… it’s only fair to take this into account.
Libra and Scorpio form a 2-12 Sun Sign Pattern, which means many things, as you will read in the back of this book, but one of the most important of these is Karma’s decree to the Libran that there is a mystery to be absorbed from the Scorpion … and there is, to be sure. More than one mystery.
The roles of student-teacher will soon emerge, which is only fair. After all, Libra, you play the same instructor role toward Virgo as Scorpio plays toward you, so it all evens out around the wheel. Since Libra represents the twelfth house of the karmic past to Scorpio, the latter will be unusually tolerant of Libra faults and failings, the differences in their individual personalities and dispositions. Scorpio has already passed through Libra’s Venus vibration (probably quite recently, relatively speaking) and therefore possesses a strange comprehension of its pitfalls, along with a wistful memory of its joys, yet would prefer not to return there, having moved on to bigger and better problems under the Pluto essence.
I feel I have something to learn from this person, muses Libra, when exposed to Scorpio’s unrelenting gaze. I somehow understand this person better than anyone else ever will, thinks the Eagle, after studying the Libran carefully
And so they approach each other, tentatively at first, but with a certain degree of fascination—for the unknown, on the part of Libra—for the known and vulnerable on the part of Scorpio.
This is not, strictly speaking, the same teacher-student vibration of the 4-10 Sun Sign Patterns. Yet the Scorpion has a subconscious recall from some misty past incarnation, of the dreadful disappointments that can follow on the heels of Libra optimism, justice and fairness, and so is sympathetic to Libra’s tendency to try to see the positive side of all questions—and is often willing to give a helping hand to this Sun Sign still beset with Venus seductions, this soul experiencing the struggle of trying to balance the Libra Scales.
Libra, keenly sensing the need to benefit from Scorpio’s wisdom, is anxious to plumb Pluto’s secrets. But Libra is a mental Air Sign, and will not accept every word from Scorpio without a few healthy arguments (Libra calls them discussions) and an occasional mental chess game with teacher.
Whether the relationship is that of friends, parent and child, business associates, mates or lovers, Scorpio soon discovers that Libra is a charmer, pleasant, bright and soothing to be around—on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays Libra can be a study in contrariness. Sundays depend.
Most Librans do like to talk, especially the females of the Sun Sign. There are also some Libra men who seem shy and reticent, but challenge their sharp wits with an argument or a one-sided statement—and they’ll lose their shyness and talk your head off trying to convince you that there are two sides to every question, every problem, every situation. These quiet, untalkative Librans are only remaining silent while they perform their mental convolutions, ready to whip them out to win a victory in the next argument.
Scorpios have decided likes and dislikes. Their preferences are never fuzzy, their opinions often set—as if in cement. The natural adaptability of the Scorpio Water element seldom wins out over the Fixity of the Scorpion Sun Sign nature. Of the three Water Signs, Pisces is far more adaptable than either Scorpio or Cancer, since Pisces is a Mutable Sign, Cancer a Cardinal Sign, and Scorpio an extremely Fixed Sign. Studying such nuances, and recognizing them, helps a lot.
These set opinions, these pronounced likes and dislikes of Scorpio, can cause tension when they offend Libra’s innate sense of justice and fair play, and Libra voices disapproval. When this happens, Scorpio will temporarily forget his or her natural tolerance for Libra, and become either mildly frustrated or even secretly bitter over what the Scorp interprets as permissive, lazy thinking—which is a mistake. Libra may be physically lazy periodically, usually following a long surge of incredible vitality (it takes these ups and downs to keep the Libra scales evenly balanced), but there’s nothing lazy about the Libra mind. How can a mind grow lazy, with all that hyper-activity or weighing back and forth every decision, from whether it’s healthier to eat carob ice cream than to eat none, to whether to vote Democrat or Republican or not vote at all—or to form a new political party? Such continual brain exercise as Libra receives from the trauma of daily and hourly decision making, keeps his or her mental muscles rippling and flexible. Sorry, Scorpio, but calling Libra mentally lazy is an unfair judgment. In the area of permissive thinking, however, you have pretty good grounds for complaint.
