Gemini and Scorpio

All pirates are superstitious; and Cookson cried, They do say the surest sign a ship’s accurst is when there’s one on board more than can be accounted for.

The naturally superstitious Scorpio has every right to conjure an extra person around when he (or she) is dealing with a Gemini, born under the sign of the Twins. Only one person is visible, of course, but this man’s or woman’s twin (or triplet or quadruplet) eternally hides in the ethers, ready to pop out at the most disconcerting times.

Most people don’t know they’re dealing with a multiple when they associate with a Gemini, but Scorpio suspects the truth of the matter right away. Scorpio suspects everything right away. It’s difficult, if not impossible, to fool a Scorpion for long. The suspicious nature of these people prods them to penetrate mysteries like Sherlock Holmes, but they seldom discuss their conclusions with any Dr. Watsons. What Scorpio knows, he keeps to himself (or herself, as the case may be). As I’ve said before, Scorpio, above all, seeks Power. Knowledge is Power, so why give any of it away? Which brings us to a rather obvious tendency of—not all—but most Geminis: talking. Sometimes, they even go so far as to gossip. At the very best, they usually don’t count to ten before speaking, a habit which can upset the more taciturn and reserved Scorpios, even though Gemini words are often lovely bubbles of light and joy.

Not that Scorpios can’t be loquacious too, at times. They can be—the rare ones. But most Scorps would rather be seen than heard, and preferably not seen if they can possibly help it. I’ve mentioned elsewhere that many Pluto-ruled men and women and children have this thing about wearing dark glasses to help keep their incognito status undefiled. Even those unusual Scorpions who chatter have a knack for talking about everything except what is really important. They seldom discuss anything truly personal—about themselves, that is. Anything personal about someone else they will gladly discuss, unless they’ve promised to keep it a secret. Then their lips are closed as strictly as with the seal of the confessional. It’s a rare Scorpio who breaks a promise. Keeping a promise is a point of honor with these people. And so the verbal dexterity of Gemini, not to mention the Geminian childlike attitudes of innocent fun and frolic, can annoy Scorpio, unless he or she has the natal Moon or Ascendent in an Air or Fire Sign. Pluto-ruled men and women not only look askance at a loose tongue, they don’t trust childlike innocence either. Scorpio is a lot of things, but innocence is not the word an astrologer would choose to describe this Sun Sign.

Scorpios have what can only be called a dominating disposition, ranging all the way from brooding sulkiness to cool withdrawal (sometimes arrogance) when things don’t go their way. At other times, Scorpio can be gentle, sensitive, compassionate and fanatically loyal—but never truly warm. Gemini is likewise often accused of lack of warmth. (Water and Air Signs both seem cold and detached to those born in the Fire or Earth elements.) As for loyalty, Gemini, as we all know by now, is not famous for loyalty—if the true meaning of the word is unswerving devotion to one person, one idea or one ideal for a lifetime. Gemini does like to swerve! These people have difficulty remaining interested in one topic for a full twenty-four-hour day without swerving and veering into a different direction—let alone for an entire Life-span on the planet Earth. Without periodic variety and changing scenery, however, the average Mercury Bird would suffocate from sheer boredom.

Like all 6-8 Sun Sign Patterns, unless they are born into the same family circle as relatives, or involved in a business association, Gemini and Scorpio might never meet without someone else introducing them. Lacking a Sun-Moon harmony between their mutual horoscopes, these two normally don’t have enough in common to feel any pulsing vibrations across a crowded room and usually need third-party intervention to become acquainted. However, once they are accidently tossed together by some innocent bystander, who has no idea what may result from this mixing of Air and Water, their 6-8 Pattern will invariably cause the relationship, whether friendly, business or emotional, to consist of much service and devotion on one side and an inexplicable magnetism on the other. Incongruously (in an astrological sense), the service and devotion usually flows from Scorpio to Gemini—the magnetic attraction from Gemini to Scorpio. One might say that Gemini represents one mystery Scorpio cannot completely penetrate, and there is precious little Scorpio cannot penetrate. It’s indisputably frustrating to the Scorpion, but frustration is sometimes synonymous with fascination when taken in small doses, infrequently. Taken in large closes daily, it can remove a lot of sting from Scorpio and cause some dulling of the childlike innocence of Gemini, ruffling the feathered wings of the impatient Mercury Birds.

