… . they are very wild and difficult of approach.
Yes, they are. Both of them. And so, at the outset, I’ll say that I am not going to take sides with either of these squared Sun Signs of the 4-10 vibrational pattern. Throughout this chapter, I intend to remain in the middle, neutral, like Canada and Switzerland. On second thought, the literal middle may not be a safe place to be. One is then wide open and exposed to becoming the recipient of whatever these two may fling at each other, like words, baseball bats, boomerangs, yo-yos, hulahoops, Frisbees, insults, compliments, rage, respect—any number of unexpected things.
However, moving right along, and still bravely trying to remain in the middle, it must be admitted that Aquarians are very wild, undeniably—and that Scorpios are difficult of approach, indisputably. Ergo, therefore, i.e.: as a combination, the Water Bearer and the Eagle are indeed very wild and difficult of approach. Separately or together, but especially together.
One wonders how these two ever manage to get together in the first place! One also wonders if it is wise for these two to get together, in the second place. The square between their Sun Signs admittedly creates a certain amount of tension (like, each thinks the other is playing with half a deck, has bats in the belfry and is completely loco—you get the general idea), but in astrology, tension is synonymous with energy (also in physics; therefore, even more so in meta-physics). So let’s say that there is a lot of … uh, energy (we’re being tactful) between any 4-10 Sun Sign Pattern like Scorpio-Aquarius. The problem is—no, let’s try to be positive—the question is: What are the Eagle and the Water Bearer going to do with this tremendous flow of tension (I mean energy) passing back and forth between them? Are they going to channel it into senseless conflict—or into the kind of powerful energy that makes windmills spin, ships sail, trains run, birds fly… . and spacecraft break the time barrier?
Just because someone looks upon life through one end of a telescope, and you gaze through the other, is no reason to quarrel and fuss. If it were the same telescope, you’d see that you were both gazing at each other. (Well, hello there! Fancy meeting you, of all people, in the middle of a telescope!) Of course, one pair of eyes would look smaller, the other larger, because that’s how telescopes are made, but you are not a telescope. You are an Aquarian, who should not take such a distorted view of all Scorps as sneaky, conservative, ruthless, stingy nasties. And you are an Eagle, who must stop taking such a distorted view of all Water Bearers as people who belong in the monkey house in the zoo, except that the monkeys might object. That kind of energy wouldn’t power a windmill so much as half a turn, chug a train out of the station or lift a bird from the branch of a tree, wings or no wings.
Recall your favorite sci-fi film. In almost every one, there comes a moment when the film’s protagonist will view with suspicion and caution the unknown creature that emerges from the Great Mother Ship or the oversized egg or the stomach of another human being. The strange life form appears harmless enough—although one can’t be altogether sure—oddly shaped and possessing any number of possibly freaky philosophies. This is precisely the way the typical Scorpio views the typical Aquarian, whether the Water Bearer has just emerged from the Great Mother Ship, from the apartment next door, Starbucks, a neighboring barn, a ski lift in Aspen or the Principal’s office.
Aquarius takes a similarly tentative view of Scorpio. These people seem relatively mild-mannered and quiet, but you never know quite what they’re thinking, and those few, those rare Scorps who are talkative and cheery, are even spookier, because you just know that they have to be hiding something. Besides, they all have that strange stare that makes you feel that a laser beam is penetrating your Third Eye—to be honest, your entire body. They’re always on the defensive, it seems; so sensitive you never know what you may say that could bring on that stare, and you’ve heard wild stories about the kinds of thing they do to get even if you step on their tails.