A Libran can be amazing in his or her ability to sustain an optimistic tomorrow will be better attitude in the face of setbacks, letdowns and catastrophes, which is truly a lovely thing to observe at close hand (or even at a distance), but after a while it begins to chafe. The more cautious, perceptive Scorpion asks himself (or herself) if Libra can possibly be sincere. (Libra is, yes, ever-so-sincere.) How can any human, wonders the Scorp, so eternally continue to see only the good side of everything? Wait. Eventually Libra’s Scales will tip and they’ll be looking on the dark side. If you don’t believe me, just say anything at all strongly affirmative to Libra (very aggressively) and watch him (or her) take the opposite stand. Or the middle road. Sometimes, they take both sides at once. Approach a Libran, point your finger and say loudly, You’re a Libran, and that means you like to argue about everything, right?
Well . . yes and no, answers Libra.
I love to have Libra people approach me to discuss my first book, Sun Signs, and spend a half-hour or so telling me why they don’t think the Libra chapter fits them. When they’re all through, I say sweetly, But you just proved you’re a Libran by arguing about every word I wrote. For a moment, they’re silent. Then Libra will continue, I didn’t argue about every word. There are some things in it that fit me perfectly. Which ones? I ask. Then Libra spends another half-hour telling me how accurate the description of the Sun Sign was. Afterward, I feel kind of split-down-the-middle, which is the way Librans always leave you feeling. But they’re fair!
Scorpios can, surprisingly, rather smoothly handle Librans who are temporarily behaving like cranky crocodiles. It’s the 2-12 vibration between them. Scorpio seems to instinctively sense that Libra needs encouragement, that when Libra finds the right outlet for either creative or intellectual expression, he or she will become a most cooperative person—friendly, adaptable and willing to compromise in order to maintain harmony and avoid tension. A little extra patience is worth it to Scorpio to achieve such a desirable goal. A Scorpion always has an excellent reason for every tactic, a hidden motive behind every strategy or course of action in human intercourse. Of course, Scorpio should be warned that the Libra willingness to be friendly, adaptable and cooperative may be, on occasion, merely a weapon to gain what Libra wants, however genuine these virtues are most of the time. Librans are incredibly adept at manipulating situations to their own private ends, with apparent harmless intention and a lack of aggressive attitude, while projecting oozing oodles of charm—so adept that unsuspecting souls are often fooled into doing it Libra’s way (oh, that persuasive voice, that heavenly smile!) without fully realizing how they’ve been programmed to goose-step in the direction Libra had in mind all along.
Scorpio, however, is far from an unsuspecting soul. Scorpio invented the word suspicious. You don’t fool one easily. Governed by the powerfully perceptive Pluto, most Eagles can see straight through the silk and satin of Libra’s wiles and seductions. Libra can trick Scorpio only once, if that often. After the first experience, Scorpio will have memorized the Venus strategy of sweet cajoling, and will be armoured against the allurement of such wheedling next time.
Libra: | (all smiles and dimples) That’s a truly excellent letter you wrote, and it reads very smoothly—but do you think it really expresses what you want to say? |
Scorpio: | Yes. It expresses exactly what I want to say, which is why I intend to mail it. I’m glad you liked it. Do you have a stamp? |
Scorpios are no pushovers for Libra charm. They can be, when they choose, equally as subtle in the strategies of achieving their objectives as the airy, mentally quick and highly intelligent Librans. And far more persistent. Inwardly, the Eagle never admits defeat. But Scorpios are sensitive, and can be quietly hurt when Libra is oblivious to a need. Libra is not a sign noted for in-depth analyzing of human nature. They’re better at analyzing stock market reports, legal briefs, color charts, art masterpieces and political polls. Libra may be sweetly sympathetic, for example, to Scorpio’s nervousness around kangaroos. But it may not occur to Libra to ask why. Scorpio would like to be asked, even needs to be asked why. He (or she) may have waited a long, lonely time for someone to care enough to really want to hear the story about that scary trip to the zoo as a child. Speaking of childhood, here’s an unpublished Mother Goose rhyme she wrote for the Venus- and Pluto-ruled, while she was shaking out her feathers one day: Water and air, water and air . . may only reach harmony … . . when Libra treads carefully . . and Scorpio is fair.