Clever, intellectual Gemini is a walking, talking Question Mark (with emphasis on the talking), constantly curious and occasionally spurious. Scorpio is a firm Period, at the end of Knowing, the ultimate punctuation in the power of concentration. Geminis normally have varying degrees of trouble concentrating, their attention span sometimes being as brief as the time it takes a butterfly to hover over one blossom or a bird to remain perched on one branch.

In addition to being intensely domineering at times, Scorpio is also intensely proud and ambitious, in a disguised, quiet and unobtrusive way. As a matter of fact, Scorpio is privately intense about everything. Intensely ruthless, intensely loyal, intensely compassionate, intensely cool, intensely secretive, intensely mysterious. These people do nothing in half measures, never mind how harmless and sweet they seem on the surface. If they are your friends, they are your friends all the way up to heaven and all the way down to hell. If they are your enemies, the same geographical route of extremities and polarities is followed.

If Scorpio does nothing halfway, then Gemini can be said to do everything halfway (or one to three-quarters). Geminis never devote all—every shred of themselves—to any single person, idea or project. Only small fragments, chips and pieces, occasional crumbs. You see why they might never notice each other in a crowd?

Although these two Sun Signs are different in motivation, character and personality, the differences can be intriguing. Scorpio will never learn all there is to know about Gemini, and cares deeply about the failure. Gemini will never totally plumb the awesome depth of Scorpio, and couldn’t care less. Not really. To Gemini, all the fun is over when the riddle is solved. It’s the changing dialogue and the fun of guessing the plot that excites Mercury people, not the denouement of the final scene.

Like Virgo, Gemini has a speculative and analytical nature, producing a marked tendency to read between the lines, therefore to often imagine that people mean more than they are saying. Scorpio is no slouch in this department either, although the basic cause is different. With Gemini, it stems from quick intellect, Mercurial curiosity and analytical urges—with Scorpio, from plain old-fashioned fear and suspicion.

Ask Gemini to sit on a particular couch, and he or she will probe your psychological and emotional purposes for choosing that couch, whereas Scorpio will be positive there’s a bomb wired beneath it, rigged by computer to explode. There’s a slight difference in their attitudes, but the end result is much the same. It’s impossible to keep a secret from either Sun Sign, or to retain one’s personal privacy around them. When it is Gemini and Scorpio who are suspecting, analyzing and probing each other, rather than one of the remaining ten Sun Signs, it’s like watching a couple of pretzels caught in a Chinese chain-lock puzzle. They each create their own individual auras of mystery, and they both like to solve mysteries. But Gemini’s mysterious aura is carefree and variable, consisting of unpredictable switches of pastel colors, light and shadow, and rapid changes of thought—while Scorpio’s auric ethers of burgundy-shaded mystery are much more complex, with an emphasis on the shadows, lying in far deeper and unfathomable wells, sometimes with a touch of the sinister when influenced by the negative side of Pluto.

