5TH AND 5TH BIRTHDAYS

People with the same birthdays that are also even numbered such as the 4th and the 4th have a good chance of establishing a harmonious relationship. Governed by a receptive vibration they are cooperative by nature. The opposite holds true for those with odd numbered identical birthdays controlled by active vibrations. The 5th day, in particular is the least promising of compatibility and survival. Indeed, it is most unlikely that two people with this birthday will even consider entering into a relationship if they take the trouble to sit back and give the matter their serious consideration. However, Five personalities are unlikely to do this. Whether expedient or not, they are more inclined to plunge headlong into situations without deliberation. At the same time, they are also experts at extricating themselves just as quickly from situations that are not to their liking. Inevitably, they may leave behind an unhappy aftermath caused by their actions but do not give a second thought to consequences as they find themselves already involved in a new and exciting situation. The experience they have gained and lessons learned are not always used for future guidance.

An exposition of the Five temperament will reveal the extent of the problems that will arise in a Five/Five partnership. Their first obstacle is a tendency to escape from or circumvent their personal obligations and personal adjustments rather than meet them head-on. They are manipulative rather than cooperative in their relationship with people. Their natural bent is to organise the lives of people around them, and when a pair of freedom loving Fives try to organise each other’s lifestyle sparks begin to fly. The planet Mercury influences the 5 vibration resulting in the mercurial nature of the Five personality. Whatever can be said about the Five, the opposite can also truthfully be said. These characters cannot be labelled as a particular type, nor can their behaviour in any given situation be anticipated or taken for granted. The 5 vibration represents the five senses and is the only force that has access to all planes of expression. This accounts for the Fives’ alert and active minds and versatility. They are impulsive people who express themselves as the mood hits them through the physical, emotional, mental and intuitive planes. The destiny of the Five is to experience life in all its phases and this cannot be stopped as there is no known force that can inhibit them. Freedom, curiosity, variety, change, restlessness, nervous energy, progress, physical courage, quick reflexes, adventure, speed and sensuality are some of the Five’ s cardinal qualities. Some other features with them that are clearly negative and harmful to themselves and others associated are tension, lack of direction, system and planning, unreliability and unpredictability, sensationalism, abuse of personal freedom, self-indulgence and general irresponsibility, as well as being accident and litigation prone.

Fives are people who are prepared to try anything once. They may be attracted to everything but cannot be held down by anything. On the home front, this attitude makes them indifferent and disorganised homemakers. It is also responsible for unexpected and sudden changes of direction in employment. The problem in a Five/Five partnership will be the expectation by both partners to go out into public life with the result that their domestic situation will leave much to be desired. Timetables, set routine, system, regularity and discipline will not be standard practices. ‘Take away’ food businesses will receive their continuing patronage as neither of the two will be prepared to take over the kitchen on a regular basis. No doubt, they may occasionally cook themselves and their guests a splendid meal as they are capable of anything when they put their minds to it, but their temperament revolts against being tied down to recurrent duties. In public life as well, Five workers become unsettled and unsatisfactory in subordinate positions which are subject to monotony and many rules and regulations. They perform at their best as free-lance workers enjoying movement and frequent changes of scene. They may change jobs often as they are motivated by opportunities for progress into new schemes and unconventional areas of work. There is a contradiction in the Five temperament in regards to leadership which will interfere with proper distribution of authority and responsibility in this partnership. On the one hand, personal freedom is more important to them than the responsibilities of sole leadership which could tie them down to a series of duties. On the other hand, there is a natural urge, followed up by the ability, to organise, direct and motivate people. As neither will have control over this anomaly in their personality the partnership will be without clear leadership or cooperative measures. They are more likely to compete with one another in decisions that have to be made, and also pass on routine responsibilities.

Fives are extroverted towards people as well as activity, but not necessarily in equal proportion. Their need for activity is somewhat more than their need for interaction with people, although, both may go together for the most part. Fives will not be found holding themselves aloof in company as self-expression, particularly through the medium of speech, comes naturally. They have no fear of strangers or of moving in mixed company. They know that they can summarily dismiss anyone whose company no longer meets with their approval. Their conduct in society could be flamboyant, bohemian and unconventional. The opinions of others do not influence their behaviour. They thrive on drama and can be depended upon to produce the unexpected. When things go stale or too quiet for their liking they become restless until some new drama is created by themselves or someone else. They are the easiest people to get acquainted with and the easiest to lose touch with. Their speedy and involved lifestyle results in a quick turnover of friends and acquaintances. Two such personalities having a relationship will not restrict each other, in social activity. They are more likely to enjoy independent social lives rather than move as a team. On the occasions they do go out together they may soon become separated into the company of others, especially of the opposite sex.

Exceptional versatility as conversationalists and all-round talent in sport ensure their popularity in indoor and outdoor activities. Their fluency of speech and the power it holds over others is often abused by the best of them. With the advantage of all five senses working for them often at the same time, they miss out on nothing that goes on around them. They often make the mistake of judging others by their own standards. As a result, they can be intolerant and critical of people who do not assimilate and disseminate knowledge as quickly as they do. They are also inclined to argue for argument’s sake or critique for the sake of criticism. A verbal duel between a pair of Fives could turn into a right royal battle. Fives who are negatively inclined lose popularity fast on account of their overbearing attitudes. They are incessant talkers who usually have strident voices and a dubious manner about them.