No wonder these two approach each other with their safety belts fastened securely, Aquarius packing a parachute, just in case, and Scorpio carrying a hidden water pistol, just in case. It won’t do a bit of good. The water pistol. Aquarius is not a Fire Sign you can squirt on and extinguish. Aquarius is an Air Sign, and all your Scorpio Water will not drown this person. Unlike Fire and Water, Water and Air are not mutually capable of destroying each other. Actually, Water and Air tend to ignore each other, if anything. Look at the way the air moves around above a stream, a lake, a river, an ocean or a duck pond or a puddle. It doesn’t even know the water is down there, nor does it care. Think of the way rain water falls down through the air, right through it, if you please, without even asking May I?, as if the air didn’t even exist. Yet, when the Air and Water elements get together as two Sun Signs, and really work at harmony, the result can be as inspiring, uplifting and intoxicating as the scent of fresh rain, mixed with the air of spring, falling on new-mown hay or grass. Is there any fragrance on this Earth more gorgeous and bursting with miracles than this? You don’t have to live on a farm or in the country to answer in the affirmative. Wet city sidewalks, freshly rained upon, coupled with the warm air of spring, will have the same dizzying effect upon the sensitive soul. Just thinking about it makes me want to leave the typewriter and run somewhere exciting … anywhere at all! But I have at least one planet in Taurus, bless my Faerie Godmother, and so I shall resist the impulse, and remain here in my solitary confinement, pounding the keys. I hope (seriously) that this paragraph has impressed you with the possibilities of beauty in an association between Aquarius and Scorpio when they both work at it. It takes some self-sacrifice, but it’s so worthwhile.
Many times, as with 4-10 people of any two Sun Signs, the Water Bearer and the Eagle are brought together in an association involving career or the family circle. Far more often than in friendship or romantic relationships, although the latter, even if less frequent, may also be beneficial, once the edges are smoothed. A 4-10 vibration requires extra effort, and this may be why the combination is so often found in situations where there’s not a lot of choice in the matter, such as in business associations and blood relationships—which proves that all of our Higher Selves are wiser in the synchronicity of such matters than we puppets, whose strings they manipulate, not trusting us to always make the correct choice for the good of our souls.
One pastime Scorpio and Aquarius both enjoy (or maybe I should say are unable to resist) when they’re together is probing each other’s secrets. Both are born detectives, and neither can stand not knowing what makes the other tick. They’ll take each other apart, like the works of a clock, Scorpio in a subtle, deceptively casual manner, Aquarius in an occasionally rude and always very direct manner. I’m sure the Aquarians reading this will be protesting that they’re not interested in anyone’s business, and therefore are not snoopy. True, they aren’t interested for the purpose of passing on gossip or being judgmental, but they are very much interested in checking things out, in accumulating data, so to speak.
The thing is, although both Scorpio and Aquarius would like to learn everything they can about each other, neither wants her (or his) own mysteries unveiled. Obviously, it’s a situation fraught with all sorts of possibilities. Each individual association is different, but normally the Scorpion has a slight edge on the Water Bearer when it comes to plumbing the other person’s secrets, while managing to keep one’s own personal eccentricities and private idiosyncrasies under lock and key. Not always, but most of the time.
Another wee difficulty they’ll have to overcome is that both Scorpio and Aquarius are Fixed Signs. Fixed is one degree this side of stubborn. By this side I mean on the side of slightly more so. Like, unmoving. Difficult to budge from a position. The problem is, I believe, self-evident. The solution requires one or both of them to have the Moon or Ascendent in a Mutable Sign. This would help a great deal. Very little else will. But the wisdom of the stars will usually ensure that at least one of them is influenced by Mutable planet positions at birth. (Of course, Fixed also means stable and lasting, so, like everything else, it has its positive side.)
One difference between these two is that Scorpio has a long, long memory (only the memory of the Bull is longer, with the Crab running third)—and Aquarius is doing well to recall whether her (or his) car is parked. This absent-mindedness of the Uranus genius does come in handy, however, for forgetting old wounds. The typical Water Bearer will seldom hold a grudge or go out of the way to get even. Scorpio would do well to imitate this Aquarian trait. On the other side of the fence, Scorpio is an expert in the fine art of self-control, not always, but usually keeping his (or her) emotions disciplined, and Aquarius would do well to imitate Scorpio’s Pluto composure and pose, since the average Water Bearer possesses very little self-control and can flash into a streak of anger as unexpectedly as a lightning bolt (although it normally just as quickly passes).
Scorpio is inclined to spend money at a somewhat slower rate than Aquarius (although there are exceptions), and is usually aware of where and how it’s been spent, whereas Aquarius may not remember whether it was spent, stolen or left on a basement shelf by accident. Aquarians are always misplacing their car and house keys, sometimes as frequently as every single day. Scorpio wouldn’t dare lose her (or his) key ring often, because there are at least fifty keys hanging on it, including the keys to the refrigerator, the clothes closet and the bathroom. (Scorps adore locking up things against nameless intruders. It makes them feel secure.)