Slowness in others is a constant source of irritation to the bright, alert, impatient Twins, the most typical of whom are periodically high-strung and nervous. Scorpios are also periodically high-strung and nervous, but heaven forbid that anyone should ever catch them showing it! The more apprehensive Scorpio is feeling within, the more sure, confident and secure he (or she) appears to be outwardly. Since every inwardly experienced feeling and emotion flits across Gemini’s features, lighting up his (or her) expressive, fast darting eyes, you should have no trouble deciding where to place your bets to win in a poker game. When the poker game is a relationship of any kind with each other, the stakes can be desperately high for Scorpio, yet it’s still only a game to Gemini, whatever the size of the kitty or the pot. If one game is lost, figures the Mercury Bird, there’s always another, just down the road. Scorpio does not take losing so lightly. In fact, the Eagles take losing very, very heavily. Losing, to Scorp, is a humiliating experience, degrading, perhaps even cause for inner panic. (Scorp never displays outer panic.) Gemini tosses Life’s dice with a fine, detached and careless abandon—Scorpio, with cool shrewdness, and then only after carefully calculating the odds. Life’s dice, that is. In an actual dice game, Gemini calculates rather coolly and precisely himself—or herself. The fast Mercury mind figures the house percentages in a flash.

Let’s see if you can straighten out these pretzels of intrigue. They just walked into the room. One of them has glided in noiselessly, almost unnoticed, and stands quietly, while gazing steadily into your eyes. You ask a question, this one remains silent, not answering immediately. The other, has skipped, hopped, or flown into the room, perhaps strumming a guitar, tossing a tennis racquet in the air, and dangling the end of a sentence. You ask a question, and this one will jet a convoluted answer in your direction, then quickly head for the bowl of cracked walnuts on the table. Which one is which? Think you know?

All right, the first one described is a Gemini. The second is a Scorpio. Are you confused, mystified? Then you haven’t been paying close enough attention to the hints in all the various Gemini and Scorpio chapters of this book. The Gemini was tricking you into believing he-she is cool and poised, using one of Mercury’s multiple identities, as smoothly as a seasoned actor slips from one part into another. The Scorpio was wearing one of Pluto’s Halloween masks, feigning a casual unconcern and light flippancy to hide his or her quivering intensity. Now, do you understand the problem?

They didn’t notice each other at all. Go on—walk over and introduce them, but the responsibility is yours, not mine. If their Moon Signs are compatible, they can create haunting, misty dreams together. After all, isn’t a fine mist the result of a blending of air and water, in Nature? But if their Sun and Moon Signs are square or opposed, the result will be fog—and in a heavy fog, Mercury Birds can’t fly, while Scorpions make little progress along the seashore.

Gemini Woman and Scorpio Man

It was two against one that angered him . .

We should start right out by admitting there are some relationships composed of this Air and Water mixture which succeed—some Twins and Eagles who easily manage to find a lasting love, built together on a firm foundation of mutual respect. Not a lot, but there are some.

If the Sun-Moon aspects between them are harmonious, they can find happiness as effortlessly as any other man and woman descended from Adam and Eve, except that they’ll have to keep a sharper eye on that sneaky snake than most lovers. Without such an astrological boost, however (if their Luminaries and other planets are in adverse aspect between their birth charts), these particular Air and Water signs might find it easier and safer to remain friends, avoiding the wild winds of passion and the deeper waters of forever vows. Scoring high on a compatibility achievement level is not forbidden to them, but they both must be willing to make a constant effort.

To begin with, forever is a word that frightens the Gemini female as much as the word temporary frightens the Scorpio male. It isn’t that she is unable to remain in love, and true to one man, because many Gemini women do just that, but such faithfulness and permanency must creep up on her subtly, gradually, one tiptoe at a time, until she’s totally involved in the relationship without realizing it. Using the word forever too soon, or predicting the outcome of the romance when she’d rather guess, spoils the excitement for her. Conversely, it isn’t that the Scorpio man can’t cope with temporary arrangements as well as the next male creature, but the use of the word itself creates instant doubt and suspicion in his mind, spoiling his sense of power and dominance over the affair.

He’ll be initially captivated by her undeniable charm, the champagne bubbles of her voice, her bright mind, her deft conversation and her light touch in every situation. Naturally. He’s only a man, after all, regardless of his masked and caped Batman image—and just as susceptible to the attractions of Eve’s apple as any other astrological sign. Then, after a while, he’ll begin to notice that some of her delightful stories have changed ever-so-slightly the second time around. (Geminis always add a little here, take away a little there, for more sparkle—doesn’t everyone?) She may be late for two or three of their dates in a row, or perhaps she’ll interrupt his discussion of his very serious plans for their future with the agitated announcement that she left the car keys in the ignition with the engine running. Not only that, but she double-parked and blithely expects him to pay the ticket.