A relaxed state of mind and body is a condition unknown to the Five personality. Whether in a happy frame of mind or in a troubled state, they look for some form of activity to release mental and physical tension. Their leisure time will be consumed in a great variety of ways with a partiality for the outdoors. They gain a great deal of satisfaction indulging in some form of dare-devil activity. A Five who is confined to home for reasons beyond their control will be found constantly re-arranging their houses or interfering in someone else’s business. Neighbours may lose their privacy with a Five in the locality who is deprived of the opportunity to expend nervous energy and satisfy their curiosity in work, sport, travel or some other physical outlet. Most Fives are natural gamblers and much of their leisure time may be spent in games of chance, both indoors and outdoors. For instance, a Five will not be interested in a game of cards unless there is money or some other prize at stake. A Five couple could find much in common outside the business and domestic sides of their relationship. They could make a formidable force when their competitive spirit is combined and mustered against any form of opposition. However, they can also strike out independently and indulge in a purely personal hobby without upsetting each other as they are not dependent on each other, nor are they jealous of each other.

The non-attached and progressive mentality of the Five personality is clearly seen in their method of handling money, which is used only as a means to obtain their pleasures and not as a form of security or power. For the most part, Fives live in the present. The past has been put back and forgotten and no anxieties are felt for the future. Their firm belief that money is meant to be used, and a natural tendency towards self-indulgence, creates free spending habits. Their personal expenses are always high and often stretched beyond their means. They do not hesitate to borrow, as falling into debt does not embarrass them or cause any loss of sleep. Whoever lends money to a Five/Five partnership will need to assure themselves of gilt-edged security. Negative Fives could be here today and gone tomorrow. It will be difficult to imagine a Five/Five partnership having a healthy savings account or a regular flow of income. On the contrary, financial highs and lows will always be part and parcel of their lifestyle. Many of their highs will be the result of ‘luck’ in games of chance as most Fives are natural winners and many of their lows will be due to absence of budgeting.

The opposite sex holds a magnetic attraction to all Fives which is much stronger than that held by other personality types. The Five’s calculating mind and irresistible urge for variety, experiment and adventure are not excluded from their love life. On the contrary, these become irrepressible forces which make fidelity to a single partner an almost impossible task. Other typical qualities such as sensuality, alertness, awareness and curiosity combine to expose them to temptations not experienced by less venturesome people. Fives do not use their roving eyes to merely window shop. They go ahead and make purchases. Five partners may even agree to live together in a loose form of relationship while one or the other has an occasional affair with someone else.

Five persons born in the 1st, 10th, 11th and 12th months are positive personalities who are able to apply a general sense of direction to their lives despite their need for variety and change. A pair of such Fives will be fierce rivals rather than cooperative partners. They will not be prepared to surrender any part of their independence and freedom by means of self-sacrifice or self-adjustment. Fives who are born in other months have a poor sense of direction, purpose and obligation. A partnership between such Fives will not survive for long.

5TH AND 6TH BIRTHDAYS

The consecutive arrangement of the 5th and 6th days may tend to give one the idea that a similarity must exist between such closely positioned numbers. The truth is that there is a world of difference in the nature of the vibrations they symbolise. The 6 is a receptive vibration representing harmony, deliberation, uniformity, peace and selfless love. It is also a purely mental force which endows all Six people with an essentially objective view on life. Emotionalism, melodrama, sensuality, selfishness, aggression and other self-centred and subjective traits do not impair or colour their judgment of things. The 5 vibration, however, stands for qualities that are directly opposite and even antagonistic to those of the 6. Restlessness, speed, diversity, tension and self-indulgence are some 5 qualities that are inconsistent with those of the sober 6. In addition, the 5 is an active force manifesting through the emotional plane, yet it is not fixed solely to this plane. It is a liberated force that also enters freely into the physical, mental and intuitive planes of expression. This produces the versatility, complexity, inconsistency and volatile nature of the Five personality. Several sides of their nature often clamour for expression at the same time. The 6 however, is fixed on the mental plane. This accounts for the high degree of consistency in the behaviour of the Six personality.

Directed by logical thinking, Six people live well organised and well planned lives, free of haste, impulse and misinterpretation. A shifting, speedy, alert, aware and highly involved lifestyle governed by subjective and manipulative thought processes is natural to the Five. For the most part they see things only in relation to how it affects them, while Sixes take into consideration not only their own welfare, but also the wellbeing of all those around them. A Six will not be found planning or carrying out any design that would benefit them at the expense or discomfort of another. This cannot be said conclusively of the Five personality. Fives and Sixes are extroverted people, but their mode of extroversion differs in accordance with their active/receptive dispositions. Fives are extroverted towards movement, change and experience in almost every phase of human activity. Interaction with people is accepted as a stimulating accompaniment of their eventful lifestyle. Sixes are extroverted towards people and any rigorous physical activity is accepted, often reluctantly, as part and parcel of social life. They are, for the most part, mentally active but inclined to be physically lazy. The basic difference between Fives and Sixes is the life of sensation followed by the Five and the life of thought experienced by the Six.

Fives are highly competitive, fearless and optimistic people who think and act as free-born individuals. They usually prefer to contrive of ways of manoeuvring people and situations to conform to their style of living rather than conform to group standards. In a domestic situation they will have much to say about how things should be done, but seldom follow up their bright ideas for any length of time. They are unwilling to subordinate or forego personal wants to family obligations. The practical and routine aspects of domestic life will be left to the home loving Six partner. The Six is a non-competitive individual who may be periodically distressed by bouts of melancholy and loss of self-esteem, which in turn, may inhibit an optimistic outlook on life. They work happily in cooperation with others and display a willingness to assume more than a fair share of responsibility. These are characteristics which are amplified in domestic affairs and overstrained in a relationship with a Five. While a Five will always be ready to pass on domestic duties to a partner, a Six will not expect their partner to do anything they could not do themselves. Sixes concentrate on organising their own lives while Fives would rather spend time organising the lives of others, and they do so in such a way that they have everyone working for them. Domestic life has a widely differing meaning to the restful Six and the restless Five. The greater part of the Six’s world is centred in and around the home while most of the Five’s time is consumed by interests outside home. The Six’s first and foremost priority is to provide their home with physical comforts, cultural attractions and beautification. At the same time they bring human warmth, togetherness and love into family life. Within this atmosphere the Six expands in self-esteem and self-confidence. They are natural parents, guardians, protectors, teachers and counsellors. Their homes are used as centres for self-development.