Still, with all their interwoven and tangled qualities and clashing habits, an association between Scorpio and Aquarius is potentially an interesting experiment and experience for each of them, even for the innocent bystanders and onlookers. It’s educational … enlightening. There’s one quality Pluto and Uranus bestow upon both Scorpio and Aquarius—one word that describes the influence of these stars over both their personalities: unpredictable. This same word perfectly sums up all possible scores in any compatibility game between them. But neither Scorpio nor Aquarius would have it any other way. The Eagle and the Water Bearer are not the kind to enjoy making a bet on a sure thing.
Scorpio Woman and Aquarius Man Zodiac Compatibility
He would come down laughing over something fearfully funny he had been saying to a star, but he had already forgotten what it was, or he would come up with mermaid scales still sticking to him, and yet not be able to say for certain what had been happening. It was really rather irritating.
Maybe what he needs is a periscope. It would, at least, be something. When the Aquarian man is helplessly submerged in the Water element of a Scorpio woman, because she’s enticed him with the mysteries of her deep, he can’t help but wonder what’s happening in the outside world, above and beyond. At first, he may not be sure he really wants to leave behind this thrilling green world of romantic suspense, where he never knows, from one day to the next, if he’s going to be treated to the sight of breathtakingly beautiful coral reefs, some incredible buried treasure, glittering and gleaming in the half light, a sudden school of golden fish, playfully swimming by … . or will step on a stingray … . or get caught up in the tangled seaweed of her dark depressions. He hesitates to float to the surface, lest he be unable to find his way back again. The depths of the Scorpion ocean are always moving, changing, deceptive … misleading you with strangeness, just when they seem to be familiar.
Still, he’s fairly bursting to know what’s occurring to all the birds and sailors and ships up there. A periscope is the only answer during this initial stage of his relationship with a Scorpio female. Having one, he can continue to paddle around in the intense emotional involvement of their love affair, and simultaneously be aware of what’s going on in the real world. He can attach it to his shoulders, and the end of it will bob merrily above the waves, while the all-seeing eye of its lens flashes to him a picture of north-south-east-and-west, and he won’t feel so left out of everything.
Even with a periscope, however, the Aquarian male who needs an excessive amount of air to breathe (both symbolically and literally, because his physical circulation is poor) may find his tank of patience running short of oxygen. Scorpios tend to be possessive when they love, and Aquarians simply will not be possessed for more than brief periods of time. Yet if he really cares about this intriguing, magnetic woman, he may discover that being possessed is preferable to becoming unpossessed and depossessed at the same time, when he’s hurt her by demanding too much freedom. Then she’ll no longer care where he goes or what he does, and may even behave as though he’s not still among the living. There’s no use banging on her door, calling her on the phone or writing her letters, because why should she answer the phone or door to a nonexistent entity—or read letters from an invisible man? The deep freeze of an angry or wounded Scorpion can leave a Water Bearer with a frostbitten heart, and frostbite can be a serious thing. He might wish she’d start being possessive again. It was certainly more pleasant swimming around in her cool, calm deep than it is shivering under her disapproval.
Of course, her icy detachment is probably a pretense, her defense against further hurt—her way of teaching him a lesson he’ll remember. When other people become invisible to Scorp, they usually remain that way, but when her heart is involved, she may try to pull off the same sort of revenge, then discover she doesn’t really mean it, yet not know how to stop, until it grows into a situation of silent desperation, as unpleasant for her as for him. An emotional deadlock. But if anyone can break a deadlock of any kind at all, it’s this man. His finest talents lie in breaking things—breaking the orthodox, breaking convention, shocking people with bolts of Uranus lightning and buzz saws of erratic, totally unexpected remarks and behavior. He’ll jolt her out of the romantic deadend they’ve reached in some eccentric Uranian manner—then they can go swimming together again, more cautiously this time. It’s to be hoped that she’ll have learned the valuable lesson that he can bear emotional intensity only sparingly. Otherwise, he’ll lose his tenuous hold on his self-control. He’s not nearly the expert in self-discipline that she is. The lesson we hope he’ll learn is that, although Scorpio feelings may churn and burn within, the features (except for rare moments of weakness) remain composed and placid. The quieter this woman is the more upset she feels.
