Seven Dwarfs, at a party? All Jupiter sons and daughters are bright and witty, but the rare shy ones may hide it and can be almost self-effacing in front of strangers. Please note that I said the rare shy ones.
Now, skip to Winston Churchill, of the merry, twinkling Jupiter eye; Kenneth Branagh, the British actor and director (an authentic textbook-type Sagittarian); elfish Mark Twain; the quiet (relatively quiet) Charles M. Schulz, the Peanuts cartoonist; and, finally, move along to the last friendly puppy dog you saw wagging its tail (all friendly dogs are Sagittarians, by spiritual birthright) and tell me what they all have in common. (Throw in Bette Midler, if you feel like it.)
All right, I’m an astrologer, I’m supposed to tell you. They have in common honesty, youthfulness, refreshing candor, wisdom and wit—and awkwardness, intermingled with gracefulness. I guess we can take it from there, keeping in mind constantly that although every Archer possesses these qualities, some of them are extroverts deluxe and some are introverts deluxe. Be sure you remember that, please, because I’m not going to interrupt the main body of this chapter to remind you again. I don’t want anybody to read this and keep interjecting: But Marvin is so quiet—or Mildred is so shy. It has now been established that some Sagittarians are quiet, timid, and shy. But more of them are talkative and outgoing.
I get the feeling we are back where we started in the first paragraph, but we may have advanced slightly. You always face this astrological problem when dealing with the double signs. Thankfully, there are only three: Gemini, Sagittarius, and Pisces. Well, maybe you could throw in Libra. There are two sides to any set of Scales.
As for Geminis, they have no traits in common whatsoever, except the fact that each one of them is a double-mirror image, has two or more dispositions and personalities, which he or she can change as naturally and as quickly as you or I can change from swim suits to sweaters on a day when the wind can’t make up its mind.
Gemini is Air, Sagittarius is Fire, and the back section of this book will tell you how these two elements mix. Quite superbly, most of the time. Disastrously, at others. But generally speaking, they do get on fairly well. Gemini can incite Sagittarius into action—both negative and positive—that the Archer would never have taken without being stirred by the Twins. Air always fans Fire into higher flames. Sagittarius can make Gemini feel smothered occasionally, because fire burns out the oxygen in the air, but it can also warm it.
This is a 7-7 Sun Sign Pattern, so naturally, each is slightly envious of the other, because each possesses qualities the other does not have, but would secretly like to cultivate. Gemini needs the Archer’s high motivation, ideals, warmth, enthusiasm, and sincerity—and needs also the Sagittarian’s ability to travel over more terrain mentally, emotionally, geographically—to shoot for a star, and reach it.
Sagittarius longs for the cool poise and charm of Gemini, the talent for keeping the foot out of the mouth, for remaining cool and detached in the face of most disturbing situations, and especially needs the Gemini verbal adroitness, called tact.
When they get together, they have two choices. Each can admire the opposite traits of the other, and try to imitate them, in order to grow and mature spiritually. Or—each can fear and envy the opposite qualities of the other, and try to put them down, robbing each other of all pride in doing his (or her) own thing.
Both Gemini and Sag (pronounced to rhyme with badge) tend to be scintillating, rather than solid—clashing and daring, rather than dependable and enduring. Both have minds capable of high intelligence, but not necessarily designed for achievements of lasting design and construction (unless other planetary configurations in their birth charts give this quality—which, of course, in a number of cases, they do).
The ideas of both are more like shooting stars or comets than steady Suns. What can be accomplished in a few days by Gemini and Sagittarius will often be brilliant, but a project involving longer periods of time and effort may not come off so well, unless there are the just-mentioned supportive planet positions of strength and patience in the nativities. For knocking around together, instant empathy and general compatibility, the glittering Mercury-ruled and the benevolent Jupiter-ruled get along exceedingly well most of the time. But there’s always the chance that sly Mercury (Gemini) may be unable to resist tricking sincere Jupiter (Sag) in some way, and the resentment of this may be violent (the Archer being of the Fire Element).