There is hardly an alternative in a Five/Six partnership except an arrangement whereby the Five enters public life while the Six looks after the home. An already difficult situation will be aggravated, if not made chaotic, if the Six partner is the breadwinner and domestic responsibilities are thrust upon the Five. Fives are no doubt capable of doing anything they set their minds to, but what they are not capable of doing are tasks that demand consistent routine, monotony, timetables and self-discipline. In a situation where both partners are out in the workforce there is no doubt that the Six will be made to take up the dual task of bringing in an income and caring for the home and family as well. Fives can be depended upon to help in all emergencies and situations that call for quick reflexes, instant decisions, elements of risk and danger, or opposition from a third party. Hard physical jobs can also be done by them whenever they can be cornered. Sixes are not manual workers.

Arranging a mutually acceptable social program will always be a problem. Fives are not only people of the outdoors but they are also people who like to entertain and be entertained anywhere other than in their own homes. Sixes, on the other hand, are generally indoor or home oriented people who are in their element acting as hosts or hostesses. Fives just cannot be bothered to attend to the responsibilities required of a successful host or hostess. These come naturally to the Six personality whose good taste and sense of occasion add to their reputation as hospitable people. As guests, Fives are usually the last to depart from any social occasion while Sixes are the first to do so. The Five has the knack of creating entertainment and experiencing pleasure in all places and circumstances, and therefore feels at home almost anywhere, and while doing so they lose their sense of time. Sixes are short-term visitors who become restless and agitated after a while. The pull towards the peace and comfort of their home becomes too strong to resist. In social interaction Fives usually move as individuals, maintaining freedom of thought and action. Sixes, without surrendering their individuality in any form, prefer to identify themselves with group activity. Fives feel uncomfortable if they are made to feel similar to others but Sixes derive strength and comfort from a feeling of togetherness and group identity. Both Fives and Sixes are easy to get to know but due to their changing lifestyle, the continued friendship of the Five cannot be taken for granted. They are not hemmed in by any special preferences and are able to handle almost any type of character, but Sixes are comfortable only in the company of calm, refined and artistic types. The Six’s mission is to promote goodwill and their physical presence tends to allay anxiety in others and release tensions. As personal experience takes precedence over all things for Fives they do not hesitate to make waves or rock the boat if prevented from doing what they want. Their physical presence raises the vibratory rate of any company to enthusiastic and excitable levels to the extent that people who are of a placid nature such as the Six are unable to cope with them for long.

Both partners are great talkers. Oral frustration does not hinder free expression of their thoughts, but there are a few obstacles that could prevent easy communication on mutual problems. Both are argumentative, but Fives introduce emotion and expressive body language into their speech, whereas the Six uses only critical and analytical faculties of the mind. Fives could make a scene but Sixes discuss matters coolly and rationally. Fives are usually bad listeners who insist on doing all the talking. They express their thoughts with tremendous speed and enthusiasm and do not hesitate to cut into conversation or interrupt someone’s flow of speech. Sixes are patient and considerate listeners who await their turn to speak and then do so in a slow and deliberate fashion. The nature of the Five is to tell, order or forbid people to act while that of the Six is to advise, teach and counsel. Being the least inhibited of all personality types, Fives can be so outspoken to the extent that they are psychologically callous. Matters that a Six will treat conservatively and discretely, and discuss in private will be discussed quite openly by a Five. Despite their totally rational minds Sixes are subject to moods of despondency and anxiety, and become inaccessible when these moods hit them. Often a trivial matter could trigger off a depressed or pessimistic state of mind. Fives, who do not know the meaning of depression, rarely have the patience or understanding to cope with the low periods of their Six partner.

Further personality differences become evident in the manner these individuals choose to spend their spare time. The focal point of the Six’s interests will naturally be the home, with an extension into community affairs once domestic duties have all been attended to. The culinary arts, interior decoration, literature and music receive their special attention. Sixes, who are negatively inclined, develop an obsession for housekeeping which could lead to an intolerable situation with a domestically indifferent Five. Various forms of competitive and non-competitive sport will take up much of the Five’s spare time and what is left may be used up in entertainment. These individuals cannot do without outside interests in order to remain happy. Seldom will Fives and Sixes be found doing something together. Fives love travel while Sixes are home oriented. Fives love excitement and novelty while Sixes yearn for mental pleasures and the enjoyment of beauty in all things taken at a calm and relaxed pace.

The nature of the Five is to act at once, as soon as an idea occurs. Sixes take time to think things over. Inevitably these habits are reflected in the manner in which they handle money. Anyone entering into a partnership with a Five must expect to put up with certain irresponsible spending habits. These impatient people do not take the trouble to budget, save or go after bargains in order to stretch their income as far as possible. Money could be spent as fast as it comes in, and often faster. Gambling is an attraction few Fives can resist. Partners who regard money as an essential form of security have a difficult time with a Five, and a Six personality will be one such type. Fluctuating fortunes are inevitable if the Five partner has control over income and expenditure. Worry and conflict can be avoided when the Six takes a firm grip on family expenditure. However, this will not be easy, as a Five will not readily surrender the delights of spending money freely. The Six is a shrewd money manager and investor but is inclined to worry too much over their financial position with the result that they disturb their peace of mind, a state which they cherish so much.