Libra Woman and Scorpio Man
In her dream he had rent the film that obscures the Neverland… .
… Elation must have been in his heart, but his face did not reflect it.
As bright, intelligent and logical as she may be, the Libra woman can spend a lifetime unsuccessfully trying to read the innermost feelings of her Scorpio man from his bland features. She’ll never penetrate all the secrets behind his impassive mask. He’s a walking enigma that will forever resist a final solution. If he loves her, he’ll share more of himself with her than he ever will with anyone else, but this doesn’t mean he’ll either invite or permit her to wander around in the more private recesses of his mind, heart or soul. These secret compartments are reserved for himself and his Maker—his God.
If he should happen to tell her this, her fine Libra mind will probably find it a good excuse to initiate an argument (excuse me, a discussion) on the subject. What do you mean, your God? Aren’t you aware that we have co-Creators, that there is a Mr. and Ms. God, that even your Maker has a female counterpart, as does everything in the entire Universe? Libra women are always a trifle feminist, even when they disguise it with their perfumed femininity and dimpled smiles, but she’s on the track to truth when she offers that particular spiritual conjecture. Right on! Libra, and bless your Venus wisdom.
Buried just beneath the surface cool, in even the most evolved of Scorpio men, is the revenge syndrome—so she should beware of driving him into too many inlets of resentment. The retaliatory surprises of a wounded or angered Scorpion can seriously shake her Libran equilibrium. This man is deeply sensitive behind his image of self-sufficiency and confidence. Now, a word of warning to him. Despite her soothing voice, beautiful features and sparkling toothpaste smile, Libra is a masculine Sun Sign, also a Cardinal Sun Sign of leadership. A smart Scorpio man knows the Webster definition of both masculine and cardinal. So he should comprehend that this female, with all her womanly ways, will not become a contented concubine, not even for him. She can, at first, be undeniably convincing in her pose of soft feminine submission, especially if she really loves him. But behind her cheerful countenance and satiny façade, she’s miserable unless she’s made responsible in some way regarding matters of importance. Brooms, mops, dishwashers and diapers don’t fall in that category. I mean, they’re important . . but they’re not challenging or mentally stimulating, and if she isn’t mentally stimulated she’ll become a very sad lady. Of course, admittedly, there’s nothing more stimulating than trying to capture the love of an Eagle, but once she’s won that round, she’ll become restless. She’s a regular female Ulysses, this woman—with an additional problem Ulysses didn’t have when he sailed the seven seas—she needs companionship. She withers when left alone. Libra rules marriage and partnerships. Just imagine what it’s like to so need the comfort of a cozy marriage, yet to be constantly longing to dash out and conquer the world at the same time. Do you see why her Scales keep dipping in indecision and frustration?
Because Scorpio is the natural ruler of the eighth astrological house of other people’s money (among other things) and, in addition, represents the second house of money and material possessions to Libra, these matters will assume more importance with this couple than with most. The income of either or both will be the subject of much emphasis in their relationship. Whether this financial emphasis is positive or negative will depend on the Sun-Moon aspect they share, and other mutual planetary influences, plus—as always—their own efforts to harmonize in this area of their life together. But they can be certain that money will rear its little (or large) green head as an urgent problem for decision and discussion, not infrequently. Separate checking accounts. I strongly advise separate checking accounts. Actually, that’s good counsel for every couple of any Sun-Sign composition, but especially for this one. A Libra woman will not be comfortable asking her man for a few dollars when she wants to subscribe to Ms. magazine or go shopping. Libra women were liberated long before the women’s lib movement.