It is at this point, or at some similar stage of discovery, that the Scorpio man will rub some of the stardust from his eyes, take a long and penetrating look at this woman who nearly stole his heart, and cautiously decide to deliberate a bit longer the possibility of his promising to love, honor and cherish her for the rest of his days before a man of God. (Scorpio is secretly very religious, you know.) Once he has given his word, it pains his soul to break it, so he may slow up the courting until he’s sure she has no more surprises to spring on him, like one or two marriages and separations or divorces she forgot to remember to tell him about.

It may be that she will hardly note the slight change in his attitude. She’s too busy wondering how long she can stand his stifling scrutiny of her personal life, prying into her secrets (nothing bad or necessarily shocking, but just things she’d like to keep private)—and his jealousy. Can’t a person smile back brightly at the clerk in the bookstore or stop to discuss the grooming problems of Old English sheepdogs with a friendly stranger on the street without being accused of promiscuity? What about the way he stares at every female he meets, and stares … … and stares … … and stares?

She has only herself to blame for her dilemma. Being a Gemini, and having cut her teeth on the dictionary, she should be well read enough to know that a Scorpio male, with his deep, rich, magnetic voice, and steady, wise gaze, possesses the fascination of a Serpent. Formidable as his outward appearance of strength and stillness may be, beneath it is a silent mating call few females can resist.

One of the first things she’ll discover about him is his incredible will power. It is simply not to be believed. This man can do anything he sets his mind on doing, literally anything. If he decides to fast for thirty days, he’ll live on water throughout the entire period without so much as a whimper of hunger or complaint. If he chooses to become president—of his class, his company or his country—he will attain his goal and become president. If he wants to seduce a woman into being his for keeps, she has lost the battle before it begins. He will make her his.

All this can be spooky, Halloween-scary to the bright-eyed Gemini woman, who asks nothing of life but change and excitement, gaiety—and something to challenge the intellect. When she feels those Pluto vibes reaching out toward her, you would think she would run, as she would flee from a panting gorilla in the jungle, who means business. You would think so. I would not. Because I am aware of the astrological quirk that allows a Scorpio man, at odd moments, to more resemble an innocent, velvet-eyed deer than a gorilla—so sweet, gentle and sensitive, so apparently in need of comfort and loyal support, a woman would have to have a heart as hard as bricks to hurt him in the slightest way, like running away from him. The Gemini woman’s heart is not as hard as bricks. It may be set at a cooler temperature than the heart of an Aries, Leo or Sagittarius woman with more fiery emotions, but it is soft in all the right spots, and the appeal of an intelligent man, whose burning eyes can see through her soul, hits one of those spots with deadly aim. There is something so satiny smooth about his manner, she forgets that steely gaze he’s capable of projecting when he’s displaying his tremendous powers of reserve and icy resolve, but he’ll give her plenty of opportunity to remember it later.

So much for why and how these two usually fall in love. More is needed about how they can manage to remain in love. Since Scorpio is a Fixed Sign, he has an abundance of self-control. He’ll need all of it when she tries his patience with her chameleon charisma, her spells of moodiness, absentmindedness and duality of purpose. Since Gemini is a Mutable Sign, she possesses an abundance of adaptability to help her cope with fluctuating scenes and emotions, which she will surely need to call on eventually with this man. She’ll need all her ability to stay free and easy and cool when he becomes stubborn or violently emotional over some imagined slight just after he has been an angel of understanding. (It’s always difficult to decide if Scorpio is Angel or Devil; they seem to be so at home in both heaven and hell, a foot in each place, but actually existing somewhere in-between.)