Venus, the planet of love, influences the 6 vibration. This love is infused into the Six personality and is a comprehensive love which embraces home, family, their community and all the cultural achievements of mankind. They are easily carried away by beauty and harmony in all things abstract and concrete. Their sex life is mentally directed for the most part and as such, sensuality does not hold a strong grip on them. Love and sex are held as separate forces. The opposite may be said to be true of the Five personality. Sensuality is their predominant nature. Love and sex are one and the same thing. As emotionally and physically oriented people sexual activity is an important and consuming part of their life. While the Six partner will insist on using discretion, suitable times and places for lovemaking, immediate needs of the impulsive Five override such concerns. Touching and physical closeness is a natural form of communication with the Five but the mental Six keeps distance between themselves and people, and communicates their affections through verbal endearments.

Fives and Sixes born in the 1st, 10th, 11th and 12th months have much greater potential to take charge of their lives and maintain a proper sense of direction. The 1 vibration gives them self-confidence, drive and a greater sense of purpose. But a partnership between these people will still be one in which each partner is likely to follow their own pattern of living rather than merge into an interlocked union. If any concessions are made they are likely to come from the Six. Fives and Sixes born in other months do not have the same incentive and perseverance to maintain a course of action until they have achieved their aims.

5TH AND 7TH BIRTHDAYS

Mythology has it that the planet Mercury functions as the messenger of the Gods and the planet Neptune to represent Divinity itself. Vibrations emitted from these planets are centralised in the 5th and 7th days and personified in Five and Seven personalities respectively. Any correlation in the functions of these vibratory forces remains a factor apart from their singular natures. In other words, Five and Seven individuals may display certain corresponding features but their personality structures, taken as a whole, reveal totally different identities.

The 5 vibration is a super active force that functions principally on the emotional plane of expression. At the same time it has ‘right of way’ into the physical, mental and intuitional planes – an opening which is not available to other vibratory forces. This ‘right of way’ is used continually by whatever person or thing is influenced by this vibration. Their multi-dimensional expression accounts for the Five’s individual capacity to be here, there and everywhere, and to be mobile, speedy alert, aware, sensitive, changeable, responsive and inquisitive. Maximum use is made of the pleasures to be derived from the five senses. The Five’s mind is one large question mark pointed at the phenomenal world. They seek to know and do almost everything, with the result that they seldom find time to specialise. However, this does not stop them from posing as specialists in front of less initiated people. While Fives fit in admirably into conditions that call for versatility, adaptability, quick decisions, quick reflexes, physical courage and steady nerves, they are misfits in conditions that require patience, steadfastness, silence, tranquillity, monotony, regularity, timetables and especially rules, regulations, confinement and discipline.

The 5 and 7 vibrations are of the same active polarity (as opposed to the receptive polarity symbolised by even numbers), but the 7 is based on the physical plane. Its physical attributes, however, do not cover the full spectrum of the physical plane. They are set apart, specialised and infused by a spiritual and mystical element. They are therefore not as representative of the physical plane as the 1 and 4 vibrations. The unusual mixture of material and immaterial elements creates a unique integral personality not easily understood by the average individual. Sevens themselves find it difficult to adjust to people who follow a purely physical and materialistic lifestyle. While Sevens channel most of their mental energy into selected physical outlets and sublimate the rest into abstract pursuits, especially in their free time, they do not have access into the emotional plane of expression for a free flow of emotion. This accounts for the appearance of distance, aloofness and reserve exhibited by the Seven personality.

While the Five has the courage and curiosity to explore and enjoy the phenomenal world, Sevens have the courage and curiosity to investigate and commune with the invisible world. Their contemplative and introspective habits contribute to the far-away look in their-eyes, but does not diminish their keen sense of awareness; a quality which they share with the Five personality. While Fives are able to turn their hand to almost anything and are always open to new experiences, Sevens select their private and public pursuits carefully and proceed to specialise in them. While the Five’s versatility opens a wide field of opportunity for employment and vocations, their changeable nature is often responsible for frequent and often inconvenient changes in vocation and other pastimes. Sevens are not as flexible and adaptable and tend to resist unnecessary change. They assume private and public responsibility willingly and can be trusted to perform their duty without supervision.

The spiritual force within the Seven usually sets them apart from the generality of society, but not all Sevens are conscious of their spiritual destination. Younger Sevens may be involved in a physically oriented lifestyle and during this period their paths may cross those of the fast-moving Five. In the event of these individuals forming a relationship a clear partnership leader will not emerge. Freedom-loving Fives try to organise the lives of others so that they escape the responsibilities of leadership. They are not followers, nor are they successful in a cooperative partnership unless forced to abide by certain disciplines by a strong partner. There are not many who can bring a Five under control, but a Seven is one of the few exceptions who can do so. Sevens are invariably loners or solo players in the game of life. They work best without the personal interaction associated with leadership or the restrictions imposed on them by authority. Their individuality and privacy are jealously guarded. The Five’s initial attempts to organise things their way will soon be overruled by the Seven’s direct, disciplined, fair and methodical style of doing things. Domestic duties do not attract either partner but a Seven is in a better position to cope with such duties due to their love of solitude, privacy and a non-aggressive and non-competitive disposition. Their strong sense of responsibility and duty combined with the fact that they spend much more time at home, will make the Seven partner the more influential force in the household. The Five’s personality will be stifled when confined to domestic duty.