If she wants to go to work, he should be enthusiastic. He may as well be because she’ll do it anyway. Scorpio can be intimidating, but a Libra woman is not easily intimidated. She’ll seesaw back and forth for a while, pretending that her indecision trauma is caused by a concern that her taking a job might upset him or their home life. She’s putting him on, using these anxieties as excuses to cover her necessary but frustrating period of Scale balancing. In the end, she’ll do exactly as she wishes to do. Whatever that might be. It’s hard to guess. But when she does finally decide, she’ll be quite firm about it, you can be sure. If it’s a job with a title, and relates somehow to the arts, so much the better. She’ll be touchingly happy, for Libra must lead in some manner—and to her, anything artistic or beautiful isn’t work, it’s play. The happiest careers are always those in which we would become involved by choice, even if we weren’t paid. To work with love is a holy thing.
In astrology, Libra is closely associated with the law, among other matters. So he shouldn’t be surprised if she often sounds like a lawyer when they’re debating (I mean discussing) some point of disagreement. Even if he’s an attorney himself, she’ll rock and sock him now and then with her Libra logic. He may think he’s fallen in love with, not a woman, but his old college law professor, and have to look closely to be certain. Those starry eyes and chiseled features and that voluptuous Venus figure should quickly reassure him. Yes, she is a female. Still, her masculine mental processes will give him a start now and then. She’ll take turns being sweetly bossy, then docile, which will confuse him, and very few things confuse Scorpio. It can throw him into periods of inexplicable depression, during which he’ll ask himself who is really in control of the relationship. (It’s a valid question.) On the other hand, his habit of silently appraising her virtues, when she needs to hear them praised aloud, of being critical in a detached and unemotional way, can trouble her more than he guesses.
The Libra woman will have to call on all her considerable reserves of charm and tact to learn to be tolerant of this man’s dark moods, his long silences. He hasn’t left her, he’s only swimming out a little further from shore than usual, into the deeper waters of meditation upon life’s mysteries, and he doesn’t need a bodyguard to float along beside him. He prefers to make such nocturnal excursions alone. Chattering, or insistent questions like What are you thinking about? or Why are you so quiet, sweetheart? will be answered with a cold stare and more silence. Even the talkier Scorpions with several planets in Gemini, Aries or Leo, will have reclusive moments.
In the beginning, it will cause no small amount of tension between them that he sometimes communicates best with a glance, or perhaps a touch—while she communicates best the way all humans were made to communicate, verbally, with sounds called words. A Scorpion, however gregarious he may be regarding other areas of his life, will never find it easy to be excessively verbal when expressing his emotional or sexual or romantic feelings. If there’s a harmonizing Sun-Moon aspect between their birth charts, she’ll understand this, begin to measure her words and communicate more often with her dazzling Libra smile—and an eloquent silence.
Should they, however, share a square or opposed Sun-Moon aspect, the prognostications for permanence are not good. If he’s one of those Scorps with a weakness for drugs or alcohol, and she’s one of those eternal party girl Librans, there will be trouble. Libra creates the social atmosphere to tempt Scorpio’s latent weaknesses. Her fondness for fun and people and entertaining can be a sticky net for the Scorpion who’s easily lured into losing himself through various escapes, from drinking or the temporary high (or low) of grass, to ever more dangerous artificial stimulation. Life is always ready to seduce the Pluto ruled into dark waters, and a dimpled, charming Libra woman can be pretty seductive.
