Leo and Scorpio

Proud and insolent youth, said Hook, prepare to meet thy doom.

Dark and sinister man, Peter answered, have at thee!

Let’s begin on a positive note. One thing Leo and Scorpio share is an honest respect for one another. As mentioned before all Fire Signs (and Leos are no exception to the rule), instinctively comprehend that their bright enthusiasms can be drowned in Scorpio’s watery depths—just as all Water Signs, like Scorpio, intuitively realize that if Leo’s fires are allowed to blaze uncontrolled, they can come dangerously close to dehydrating their sensitivity, causing them to nearly disappear—if not entirely. A Scorpio will crawl away in the dark of night, rather than face final dehydration from a Leo mate, relative, or friend. Scorps are self-protective. Very.

Both Sun Signs are Fixed in nature, and have a secret desire to dominate. Well, at least with Scorpio it’s a secret desire; with the Lion, it’s more or less obvious—unless the latter is a Leo who is submerging the natural Leonine ego, a very unhealthy thing to do. To casual observers of this pair it appears that Leo must eventually win control, the Lion or Lioness being so transparent about his or her goal as ruler of the relationship. But not all casual observers are astrologers. If they were, they’d take care not to underestimate Scorpio’s subtle, long-range strategies, the power gained by keeping motives hidden, the effectiveness of a surprise attack when it’s least expected. Careful calculation is advised before predicting the outcome of an association between these two astrological creatures—in the office, the family circle, or the marital scene.

The Scorpion is sensitive, and so will sense instinctively when Leo’s pride is injured, then be enormously comforting and protective … when an outsider has done the hurting. When the wounds have been inflicted by the Scorpio himself (or herself), however, Leo may feel that Attila the Hun would have more compassion. It’s not anyone’s fault but yours, Leo. Over and over again I’ve warned you that Scorpios mean business when they’re miffed. They’ll sting in retaliation. When Scorpio is mad, Scorpio is mad, and there’s no use trying to coax them out of it. Going away until it blows over won’t help either. The anger will still be there when you return. Since Scorpions are not the overlooking kind, the only safe way to handle one and not get stung is to be careful not to push the Pluto-ruled person too far or too often.

Unfortunately, Leo will seldom accept such advice. Treading carefully around Scorpions is for the cowardly. The proud and dauntless Leonine character scorns such caution, so Leo often pulls out all the stops, and the devil-take-the-hindmost. A friendly suggestion: Watch it. The devil just may do that.

Strangely, the relationship between children and adults, whether related or not, in this particular 4-10 Pattern, is frequently very close, even touching. There is something hauntingly paternal or maternal in the attitude of the older Leo or Scorpio to the younger Scorpio or Leo. It’s a joy to behold, delightful to experience. Perhaps this is because the younger Leo has not yet had time to acquire such fierce pride, therefore will not resent an older Scorpion’s intense protective gestures. And it may be that the younger Eagles have not yet developed the full Pluto retaliatory nature, therefore can accept the Leo’s dramatics more good-naturedly. The older these two become, however, the more effort they’ll have to exert to achieve harmony. I know a young Scorpio boy who formed a deep attachment for an older Leo man. The latter was like a big brother to the youngster, whose own Aquarian big brother was, at the time, weathering the storms of adolescence, and therefore behaving with detachment toward him.

When a Scorpio finds something or someone worthy of respect, no one can be more respectful than a young Eagle, and Mike, the Scorpio boy, found much to respect in his older Leo companion. Bob, the Lion, patiently and lovingly taught the boy how to catch a lizard with a string, then let it go free near a fish pond, how to fly a kite and make it soar among the clouds like.. well … like an eagle! He told him Hobbit stories, complete with sound effects, answered his questions, with great seriousness, about how the handle of a car door works, and even sternly advised the boy’s mother that the youngster was not a slave just because he was younger in years than she, that he deserved to be treated with respect, and to be asked—not be rudely ordered—to run errands for her. All this slowly but surely imbedded itself into the Pluto subconscious. Then came the day when they were standing together on a rock at the edge of the ocean in Pismo Beach, California, and a huge wave appeared suddenly, completely engulfing them. If the Lion had not held tightly to the boy, he would have been washed away out to sea, and the child couldn’t swim. That sealed the relationship. The boy firmly believed his Leo friend had saved his life, and he was ready to worship him forever after. (Leos can stand a lot of that!)