Sagittarians, while excessively emotional at times, are for the most part without guile. The clever, glib Gemini who plays mental chess games with the trusting Archer may later regret the harm done to another human being, however unintentional. According to ancient legends, the gods feel a special affection for these Sagittarian children of the zodiac, watchfully protecting them from those who would harm them. This is the basis for the so-called Jupiter luck. A word to the wise is said to suffice, but not all Geminis are always wise, just clever—sometimes too clever and the Mercury Bird may, when least expected, trip in his (or her) own trap.
Gemini’s quick wit, swift intellect and ease with words can seduce occasional Mercury Birds into becoming con artists supreme, tricky car salesmen and politicians, swindlers, drug pushers, or just plain, old-fashioned crooks. Yet, these very same qualities allow many Twins to become excellent teachers, literary geniuses, creative artists and musicians, clever mathematicians, brilliant scientists, and sincere and convincing salesmen of all manner of things. The Gemini duality calls these men and women in both directions. They’re pulled on by both their Twin Selves, between day and night, dark and light, wrong and right—a spiritual struggle that continues, in a mild way, even with the prosaic, ordinary Geminians.
Most Geminis are far too intelligent and too fond of their freedom to risk apprehension and confinement by breaking the law, but those who do flirt with antisocial activities lean toward the light-fingered crimes, such as twirling combination locks on safes, forgery and counterfeiting. Seldom will a Gemini be guilty of homicide, although the Twins may be an accomplice to murder. The Gemini criminal prefers to mastermind the crime and delegate the authority for the action to others, the tendency of all Mutable Sign people.
There are always a few scattered and very rare notable exceptions that prove this, or any other rule, but only the smallest fraction of those confused souls who commit murder are Geminis. Killing requires more raw physical aggression than most Mercury-ruled people are able to muster. Violence offends the sensitivity of the average or typical Geminian.
All Geminis, of any age or sex, possess active, fertile minds, always operating at high speed, and never mind the quietness and placidity you notice in the surface personality of the one Twin who appears to be dominant in the Mercury personality. As quiet and placid as he or she may be, the brain is constantly busy, busy, busy. Don’t judge a Gemini by his (or her) speech patterns alone. Carefully note the results. Somehow, things get done, and they get done fast, when Gemini chooses, however slow-appearing the outward activity may be. The pose of slowness is totally deceptive. The bottom line is what counts.
In fact, many Geminians deliberately choose just such a disguise to fool people. They allow the quiet Twin to be the front for the Mercury personality, and keep the swift, super-smart, restless Twin in the background at all times, directing the strategy, all unsuspected by the astrologically unenlightened. Notice the eyes of the deceptively quiet ones. You’ll see a continual twinkle, a quick darting look, taking in the scope of any situation in a glance. The eyes tell the story.
The essential and basic nature of Mercury-ruled people is very much like that of the Jupiter-ruled people—sunny, cheerful and optimistic (though Gemini is never as naive as Sag, even in youth). Later in life, both become cynical in varying degrees, yet somehow, still retain a certain childlike hope. Yes, I know that’s contradictory, but the character of all double signs is contradictory. D-o-u-b-l-e. D-u-a-l. Two things at the same time. Simultaneous non sequiturs.
As for the poor Archers, they are not always quite so persuasive as Gemini, and frequently find themselves in hot water when they blurt out uncomfortable truths. Not that Sagittarians aren’t charming. They possess oodles of rain-fresh, dew-drenched charm, but it quickly loses its power when they begin to fling a string of stinging words with very little subtlety or tact. Blunt is the word for Sagittarius, and bluntness doesn’t win ball games. At least, not as many ball games as may be won by the verbally graceful and mentally adept Gemini, who often wins on sheer glibness alone. Gemini can be cutting in speech also, but only when he or she chooses to use the weapon of sarcasm.
Sagittarius is usually incapable of sarcasm. The Archer’s sharp speech hurts only because of the ring of reality most people don’t want to hear. Sarcasm requires a certain kind of twisting of the truth to make the truth clearer than Sag is normally capable of either handling or comprehending (unless, of course, the Archer’s Moon or Ascendent is in Gemini).
