Virgo and Scorpio

None of them knew. Perhaps it was best not to know. Their ignorance gave them one more glad hour.

Virgos all believe they possess the precise pattern for ironing out the quirks and kinks in everything, for smoothing out all the wrinkles in the personalities of everyone they know. Then Virgo meets Scorpio, and the formula gets stuck in the computer. Their steam irons blow a fuse. Something is wrong. What could it be?

What it could be is that Scorpios elude any sort of analysis. In addition, they look darkly upon being nit-picked, nagged, or scolded about their naughty tendencies (like holding a grudge, and gazing at people with that scary-spooky stare). Pluto-ruled folk do not care to be criticized, however gentle and courteous the critic may be. If they smoke, they won’t tolerate being told to stop, or being reminded to empty their dirty ashtrays. Conversely, if they do not smoke, they don’t need to be told what good boys and girls they are for refraining from such a messy and unhealthy habit, for the excellent reason that Scorpio Eagles are born with immeasurable reserves of self-confidence, plus highly suspicious natures. Therefore, they already know they’re good, and furthermore, they mistrust unsolicited pats on the head and cheerful words of approval from Virgos—or from anyone else.

Scorpios who are awarded Pulitzer or Nobel prizes do not tremble in gratitude. They’re more likely to grumble under their breaths that it’s about time somebody recognized their superiority (sometimes not under their breaths, but quite audibly). They fully expect to win spelling bees, monopoly games, the fifty-yard dash, frog-jumping contests, pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey, political campaigns, Academy Awards, and 4-H Club ribbons.

It’s impossible to surprise them. Or rather, it’s possible to surprise them, but not possible to detect that you have from the Scorpion tone of voice, words, or change of expression. The reason is twofold. (a) They are precognitive enough to guess anything a few jumps ahead of you—and (b) those times when you do catch them unprepared, their facial features are prepared, even if they are not. Scorps take all the fun out of everything. They make very unsatisfactory guests of honor at surprise birthday parties. The spark of spontaneity will somehow be missing. It’s only exciting if you remember that they’re bubbling like champagne inside, even though the bubbles are kept tightly bottled.

As for Virgos, surprises make them more than a little nervous, since they represent something which has not been included in their schedules, and it throws them off balance for a few hours. Unlike Scorpio, Virgo is not suspicious. Virgos do not have time to waste pampering inner fears, and this is where suspiciousness is born. Neither do they have the self-confidence of Scorpio. Self-confidence implies that one is perfect, or near-perfect, and Virgos are only too aware of all the imperfections in human nature in general, their own in particular. There’s not a single Virgo who isn’t convinced that there’s more to criticize and to improve in himself (or herself) than in anyone else. Once Scorpio recognizes this endearing trait of Virgo’s (and it usually doesn’t take long for Scorps to psychometrize anything or psyche out anyone) the Virgin’s compulsion to remind, suggest, and observe in detail is less annoying, and the Eagle smiles affectionately upon this elflike, well-meaning human. If Virgo will go easy on outright criticism, nagging, scolding, and hair-splitting, the two of them will get along famously and become unexpectedly close. Unexpectedly, because closeness to another person is not something either Virgo or Scorpio looks upon casually—or attains easily.

Others may fear to plumb and probe Scorpio’s secret nature and mantle of mystery, but Virgo has a curious, exploring mind, and although he or she won’t reach up and rudely pull off Scorpio’s mask, a gentle attempt will be made to uncover what is hidden from view. Virgos are somehow not as frightened or in awe of Scorpio as other Sun Signs often are, since Virgo frankly respects Scorpio’s own critical and analytical abilities. The Virgin will frequently make a conscious effort, with an Eagle, to avoid controversial matters before they become actual disagreements, for a couple of reasons. First, Virgo trusts Scorpio to be as careful and cautious as he (or she) might be—also wiser, more sensitive—and so the Virgins believe that there’s every possibility Scorpio’s views may be the correct ones. Second, Virgo has already calculated the percentage possibility of winning a battle of wits with the Eagle and has decided there’s not much of a chance, at best. Further, the Virgo man or woman is acutely aware of the almost certain unpleasant results if Scorpio is goaded too far or unnecessarily challenged—and unpleasant confrontations are counterproductive to their common goals. (Counterproductive is one of Virgo’s favorite words.)