However, an evolved Scorpio male of tenacity and purpose (and there are plenty of these) who can resist such siren songs—and the enlightened, mentally stable, emotionally balanced Libra woman (the kind who far outnumber the Libran party girls) have a solid chance to form a strong association when they fall in love with their heads and hearts in equal measure. He may sometimes suspect she’s not completely leveling with him, not saying what she really believes, never mind how many words she uses. Are they reflecting her true feelings? He wonders, for he is suspicious by nature. It’s a dual problem, because she’ll be troubled by his subtle manner of avoiding an immediate answer to her questions. What lies behind those impassive features? She wonders, for she is curious by nature. There are moments when he’ll appear to be more stubborn than he really is, when he insists on a course of action without explaining to her logical mind why he’s so set on it, believing she should trust him to have the wisdom to know what he’s doing—and he usually does. It’s safer for their marriage if she trusts him than if she doubts him. Yes, I said marriage. None of these temporary let’s live together first plans for the Libra female. She may go along with a live-in arrangement for a while, but eventually she will marry, or leave. Marry her, or you’ll lose her—to another man, perhaps—or she’ll find a sensational career to wed. Just so she’s not alone, and she knows where she’s going. Libra women play all games for keeps.
Many Libra females retain their own names when they marry. It’s a kind of thing with some of them. If a Scorpio man permits this, you can safely wager every penny in your piggy bank that he’s one of the very rare, evolved Eagles, and fatten your pig by winning. She may hesitate before deciding, though—what will happen when the children are born? On the other hand, will she miss the warm intimacy of bearing his name while she’s keeping intact her independence as an individual? There are actually two sides to it, you see, and … .
After a few hours or days or weeks of her weighing the balance, even a stubborn Taurus man might give in, and say, Do it! Do it! So will the Scorpio man. He’ll likewise become weary of her weighing and shout (though he rarely shouts), DO IT! For % % ¢¢&&** !! sakes, DO IT! Like I said when I first suggested it, I think it’s a sound idea (even if he secretly hates the idea).
The funny thing is that the idea itself will probably have originally been hers, not his. She’ll sweetly plant it in her lover’s mind so subtly and gently, he’ll forget where it came from and be innocently convinced it was his suggestion in the first place. That’s what astrology means by the female Libran’s iron fist in a velvet glove. When it punches out the perception of a Scorpio, you can be certain it’s mighty powerful, however velvety.
These two aren’t as emotionally passionate as they are mentally in tune. Sexually, they can anticipate each other’s wishes, which is good. But they aren’t always aware of how to satisfy those wishes, which is bad. The Eagle should study the verse in Ecclesiastes, which states that there is a time to embrace—and a time to refrain from embracing. One of the latter times is when she’s struggling through the throes of some important decision. He may try to relax her, help her unwind with intense lovemaking, then be deeply wounded to discover that his endeavors have only tied her into more pretzels and made her restless, nervous … when the act of love should result in peace and contentment. She can be an ideal partner for him when her Scales are balanced, and at these times, their physical Oneness can bring them so spiritually close to each other that tears could fill their eyes at the wonder of love’s power to transport the soul into beauty through becoming one flesh. But when this woman’s Scales are tipping, she’ll be as pleasant to make love to as the Lady Macbeth.
The Scorpio man will probably satisfy every sensual and erotic longing, every secret need for affection and fierce devotion the Libra woman has ever dreamed about romantically—except one. He definitely will not recite poetry to her in the middle of their mating—nor will he make whispered declarations of his devotion aloud to her during their intimate moments. She’ll remind him, perhaps even coach him. He will attempt to comply. But since this sort of thing lacks spontaneity, she’ll begin to think he doesn’t really love her. He does. But this man is uneasy with open displays of sentiment and romance. He thinks he proves he loves his woman by both his loyalty and his sexual intensity. Why should she need words, to hear him repeat I love you constantly? I don’t know why, but she does need it. A compromise may be necessary. She should try to be more gentle, less demanding of him … … and he should realize that this woman doesn’t take a crystal ball to bed with her, so how is she to know his feelings are as deep and sure as when they first wept together over love’s joy, unless he tells her so? Using Libra logic, I’ll remind the Eagle that a small amount of spoken endearments will prevent a large amount of unreasonable jealousy. Whether his features are plain or handsome, the magnetic force field of Pluto pulses in his aura, and his undeniable magnetism with women can make this lady very jealous. Could Juliet have doubted Romeo, with such constant declaration of his love? Nor did she. Nor will his Libra woman, if she receives her Juliet birthright from him.