It should be pointed out that those rare, quiet Sagittarians and Geminis who are keyed to a lower pitch (outwardly) than the large majority of Archers and Twins are seldom silent when they’re together. Gemini has a way, by sheer auric vibration, of fanning the mildest Sag into a flaming spell of an unaccustomed monologue of words—sometimes happy and enthusiastic, at other times angry. In a similar manner, the Archer can stimulate a desire in the meeker (on the surface) Geminis to be more loquacious. But after these two have incited one another into conversation, they may not really listen to each other. They may appear to be listening, but actually, one is only waiting for the other to finish talking, so he (or she) can put across a contradictory opinion. A dramatic disagreement between them can get pretty noisy, with the need for a third party to referee. Or—one of the two will completely subdue the other, in which case, the subdued one will seek freedom from such restriction at the very earliest opportunity. In other words, leave. Sometimes, permanently.
Sagittarius tends more to inflict emotional blows to Gemini (although the Twins will make an attempt to hide such wounds behind a mask of cool boredom and disinterest) and Gemini is more likely to succeed in bending the Sagittarian mind into strange shapes, sometimes causing mental depression in the Jupiter person.
When these two (or four) are in harmony, however, through a positive Sun-Moon interchange between their birth charts, they can be fun to be around. One is always trying to top the other, and they’ll also help each other over the rough spots, finding ways to express themselves, and to communicate, which is like a private language between them.
Often, Sag and Gemini will speak to each other’s minds and hearts through music, poetry or art—or even body language (which is a very valid form of communication, and can be most eloquent). They reach out toward one another over waves of invisible enthusiasm and excitement … dreaming impossible dreams together … looking for four-leaf clovers … and finding them surprisingly often (thanks to Jupiter luck, and Mercury visual alertness) … reflecting, in their eyes, a soul comprehension of the mutual need and desire to imitate which all polarities influenced by the 7-7 Sun Sign Pattern recognize, somehow sensing that they are opposites, seeking to blend into completeness through communion with each other.
Gemini Woman and Sagittarius Man Zodiac Compatibility
They broke into a bacchanalian dance, which brought him to his feet at once; all traces of human weakness gone, as if a bucket of water had passed over him.
When the Twins (two personalities) of the Gemini girl-woman break into a dance of delightful distortion and deviousness, right in front of the sincere eyes of the trusting Sagittarian, this man can, at first, feel oddly impotent—mentally and emotionally, if not physically. Then, suddenly, he’s aroused into meeting the obvious challenge of duality with which this female is teasing him.
In many ways, the Sagittarian Archer is a remarkable man. He has extraordinary vision and warmth, he is thoughtful and he is fluent. Hearing him speak of his ideals, awash in enthusiasm, is a very special experience to the alert Gemini female, who simply must be intellectually fascinated to be able to fall in love. He’ll tell her some of his accomplishments (Archers are never overly modest) and many of his dreams, and he’ll always be frank with her, sometimes mercilessly frank. If he doesn’t quite answer all her requirements for a lover or husband, well—it’s only fair to point out that no man ever does—or ever will.
As with all complex personalities, the Sagittarian man will grow to know the Gemini woman only slowly. She withholds various fragments of her multiple nature, allowing him to peek at but one at a time. When he first meets her, she’ll definitely withhold. She’ll project only one Twin, the one capable of charming him, naturally. She could even behave in a rare—for her—monolithic manner, listening pleasantly, but seldom chattering or interrupting. What a perfectly delightful feminine creature she is! And it’s true. A Gemini girl-woman (it’s more accurate to call her girl than woman, at any age) is perfectly delightful. But as for feminine, we must always remember that Gemini is essentially a masculine sign in astrology, although Mercury, her ruler, can change sex in the twinkling of an eye, to fool onlookers. Still, masculine is masculine, whatever that means today. With this girl-woman it means she is usually quite determined to get what she wants—also exceedingly capable of getting it. The trouble is, being cursed with twin desires and dual motivation, she is never sure exactly what she wants. What she longed for on Monday may be faded and unattractive by Thursday, perhaps even as early as Tuesday (of the same week). Often, she’s torn between not only two sets of possible actions, but two sets of possible reactions. Should she say yes or no? And further—will saying either make her happy—or unhappy? He should have a little sympathy for her. Life is never easy for this woman, and love presents a problem of even greater dimensions. Then, when she does try to explain her many-faceted emotions to the Sagittarian man she is finally decided to trust, she risks being accused by him of insincerity and deception. Is that fair?