Virgos are enormously practical about such things. It’s this level-headed quality which makes Scorpio smile on the Virgins. They are nice, sensible sorts . . smiling, bright-eyed, and polite creatures to have around, in no way a threat. In some indefinable manner, Virgos seem to calm the Pluto spirit—and where Virgos may cause others to be jumpy, or to feel slightly guilty for not being perfect around them, they have the opposite effect on Scorpio. In truth, Scorpios often feel strangely loose and relaxed in the presence of Virgo. It is no small feat to make a Scorp feel loose.

This is a 3-11 Sun Sign Pattern, blending the Earth and Water elements. Translated from the symbolic to the real, this means Scorpio will somehow feel that he or she has found roots in an association with Virgo—and the latter will have a strong sense of being enriched in many ways from the Pluto contact. In some unexpected and unconventional way, Virgo will quietly and unobtrusively help to bring about Scorpio’s hopes, wishes, and dreams—also social success, prestige, and standing in the career or community. Scorpio will open Virgo’s mind to many new vistas of thought and progressive theories, bringing to the Virgin an easy communication of ideas. Relatives of one or the other may either introduce the two of them, or be prominent in some way, at some time, in the association.

More than any other person (except perhaps Taurus, Cancer, and Capricorn), Scorpio can check Virgo’s tendency to worry and sulk, with the result that Virgos seem calmer, more tranquil, less restless and jittery around Scorpio. The two of them do have a distinct beneficial influence on one another, as compared to the eerie (Scorpio) and disquieting (Virgo) effect they each are capable of having on others. If their Moon Signs or Ascendents should happen to negatively aspect in their mutual charts, there will be, of course, less beneficial influence, more irritation and tension. However, it will only continue for a brief period under normal circumstances. Scorpio is not one to suffer silently—or for long—before firmly proposing a change in attitude, and then demanding a dissolution of the association if the change is not forthcoming, forthwith. Virgos don’t linger long either, after they’ve been disillusioned. Like the Cheshire cat and old soldiers, both of these people can just fade away, and never return.

Whether they’re thrown together as relatives, siblings, parent and child, friends, or lovers, they have certain traits in common which will open doors of understanding between them. For example, both Virgo and Scorpio know their individual assets as well as they know their liabilities. Neither of them will either undersell or oversell himself, or herself. They each know their own talents and capabilities, without being egotistical over the knowledge. They’re both equally aware of their shortcomings, of the limits of what they may expect from the inner self—and they won’t go beyond those limits. The typical Virgo will never be found pressing his or her luck beyond prudence, and the same is true of Scorpio. When an Eagle takes a big chance, you can be sure that here is one confident Eagle! (But he will have figured the percentages carefully.) Scorpios can be wrong now and then, but they’re right more often than they miscalculate. It’s a quality Virgo admires and respects. Being a Mutable Sign, Virgo will neither be envious of, nor will seriously compete with, Scorpio—who senses this right away, which is one of the reasons Scorpio can relax with these people, and let down the defense bars this man or woman (or child) uses against other Sun Signs. There is no need for the Eagle to take excessive self-protective measures with the Virgin (except maybe a pair of earmuffs, for when the nagging starts).

Virgo will never agree with another Sun Sign’s description of the Scorp as ruthless, cold, and dangerous. This is not the way Virgo sees the Eagle at all. In Virgo’s eyes, the Pluto person is warm, generous, and protective—as well as sympathetic and compassionate. Nor will Scorpio normally allow anyone to put down Virgo by calling the Virgins picky, fussy, and nervous. How can this be, when Scorpio is always cooler than usual (and that’s pretty cool!), plus more peaceful, when a Virgo friend, relative, or mate is near? You must be talking about someone else, not Virgo. Once a tie between these two has been established, the Virgin will usually receive the full force of Pluto’s protective powers, and will enjoy as well Scorpio’s fierce loyalty, given to those who have earned it. If anyone tries to harm a Virgo who’s already won the devotion of a Scorp, that person is warned to back away while there is still time. There’s something gentle and defenseless about all Virgins, male or female, and when the Scorp sees someone verbally or otherwise preparing to attack or abuse this courteous, helpless soul, the Eagle will step in to turn all the energy of Pluto’s power against the attacker, who will seldom fail to retreat—unless it’s another Scorpio, with the Moon in Gemini or Sagittarius, who has hurt the Virgo. (In that case, Virgo should leave town for a few days, rather than get caught in the midst of an exchange of Pluto force between two Scorps, neither of whom will back down until one is declared victor.)