She’ll have to memorize the lesson that this man wants to know where she is and what she’s doing most of the time—if not all of the time. He’ll also expect her to remain in one place, more or less (mostly more). He’ll frown at her nostalgic tears over her old boyfriends, her casual attitude toward money when something excites her fancy, her whimsical excursions into one hobby after another, from singing-to-dancing-to-painting-to-home-decorating-to-archeology-to-medicine, and spinning around with a travel urge each time the seasons change in Nature—and in her restless Mercury-ruled spirit.

He’ll have to be satisfied with fragments of devotion, scattered kisses and temper tantrums, naivete nearly beyond belief (or nearly beyond a Scorpio’s belief) along with cool disdain mixed in equal parts with enthusiastic affection, a wandering mind and changeable notions—and not expect her to display anything near the self-confidence and emotional control he has possessed since he was born.

She is surely a challenge to him and to his masculinity, since most Gemini females are full of feminine wile and guile, smelling like cologne, usually dainty and light hearted, witty, talented and clever. But Gemini is a masculine sign, and as for Mercury, the planetary ruler of the Twins changes sex as unpredictably as the wind changes its course. So there will be times when she will offend his sense of manhood, other times when she flatters it. Her intellect will never fail to fascinate him, but he may be disappointed when he discovers that her intelligence is satisfied to skim the surface of most matters, to analyze then discard them, feeling no need to probe the depths, as he does in every subject from sin to sex, from religion to reincarnation, politics to polygamy.

All she needs to know about the Mormons is the name Brigham Young and something about Salt Lake City, Utah. All she needs to know about geology is the difference between turquoise and quartz; that the gold rush took place in Colorado, near Pikes Peak, and may occur again, if America goes back on the gold standard.

He needs to know much more—like Brigham Young’s secret reason for wanting to bed down and board with, possess and father children with more than one woman. (Brigham was a Sun Sign Gemini, so let’s hope Scorp doesn’t probe too deeply. It might really disturb his tranquility regarding his relationship with her if he learned that.) As for gold, Scorpio needs more than surface knowledge. He wants to keep up with all the fluctuating gold prices, the details of assaying, the intricacies of sinking a mine shaft—and so on.

When it comes to the sexual side of love, it must always be remembered that, although Scorpio is a strongly sexed sign, the ability to maintain continence, chastity and self-control (as in the religious life of monks, priests, etc.) is equally marked in these males. Assuming he has fallen in love with a Gemini woman, he is presumably not one of the Scorpions who have chosen the rigid discipline of abstinence. He will not, however, look upon sex as a game, as a frivolous pastime or a promiscuous sport. Sex is the Secret of Life itself to him. A woman who understands and fulfills her Scorpio man’s deeper desires need not worry about his faithfulness (unless his Sun Sign is greatly afflicted by malefic planets at birth). Normally, a Scorpio male who receives genuine and intense response from his mate will not look elsewhere.

An Eagle is very curious about sex in his youth, but he probably will have satisfied most of his curiosity by the time he marries. His attitude toward the physical mating of love is deeply passionate, overwhelmingly sensual, yet with a certain strain of purity woven through it, amounting to a religious fervor with a few Scorpios.

The trouble is that sex is not the Secret of Life itself to the Gemini woman. Her attitude is experimental, and the deeper secrets of sexual union are secondary in importance. Even those Gemini females whose Twins are promiscuous seldom wish to penetrate the mysteries of sex with any real feeling or intensity. It’s just a pleasant pastime, that’s all. Yet, her very detachment toward physical passion could cause the Scorpio man to find the Gemini woman absorbing sexually, a continual challenge to him to prove to her that sex and God are linked, that all creation is nothing without the blending of Man and Woman. You already know how Scorpio hates to lose (refuses to lose is a better way to state it). In the area of their intimate sexual union, he simply must win. With a harmonious Sun-Moon relationship between their birth charts, he’ll keep trying over and over again, repeatedly, to explain this greatest of all mysteries to his Gemini woman. Lacking such an aspect between their Luminaries—or if other mutual planets in their horoscopes are in conflicting positions, he may do the unthinkable (for a Scorpio)—and become disloyal, rationalizing his breaking of their vows with the reason that he cannot bear the halfway measure of love he’s receiving. And that will be truth. An Eagle cannot.