Later, the Lion, through no fault of his own, had to go away. His absence dragged on for nearly seven years. The Scorpio boy was leaving his childhood behind with each passing year—yet, not once, in all that time, did he waver in his intense loyalty to the far-away Lion. Although there had been no communication of any kind between them, he would listen to no negative word against his friend. He knew he had good reason to go away, just as he knew he would return. And one day.. he did. Scorpio is seldom wrong in judging character.

I also know a small Scorpio girl in Falls Village, Connecticut, who feels the same way about her real-life, blood-brother Lion, and showers him with absolute adoration. The Big Cat loves it, of course, and the devotion is mutual. It’s the same thing when Leo is the youngster, Scorpio the older one. Both Sun Signs instinctively protect the weaker. Between the Sun-ruled and the Pluto ruled, it’s an all or nothing-at-all relationship. Neither the Eagle nor the Lion or Lioness can handle caring casually. They will be passionately attached—or ignore one another. No middle ground for these two, whatever the association.

In the less fortunate Leo-Scorpio combinations, the initial attraction may last more briefly than both believed it would when it began. It won’t take long for disenchantment to set in if one of them has an incompatible Moon Sign, for Scorpio’s attitude of I’m always right, even though unspoken, will first frustrate, then annoy Leo. Superiority needn’t be verbalized by Scorp. A long, hard stare of cool confidence can project the message quite clearly. The Leonine resentment then may seem unjust, since Leo is an equally recognized expert in the conviction of his or her privilege of infallibility—of being always right, while everyone else is always wrong. (Yet, somehow, the Lion or Lioness is never quite as certain of this as a Scorpion.) The smug I’m superior attitudes of these two are so similar, you’d think they’d be more tolerant of one another’s egos, but it doesn’t always work that way. In a human relationship, there’s room for only one person to be always right the way Leo and Scorpio are always right (they think).

The Fixity of both signs doesn’t help matters. Fixity is another word for stubbornness, a little milder in meaning perhaps, nevertheless making it difficult to swerve or sway either Leo or Scorpio from a set position or opinion. Try it, when you have lots of time to spare. You’ll soon understand what astrology means by a Fixed Sign. (Leo, Scorpio, Taurus, and Aquarius are the Fixed Signs.)

Scorpio may remain quiet during a Leonine monologue, but don’t be fooled. No Scorp is going to accept opinions from a Leo without being totally convinced of their validity. The Scorpio will either object outright with a blunt refusal to accept the Leonine views being arrogantly pressed upon him—or her—or find a way to avoid the whole issue. Sneaky. That’s the word for it. At least that’s the word Leo would choose to describe the way Scorpio slides, crawls, and slithers away from obeying his or her Majesty’s commands. There’s nothing sneaky about Leo; even Scorpio will admit that. What these Kings and Queens desire and demand is made clear to all the peasants. No, Leos are not sneaky—just a little bossy. And spoiled. And accustomed to getting their own way since they were cubs. Yet they’re so warm and sunny, so generous and friendly, despite those commanding airs, that even the normally perceptive Scorpion may not immediately sense the danger of dehydration—or worse. Likewise, Scorps are so gifted with the subtle talent of appearing to give in without actually giving an inch that it may be a while until Leo recognizes the situation as another Waterloo.

When a Leo is injured, he or she will either pout or roar. The latter behavior will disturb Scorpio’s sensitive psyche the first few times, causing an apparent retreat—but if either the pouting or roaring is repeated with unnecessary frequency, eventually all Leo will get for such dramatics from the Scorp is that frustrating, long, hard, cold Pluto stare. Being stared down by a Scorpion is about as pleasant as making mudpies in a sandbox full of black widow spiders. It does absolutely nothing for the Leonine sense of self-importance.

If these two play down the personal element, and keep their mutual endeavors centered on abstract goals outside themselves, they can operate as a smooth unit, a formidable threat to outsiders who try to conquer them by smothering Leo’s fire or making waves in Scorpio’s water.