The less evolved Earthlings born under the sign of the Virgin are sometimes capable of biting sarcasm and bitter verbal expression. Indeed, an occasional caustic (but cauterizing!) criticism is actually Virgos’ one and only, their single, flaw. But you’ll never convince them of this. Virgos believe they possess every flaw and defect known to man—or woman. You name it, they’ll plead guilty to it. Yet, even a self-effacing Virgo will seldom go so far as to owning up to a charge of selfishness. No accusation could be more unjust. These men and women have a compulsion to serve, in one way or another, every Earthling who crosses their paths. Unselfishness is engraved upon the very heart and soul of Virgo—these sometimes cranky, but more often polite and always willing-to-be-helpful people who bring their graceful and gracious ways to bless our troubles.

If I were you, I wouldn’t ever dare to call them selfish within the hearing of a Scorpio who has experienced the gentle devotion of a Virgo over the years. That would be an extremely unwise thing to do.

Virgo Woman and Scorpio Man

… and when Wendy finished he uttered a hollow groan.

What is it, Peter? she cried, running to him, thinking he was ill … Where is it, Peter?

It isn’t that kind of pain, Peter replied darkly.

One of the Virgo woman’s most shining virtues is her gentle and unselfish devotion to the man she loves. One of the Scorpio man’s most laudable qualities is his loyal and intense devotion to the woman he loves. So, here they are, this female with her starlit eyes, her clear, bell-like voice and gracious manner . . and this man, with his deep, wise eyes, his smooth, mellow voice and magnetic ways . . the two of them gently-unselfishly-loyally-intensely … devoted to one another.

Isn’t it a beautiful picture? Like a Degas painting of a pastoral scene, in delicate pinks, greens, and blues . . shimmering white . . with rich, velvety undertones of color . . burgundy and forest green. An absolutely perfect creation of poetic joy and beauty and tranquility, all combined.

WAIT! STOP! DEAR-GOD-IN-HEAVEN!

Is that … could that possibly be … a spot? Perhaps a smear of soil or a scratch … from careless handling? A fingerprint, maybe … or might it be . . horrors! . . a fly someone swatted and squashed on that heavenly splash of white-cloud-and-blue sky, in the upper right-hand corner? It could be, of course, an ant … crawling across the canvas. But it doesn’t appear to be moving. Let’s walk over closer, and see. May I borrow your magnifying glass, please? Thank you very much.

It is a spot. Definitely a spot. There isn’t the slightest doubt. Can you see it? Look closely. A mar, a blemish … something not intended by the artist.

… . . or was it intended by the artist?

Yes. It was intended by the artist. It was deliberately designed to add the truth and beauty, the poetry of imperfection to his work of art. You see, imperfection is what links us to the angels, who are also, in varying degrees, imperfect.

The concept of perfection is the most boring and soul-killing ever conceived within the dangerous doctrine of oblivion called Nirvana. Like every single other religion or philosophic theory in this world, from the Alpha to whenever the Omega may be scheduled—the Yoga way of life is essentially good, yet nevertheless, like all the rest (including astrology) it contains a few negative seeds of distorted truth. Nirvana is one of them. Nirvana’s synonym—perfection—is another.

To tolerate minor flaws and imperfections, to treat these tenderly in one another, is one of the Great Spiritual Lessons of Truth—but Virgo will decidedly dislike learning it. Scorpio was born comprehending it. Maybe he can explain it to her. She’ll listen to him. Because she respects his opinions and his judgments—and because she trusts him not to lead her astray. Yes, she trusts this man. Let us hope her individual Scorpio deserves that faith.

Quite likely, he does. The sense of integrity in a typical Scorpion runs strong. It’s almost impossible for an Eagle not to live up to what is expected of him, what others trust him to stand for—unshakable integrity. Or, at the very least, the courage to be true to himself, as he sees himself—to a situation, as he sees that situation.