The Water Bearer rejects such disguises. When he’s genuinely upset, she won’t have to guess. He’ll make it abundantly clear. However, while he may not use a mask to cover his more volatile emotions, the Aquarian does enjoy surprising people. He won’t always announce his thoughts aloud, and there are a couple of reasons. Sometimes, his thoughts pop into, and right back out of, his mind too quickly for him to remember, let alone to verbalize. At other times, he wisely refrains from voicing what he’s thinking, because he senses he’ll be changing his mind or idea in a few minutes, so why waste energy expressing something so transient? At still different times, he keeps his thoughts to himself because he secretly thinks it’s kicky to see her surprised look, or her shock, when he says or does something special for which no preview has been given. (You can’t blame him, nothing is more soul satisfying than forcing a Scorp to show shock.)
She’ll complain about the car’s shabby looks and performance for weeks, without receiving a single word of sympathy or agreement from him, his blank, faraway gaze indicating he’s meditating on a number of other things and hasn’t even heard her. Then, PRESTO!—some marvelous upside-down morning she’ll glance out the window to check the weather, and a new car will have materialized in the front yard overnight—her favorite color, rich dark wine. When she runs to embrace and thank him, he’ll feign innocence, claim no knowledge of how it got there and insist the leprechauns left it.
Some people call Aquarians crazy, but the Scorpio woman who loves her Water Bearer will find it a wonderful kind of craziness that goes a long way toward releasing her spirit for an exciting trip into the kind of freedom of expression she lacks—although an independent character was hers before she met him. Scorps live their personal lives as they like, refusing to conform to anyone’s notions of proper behavior in private. Yet Pluto restricts her from displaying her true emotions, or verbalizing her deepest feelings, while at the same time encouraging her to behave in a markedly individualistic manner, apparently scorning any control over her actions. The latter quality is one of the simpatico things between the Eagle and the Water Bearer. The Uranus-ruled man is likewise contemptuous of society’s demands that he live his private life in accordance with other people’s opinions. The difference is that his independence has high public visibility and hers is exposed (usually) only behind closed doors. Consequently, most of their disagreements occur over his public capers rather than his private behavior. His eccentric antics acutely embarrass her when they’re performed before friends, relatives, neighbors or strangers, but when they’re alone together, she beams at him admiringly. It can be confusing, until he gets it straightened out.
The woman’s Pluto revenge compulsion to even the score may manifest itself years after the heartache that caused it, because Scorpio is always willing to wait for the right opportunity. I knew a lady Eagle who was justifiably angered and wounded over the way her Aquarian boy friend left her and later fell in love with a Libra woman—right before her eyes. She did nothing then but bravely retreat, in silence. But a couple of years afterward, the chance for sweet revenge presented itself when she ran into the Libra woman, who had just quarreled with the Water Bearer. Scorpio spent the entire day informing the troubled Libran of all the flaws and vices she had observed in the man when he had been her lover. The stories were basically true, but she related them cleverly out of context, so they sounded much worse than they actually were. Even though the Aquarian man was unaware of it, the Scorpio stinger had finally stung, like a delayed nuclear reaction. The Libra woman, who once believed her Aquarian to be so kind, so special, was never able to feel quite the same way about him again. This particular Scorpio female is a rather shy, pleasant person, with a great capacity for loyalty; yet Pluto wouldn’t allow her to rest until the score of her old love affair had been settled at zero-to-zero, with no one ahead.
The physical chemistry between them may not be what attracts these two when they first meet. It’s more likely to be some other sort of bond, an odd and unusual mutual interest, perhaps some duty or obligation they share—or the same kind of work. She’ll approve of his humanitarian ideals but may wish he’d spend less time spreading them around with his endless stream of friends and spend more time with her. Gradually, the relationship will grow more emotional in scope, and passion won’t be far behind. He should be aware that Scorpio sexuality is deep and intense but not necessarily promiscuous, as he may have heard. A Scorpion who’s been hurt may turn to casual affairs, because her initial purity has been shocked by the disloyalty of the man she loved faithfully—or thought she loved. But the typical Scorpio female thinks of sex in a near-religious sense, subconsciously cognizant of its potential power and affinity with spiritual truth, in some indefinable way.
She should be aware that the Aquarian attitude toward the mating of man and woman is one of almost detached curiosity, and this is not a reflection on her personal appeal. Even after gradually increasing familiarity has deepened their mutual need and heightened their physical desire, she’ll find that this man is a much more satisfactory lover when she’s proven to him she’s really his friend in every other way. Only when friendship has been clearly established will the Water Bearer give his full attention to the physical expression of love; only with a woman he can completely trust is he comfortable enough to give and receive sexual fulfillment.