But if Leo’s impulsive ideals and generous spirit are watered down so often that those splendid Leonine dreams are dampened to the point of crumbling, the Scorpio will be banished from the Kingdom—or the Leo will leave himself (or herself) and move to another castle where one can expect to receive the proper respect for royalty. It would also behoove Leo to curb that bossy attitude with Scorpio. From no other Sun Sign will the Lion or Lioness receive such depth of loyalty and devotion. It must be earned. Still, it’s well worth swallowing a few lumps of pride now and then to be worshiped with the kind of intensity only Pluto can give.

Leo Woman and Scorpio Man

Which of these adventures shall we choose? The best way will be to toss for it.

I have tossed, and the lagoon has won. This almost makes one wish that the gulch or the cake or Tink’s leaf had won. Of course, I could do it again, and make it best out of three; however, perhaps fairest to stick to the lagoon.

The deep lagoon of a Scorpio man’s inner nature will inevitably win out and dampen the flaming defense of the Lioness in any serious conflict between them. He’s a Water Sign, and water is the strongest of all the elements. Fire consumes, and what is left to conquer after the opposition has been consumed? But water just drips away, drop after drop, penetrating the surface of even rock and granite, in the precise pattern water chooses. Even a boulder tossed into a stream won’t change the stream’s course. But toss a blazing torch into the ocean, and how long do the flames last?

Of course, the size of the body of water can change the outcome. A huge bonfire will cause only a few drops of water to sizzle, then disappear. But most Leo women and Scorpio men are more evenly matched, and in the more common associations between the Leo and Scorpio whose individual vibes are balanced, the lagoon (water) will conquer. Scorpio possesses a great deal more soul experience than Leo, being ahead of Leo on the horoscopic wheel. It’s handy to know this when you start out. It can become complex though, since one never knows for sure which of the two Sun Signs is ahead of the other on the number of trips around the wheel. However, you can be sure that even a Lioness on her millionth time around the circle has been placed, by her own Higher Self, within the Sun Sign vibration of Leo in a certain incarnation because the lessons of the seven signs ahead have not all been completely mastered yet. Since Scorpio is astrally ahead—even if only experiencing his thousandth trip around, comparatively—in this special relationship, within this particular existence, he is karmically destined to teach her a few things she needs to learn, whether she likes it or not.. and she won’t be wild about it, I can assure you. The same thing is true when the sexes are reversed to the Leo man and Scorpio woman. Leo can’t fight this predestined, starry Kismet and win, so it’s wiser to relax and accept it.

The outward manner of the Leo woman may be warm, generous, gregarious, and friendly. But that doesn’t mean she’ll be overjoyed to discover herself being dissected like a butterfly beneath the incredibly deep, steady gaze of a Scorpion who’s trying to probe the very depths of her mind, heart, and soul, let alone her body. If his eyes become too intimate too soon, even though she’s magnetically drawn to him, she’ll not hesitate to turn his Water Element into ice with her frozen, royal dignity. The Lioness dislikes familiarity from strangers, so wait until you know her better before you stare her into a Pluto trance. One doesn’t stare at a Queen. It can get you banished from the ball with a contemptuous, regal wave of her hand.

Their first clash may be over money. She likes to spend it, even though she can be surprisingly practical about how and where she distributes it, going overboard only infrequently in binges of glamourous extravagance. He can be touchingly generous too, on occasion, but he’ll frown on her attempts to control his spending. At the same time, he’ll have no qualms about controlling her spending, a contradiction of character which is more than a mite selfish, and unfortunately shared by both of them, by turns. It’s an unusual Lioness who will submit to that sort of arrangement without periodic roars of feminine outrage. A mutual budget almost always spells trouble for these two. She’ll spend freely, yet become petulant or openly hostile when he complains that all the cash is used up for the month. A Scorpio man will take this situation for an extremely limited length of time. Then he’ll retreat into threatening silences and stony stares, hardly an ideal atmosphere in which love can be expected to flourish.

Harmony can be established by a decision to have separate bank accounts, with no questions asked and no accounting demanded regarding who spent how much for what, even if her checking account is possible only through the gift of a portion of his earnings. That will seldom be necessary however, since the typical Leo woman will already have saved some money when she first meets her Eagle and falls in love with him. Ninety-five percent of all Lionesses are career women. She may enjoy drenching herself in domesticity for a while after she’s contentedly mated with a man she adores, but it won’t be long until she feels a strong urge to spread her sunbeams, and begins to long for an interest outside the home to increase her sense of self-importance.