Wish them luck in their efforts to blend their vibes. It might be a blessing to us all that they fell in love. She can provide an idealistic outlet for his controlled but driving ambition, helping him guide it into channels that could bring justice to the planet’s abused and weary souls. His deeper wisdom will check her airy indecisions, gently molding them into a sensible approach to her daydreams. Her logical mind will help him straighten out the complicated tangles of career, family or personal involvements which are sooner or later faced, to some degree, by every Water Sign, even invincible Scorpio.
The combining of the Eagle’s bottomless confidence with his Libra woman’s great sense of fairness can be a beneficent thing for everyone within their sphere of influence. Their personal love has an excellent chance to expand outside themselves into a tremendous energy for all mankind and womankind. If the two of them should silently meditate together within the Pyramid or whisper magic mantras in an ancient Incan temple … . . what wonders might occur! Our co-Creators would both approve.
Libra Man and Scorpio Woman
I know not why it was, perhaps it was because of the soft beauty of the evening, but there came over him a desire to confide … . .
Here’s an astrological insight about a Libra man his Scorpio woman may already know. He’s softer than most men, more gentle, more easily hurt. Just as the female of his Libra Sun Sign is stronger, tougher underneath than most women. It’s a contradiction faced by the two sexes of any masculine Sun Sign conflictingly ruled by a feminine planet. I digress deliberately, for this subject will sooner or later be of vital importance to these particular lovers.
Libra is a masculine Sun Sign, ruled by the feminine planet Venus. Capricorns, for example, face the same dilemma, Capricorn being a feminine Sun Sign under the control of the masculine planet Saturn. It makes the men of the sign a little more feminine than usual—the women of the sign a little more masculine than usual, which is beneficial in an evolutionary sense. A man is not less macho because he’s sensitive enough to weep (Jesus wept), nor is a woman less feminine because she knows her own mind and has the courage of her own convictions.
The problem repeats itself in an even more concentrated way with all the Sun Signs. The masculine Sun Signs also ruled by a masculine planet—Aries, Leo, Sagittarius and Aquarius—make it difficult for females born under their influence to convince their lovers they’re really girl-types, longing and needing to be cherished and conquered, never mind how they sometimes behave or how much they prefer to wear slacks to skirts. The feminine Sun Signs also ruled by a feminine planet—Taurus, Cancer, Virgo and Pisces present the converse problem to males born under their influence, making it difficult for them to project to their ladies that they’re really strong, courageous types, longing and needing respect and recognition, never mind that they sometimes behave as if they couldn’t care less about such things.
For the foregoing reasons, the both masculine planet-ruled and masculine Sun Signs of Aries, Leo, Sagittarius and Aquarius often produce males who are a shade too masculine—while the both feminine planet-ruled and feminine Sun Signs of Taurus, Cancer, Virgo and Pisces often produce females who are a shade too feminine. Out of balance, so to speak. (Libra will understand that!) These are the women who infuriate feminists, the ladies who enjoy being submissive to their husbands, and don’t really want their freedom.
Gemini, we’ll skip. Geminis are Twins, and that should be self-explanatory. Gemini’s ruling planet, Mercury, is a tricky, double-talking magician, who changes sex when it suits some Mercurial purpose, in the twinkling of an eye.
Is Scorpio one of these sexually upside-down, out-of-balance or overly balanced (sexually) Sun Signs? Any astrologer who claims an absolute either-or answer to that is less cautious than I care to be concerning the mysterious planet Pluto. Scorpio is, of course, indisputably a feminine Sun Sign. But . . Pluto? Scorpio’s ruler? The awesome force and explosive power of Pluto is that of Mother Nature herself—and has anyone ever dared to call Mother Nature a man? Yet—force and power of such magnitude as Pluto’s are normally associated with the masculine gender.