Home life, the residence, their careers, their individual families—one or all of these are often the most prominent issues for either tension or harmony between Aquarius and Scorpio. The struggle for a peaceful co-existence will be much easier if their natal Luminaries (Sun and Moon) are in positive aspect, considerably more difficult if these are in negative aspect. There may be times when she’s inclined to allow the memory of past misfortunes and disappointments to guide her present attitude into the bitter waters of resentment. But he will recall little of the past, even the immediate past, and will have no regret over any mistakes that might have occurred during the yesterdays of his life… . because his course is mapped in the direction of tomorrow. One of the few things he’ll remember from long ago, with any clarity, is the poignant memory of the first girl he thought he loved, an idealized image, misty and fragile … certainly nothing his Scorpio woman need fear or resent, considering her almost hypnotic ability to make rivals disappear (if she calls upon it, and comprehends that it’s there, within her, waiting to be used).
There are some Aquarians, influenced by certain Scorpio planet positions themselves, who will bear grudges now and then, but the typical Water Bearer is too fascinated by the challenges he sees straight ahead to waste energy throwing unforgiving looks back over his shoulder. He’ll probably cheerfully allow her plenty of freedom, because he knows its value, being the prized possession it is to him. Since he’s not made of stone, he could exhibit an occasional jealous moment, but never without a solid reason, whereas she may need only a hint to arouse her suspicions. She could be suffering for nothing, because the Aquarian who can rely on his wife to also be his best friend will almost never be vulnerable to experimental flirtations, once he’s committed. However, if he’s repeatedly unjustly accused regarding what are merely platonic friendships, he’s not above pretending to be having an affair he’s not really having at all, just to show her it’s not nice to question his word of honor more than once—one of his Uranian lightning bolts of unexpected response, which is strangely similar to her Pluto sting of revenge.
Within the Scorpio woman is an immeasurable depth of suppressed desire and emotion; within the Aquarian man is an inexhaustible supply of irrepressible excitement and inventive ideas. Yet, as different as they are, they both possess self-confidence and a strong will, which is why they just might decide to hang around together for keeps … for where there’s enough will, the heart’s wisdom can always find a way.
Scorpio Man and Aquarius Woman Zodiac Compatibility
A strange smile was playing about his face, and Wendy saw it and shuddered.
As intuitive as she is (and she’s superbly intuitive), it shouldn’t take an Aquarian woman long to catch on to the coded meanings of this man’s smiles. His features being under Pluto’s iron control, every fleeting expression permitted to pass across his face has a definite purpose. There’s never so much as an idle, uncalculated raising of an eyebrow. Every wink, blink and nod is planned for a precise reason. Scorpio almost never frowns. Replacing the frown most people resort to when they’re displeased is the Scorpion’s blank stare. That is, his features stare blankly at you, if you know what I mean, without giving a hint of what’s on his mind. His eyes contain the secret, but they gaze at you with such hypnotic intensity when his emotions are aroused that, even if they do give you a hint of what’s going on within, you’re thrown into a trancelike state that causes you to immediately forget what you thought you almost knew.
His smiles are the most complicated code of all, the most difficult to translate for the amateur (slightly easier for the Aquarian woman). There’s that heart-tugging grin, containing all the innocent delight of childhood, the one he used to grin when he was a little boy, before he mastered the impassive trick … seen so rarely, she’s never sure if she really saw it or only dreamed it. (It’s real. However rare and fleeting, it’s real. She didn’t dream it.) Then there’s his quick, broad smile (you have to look fast, or you’ll miss it) of pleasure, happiness and approval, so seldom bestowed, it’s all the more a blessing when it appears … . like fasting for many days, and at last being treated to the ecstatic taste of just one delicious raisin, or sip of grape juice, which is tantamount to banquet. And there are his laughs, but the ones that last a while are so soft and modulated, you can barely hear them—and the ones that are loud and merry whiz by in such a few microseconds that the memory finds it hard to retain them, although the haunting, persistent effect lingers on, like that of the subliminal messages sometimes flashed on the screen at a movie theatre which make you go out in the lobby to buy popcorn, even though the naked eye and ear saw or heard nothing—and sometimes, just as potentially dangerous.