The only time a Leo woman is truly happy running a household is when the household is the White House, a towering castle on a windswept hill, or the vast empire of, say, a Greek shipping magnate.. as observe Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, née Bouvier. Jackie hardly needed to go to work for financial security when she became, very sadly, a widow for the second time. But her astrologically royal blood demanded that she prove to the world, after there was no longer a household over which to preside, that she had a genuine worth as a human being, so off she loped to an office, a desk, and a literary career.

The sexual adjustment between a Lioness and an Eagle could be delicate. His intense and somewhat mystical lovemaking will delight the romantic in her at first …… but as time goes on, she’ll need more spoken declarations of affection, richer, more imaginative and tangible demonstrations of his devotion. He’ll find her strange blend of aloofness and fire irresistibly exciting, and will seldom tire of the eternal challenge of conquest she represents. But if he’s rebuffed too often by her icy dignity, he’ll lose that animal magnetism that made her swoon in the beginning; perhaps even punish her by falling asleep while she’s lying there beside him feeling all empty and alone. Using the denial of sexual fulfillment as a method of revenge is one of Scorpio’s most unkind retaliatory defenses when he’s been injured, even when he uses this strategy unconsciously.

If this man and this woman really try, despite the obstacle of their squared 4-10 Sun Sign Pattern, they can create a beautiful scene together. They have a lot going against them from the beginning, yet they do have their mutual free will going for them. Imagine a calm, clear lake in the moonlight, a thousand bright flames adrift on its surface shooting sparks of brilliant color toward the velvet midnight sky. How do the flames remain on the water without being extinguished? By being ignited on top of floating logs which support them. To the Leo Fire Sign and Scorpio Water Sign, those floating logs can symbolize a mutual goal.

Once the Eagle and his Lioness have found that mutual goal (or career), one that fits both their dreams, and pursue it together, they can perform the alchemy magic of combining passion and power to turn misery into miracles. His passion—her power. Or her passion—his power. It doesn’t matter, for they each possess both.

Their heartaches will come when he sails off to some exciting adventure without her, leaving her sitting there at home—or conversely, when she goes dancing off impulsively in the August Sun, leaving him to celebrate Thanksgiving all by himself during a cold November. A deep insecurity lies buried beneath the Leo woman’s bright, brave personality. She can become as bitter and restless as a caged Lioness in a zoo if her mate denies her the right to be an individual. As for him, the Scorpion’s intense need for her brightness to light up his life can cause some violent spells of his Pluto jealousy and possessiveness. He’ll have to realize that this woman simply must now and then bask in the spotlight of admiration—or almost literally pine away. If her adoring friends are sometimes men, it doesn’t have to mean she’s being promiscuous, just exercising her royal right to be worshiped. The possessive Eagle cannot bear to see other men paying court to his woman, but this is what he can expect if he leaves her alone. The Lioness will never be content to sit by the fire, crocheting socks for her mate, polishing his passions at night, and sprinkling powder on his power complex each morning before he swims off into the beckoning world out there in the mist. And so, unless they do things together, the path of these two lovers can sometimes be rocky. But.. do you know what you do with rocks? Remove them. Just lift them, and toss them over the bank.

If she can learn to appreciate the emotional security and exceptional devotion he offers her—and he can learn to truly value her warm, generous, and sunny spirit, they can transmute the astrological square of tension and conflict between their natal Suns into the square’s equally powerful energy, to create an amazingly strong tie that binds. For love, like a ship, is always safer and stronger after it’s been proven seaworthy.

Despite her flirtatious ways as a young girl, the Lioness will be loyal and faithful to her mate, once she’s been tamed—if the hand of the tamer is gentle, not too strict. And despite his reputation, among the astrologically uninformed, for an obsession with sex, the Scorpio man’s inner and actual compulsion is to explore its mysteries, then raise it to the purity of a spiritual experience. If this man and woman would gaze deeply into each other’s eyes, directly into their own true natures, they would see there’s no need for jealousy or competition between them.

The attempt to cement a relationship with children often fails with other couples. But with Leo and Scorpio, Destiny has mysteriously decreed that if need and desire are intense enough—a child shall lead the way to Oneness.

Leo Man and Scorpio Woman

Ought I? Wendy said, all shining. Of course it’s frightfully fascinating, but you see I am only a little girl. I have no real experience.