Frank, open-hearted, and honest, the Sagittarian man is sometimes intolerant of a female he believes is not all these things herself, never mind the clever Mercurial excuses she offers. Yet she might argue back, quite correctly, that he also has two sides—for he is bold, daring and restless, and at the same time sensitive, impressionable and retiring—or rather, at different times. His two sides manifest themselves in varying moods, his likes and dislikes are very pronounced and he’s extremely susceptible to tension or disharmony in his environment, especially in his love relationship. This means he can be a little edgy, easily set off by Gemini airy circumlocution into a fiery Sagittarius explosion. So it’s no wonder that she may prefer to keep some things back, and allow herself to be called deceptive, rather than risk walking the plank of his disapproval. When Archers express their disapproval, it can be brutally blunt and to the point, hurtful in the extreme. This sort of thing, after being repeated several times, can trigger her into sharpening the famous Gemini verbal weapon of sarcasm, all of which can cause the love nest to shake a bit, with the Mercury Bird causing the Centaur to become mentally confused, and he, in return, slashing some deep wounds in her fragile emotions.
However, if their Sun-Moon aspects are harmonious (conjunct, sextile or trine) these little differences of opinion and techniques of controversy will almost always end up in poetic (her) and dramatic (him) declarations of renewed devotion. It’s all very romantic. But a square or opposition between the Sun of one and the Moon of the other can cause constant bickering and ruffling of feathers, which could grow into more serious confrontation as the years pass. Considering that we’re discussing Gemini and Sag, we’d better amend that last sentence to say as the months pass, even the weeks. These two signs always manage to increase both Life’s—and Love’s—rate of speed.
Her soaring flights of fairyland fancies can be too intangible and mystical for him. There is little or no impracticality in Jupiter visions. Most Sagittarians are capable of foreseeing and prognosticating the outcome of a plan from its initial inception. Most Geminis are not, and she would do well to imitate those qualities in him which she lacks, among them constancy of purpose and single-mindedness. Being Air, she is cooler emotionally than this man, whose nature is more fiery and passionate. Therefore, he may be the more affectionate of the two in the physical expression of love—more in need of the touching things. She would be happier if their minds touched more often.
Sexually the two of them possibly could reach a rare harmony of mutual experience through their lovemaking, because the ultimate meaning of sex is the fulfillment of an intense desire for each person to blend with—to actually become—the other, inasmuch as this is an earthly possibility, in order to achieve Oneness of spirit, mind and body. No two people can be more successful in this than this man and woman of opposite Sun Sign polarity, since sex between them—as with all 7-7 influenced lovers—is always based on their basic mutual need to become each other, and therefore, to become a more complete person.
With some Gemini-Sag relationships, a sort of truce is managed, causing very little quarreling to be observed or heard by friends and neighbors. (I won’t say by families or relatives, because neither one of them is excessively devoted to blood ties.) When such periods of peace and quiet are observed, it can usually be credited to her Gemini talent for escaping anything unpleasant. Her power to resist obstacles or to push disagreeable people aside is not great at all, but her magnificent sensorium, or network of sensitive nerve signals, often warns her in advance of approaching thunderstorms, so she can duck under a tree and avoid getting wet, or being struck by lightning.
She sidesteps the issues with her Mercury agility, or simply pretends not to understand why he is so upset—and after a while, the typical Archer will give up trying to pin her down to a discussion that actually goes anywhere. It always winds up twisting in circles, which doesn’t bother her—she loves circles—but which can leave him mentally and emotionally exhausted. So he could retreat more and more into the newspaper, go out—or go to bed early—and alone—while their communication suffers.
This isn’t the best possible state of affairs, of course, but it does make them more desirable neighbors than the type of Gemini-Sagittarius couple who argue all night, expressing every disagreement loudly and clearly. It’s seldom that these two will love without some amount of tension, however excellent their Sun-Moon aspects. Their basic natures are not the kind to suffer in absolute, masochistic silence. Since they constitute a 7-7 Sun Sign Pattern, there are always all those opposing qualities which have to be balanced, and balancing is an art which is mastered only after long practice. Ask any tightrope walker in a circus. Of course, so much balancing can wear them out from time to time, but it’s better to wear out than rust out, as many lovers do, who have nothing in common at all, not even a mutual desire to adopt each other’s different vices and virtues. Gemini and Sagittarius do have some things in common. They both like to read and they both like to talk. But she colors what she reads with her vivid imagination, and he sprinkles his talk with more truth, perhaps, than she wants to hear or dares to face.