Last, but indubitably not least, there is his… . well, sinister is a harsh adjective, and we should apply it only to the unevolved Grey Lizard type of Scorpio male … so I’ll say, instead, his warning smile, the one that says, when you’ve broken its code: Look out, little lady. You are very near the precipice of pressing me too far, and that isn’t a wise thing to do, for I may have to teach you a lesson, which I’d rather not do, but will if I have no choice.
I feel compelled to interrupt myself here and ask the Aquarian woman reading this to turn to the fifth paragraph in the Libra Man-Aquarius Woman segment of the Libra-Aquarius chapter of this book and ask herself what she imagines a Scorpio male might do under the circumstances therein described. It’s an excellent meditation in caution for her. I won’t go so far as to say it might save her life (though under extreme circumstances it might), but it will save her her romance, love affair or marriage involving an Eagle. So . . read it and think. What if a Scorpio man, rather than a Libra man, were the victim of a Uranus caper of this kind? A truly frightening idea, right?
Interestingly, in the eyes department the Aquarian woman sometimes succeeds in confusing even the Eagle, which is a fairly impressive accomplishment. She won’t stare at him as he does at her, with a penetrating gaze burning into his very soul. Her trick is different. Aquarian eyes can suddenly, without warning, cloud over with a kind of haze. Like a veil. Or several layers of veils. He can wave his hands in front of her, and she won’t blink. He can say, The building’s on fire! (as a test), and her dreamy look won’t change, as though she hadn’t heard him. The reason is logical. She didn’t hear him, literally. When this woman gets that faraway look, not even a Scorpio can follow her to the place reflected in her eyes. She’s somewhere high above the Milky Way, beyond all rainbows … perhaps floating on Spica, Arcturus or Uranus, but definitely not on this Earth, not in this world. It will frustrate him, and good enough for him. It’s about time he learned what it feels like to be frustrated in a game of peek-a-boo.
After the Eagle carefully studies the Aquarian female, he’ll decide that he admires her independence, her individualism and refusal to conform. These are qualities that match his own. Of course, she displays them more publicly than he’s accustomed to doing, with a shameful lack of subtlety and discretion. Still, he secretly respects her for her determination to do her own thing and be her own person, her way of telling the world to go ride its tricycle and let her hopscotch in peace. Even if she’s one of the shyer, quieter Aquarians, with a gentle, feminine manner, and a voice like molasses, whispery-soft, you will not push the lady born under this Fixed Sun Sign into doing anything she does not privately really wish to do—nor will you change her behavior one whiffle by warning her that people are talking. She’ll merely shrug daintily and say, Let them talk. They don’t own me. I belong to myself. And so she does.
It’s easy to see why her attitude strongly appeals to the Eagle, who likewise belongs to himself. On the surface, he may adapt to what people expect of a normal Earthling in a roomful of people, but when he’s on his own, in the woods, in his home—or anywhere else—he will do exactly as he pleases, just as he always thinks exactly what he pleases.
Because theirs is a 4-10 Sun Sign Pattern vibration, there may also be other causes for an initial interest between a Scorpio man and an Aquarius woman. Matters related to his or her career, their families—their work—or something strange, unusual, out of the ordinary, like a mutual fascination with astral travel, frogs, elephants or King Tut.
A love affair or a marriage between these two is never going to be anything less than highly instructive, enlightening and interesting. Harmonious it may not be, at least not in the beginning, but harmony can always be attained with the application of astrological wisdom, and the conflicts between them are usually the kind that cause both the feelings and the intellect to stretch and grow.
Aquarius is ahead of Scorpio on the karmic wheel of life; therefore he has lessons in living to learn from her, although he’ll never confess it in a billion years. Nevertheless, he’s wise enough and perceptive enough to sense this, and will silently imitate her more than he admits, even to himself. Her more casual approach to problems, her ability to forgive and forget, her airy dismissal of misery and bitterness before they’ve had a chance to carve themselves into her memory bank, the Aquarian detachment that keeps her inner emotions pliable, are all traits Scorpio could profitably acquire.