A social scene certainly reveals the contrasts in this odd couple. The hail-fellow-well-met disposition of the Five puts everyone at ease. An informal, casual and enthusiastic temperament enables them to fit into any sort of company without reservations. As uninhibited mixers, they know how to make the best of situations and participate freely in group activity and still retain their individuality. Unlike certain compliant and defensive individuals they feel no need to identify with others or nurture a sense of belonging. They have many more acquaintances than intimate friends. The Seven’s social attributes are the reverse of the Five’s. While Fives are actors who like to dramatise themselves in various roles, Sevens are observers who feel no desire to perform or display their accomplishments. While Fives depend on activity and social intercourse associated with such activity for self-expression, Sevens do not place their need for self-expression in the hands of others. They derive fulfilment from within themselves. Their greatest strength lies in this singular form of independence. It will be quite exceptional to meet with a Seven who is an active or frontline member of a group or social club. They become disturbed and restless by the mixed vibrations of unselected company and withdraw into themselves as a protective measure. This aloof and distant stance may be kept up until they find someone of their own depth with whom they could communicate on a person to person basis. Even then, they will always hold a part of themselves in reserve. If they fail to find a kindred soul they remain quite content with their own thoughts until the time comes to leave. Usually, when the Seven is ready to leave the Five has not given a thought of doing so. Reconciling these different social attitudes will be a perennial problem in this partnership.

The medium of speech is used quite sparingly by the Seven, but Fives are among the greatest talkers of this world. Their thoughts occur with such speed and diversity that their need to verbalise them at the same time becomes irresistible. They are well known for the habit of cutting into conversation. The Seven’s thoughts do not enter with such a tremendous rush and their habit is to keep their thoughts to themselves. Fives talk freely about themselves and join in any topic of conversation. Sevens, who are good listeners, remain silent on personal matters and extend their taciturnity into general conversation except when some matter that warrants serious discussion is introduced. Both speak their minds and are not over-concerned about the reactions of others. In different ways both make a noticeable impression on their listeners. Fives have a magnetic and sensuous effect on their audience though not necessarily a long term one, and what they say may not take a permanent hold. Sevens project an intellectuality that penetrates the mind and even the soul, having a lasting effect on their listeners. Fives are argumentative people who use their fluency of speech as a means of defence and attack. The Seven’s strength lies in their word capacity enabling them to sum up an issue in a few meaningful words, and a refusal to proceed into further discussion. They become totally inaccessible when they choose to withdraw into themselves or close a discussion. A taciturn Seven and a loquacious Five certainly make a curious twosome.

These are partners who feel that their leisure time is their own. Fives like to enjoy their freedom while Sevens revel in privacy and aloneness. Their spare time activities consequently take different directions. Fives are people of keen activity and Sevens are, for the most part, keen students. Their high-minded pursuits do not pass over the heads of their Five partners, as they may with certain other personality types. However, the problem with the Five is that their attention is not retained by abstract matters, as the tangible pleasures of the senses take precedence over intangible pleasures of the mind and inner self. To the awakened Seven, experience of the visible world to the exclusion of the invisible world is a life without meaning. Their emotions which are not demonstrated in their interaction with people are directed into music, poetry, religious texts and esoteric literature. They are also historians and antiquarians. Everything that is old interests the Seven while everything that is new interests the Five. Open air hobbies of a different type will attract both partners. Fives enjoy all forms of competitive and non-competitive sport while Sevens take to all activities connected with the natural world such as birdwatching, fishing, hunting, boating, and mountaineering. They are both confirmed gardeners. Travel off the beaten track may be one area in which these partners may enjoy each other’s company though here again they may have to agree to disagree on particular points of interest.

Financial security is not the highest priority with either partner. They neither worship nor denounce money but instead use it merely as a means of exchange. However, financial responsibility is a strong characteristic found in the Seven which is not necessarily displayed by the Five. Their varied and busy, and often self-indulgent lifestyle, involves considerable expense which the more sedate lifestyle of the Seven does not incur. The Seven’s philosophy is that happiness and contentment can be gained better by limiting desires rather than by increasing activity prompted by increasing desires. Fives take the opposite view. The Seven’s philosophy helps them to sit back and enjoy what they possess while the Five’s constant pursuit of new things often deprives them of the time to enjoy what they have. For the financial security of this partnership the Seven should keep a tight rein on expenditure relating to all household affairs. The Five’s spending may often exceed their income, and some Fives may resort to gambling in order to balance their budgets. This is a habit the Five easily falls into as they are natural gamblers. Sevens are shrewd investors rather than speculators. Their cautious spending habits and the Five’s unmindful spending habits are bound to become a frequent source of conflict.

Despite the Seven’s spiritual nature this personality is physically oriented in the sexual sense and they admit no inconsistency between their spirituality and their sexuality. Both are equally vital. In keeping with the Five’s highly sensuous nature they are imaginative and experimental. This aspect of the Seven’s constitution will be compatible with that of the Five but there are certain definite reservations. The Seven does not display sentiment or emotion through body language. Their love life is private and personal. There is also no strain on their constitution to remain faithful to one partner. The Five, on the other hand, is open and uninhibited in their desire, and finds it very difficult to remain faithful to a single partner. Given the opportunity, (and Fives usually create these opportunities), they will be found to be adroit practitioners of clandestine affairs. They are capable of falling genuinely in love with more than one person at any given time – at least in their opinion. On an intimate level the chances of Fives and Sevens leading unattached lives are greater than the chances of interlocked relationships. The Five’s devotion to physical experience and a life of melodrama means more to them than a close personal relationship, while the Seven’s devotion to metaphysical study means more to them than sacrifice of their life to a single individual.