It might hearten him to know that, barring disharmony between their natal charts and Luminaries, his chances of achieving physical ecstasy with this lady and successfully teaching her the mysteries of love’s total blending are rather good. For Scorpio represents the eighth astrological house of sex (among other matters) to Gemini. Therefore, she really does find him magnetic and compelling, never mind her pretended detachment. He’ll just have to keep practicing.

This man’s Pluto sense of integrity is difficult for the average or typical Gemini female to comprehend, unless she has the Moon or Ascendent in Scorpio herself. If so, these two can be wonderfully, unexpectedly happy, to the mystification of their relatives and friends, who see only the surface differences between them. Otherwise, the vibrations of the 6-8 Sun Sign Pattern may cause both of them to experience periods of deep unhappiness from time to time. She might feel he’s trying to drown her in an ocean of suspicion, or be both frightened and puzzled over his inexplicable, ice-cold retreats within himself.

He may feel she’s trying to tear him from his own soul, as a tornado uproots trees. Even so, if Gemini chooses, she’s intelligent enough to figure a way to make the relationship work—and Scorpio is intuitive enough to know how to seal each break so it’s stronger afterwards than ever before. If they each desire to do so. Desire is the key word. To intensely desire to rediscover and retain the brightness they first knew means that they love. And love can cement anything, even hearts that have broken into a thousand pieces.

Gemini Man and Scorpio Woman

I daresay it will hurt a little, she warned him.

Oh, I shan’t cry, said Peter, who was already of opinion that he had never cried in his life. And he clenched his teeth and did not cry; and soon his shadow was behaving properly, though still a little creased.

A Gemini man possesses the unusual and uncommonly appealing quality of seeming to remain eternally youthful … not rare, I suppose, for one who is reborn each day, but rare enough to attract the normally self-contained and cautious Scorpio female into wondering what makes him scintillate with such multiple colors of the mood spectrum. Now, when a Scorpio female starts to wonder, there’s no stopping her until she’s satisfied her wondering with complete knowing. That means coming closer to him—and closer … … and closer … … until she suddenly looks around herself with alarm.

Unexpectedly, she is standing between two people, one to either side of her, as different as day from night. Which one is the man she was pursuing closer and closer? Both. They are both the same man. A Gemini male is victim of the Twin syndrome, you know. Maybe she did know. Maybe she didn’t. But whichever or whatever, it will upset and topple her natural, cool, poised I can handle anything at all auric projection. Can she handle this? Can she cope with this introverted-extroverted soul, this full-of-gladness, filled-with-sadness little boy, this coldly cruel yet sensitive and tender man? He’s a maze of non-sequiturs, contradictions, denials and affirmations.

Never mind. She can cope. She is a Scorpio, and she can handle it, solve it, beat it, win it, conquer it—the seemingly impossible situation. Can she? I’m not sure. But she is sure. The Gemini man doesn’t really care if she does or not. The very thought that this lovely, intense yet poised and womanly creature of depth and mystery is willing to try is excitement enough to elate him into whistling a brand-new tune and making a dazzling wish on the first star he sees.

To guess the outcome is far more thrilling to him than to know the outcome. For a Gemini to know removes all reason for existing. With her, not to know removes all reason for existing. Ah, yes! To paraphrase poor tortured Hamlet, to know or not to know—that is the question. That is surely and positively the question between these two at all times, the question which must be answered, finally, before there is any hope of lasting mutual happiness.