With all her endearing mannerisms of absentminded genius and her Alice in Wonderland innocent curiosity, this woman has a t-e-m-p-e-r and, at times, it can be as devastating as a tornado. When he’s first exposed to it, the Scorpio man may draw back in surprise. (A Scorpio—draw back? Yes.) Not that temper itself shocks him. Hers may be like a tornado, but his own resembles a volcano on those rare occasions when it’s activated. But it takes so little to trigger her scenes (which occur as infrequently as his), whereas he always has substantial cause to lose his cool, and then only after a long period of controlling his boiling inner fury. In this respect, she might beneficially imitate him. All Aquarians could use a shade more control. If she wants to keep his respect, she’ll have to put the lid on the tornado episodes and learn to imitate his poise, especially in public.
The sexual dimension of their relationship can be either a constant contest of conflicting desires, or a mellow message of love between them. Much depends on the emotional harmony indicated by the Sun-Moon aspect in their birth charts. If his Sun is in negative aspect to her Moon, or vice versa, her airy response to lovemaking will only skim the surface of his deeper hunger for fulfillment—and his concentrated approach to sexual expression will cause her to feel tense, at a time when she should feel relaxed and happy. If their Luminaries are in positive aspect, however, their lovemaking can be memorable for the renewal of tenderness exchanged between them.
One important difference in their attitudes is that Scorpio tends to be intensely emotionally involved in the physical act of loving, while Aquarius never seems to quite lose the Air Sign’s sense of emotional non-involvement. It’s as though part of her is actively and enthusiastically engaged in the physical demonstration of her feelings, while another part of her remains detached and objective. Also, the Aquarian mind is inclined to change levels of awareness more quickly after total togetherness, whereas the Scorpion mind requires a more gradual floating back to Earth from the heights of passion. Obviously, then, it’s her responsibility to make a conscious effort to retain the unique kind of spiritual intimacy that follows physical union … to match the time period of his need for nearness, not to suddenly leave, as if she were catching a plane for Alaska, leaving him behind, waving goodbye. Symbolically speaking, of course. There’s always the Pluto revenge compulsion to consider. A Scorpio is quite capable of getting even for that kind of romantic desertion by literally catching a plane for Alaska some morning after he’s been sexually ignored often enough—or, even worse, a slow boat to China. The Aquarian woman who loves him may have to learn the hard way that a little extra compassion and comprehension of her Scorpion’s ultra-sensitive emotions and touchy feelings are better than being left alone to commune with herself. How is she ever going to locate him in China? Admittedly, Aquarians are born detectives, but even Sherlock Holmes himself couldn’t locate a Scorpio who wants to hide in a pagoda.
The Scorpio man and Aquarian woman who love each other will place his career (and hers) first on their list of goals. Second, always, with these two, will come the security of a home. Third will be the issue of his family and hers. After all these matters, their more personal desires, hopes, dreams and wishes will be given consideration. This is the general pattern followed by all 4-10 Sun Sign couples, whatever their birthdays or Sun Signs, when their association causes the blend of these 4-10 career-family vibrations.
An Aquarian woman is always ready with a change of pace, a change of mind or a change of conversation. Scorpio doesn’t shift so easily from one gear to another, but he’s equipped by Pluto with enough patience and forbearance to successfully tune in to her frequency rate of change, when he makes the effort. (Scorps can do anything when they make a Pluto effort.)
The Scorpio man is full of contradictions, mystery and unexpected moods. The feminine Water Bearer is very much like this herself, except for the mystery. The Uranus influence helps her to pick up his vibrations intuitively and almost instantly. And so, they are not so far apart as it may appear at first. The thing they most have to watch is the Fixity they share as Fixed Signs. It’s difficult for either of them to apologize. Both tend to show their regret through actions, not words. Scorpio believes, with the poet, that little said is soonest mended. Nevertheless, when dealing with his Aquarian lady, he would be wise to remember Ben Jonson’s warning that silence in a woman is like speech in a man.
When this woman grows silent, it’s time to wonder in which direction those Uranian wheels are spinning, for he can be sure she’s up to something unexpected. Like changing her name, painting the house purple, adopting a child, enrolling in night school, maybe suggesting they catch a plane for Alaska or a slow boat to China—together. Why Alaska? Who knows, with Aquarius? It could be she wants to make a wish on the Aurora Borealis, or bask in the Midnight Sun. Why China? She’s always wanted to see the pagoda he retreated to when he left her that time they quarreled … then enigmatically returned, because he hadn’t yet pieced together the jigsaw puzzle of her.