Fives and Sevens born in the 1st, 10th, 11th and 12th months express positive characteristics of their birthdays. Negative features usually enter into the personality of those born in other months. However, whether negative or positive or something in between, a Five/Seven relationship is likely to be problematic.

5TH AND 8TH BIRTHDAYS

The natural attraction of opposite polarities is often responsible for successful partnerships as personality differences are not allowed to work as liabilities but, are wisely used instead as reciprocal powers that strengthen a relationship. On the other hand couples chime together on the basis of similarities of temperament. On the surface, the 5th and 8th birthdays appear to provide both conditions. The 5 and 8 vibrations function at opposite poles, the first being active and the second passive or receptive. At the same time, both share common ground on the emotional plane. Despite what appears to be dual opportunities for forming a successful relationship, Five and Eight partners will be confronted by personality traits that are difficult to reconcile. Several Five and Eight characteristics are such that they evoke feelings of hostility, rivalry and misunderstanding rather than cooperation and reconciliation. Furthermore, the common ground of the emotional plane may give rise to volatile situations that may interfere with their attempts to rationalise conflicting points of view. Though both individuals are emotionally oriented, their emotions are handled in totally different ways. The Five’s emotions are exposed and dramatised while the Eight holds back emotion and releases it only in occasional bursts of aggression or frustration.

The Five is an adventurer whose thought processes are rapid and spread over wide horizons. The Eight is a builder on a large scale whose thought processes are deliberate and concentrated with considerable force on an upward process of achievement. The fundamental and unchangeable nature of the 5 vibration is free and unhindered movement. Anyone in close association with this personality has to cope with a fast-moving, impulsive, changing and involved lifestyle. Emotional orientation does not prevent the Five from entering into physical, mental and intuitional fields of expression. Their demonstrative ways are carried into whatever activity they engage in. The constant shifting from one plane of expression to another, and more often than not, simultaneous expression on multi-dimensional levels, accounts for the diversified and unpredictable nature of the Five personality. This is all too often incompatible with the clear-cut and set qualities of people who operate for the most part on a single plane of expression, such as an Eight personality.

The field of operation of both Fives and Eights is the physical and material world. With so much time and energy spent in this zone, hardly anything is left for metaphysical and spiritual work. Whereas the 5 vibration stands for personal freedom, the 8 stands for personal power. The Eight personality is driven by one-pointed ambition to acquire and exercise power in the world and nothing is allowed to stand in the way of ambition. The acquisition of material wealth is regarded as the principal means by which this is achieved. As a consequence, they grow into the habit of measuring life in terms of material success and possessions. Inevitably, other considerations take second place in their scheme of things. The Eight breadwinner relies on a stable and dependable partner to take up domestic duties while their own energies are directed into building a career. People who cage in their emotions in personal relations must find other outlets for their release, and Eights find their main outlet in work. Their heart and soul goes into everything they undertake. They plunge into whatever task they do with enthusiasm, competitiveness and tremendous nervous energy. They do not waver in their determination to succeed and greatly resent being distracted by other claims upon their time. They are born organisers who expertly assign responsibilities to the right people and thus gather around them a team that performs with the same degree of zeal and dedication as their leader. Someone, such as a Five, may display a great deal of initial enthusiasm but their long-term dependability is suspect. They do not keep up the same strength of purpose nor do they put everything they have into a task. As a result, they seldom measure up to the Eight’s standards of consistency and efficiency. Besides, the freedom-living Five does not take kindly to the Eight’s authoritative ways. While the Five finds the Eight’s manner restrictive, the Eight may fail to recognise the diversity of human nature that is epitomised in the Five character.

Five and Eight partners will remain rivals in regard to policy, decision making, and authority in general. Both will want to take control in their own style as neither will readily work in a spirit of cooperation or give and take. One will attempt to organise the life of the other and neither party will make any headway. Fives try to organise and even manipulate people and situations to that they have others working for them in all routine tasks while they enjoy freedom of movement and action. Eights concentrate on forming a successful team and leaving themselves free to handle larger issues. Both Fives and Eights are self-assertive, ambitious and authoritative individuals who belong to public life. As a consequence, neither will be prepared to assume domestic duties which inevitably tie them down. An Eight who takes up full-time domestic duty will be too over-organised and authoritative for the relaxed atmosphere needed for a simple and happy home life. The domestic circle will suffer from a concentration of the Eight’s tremendous energy and administrative talents which should be directed into an impersonal field of activity. The tendency to hide their feelings often creates an inaccessible and commanding appearance. This image may contribute to success in public life but is too often carried to the disadvantage of all into family life. Their inability to relax in a family atmosphere is another problem. All Eights have a high sense of justice and a keen perception and sympathy for the problems of others, and family members who are aware of their sensitive interior can penetrate or disregard this façade in inaccessibility. Fives are generally disorganised and disinterested homemakers. Centralised management of the home will suffer with a Five in charge, as other interests will always interfere with domestic responsibilities.

Fives are free thinkers with a cosmopolitan and unconventional outlook in relation to social activity. They adjust to and feel at ease in any environment which satisfies their sense of curiosity and spirit of adventure. The involved and speedy lifestyle of the Five is such that they are left with little time to share with close friends. As a consequence, they end up with many acquaintances but few intimate friends. Activity is what they are after rather than the comforts of companionship. Their social life is guided by their need for change, variety and excitement. They are able to separate business and pleasure and not pursue one to the exclusion or at the expense of the other.