She believes the world should be a better place, and her weaving bits and pieces of colorful imagery distorts the truth of existence just enough to make it so for her. Is that wrong? To him it is. He wants the world to be a better place also, but he’s convinced that you first have to face the facts square-on before you can hope to change them. In this, they differ deeply.
This man and this woman can find much happiness in their relationship if it is also a marriage of mutual endeavor, like a husband-wife team involved in publicity, publishing, the arts, science or medicine. The excitement of the dream will carry them through any minor squalls. When their eyes are fastened on the stars, instead of constantly on each other, they can make a fabulous team, in every way. In Greek mythology, it’s said that Mercury gives joy to Jupiter. Likewise, Gemini can give to Sagittarius—great joy. What can he give her? He can give her the gift of slowing her down, of protecting her with his larger wings, for the Archer likes to fly, too, in his imagination, as high as his arrows. But maybe these lovers should stay just a little distance apart, as they sail the kites of their aspirations. If they stand too close together, on a windy day, the strings may get hopelessly tangled.
The Sagittarian man was born full of ideals. The Gemini woman was born full of ideas. There is a difference between the two words—the letter l, for love. An idea, when it’s nurtured with love, will reach for the higher octave of itself, and become an ideal If they love enough, the Archer can take his Gemini lady’s ideas, transmute them into Jupiter ideals, and illuminate her already-bright mind with the light of the difference.
Gemini Man and Sagittarius Woman Zodiac Compatibility
Also he was fond of variety, and the sport that engrossed him one moment would suddenly cease to engage him, so there was always the possibility that the next time you fell he would let you go.
When a Sagittarius woman falls in love, her whole spirit reaches out like a trusting puppy, hungry for affection, ready to return it in full measure. Only later do the accumulated mistakes of the years cause her to wear the theatrical mask of skepticism and cynicism, which she covers with the bright greasepainted features of the clown. Her innate honesty and refreshing frankness would touch the hardest masculine heart. But sometimes it only tempts a certain kind of Gemini male to test his cleverness by twisting her integrity, her ideals, and even her love, with complex mind-bending games. He courts disaster by doing this. Not his. Hers. Gemini, somehow, always manages to escape in the final reel. It’s the sincerely brokenhearted Sagittarian female who bears the scars of such abusive tactics of the Mercury intellect, sometimes for many moons … sometimes permanently.
Before it’s over, however, she may call on Jupiter’s power of excess, and tear a few jagged holes in the fabric of the Twins’ precious freedom robe, with some fiery, emotional scenes of furious passion, which (if he’s the type of Gemini we’re describing, who has allowed his negative Twin to take control of him) he will probably richly deserve.
This woman is warm, open-hearted, desperately in need of both affection and emotional stability. If the Sun-Moon interchange in their horoscopes is negative, she could be shopping for it in the wrong place, for Gemini can be cruelly detached, cold and unsympathetic when his negative Twin takes over. What happened to the light, gay, tender, loving man she thought he was, the one who wrote such moving poems to her, who raced her to the Moon and back, kissed away her tears with that little-boy-lopsided-grin? He’s still there, playing an unkind game of hide-and-seek, somewhere within the multiple-reflected image identities of this complicated man. He can leave her weeping, with an uncaring, bored shrug of his shoulders … with not even a backward glance of regret, and the next day, return with a bunch of violets, a new poem and his old gentleness, begging forgiveness and swearing his devotion anew.