That doesn’t matter, said Peter, as if he were the only person present who knew all about it, though he was really the one who knew least.

She’s lying, as Scorpios sometimes do, in a desperate attempt to hide their innermost feelings. No real experience? She has the experience of eons of incarnations in Pluto wisdom. Ignore her deliberate put-down of herself.

Oddly enough, it’s his ego. No. Ego is perhaps not the right word for it. It is his self-confidence, so easily and casually displayed, which first causes the Scorpio female to become enchanted by the charismatic Lion. She possesses self-confidence too (actually, bushels more than he does), but she’s unable to project her confidence with such confidence. I know that sounds confusing, but read it again and you’ll see the sense of it. And so, the Scorpio female finds much to admire in Leo, even to respect. Unlike herself, he has discovered a way to let the world know how sure of himself he is inside—even when he’s not so sure. Her confidence in her own inner knowing, of which she is always sure, often seems to her as though it would remain locked up within herself forever. Perhaps he has the key … and if he does … what joyous freedom he might grant her!

He is attracted to her for nearly identical reasons. She’s usually unaware of the cool poise and inner wisdom she projects to others with just a deep, deep look. Most recipients of her gaze simply cringe and look away immediately, to avoid—they’re not quite sure just what—they’re only positive they want to avoid it. Not so the brave, stalwart Lion. Her gaze fascinates him. Sometimes he feels he’s drowning in the cool, placid waters of her eyes, sometimes he feels he’s learning mystical secrets by an unspoken transfer of knowledge. At other times he feels dangerously close to being swept into the storm of the churning, lashing waves behind her Scorpio stare, and to a Leo that’s not spooky or Halloween-scary—it’s downright exciting.

She envies him his ability to spread such warmth. Being a Water Sign herself, no matter how much she may desire otherwise, the warmth she feels translates itself into some degree of detached coolness, even with those she loves the most. But a Leo male is ruled by the fiery Sun, even when he’s angry or pouting. It’s impossible to be near a Lion and not feel the heat from the Sun’s rays penetrating your entire being. Like basking in front of a cozy hearth, when he’s happy—like warming yourself before glowing coals, when he’s feeling nothing much at all—or like the thrill of watching a huge forest fire, when he’s aroused. If only she could spend her own, far more deeply felt emotions with such lavish unconcern. She keeps trying unsuccessfully to display her feelings more openly—then here comes this dashing man who can demonstrate his pride and prejudices with so little effort, so gracefully. He even walks gracefully, like a Big Cat stalking through the jungle, an unmistakably regal dignity to his stride. No wonder she falls passionately in love with him. No wonder she adores him. And no wonder the Leo male is magnetized by the Scorpio woman. There’s nothing on this Earth he enjoys more than being adored. Unless it’s being worshiped. When the snake stealthily enters their fresh, green Eden, they’re both surprised, hurt, and disappointed. What could have happened? So many things are still right…. what could possibly have gone wrong?

It’s not difficult to identify the problems. One time, in Cripple Creek, Colorado, I was visiting two good friends who own the Gasthof Restaurant there—Carroll (he’s a Leo) and his wife, Barbara (she’s a Scorp, short for Scorpio). Just for fun, but with a method to my madness, I suggested they play an astrological telegram game with me. (I made notes.) Can you sum up, I asked the Scorp, all the things you most object to in Carroll, all the things that annoy you the most and cause the most tension in your relationship with him—in just one word?

She thought momentarily, then flashed her Leo mate one of those cold, hard stares, as she announced clearly and emphatically: Arrogance. (The two of them had been having some minor difficulties for the past few days, in the manner of all couples, from time to time.) Not relishing the risk of being in the middle of a Fire-Water conflict, I tried not to look closely at the Lion’s expression while I asked him, as cheerfully as I could, the same question. How would you sum up in only one word your objections to Barbara’s habits and character, Carroll?

Without an instant’s hesitation he frowned at her and growled angrily, Silence.

Perfect! I exclaimed. Just perfect! They turned to me in puzzlement. Then I hastened to explain, I mean, your one-word answers were a perfect example of the disharmony between Leo and Scorpio.. that is, between all Leos and all Scorpios, I hastily amended. Then I asked Carroll, the Lion, my second question. Now, can you sum up for me the quality in Barbara that attracts you the most, what it is in her you most admire and love—in one word?