Eights are conservative but friendly people who work and play within the established order of society. Their social life is dependent on the time available to them after their heavy round of business commitments or official responsibilities. More often than not, their limited social activity is with business associates and their families. They find it difficult to break away into company totally unrelated to their public affairs. With such different social tendencies, Fives and Eights find it a problem to meet on common ground. Heated arguments could flare up when certain essential social obligations have to be met by both. On the few occasions they may get together, conduct natural and normal to the uninhibited Five may be too bold and flamboyant to the conservative Eight.

Both Fives and Eights suffer from various forms of tension, frustration and nervous strain: the Five from over-expenditure of nervous energy in too many activities, and the Eight by putting too much emotional effort into work. Their constitutions are restored only when they learn to slow down and divorce themselves from work by taking up something different in their leisure time. Fives are unlikely to slow down even when they switch from work to play. The areas in all planes of expression open to a Five for spare time activity are as plentiful as their restless nature can devise. Eight partners usually dissociate themselves from the variety of interests taken up by the Five. The Eight is not open to as wide a choice of hobbies. Unless strongly influenced by other points of power, they are not travellers, or nature lovers, and are not usually attracted to self-study through the medium of books and societies. An Eight who can be persuaded to cease absorption in work, or work related activities, may turn to sport. Here again, they do not completely divorce themselves from their competitive nature and administrative skills. Those who no longer engage in active sport take up coaching and administrative positions. Fives and Eights do not depend on each other’s company and for the most part will not act as a twosome, however, sport is one direction in which they share common interest.

Money matters are most likely to cause the biggest problems. By and large, the Five personality lives in the present and Eights constantly build for the future. Fives therefore spend their money as it comes in. They are versatile people with the widest range of possibilities for earning a living. They also have the quickest recovery rate from a downturn in their fortunes. Their lifestyle is often self-indulgent and incurs a variety of costs. They are gamblers by nature who are prepared to take risks, and falling into debt does not disturb them. They are speedy shoppers, too impatient to look for bargains. Eights on the other hand are ever mindful of financial security. Careful planning, foresight and good judgment are natural traits used to secure their nest egg. When a career or business built up by an Eight crashes, they are frightfully slow at recovery. All forms of gambling for sport or as a means of livelihood are given a wide berth, and debts are incurred only for legitimate and practical business needs. Though their personal expenses are not as numerous and extravagant as those of the Five, whatever is purchased by an Eight is always of good quality. An Eight will have no need to borrow money for personal or domestic purposes. Money is made available before demands and wants are considered while, in the case of the Five, demands and needs often precede availability of funds. The busy Eight needs a reliable partner to manage family expenses. They are people who become experts at managing other peoples’ financial affairs, leaving little time and concern for day-to-day shopping and budgeting in domestic life. A Five partner will not quality as a thrifty and skilful money manager. The position will be reversed with an Eight homemaker who will without doubt seize full control of all financial affairs even up to the smallest item of expenditure.

Eights are prepared to work hard for their loved ones, but what an Eight may not provide is emotional closeness. Family intimacy and togetherness suffer as a result of the Eight breadwinner’s absorption in a career or business. As in money matters, the freedom loving lifestyle of the Five, which involves much coming and going and often a finger in every pie, cannot always be relied upon to nurture a warm and intimate family atmosphere. Both personality types expect more of their partners than they are prepared to give towards achieving family closeness. The Five’s passion for variety, curiosity and experimentation will not be excluded from their love life. On the contrary, it will be most evident in this area, especially when coupled with a work oriented partner. In order to remain faithful, a Five needs a highly romantic and equally versatile partner. They could walk away from a relationship that has turned dull and commonplace. Eights are warm hearted and dedicated in their love but unromantic. A constantly demanding lover, such as a Five could be, will be burdensome to the Eight, who demands a strict time and place for release of emotion and passion. The busy Eight may often be the last to realise that the Five partner may be looking further a field for fulfilment of their adventurous spirit.

Fives and Eights born in the 1st, 10th, 11th or 12th months are positive personalities as their qualities of leadership are strengthened by self-reliance, self-confidence, decision, authority, and organisation provided by the 1 vibration in these months. Neither partner will submit to a secondary role or accept an equal partnership. If one partner only is born in one of these months, this partner will take charge but many differences of opinion will still exist. If neither partner has the 1 vibration in the birth month, negative influences will take hold of them, especially the lack of decision in the Eight and lack of direction in the Five.

5TH AND 9TH BIRTHDAYS

A fascinating and comprehensive array of vibrations comes into focus in a combination of the 5th and 9th birthdays. They are formed by vibratory forces which cover all planes of expression, namely the physical, emotional, mental, and intuitive. Their attractiveness lies in the fact that both demonstrate, individually and collectively, a greater variety or multiplicity of qualities than any other single digit or combination of single digits. Each of the single digits 1 to 8 symbolises a special group of vibrations. The number 9, however, does not symbolise individual characteristics but is a compound of the full range of vibratory forces from 1 to 8. Hence its inherent capacity to function on multi-dimensional levels, despite its position on the mental plane as depicted in the numerological grid. Such functioning is however not in equal proportion. In order of strength, it functions best on the mental, intuitional and emotional levels and least of all on the physical or practical level. The grid which depicts the position from which each vibration operates has the 5 vibration in the centre position. By virtue of this centre position and its own outgoing nature, the 5 gains access into all other areas of expression. The symbol of this vibration is also the star which reaches out in all directions with equal strength. Neither the 5 nor the 9 can, in fact, be identified in terms of a standard set of characteristics.