It’s hardly the thing she needs. A Sagittarius woman is deeply vulnerable. This sort of on-again, off-again romance, ranging from cruel iciness to detached boredom (and frequently outright deception) mingled with beautiful romance, from a man who can charm hissing serpents into docility, may cause her to tremble in her soul, make her unsure of herself as a female, or even as a human being. About this time, he may start his pseudo-psychoanalysis. He isn’t the one who needs therapy. It’s her. He might even manage to convince her of this probable lie. Geminis can convince anyone of anything the first dozen times, until their gullible victims catch on to the trickery. A Mercury-ruled man can commit the most outrageous deeds, then expect the woman who loves him to apologize to him as if the misdeeds were her own. You can see why these men make super salesmen. They can sell anything to anyone, and what’s more, they seldom get caught when they slip under the line or skip around the alphabet, avoiding the letter of the law of love—or any other kind of law.
Of course, this is only true of Geminis whose natal Suns are severely afflicted by heavy planets at birth. Such Twins deserve to be astrologically exposed to Sagittarian women who might find a tragic end to romance with this type. The great majority of Gemini men, thankfully, possess far more intelligence and wit than flaws of character.
Still, it must not be forgotten that the negative-type Geminis have broken more hearts and shredded more lives than could be pieced back together with an ocean of Elmer’s glue. They have no sympathy coming to them until they become more introspective, and show some compassion for the havoc they caused others through their lack of human warmth, their cruel and curious need to win every game of mental blackjack they play. Unfortunately, even this kind of Gemini is almost irresistible in the act of asking, with apparently innocent eyes (though they are shifting, if you look closely), Who, me? Yes, you. One can often spot this brand of Gemini male by the number of aliases or pseudonyms he uses. Many positive Mercury people playfully hide behind several names, but this type does it for more sinister reasons. Isn’t that right, Jim? I mean David—or is it Mel—or Fred? Whatever. By their words and deeds shall ye know them. If only they would truly know themselves.
The more illuminated, charming and near-magical Gemini man has a strong appeal for the typical Sagittarius woman, however—and she for him. Opposites don’t always attract, but when they are members of opposite sexes (opposing male and female) they often do. Gemini and Sagittarius are horoscopically opposed, and the powerful pull begins with this feeling each has that the other has qualities intensely desirable of attainment. It’s true. Each does possess what the other lacks. Consequently, they can teach one another many marvelous lessons that rhyme with happy. The physical magnetism between them is difficult to resist. So are the mental and emotional vibrations. And so, it is with a haunting wonder that they gravitate toward each other … . if they meet under the right planetary aspects, when the stars are smiling on a breezy night, and the Moon is new enough to wish on.
They share an eternal youthfulness of spirit, an inquisitive turn of mind, a responsiveness to Nature and a mutual need for freedom, for space between them, so they can move toward their goals. Both of them like to dream alone for a while, then return to each other’s arms for encouragement. But alone is not the same as lonely. Both the Gemini man and the Sagittarius woman seek the gregarious life, surrounding themselves with people, because they have a secret fear of loneliness.
She will almost surely have a pet. A kitten or a dog. And give it odd names. The most precious female Archer I know named one of her kittens Frog, the other simply (logically) Cat. He likes pets too, but may not feel quite the same fierce devotion as she does. Gemini will love a pet only as long as it doesn’t interfere with his own pleasures or require money he would prefer to spend on himself, whereas a Sagittarian woman will often sacrifice her own convenience for an animal she loves. There are other subtle differences in their natures. Gemini thirsts for new horizons to soar, and so does she. But she also has need of a warm and steady hand to hold while she’s soaring. He likes to hold hands too, but if she lets go, he’ll wave goodbye more or less cheerily, while she may lose her way if he lets go.
Their sexual life is usually where they find solace from their conflicts in other areas, as with all 7-7 Sun Sign Patterns. The strong chemical attraction between them frequently increases as time goes by, and even if it should decrease, it seems to always be there, latent, waiting to be rekindled, to be called upon to mend the cracks in their relationship.
There is a certain passion of the mind between them, which creates a fertile ground for physical consummation. Often, their sexual lovemaking will begin long before bedtime—perhaps at breakfast, through messages spoken by the eyes across the room, a romantic note left where she will find it, the shared intimacy of a familiar smile or special, private nickname which, translated, means: I love you—I need you—I want you.