The Virgo woman may believe that, if the Scorpio man is true to himself, this means he will never keep anything from her. Not necessarily. What he will never do is be dishonest with her. There is a difference. He will never be dishonest, according to his private code, which is his individually, and may not be that of another Scorpio’s, but will always be high on the integrity list. Once an Eagle has committed himself to a relationship, he will be true to his vows of love—unless his horoscope has serious planetary afflictions to the fifth and seventh houses and to his natal Sun, and even then, he’ll be extremely uncomfortable in the role of unfaithful lover or husband. His natural instinct is to be loyal—and to be honest.

The Virgin who’s involved with this man, and still undecided about the safety of planning a long-term relationship with him, can be sure that, should another woman ever enter his life, it will either be a fleeting thing—or she will be truthfully told that his heart has wandered elsewhere. He may be tempted, even succumb to temptation, perhaps. But before much time has passed, he will have carefully evaluated the involvement. If he believes it has no future, he will end it immediately, return his heart to her, where it belongs … and suffer agonizing pangs of regret over his mistake. If he regards the new attachment as genuine, he will confess his change of affection to her as tenderly as possible, and allow her the dignity of truth before they part. But if it was nothing but a brief, regrettable mistake, she may never know. Scorpio keeps secrets as long as he feels they will neither hurt nor help another. The secrets he keeps from her, both before and after they marry, need not be romantic secrets. They’ll involve many intricate human emotions far removed from romance. Not every last mystery will be revealed. He may not itemize each fleeting fragment of fantasy that floats through his consciousness to her, but he will share perhaps more of himself with the Virgin than with most other people.

One of the Virgo woman’s outstanding characteristics is self-sufficiency. She doesn’t think the world—or a man—owes her anything. One of the Eagle’s outstanding characteristics is self-confidence. He doesn’t wait around for the world—or a woman—to judge his worth or value. He’s aware of it himself, and is certain the world will eventually recognize it. So will any woman who expects to be his woman.

It hardly ever happens that these two aggressively pursue love by rushing into each other’s arms when they first meet. Both of them are shy, sometimes even painfully shy. Oh, she may chatter away with friends on a myriad of subjects, and he may be loquacious with his relatives, close friends, or working associates, but in the area of human emotions, they are both inclined to be reticent. Her self-sufficiency and his self-confidence are buried beneath the surface, like a hidden treasure they secretly count on when the world lets them down. It’s not likely these two will ever let each other down, because being able to trust another person is so very important to them both.

Until he knows her better, he may be suspicious of her motives for little or no reason, as he is of everyone. Later, he’ll probably trust her to be just what she appears to be, what she says she is—no more, and no less (like himself), and it will bring him more peace of mind to know this simple thing than he will ever admit. When he reaches out to her, this man of many enigmatic moods, she’s always there. It comforts him, and softens the edge of his private fears.

This man’s love nature is more intense than that of the average male, which is only natural, because in no way is Scorpio average. Her love nature is more transcendental, yet there is also much of the earthy in her intimate behavior with him, for Virgo is of the Earth Element. It’s a combination to which he’ll respond eagerly, for he has two sides to his sexual needs also. One part of him looks upon the union between man and woman as a mystical experience, a holy thing. The other part is sensuous, erotic, seeking every level of passion for absolute fulfillment. In the beginning, there may be areas of adjustment in their lovemaking, but when they’ve learned they can be themselves with each other, without fear of hurt or rejection, the problems will disappear.

Strangely, with both of them, there could be a holding back in the physical expression of love. Some part of him remains under strict control, not abandoned to the desires of the flesh; some part of her remains virginal and untouched . . almost as though they each await an undefined miracle of love’s affirmation to free their souls to join their hearts and bodies. Even with a Virgo woman who has been happily married for years, and who has co-created children with her husband, a virgin still sleeps somewhere within, unawakened. Even with the Scorpio man who’s been a devoted husband and father for many years, the deepest seed of love’s mystery lies in wait for Pluto’s release—and until that unknown moment, remains silent and unstirred within. A comment of Pascal’s may hold a hint of the end of the waiting. Le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ne connaît point the heart has its reasons, whereof reason knows nothing.