You’ll have to understand, or rather, she’ll have to understand that a Gemini male is constitutionally and congenitally incapable of comprehending love as an eternal, searing passion in quite the total way she does. There may be Gemini men who love one woman totally forever (in fact, I once knew one myself), but these Twins are extremely few and far between, and even they are sometimes haunted by misty dreams of another face, weaving in and out of the steady love relationship—or there may be a break-up, before he returns to his true Soul-Mate, in such cases … or at the very least, he may privately wonder what experiences he might have missed by being monogamous. The more typical Gemini man enjoys the titillation of choosing which of several women to prefer and is shocked when one of his harmless, pretty larks turns out to be an eagle, especially if she turns out to be a Scorpio Eagle. The eagle is a monogamous creature in Nature. So are most human Scorpio Eagles, by nature. (Not all, just most. When we’re dealing with Sun Signs, instead of with the entire horoscope, we have to consider the averages and over-all percentages.)

Venus is the planet of love, and Geminis are ruled by the planet Mercury, whose influence over Venus in the nativity, causes the emotions to be dispersed and frivolous. Pluto is the ruler of Scorpio, and this planet’s effect on Venus is to make her influence deeply serious, powerful—but secret and hidden. You will notice the obvious differences in this treatment of Venus, Goddess of Love. Venus notices it, too, and becomes baffled when these two vibratory forces of Mercury and Pluto mix their rays. The Gemini man and Scorpio woman may not notice it right away, so busy are they being fascinated by each other’s strangeness. One thing he will definitely find strange about her is the strongly imbedded Pluto form of jealousy. Scorpio jealousy is sometimes a passion even more consuming than the love which gave birth to it.

Gemini finds all forms of jealousy difficult to fathom. He is, of course, duly susceptible to the normal, small tugs of fear regarding the danger of losing his woman to another, like any average male—but the kind of overwhelming sea storms thundered by a Scorpio woman who feels threatened are incomprehensible to him. When this woman has been hurt, or even suspicions that she might be hurt, her Scorpio stinger can strike a deadly blow to the ego of the Gemini man who is innocent of the accusations made against him—or guilty as charged, either way. Most Pluto-ruled women find revenge sweet indeed. Therefore, if she is deceived, or suspects she’s been, the retaliation will be swift and cruel, even vindictive, if her Sun was afflicted by major planets at her birth.

Knowing this, the Gemini man, whose nature cannot help being slightly flighty and fickle, should realize just what he could be facing should he make the mistake of attempting a light romance with such a woman, to whom there is no such thing as a light romance, only an all-consuming and everlasting passion. Other than an Aries female, no one can be as jealous as a Scorpion. But Aries has not the same compulsion to get even with the lover or husband as does Scorpio. Taurus and Cancer jealous? No, the word with these Sun Signs is possessive. They cry a lot and hurt inside deeply. But they cause violent scenes infrequently. Possessive and jealous are not quite the same. Any man who has ever loved a Scorpio woman will be well aware of the difference.

This is a 6-8 Sun Sign Pattern, Scorpio being the sixth house to Gemini and Gemini being the eighth house to Scorpio, so there will be a markedly noticeable amount of service and unselfish devotion to duty in the relationship, plus a strong sexual magnetism (felt only when the two people involved are lovers or mates. When the relationship involves relatives, friends, or business associates, different eighth house matters, other than sex, will be emphasized between them). The service will usually be offered from Scorpio to Gemini. The sexual vibration is the attraction Gemini has for Scorpio. Yet, oddly, the very last quality the typical Gemini has to offer is sexuality. Sex isn’t an all-consuming interest to this man, unless it’s accompanied by poetry, experimentation, far-out ideals, or intricate games of mental chess and checkers. He may exude tons of handsomeness, charm, masculinity, intelligence and romance, but he does not ordinarily exude excessive sexuality (to anyone but a Scorpio). Therefore, it seems strange that she should find him so physically irresistible—and often, he finds her the same way (although that’s not so hard to comprehend).