It bears consideration and meditation. In both natal (birth) aspects and astrological predictive work, through transits and progressions, Pluto likes to hide the truth, to explode the unanticipated, often indicating the opposite polarity of a hidden meaning to disguise a karmic purpose. Would you really like to know the sexual secret of this dark, silent and enigmatic ruler of Scorpio—Pluto? All right. It’s contained within the mystery of the Holy Trinity. An in-depth explanation of the sexual identity of the planet Pluto is hidden within The Twelve Mysteries of Love in the front of this book, beginning on page 12. I told you Pluto likes to hide things. (Scorpio people even hide things from themselves—and then forget where they hid them.) Pluto doesn’t forget. And so you certainly couldn’t expect the answer to Pluto’s secret to be contained within any Scorpio chapter, where you’d be likely to look. Like everything else about Pluto (and Scorpios), it will be waiting somewhere inconspicuously, silently … for those who care enough to search.
And so, although we know that the Libra man was born under a masculine Sun Sign but is ruled by the ultrafeminine planet Venus—adding an attractive depth to his emotional nature and interesting sensitivity nuances to his personality—we aren’t sure about the Scorpio woman. Is she ruled and influenced by masculine or feminine forces? When you discover the answer (in the place where Pluto has hidden it, within this book) you will comprehend the true reason for the power behind the minds and wills of Scorpios, including the women born under this Sun Sign.
I introduced this in-depth gender meditation for two excellent reasons—one being to hint to my readers that astrology is very definitely on the side of equality of the sexes—the other being that the subject matter itself will keep Libra and Scorpio busy arguing back and forth with each other for many hours, while we discuss their areas of compatibility and incompatibility. After a time, while the Libra man is still making reasonable, fair and logical points about it, the Scorpio woman will suddenly freeze, stare or glare at him, murmur something like: I happen to know. You do not, then lapse into her Fixed Sign silence. That’s the way many of the quarrels, discussions or whatever climax between these two, with Libra still pressing arguments for his side—and his Scorpio woman holding tenaciously, intensely to her deep, inner conviction, totally unimpressed with all his logic and charming persuasion.
This should give the Libra man a clear idea of what he’s facing with a Scorpio woman. His dimples and charming manners may have other females palpitating the moment he grins and projects his brilliant mind toward them like a romantic laser, but this woman will see through him. She’ll know right away whether he’s playing a game with her, as Air Signs are wont to do—or seriously attracted to her. In other words, she’ll know if his intentions are honorable or not.
I said she would know his intentions, not necessarily base her decision on the degree of their honorability. (If there’s no such word as honorability, Webster has goofed, and you may so inform them. It’s kind of like nobility. I just coined it.) Honorability may not be the deciding factor with her. She just likes to know things. To Scorpio, knowledge is power. If his initial intentions aren’t honorable, she might even be intrigued. Scorpios of both sexes enjoy experimenting with challenging emotional situations. If he’s not honorable now, perhaps she can make him honorable later, by the sheer force of her animal magnetism. The Libra male is hereby warned that what begins as a casual flirtation with a lady Scorpion may very well end up being a long-term commitment, and for years he’ll wonder how it happened. If their Sun-Moon positions are compatible, he won’t really care how, he’ll just be glad it happened. He’ll be happy she guessed that his feelings were genuine before he knew it himself. But if their Sun-Moon positions are incompatible, he may later have cause to regret his airy, amusing (he thought) excursion into her deep emotional waters.