There’s every chance these two will agree on almost all matters financial. Neither is the type to throw money away, with nary a care for tomorrow. Both feel more secure in every way by following the example of the cautious squirrels. I seriously doubt if there’s a Virgo-Scorpio couple anywhere on the planet without a savings account. This woman is more concerned with a financially secure future than with luxuries of the moment. (Barring her Moon or Ascendent being in an extravagant sign, of course.) And this man will think about his major purchases for a period of time before writing a check.

Having enough cash available for vacations, preferably long ones, is important to both of them. He gathers renewed psychic energy, emotional peace, and mental equilibrium by spending unhurried, quiet days and nights near the sea. It restoreth his soul. She must have a change of scene frequently to soothe her spirit. Sameness and monotony are truly deadly to the Virgo essence, very literally unhealthy for her mentally, emotionally, and physically. The Mercury rays create a great deal of nervous energy and restlessness in Virgo, which markedly increases after long periods without change—and dramatically decreases after a trip, long or short. It doesn’t matter so much to her if the trip is a vacation, for the purpose of resting—or a business trip requiring a more frantic work schedule than usual in some way—he’ll see her blossom, her soft eyes shine. It’s the change of scene, not the relaxation, which has healed her. Whether it’s the Arc de Triomphe, amid noisy Paris streets . . or a quiet, secluded beach in the middle of nowhere . . isn’t important. The important thing to Virgo is that it’s different from her normal, dull, daily routine.

Other people may call the Scorpio man undemonstrative and cold, but they do not know him as she does. Once he’s fallen in love with her, she’ll know his depth of feeling and his great generosity. Other people may call the Virgo woman overly analytical and unimaginative, but they do not know her as he does. Once she’s fallen in love with him, she’ll reveal the tender and poetic side of her nature others seldom see. As written in the Old Testament, in the book of Proverbs: For who can tell the way of an eagle in the air … or of a man with a maid? Both Virgo and Scorpio tend to reserve their real selves for someone special, a love that’s for keeps—with all the necessary and very precious immperfectionss.

Virgo Man and Scorpio Woman

I have one pound seventeen here, and two and six at the office; I can cut off my coffee at the office, say ten shillings, making two nine and six, with your eighteen and three makes three nine seven … … … . eight nine seven, dot and carry seven—don’t speak, my own—and the pound you lent to that man who came to the door … . . there, you’ve done it! . . did I say nine nine seven? yes, I said nine nine seven; the question is, can we try it for a year on nine nine seven?

Of course we can, George! she cried.

An astrological message to the Scorpio girl: (Scorpio woman, that is; these females are really never girls, not even when they’re twelve—and so, to the Scorpio woman who’s wondering about a Virgo male who has caught her eye, and almost trapped her heart: Go ahead and love him. He needs you. You can help him.

This man has a problem. He always has a problem, whatever type Virgo he may be, and there are several types. In any case, the problem will be precisely tailored to his individual need. Actually, Virgo men have more than one problem. There are his own personal ones, which come in various shapes and sizes, plus those of all the chaotic, untidy, and careless people he knows, whose lives are a dreadful mess. But it’s his private problem of any given time which is of more urgency to the lady Eagle. With her mystical bent and powerful psychic penetration, she’s just the one to help him with it. It could be delicate and trifling, or of a serious nature. Whatever it is, she’s needed.

As only one example, she could be involved with the type of Virgo man who possesses a simply startling imagination, at times too vivid, his Mercury-ruled mental world peopled with all manner of creatures not of this dimension, which he can describe in exquisite, if sometimes frightening, detail, down to the last whisker and broomstick. This will be especially true if he has a Scorpio Moon or Ascendent, which he very well may, if the two of them are attracted to one another, he and this enigmatic Scorpio woman, who wishes to protect, respect, and love him, all at once. A Scorpio influence in his birth chart can cause the Virgo’s imaginary mental playmates to be—well, not very playful sorts. Under a Scorpio vibration in his own Virgo nativity, they could take strange forms indeed, dark and sinister, leading him to spook himself through a Virgo-like compulsion to investigate anything from witchcraft and voodoo, to hypnosis and cloning. Some Virgo men are so avidly inquisitive about evil, despite—or maybe because of—their inherent purity, they can take some really weird trips into the twilight zones of the human psyche. But this is, actually, all to the good, because when he’s scared himself silly through his neat and careful, painstaking research of the shadows, and he’s sitting there overcome by a vague uneasiness he’s too embarrassed to admit, the blankets pulled over his head, hiding from himself, she’ll know just what buttons to push to bring him out from under his tent.