His trembling, thinly controlled anger suddenly melted, as ice melts on a sunny day at high noon, and he glanced at her with genuine tenderness, while he said softly—something rather wonderful.

I guess that one word would be … devotion. He paused, then continued with an impulsive rush of feeling. When I was in the hospital last month, in such pain from my broken leg, lying there in a cast from my toes to my hip, and groggy from sedatives, every time I opened my eyes, she was there. Just sitting there, in case there was anything I needed. It’s a long trip from Cripple Creek to the St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs, and she has so much to do with the restaurant and the children [they have four boys] and the house and all, I don’t know how she found the time and energy to be there. But she was always there. She always is there … when I need her. Then he blushed, aware that his romantic declaration had an audience, and finished, a little haltingly. I guess she’s.. well, it’s like I said … I can’t think of any other word but devotion.

As he was speaking, tears filled the Scorpio woman’s eyes, and she swallowed hard. The tenseness throbbing between them before had miraculously disappeared, and they gazed at one another for a brief, but meaningful moment, as the Lion’s eyes, too, sparkled with tears. Reluctant to interrupt this rare moment of singing communication between them, I nevertheless continued the game, and asked Barbara, And you? What one word would you choose to describe all the positive qualities in Carroll that make you love him?

She was silent. For a minute. Then another minute passed. After several minutes had gone by, she was still silent. Finally, embarrassed and obviously uncomfortable with her inability to express whatever she was thinking, she murmured apologetically to both of us, I’m sorry. I mean, there are things.. but I.. I just can’t think of them.. I just don’t know. Then another several minutes of silence which I’m certain seemed to last an eternity to the Lion. However, being a Leo, and therefore nearly never suffering from a loss of words, he filled the empty air with a typical Leonine response. Come on, Barbara, don’t be bashful. Why don’t you just admit the word is ‘lovable’? Still silence from Scorpio. That’s the word you’re groping for, isn’t it? Lovable? Or maybe the word ‘perfect’ describes me better?

We laughed, nervously. That is, the Leo and I laughed. His Scorpio wife made a feeble attempt to grin, then excused herself and went into the kitchen to bring us more coffee. Now, even the Lion was silent. And I felt it best to remain silent too. The discomfort in the room was growing into a giant. Then, unexpectedly, out of the kitchen popped Barbara, a tea towel in her hand and a smile on her face.

I just thought of the word, she announced, clearly relieved. It’s ‘dependability.’ He’s so.. trustworthy. I can always count on him to keep his word when he possibly can. He never lets me or anyone else down. Once he’s given a promise, I know he’ll try hard to keep it. He’s really the most trustworthy person I’ve ever met. I guess … well, I guess dependable is the one word I would choose.

Such a waterfall of words from a woman who had, minutes before, appeared to be stricken dumb. And such an expression of happiness on her face from the peace of being, at last, able to express her true feelings.

As Leos will do when they’re pleased, but a little shy, the Lion grinned ear to ear, and remarked playfully, Don’t you want to add the words ‘lovable’ and ‘perfect’ to the word ‘dependable’? He was rolling in catnip, floating in visible ecstasy. His mate had finally fed him a King-size portion of the food for which he was so often starved—a sincere compliment. For the next half hour there was so much affection billowing over around them, I excused myself and left early, leaving them in privacy with their new understanding of one another, once again convinced of the miracles astrology can create, when it’s used as it was meant to be.

It’s true that the silences of a Scorpio woman can frustrate and infuriate a Leo man. He’s more gregarious about his pleasures and displeasures; he needs to be verbal concerning his happiness and his sorrows. It never occurs to a Leo male that his Pluto-ruled woman is driven into her silences by his constant dominance and airs of superiority—nor does it occur to Leo that he possesses the same trait he objects to in his Scorpio mate. With him, it’s called pouting.

The Scorpio woman is deeply hurt and angered by the Lion’s insufferable arrogance, yet she seldom realizes that all it takes to halt it is the effort it would cost her to give him the gift of a sincere compliment (Scorpios can give no other kind) in the middle of one of his supercilious lectures to her.. and he’ll purr with delight, forgetting altogether what he was roaring about. All it takes is a little introspection. Granted, Scorpio is more capable of introspection than Leo, but Leo is more forgiving than Scorpio, so it balances out rather nicely.. or it could, if they would allow it.