The pitfall of the sex between them is that he may use Gemini trickery on her occasionally. A Gemini male is not above inciting a quarrel for the deliberate purpose of increasing emotion or desire in his partner. Anger has a strange way of exciting passion between these two. Then the argument is resolved by physical union—or it should be. But is it? He’s capable of bringing it up for lengthy discussion again after their closeness, when it should have been buried and forgotten. To be fair to him, we have to admit that she tends to do the same thing. They should both learn to bury disagreements after intimacy. Why use sex as a weapon against each other? But Gemini and Sagittarius often do. Jealousy is the cause of many of their disputes, with good reason. Neither sign is noted for impeccable faithfulness. Both are too curious, too changeable, too moody and desirous of variety to be snowflake-pure-loyal.
If their Sun-Moon aspects are favorable, or if one has a Capricorn, Taurus or Scorpio Ascendent, they can manage to remain totally faithful as long as they’re together. Otherwise, there will be some straying or infidelity, even if it takes the form of only a casual, light flirtation, out in the open, never physically consummated. He is more apt to wander than she. But Sagittarian women catch on quickly to the various games taught them by Mercury Birds. Then the feathers will fly.
He can be so. . … moody. First, the quick blush of happiness, the beating wings of excitement. Then the frown, suddenly, with no warning. The averted eyes. Sadness, deepening into depression. Moments later, the Mercurial quicksilver grin again—and a merry invitation to skip pebbles in the lake or listen to frogs sing love songs at the edge of a magical woodland he knows. First he asks her to make cinnamon toast. Then he’s not hungry. With variations, the theme of their romance goes pretty much like that, and she still bravely tries to sing along.
Of course, the Sagittarius woman can have a few moods herself. Being also a dual sign, she can change from sensitive to introspective, then back to temperamental and caustic. If one can manage to stay up while the other is down, and vice versa, they can pull each other through the scary times. Both up together would be nice, but then that means they will both be down together. Two Biorhythm charts would benefit this man and woman immensely.
He’ll have to curb his tendency to sarcasm when he’s annoyed; and she’ll have to curb her tendency to tactless remarks, when what he needs is her tenderness and her understanding. Her blunt truth almost always hurts. So does his sarcasm. The Sagittarius woman, with all her innocent candor, has no conception of the word. It means … well, sarcasm usually means saying something exactly the opposite from what you really think and believe, and exaggerating the falsehood for emphasis of the truth, such as—Of course I don’t object to a three-hundred-dollar phone bill, darling. It makes me feel important to pay the telephone company all that money, even if it does mean we have to cancel our vacation this summer. You see? Like that. Sarcasm. She’ll be both hurt and puzzled. Why doesn’t he just say straight out that he’s angry about the phone bill being so high, and disappointed that it might mean no vacation this summer? (Then she could say she’s sorry, and work overtime, or take an extra job for a few weeks, to make up the difference. As it is, she won’t say she’s sorry, so there!)
Why doesn’t he just say so? Because he’s a poetic dreamer, a Gemini, dear girl, incapable of saying exactly what he means. To live in any degree of contentment with this clever and marvelously fascinating man, Sag will have to pay attention not to what his lips say but read the truth only in his eyes. Yet, his eyes are forever darting here and there, and are often difficult to read … the expression in them keeps changing.
The only thing more stinging than the Gemini man’s sharp sarcasm is the female Archer’s blunt honesty. This pair, when they’re ill-mated, can verbally slice each other’s hearts to ribbons. But there’s a lighter side to their relationship. There’s always another side, when two double signs get together, for better or for worse—and it can be better. They will at least respect one another’s intellect, and find their mutual moods more fascinating than the boring sameness of others.
A Gemini man likes to gaze at the galaxies, meditating on the myriad worlds out there in space. Then unexpectedly, he shifts his awareness to himself, and wonders—Do you suppose there are also myriad worlds within the space of ME, that I might explore? His ever-present Twin cries, Yes! There are!. . … and another adventure begins. If the Sagittarian woman wants to hold this man, her labor of love will be to join him on his quest for the Neverland, trying not to resent the third person who must always tag along—his shadow. She might also try, as Wendy did with the Mercurial Peter Pan, to stitch his shadow to him tightly and neatly. So he won’t lose the other half of himself so often. That’s a kind of riddle, but Jupiter will whisper to her heart the answer, if she listens.