Oh, my goodness! she’ll exclaim, in mock shock. Just look at that! There are five loose threads at the corner of this quilt—no, it’s more accurately six loose threads, and the satin binding has a tear in it. Instantly, the Virgo man’s head will peek out from his chocolate-brown blanket, his eyes as bright as can be, to check the flaw she pointed out, and he’ll quickly mend it. Wise woman, she is.

Or she could be involved with another type of Virgo male, slightly in the majority, who is unable, no matter how hard he tries, to see the flowers for the thorns, the snow for the slush. As acute as his intellect may be—and probably is, for all Virgos are smarties, with very sharp, analytical brains—his finer astral senses are so out of tune he can’t see the sound of the surf or hear the full Moon, let alone see Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue … . . or hear the music of an Andrew Wyeth painting. This is a real handicap, as you may well imagine (and as you may also well imagine, the Virgos reading this will all believe I’ve mixed up my verbs. I’m resigned to an avalanche of letters).

Unlike the Virgos with the overactive imaginations, described in our first example, these more typical Virgos possess only the merest wisp of an imagination, and it’s a sad thing to observe, although it’s not a problem beyond the powers of the Scorpio woman to banish. As an example of this kind of Virgin, I know a very handsome, super-intelligent Virgo man, who’s kind and gentle to dogs and babies, and sparkles with a multitude of commendable virtues. To look at him, you’d never guess he had a problem to his name. But, alas, he does. He was given a copy of St. Exupéry’s The Little Prince to read by his equally handsome, super-intelligent, but wiser, more aware, and sensitive Moon-in-Scorpio, Leo brother, who hoped the book might open new and exciting vistas to him. It was a vain hope.

This Virgin’s only reaction, after reading it, was to spend several minutes carefully explaining to his sibling precisely why there could not possibly be anyone an asteroid. He explained it all quite nicely and scientifically and logically—and, of course, courteously (Virgos are all very mannerly). When his brother told him he’d missed the whole message of the book, a puzzled frown engraved itself on his perfectly chiseled features. What lesson could a grown man learn from a children’s book? he wondered.

One might as well ask what lessons can be learned from children themselves. One might as well not believe in elves and druids and leprechauns … . . or in any sort of magic. Can you imagine what this Virgo would have said twenty years ago, when he and his brother were teenagers, if the latter had remarked that it would be interesting to take a stroll on the Moon?

There are, of course, many Virgos who are more enlightened than this one (and even he may someday read St. Exupéry’s book again, with a more open mind), but the average Virgin, whatever his individual type, has, to some degree, a need to learn that the really important things in life are those which can only be seen with the heart—and a Scorpio woman is an excellent teacher of the intangible.

Her task in instructing this man that there are more things in Heaven and on Earth, George, than you dream of with your slide rule and wheat germ, tofu, and Tums-for-the-tummy … … will require all her talents of concentration. A Virgo man is sensational with details, a little fuzzy on the larger picture. He needs a woman who will be patient with him as she teaches him about asteroids, auras, the reversal of gravity, and astral projection—although, if she’s in love with the first type of Virgo we discussed at the beginning of this section, she should take it easy on the astral, because of all those little goblins who haunt his dreams. Too much concentration on this sort of thing could—and please forgive my scatological frankness—bring on a severe case of the eternal Virgo affliction, constipation.

Her most important lesson will be the one she can teach him about the birds and the bees. The birds and bees have long been ancillary to explaining sex (and she’ll have a few lessons to teach on that subject too, no doubt), but I use the reference in its literal sense. A good place to begin is with Nature’s enigma of the common bumblebee. By all the inflexible, Virgo-type laws of physics and aerodynamics, related to body weight, wing span, and so forth, the bumblebee is designed in such a manner that he cannot possibly fly. Fortunately, neither Virgos nor scientists have yet managed to communicate this irrefutable logic to the bumblebee, and so, in his abysmal ignorance, the cheerful, trusting little chap goes right on flying!