The sexual relationship between a Lion and a female Scorpion can be somewhat intermittent. It can blow hot and cold, by turns. She finds his warm strength erotic, in a cozy, affectionate way. He finds her secret, silent intensity of passion a sensuous challenge to his impulsive romantic nature. With some mutual consideration, like a little more verbal expression from her, and a little more sensitive consideration from him, the yearning they felt when they first met and loved will remain. But too many silences from her, too much arrogance from him, and the initial powerful chemistry between them may trickle into a mild, bored affection, with true mating occurring less and less frequently …… all the way to frigidity in her and impotence in him. The Scorpio woman already knows what every Leo man needs to learn—that fulfilling sex does not initiate in the body’s fleeting urges. It begins in the mind and heart, then gradually grows into the kind of physical desire which results in emotional peace and contentment.

One thing that often causes sexual coldness between these two is her sometimes intense resentment of his admiring entourage of females, who often follow the Leo male around like worshiping, love-sick puppies.. and his refusal to banish them with an icy rebuff. He actually enjoys it, can you imagine that? Yes. I can imagine it. The Lion needs to roll in the catnip of adoration now and then, but it will seldom lead to unfaithfulness—never, in fact, if his mate fights this threat with the most powerful weapon of all.. the awesome force of LOVE. The Leo man who receives enough adoration and excitement at home, in his own lair, will never wander far from the jungle pride he shares with his mate. That’s how you separate the women from the girls. She should laugh it off. That’s what he does, inwardly, if the truth were known. Leo’s deepest instinct is loyalty. It takes a lot of unreasonable jealousy to change his basic nature. Logical deduction may lead the Scorpio woman to believe that if her Lion’s feminine entourage admire and desire him, he must equally admire or desire them. But logical deduction is sometimes the most misleading of all the siblings of lies. Out of hurt and outrage, justified or not, the Scorpio woman is very likely to initiate an act of infidelity herself. She should consider such a drastic reaction to the frustration of their problems very carefully, for Leo will not be able to forgive physical disloyalty, whatever he may have done or not done to deserve it.

Yes, I know it’s selfish, but that’s the way Leos are. With extremely rare exceptions, should a Lion discover his mate has betrayed him with another man, it will be the end. And Leo should know this: It takes a lot of what he may not recognize in himself as arrogance, a lot of insensitivity to her deepest needs, to drive this woman into the arms of someone else. If it should ever happen, he should ask himself what it was she so intensely needed that he perhaps unconsciously denied her. It may have been a child … a career … or just a little extra compassion and gentle understanding of her feelings … a little more tenderness at times.

When the gulf of pride and pouting grows so wide both are reluctant to risk leaping over it, it’s nearly always she who must make the first move. However wistfully he may yearn for reconciliation, a Lion finds it painful to humble himself with an apology. He fears such admission of regret might cause him to lose control of his home, his woman—and worse, his self-image of superiority and command. And so, struggling to preserve his identity as ruler of the relationship, he’ll often shift the blame to her undeserving shoulders, desperately hoping she’ll accept it, so he can majestically forgive her—and everything can be sunny and warm between them again. Sadly, many Leo men know no other path to a renewal of harmony. Initiating the making up will be easier for his Scorpio woman if she’ll remember the lyrics to the song sung to Anna in The King and I by the Monarch’s Number One Wife, when she was trying to make Anna see him as he really was.

He will not always say—what you would have him say, But now and then he’ll say.. something wonderful!

The thoughtless things he’ll do—will hurt and worry you, Then all at once he’ll do … something wonderful!

He has a thousand dreams that won’t come true, You know that he believes in them, and that’s enough for you.

You’ll always go along—defend him when he’s wrong, And tell him when he’s strong—he is WONDERFUL!

He’ll always need your love, and so he’ll get your love. A man who needs your love.. can be.. wonderful.

There will always be those sunlit moments when he’ll say or do something wonderful to make up for his occasional thoughtlessness and arrogance. As for you, Leo, Your Highness, you might try memorizing a few lines from another song:

She may be weary—women do get weary
Wearing the same shabby dress;
When she is weary, try a little tenderness.

She may be waiting, just anticipating
Things she may never possess;