Perhaps it’s his elusive air of boyishness, the myriad tricks of his mirror images, changing from one mood into another before her eyes, that make her so determined to penetrate into the core of his heart and soul through their sexual union. He seems to hold a secret, ever so lightly—yet nonetheless, a secret—and an unsolved secret or a mystery which defies solution beckons to Scorpio as a flame entices a moth. She must know him—really, truly know him—to satisfy her mind and fulfill her heart. Consequently, the physical expression of their love will magnetize her, sometimes for many years, until she finally realizes that no one will ever know all the facets of this man, not even a Scorpion. About the same time, he will realize that he can never play his favorite game of guess who and guess what I am with her all the way. She won’t discover every sliver of his private dreams, but she will unravel enough threads of his soul’s fabric to frighten him into feeling that he is slowly, but surely, being more known than he cares to be. And so their physical blending, although it may begin as a compelling part of their love, could grow from cool to cold, and at last be the undoing of their romance, unless they each are willing to honestly face the things that trouble both of them—to truly communicate. Yet, she should not try to over-analyze their relationship.

He may tend to criticize and analyze her, since she’s so full of silent intrigue, certainly not shallow. Yet, in doing so, he may be floating in deeper waters than he suspects. Scorpio does not take kindly to analysis, and the insistent questioning of the curious Gemini can cause her to retreat in sullen anger—or to lash out with a violent emotional response. Personal privacy is as sacred to her as it is to him, perhaps more so. The two of them should recognize this in one another and not insist upon exploring the things they find puzzling about each other until the resentment between them grows into a high thick wall.

To break down the wall, he’ll try his charm, his old jokes, his most imaginative lovemaking, his multiple romantic techniques. She’ll try her most sensuous mannerisms, her coolest detachment and most soothing gentleness. They’ll both try every trick they have tucked in their sleeves, and that’s quite a few tricks between the two of them (the three of them, counting his Twin). Yet the wall grows even higher and thicker. There must be a way over it. (There is.)

Sometimes, the only thing they don’t try, in attempting to scale the wall that separates them, is to allow a little more space between their hearts so love can breathe free. He’s willing, but she may fear a new and unaccustomed space between herself and her mate as she would fear a dark and unknown abyss stretching ahead. Space is made up of air, essentially, and since he is of the Air Element, he feels more at home when there is plenty of space around himself. But she is of the Water Element and must be surrounded with a flowing stream of togetherness or be unable to breathe herself.

It’s always sad when the Gemini man and the Scorpio woman who once loved find they’ve lost the way to happiness, because he believes in things unseen, all magic and wonder, despite his computerlike mental equipment. So does she. She believes in even stranger and more wondrous unseen worlds than he. But the secretive, inexplicable forces of Pluto silence her, seal her lips and heart, and forbid her to speak of them as openly as he does. She will never be able to express her deepest dreams with as much facility as the glib Gemini. And herein lies the sadness.

If only he would not be so impatient with her intense passions, her emotional depths. If only she could find a way to whisper to his wandering spirit that she, too, longs to solve all the mysteries that lie out there among the stars and comets—that she, too, yearns to breathe free, to race the wind, and search for childhood miracles, half-forgotten … yet also half-remembered. The cool night air is infinitely more refreshing than the musty darkness of the damp caves of worry, where Scorpions are commanded by Pluto to move about when they are troubled.

Too often, this man and woman reach out to each other, not quite touching. They call to one another, but he hears only the music of the spring breeze—and she hears only the sound of the waves lashing the shore. If they would stop long enough to hear one another’s secret cries, they might soar high enough together to see everything from a different perspective, including their relationship.

Their ruling planets can help them, if they listen. After all, Mercury and Pluto, along with Uranus, are the ones who taught Merlin all he knew, and also secretly guided Arian Houdini. Surely they can teach Gemini and Scorpio to mix a White Witch’s brew of happiness. When your astral guardians are a couple of magicians like these, you should be able to detect illusion from reality—or discover that the two are interchangeable. Whichever.