Extreme patience is necessary when enlightening the Virgo man to this great secret of metaphysics, because he’ll strain his brain cells considerably in attempting to answer the puzzle, will finally be forced to admit he’s unable to do so—and could consequently suffer a minor nervous breakdown, along with his constipation and ever-present indigestion. It’s downright mean to cause him to cope with all three at the same time.

Whatever lessons she’s teaching this intelligent, gentle man, the Scorpio woman should be aware that he may become distracted when she’s near enough so he can smell her perfume . . near enough to reach out and touch … near enough to confuse his mental processes, make his pulse race faster, and lead his thoughts into the other kind of birds-and-bees meditation.

The sexual relationship of this 3-11 Sun Sign Pattern couple is normally one requiring adjustments to be made on both sides, yet it can gradually become an experience of great beauty, once the adjustments have been made. The physical demonstration of their love will be perhaps easier for her to express than for him. If it’s less than perfect every time, he may brood and wonder what’s wrong, blaming himself. (Virgos blame themselves for nearly everything.) She instinctively knows that lovemaking is like every other area of human contact between those who love—sometimes a miracle of mutual joy, sometimes only a quiet exchange of affection, at other times passionately intense, but at all times able to bring them closer to solving the mystery of each other’s deeper dreams and needs. His emotional nature is somewhat more cool and controlled than hers. Still, he longs wistfully to learn the intangible, inexpressible secrets of mating she seems to know so instinctively. She, in turn, is drawn by the sheer honesty and simplicity he brings to their intimacy, for Scorpio, although very curious about the sensual aspects of sex, inwardly senses the purity of its mystical meaning—and potential. Neither Virgos nor Scorpios ever abandon their whole selves to sexual blending. Each holds back, for different reasons, some private, untouched core of beingness. To achieve total consummation together is a challenge which can continue to stimulate them both all through their years of loving, for at any moment—or never—the holding back may end, allowing them to achieve real wholeness. Such an unexpressed, but deeply felt anticipation, not surprisingly, often enriches the sexual side of a relationship rather than harms it. Man’s reach . . and woman’s . . must exceed their grasp, or what’s a heaven for?

Because he possesses an inquiring nature, he will be hurt by her silences. This man is curious, he needs to know and understand everything around him, especially the woman he loves, and she is not easy to fathom. He’ll be more successful if he realizes that predictable formulas don’t always work to solve the human equation. It’s elusive, unlike a problem in trigonometry, and the answer cannot be precalculated. You understand scientific theories and financial statements with the mind. You can only understand a woman with your heart … and the heart is seldom logical.

A Virgo man can switch from endearing tenderness and a gentle manner to inquisitiveness, sarcasm, and a coldly analytical attitude. Too much of the latter mood switch, and he could regret it. A Scorpio woman who’s been wounded more than once will be unconsciously compelled to teach the one who has hurt her a lesson. If he doesn’t learn, if he continues to repeat the mistake, she will leave. But he will be warned, long in advance, that she’s unhappy. If he’s tuned-in to her on the channel of love, he’ll pick up the signals in time to heal the hurt and save their love. These two have much in common, such as basic honesty and integrity, a thirst for knowledge, and strength of purpose. They will be friends, as well as lovers, defend each other against outside threats. When the unhappiness of either is initiated by themselves, he’s sensible enough to persuade her to talk it over, and not allow emotion to completely rule reason. If they share a negative Luminary (Sun-Moon) or Ascendent aspect between their nativities, neither may be very sensible. He may retreat into stony hardness and burrow into himself, sulking. She may fly into some intense and frightening rages. Still, it’s always a lot easier for friends to patch up a quarrel than for lovers to do so, and since the two of them are influenced by the 3-11 vibration, and are, therefore, both friends and lovers, even a violent disagreement needn’t be the end of the relationship. It could be, instead, the beginning of a new understanding.

This man and woman have many lessons to teach one another. In the past, many people have tried to get him to see with his heart, and failed. But with her, he’s willing to try. In the past, many people have tried to persuade her to be less suspicious of happiness, to be more open with her feelings, and have not succeeded. But with him, she’s willing to try. Maybe that’s because, as Goethe wisely observed … we only really learn from those we love.