It may take Pluto power for the Scorpio woman to enlighten this man to the awareness that he’s not flirting, that he really loves her—but it won’t be so difficult to make him realize he wants to marry her. If he’s a typical Libran, he was born to form a partnership, either business or marital, and his romantic nature prefers the latter. The unhappiest people on the planet are Librans who, for some unique reason, never married. They go around singing the People song from Funny Girl: Lovers . . are very special people . . they’re the luckiest people in the world . . —so wistfully they can break your heart. To this man, wedlock can be beautiful. But the trouble with wedlock, as journalist Christopher Morley once observed, is that there’s not enough wed—too much lock—and such could become a legitimate complaint of the Libra man married to a Scorp. Because she feels everything so intensely, her possessiveness and jealousy are far more than temporary feelings or passing moods. Her need to know he’s faithful to her is a fierce need. She can burn with torment if she even suspects otherwise, and she can be the most suspicious of women. The Libra man is so handsome, romantic and gentle (most of the time, when he’s not being cranky) that women often are fascinated by him, and some of them will seek excuses to engage him in intellectual conversation—with other things in mind than the intellect. How can he help it if he’s so attractive to the female sex?
He’d better help it, if he’s made a promise to a Scorpio woman. In his wildest imaginings, he might not be able to image some of her reactions, her ways of getting even, if she’s been really hurt, her pride deeply wounded. They will be subtle, perhaps, but they will sting. Libra is known to astrology as The Peacemaker, but although he may breezily and effortlessly settle disputes between his friends, he may have to call for help in the form of an outside mediator at home when his wounded Scorpion is inwardly boiling in outrage. Don’t try to charm me, I know you, she’ll tell him coldly. This lady may be deceptively sweet and quiet much of the time, but that’s just her mask, to hide her inner turmoil. She is no doormat for a philandering male. In no way is she this.
On the brighter side, it’s almost certain he’ll enjoy making love to her, because her sex drive is as deep and trembling as he’d like his own to be. She’ll teach him many lessons of ecstasy. Without her, his attitude toward physical love might have remained somewhat shallow, and he might have searched for a long time for the kind of loving he always believed in but had never found. As a lover, this man is both susceptible and sentimental, both romantic and affectionate, and these qualities will appeal to the Scorpio woman who longs, and truly needs, to possess entirely the man she adores. Initially, she may be the dominant partner in their lovemaking, and this could disturb his sense of balance, but eventually he’ll find a tender way to teach her their mating will be more intense if they play an equal role. There’s a sweetness to the Scorpio sensuality that almost approaches spirituality, for every Scorpion subconsciously knows that sex and religion are, in some mysterious way, interrelated . . and this will touch his heart in a haunting way. Yes, these two are usually well mated, with much sympathetic magnetism between them physically, assuming there are no severe afflictions between their birth planets or their mutual Suns and Moons.
His sense of fair play will appeal to her own sense of justice and good judgment. Scorpio is loyal and honorable, and so will admire this in others. In most general matters, they’ll be in agreement, but in personal matters, he must take care not to injure her dignity. That’s always a calamitous mistake with a Scorp. As for his real need to argue or discuss things verbally until a solution is reached, she’ll go along with it, even enjoy their private debates—they keep her from being bored—but when one of their discussions has reached a climax, bringing on her silent stare—when she closes up and indicates that the matter, as far as she’s concerned, is settled, he’d be wise not to pursue it further.
Although she’s capable on rare occasions of exploding into fury, most of the time she possesses the wonderful patience of all Water Signs, and is therefore nicely suited to cope with his changes of mood, when his Scales dip up and down. If any woman knows how to help him become balanced again, through gentle persuasion, it’s this one. Call it subtle or call it sneaky, it’s her talent. He’ll feel that, with her, in some way things always turn rightside up again more easily and quickly than with most other people. He thinks it’s some strange, intangible vibration in her aura. No need for him to know it’s her power to plant mental suggestion almost hypnotically when he’s down, to bring him back up. The result is what counts.
She will be moved by his tenderness and his sentiment. Libra men are so sentimental, they’ve pretty nearly taught women to be sentimental too. I know it’s supposed to be the other way around, but if you believe that, you haven’t read the first page or two of this section of this chapter closely enough. Would you care to discuss it? Let’s don’t. If we do, we’ll be in this chapter forever. She won’t give in, and he won’t give up … . . trying to make her give in. You know?