The 5 and 9 vibrations are active and outgoing forces responsible for the extroverted nature of all Five and Nine personalities, but the difference in the composition of their multi-dimensional structure is reflected in the different ways Five and Nine individuals express themselves. This is evident even when they use the same plane of expression. As the wide world of activity is their stamping ground, the paths of Fives and Nines constantly cross each other. Furthermore, as both personality types are easily carried away by emotion and enthusiasm, spontaneous attraction causing both parties to fall over each other will not be surprising. But the problem faced by both is that emotion and enthusiasm could be short-lived. This does not mean that Fives and Nines cannot settle down into an amicable relationship. These are not types who settle down in the conventional sense as contended suburbanites. The partnership could develop into a happy and adventuresome one in which friendship will play a significant part. It will also be an emotionally rich relationship. The 9 may be a mentally oriented vibration but it contains as much emotion as the 5 although it may not be as freely demonstrated. The Nine’s emotions, especially the negative ones, rise to their heads where they build up until they can no longer be contained. They are then given out in sudden bursts. Fives do not possess the same explosive nature as their emotions are spontaneously released at all times. Both partners are fond of melodrama and naturally create and attract much of it into their lives. When their emotions are aroused, they could act unwisely. Fives, however, possess an element of cunning in their personality structure which makes them less vulnerable than the Nine, who is trusting and impressionable. Nines are easily influenced by evoking their compassionate nature.

As freedom of movement is the Five’s cardinal desire every effort is made to organise their environment, especially their partner’s, in such a way that they are relieved of all routine tasks and left free to act as the spirit moves them. They are also intolerant of dependent partners. While maintaining their own independence and freedom, they expect their partners to do the same, but not necessarily in the same manner. The Five’s individualistic attitudes will be most in the domestic scene. They are much too restless to be fulfilled by a domestic way of life. A home oriented and self-disciplined partner, who is prepared to take charge of the domestic scene while they plunge into their natural element of public activity, is what they need. They are resourceful and versatile in their capacity as providers but not always consistent in their careers. Sudden changes for better or worse can be expected, but in the latter event they produce the initiative to speedily re-establish themselves. The Five’s expectations of support in the domestic scene will not be set by their Nine partners who possess very much the same outward tendencies. All attempts to organise or manipulate them will be resisted as the Nine is not meant for the domestic scene, but for professional life. Nines do not use the Five’s artful methods to relieve themselves of domestic responsibility, but try instead to share these necessary duties and enjoy them. Though routine, timetables and a disciplined lifestyle are distasteful to them, they are willing to take up a fair share. Both partners have the capacity to live within a complicated pattern of events and an equal share of domestic duties should not become a problem. However, under the divided authority of two people who are always in a hurry, the home is not likely to be run on a well organised, harmonious and economical system.

Social activity will always be more attractive than a home-bound lifestyle. Social popularity is achieved through personal magnetism occasioned by the animated and sensual nature of the Five, and wisdom and intellectuality in the Nine. The Five has the power to arouse and vitalise the senses while the Nine has the capacity to reach the intellect and soul. The Five projects a sprightly, dare-devil and questioning image while the Nine has a dignified and courteous bearing. Both individuals are emancipated in every way and are independent of group standards. Neither will be limited to a small circle of friends and acquaintances selected for their special qualities. Their cosmopolitan way of life attracts companions from every condition and level of society. The Five’s conduct and attitude towards people is usually unrestrained, uninhibited and candid. They could also be devious and evasive. Many Fives believe that to conceal truth to some degree is acceptable. They could also make the best of situations and use them to their advantage. The Nine is usually a polished product with all angular points rounded off. A compassionate nature and a conscious identification and sympathy with all life is the hallmark of the Nine. As Fives and Nines are not dependent on each other, they can choose between a relatively independent social life or move as a twosome. Their options should in any case be based on personal freedom. A liberated relationship in all respects rather than one with mutually imposed boundaries will be a characteristic feature of their partnership. In their interaction with people, Fives are inclined to take as much as they give, while the Nine gives much more than they take. A spiritual and humanitarian undertone influences their behaviour.

Animated conversation and rich laughter, punctuated by the occasional heated argument, will be a perennial feature of this partnership. Both Fives and Nines are great communicators. Their presence in any company relieves others of the need to keep up the flow of talk. They do not hesitate to introduce themselves and strike up a conversation with strangers. Strangers, as such, do not exist for these people. Barriers put up by shy and insecure people are also lifted. Fives do not remain listeners for long, as the urge to give out their points of view become uncontrollable. They anticipate slower speakers and so not hesitate to cut in and finish their sentences for them. There may be considerable variety in the Five’s choice of topics but not necessarily great depth. Nines are not as full of opinions. They are courteous listeners who patiently await their turn to speak and then give out their ideas with the unconscious authority of naturally wise people. They make friends by giving a sympathetic ear to their problems and offering constructive advice. Fives and Nines can engage in such verbal duelling without evoking feeling of bitterness or subsequent resentment. However, in any contentious issue, the Five is more inclined to shift blame from themselves onto their partners or others but the Nine is more likely to accept responsibility for any real or imagined mistakes.

As in other aspects of life, these personality types are not dependent upon each other’s company while spending their leisure time. They could disport as a happy twosome or take up separate amusements. But the chances are that they will be together for the most part. As neither can handle inactivity or see their life settle into a fixed pattern of events, there will always be much to do and many places to visit. Both feel the need to experience life in the widest possible way and travel becomes their first choice for doing so. They are not just the average tourist who chooses standard tours, but are genuine travellers who seek adventure and challenges off the beaten track. Both are prepared to follow the whim of the moment and change travelling plans. As Nines are more receptive to higher subtle forces, they possess a studious nature which enjoys meditative pleasures and being attuned with nature. They are also drawn to art, music, literature and abstract learning. Fives may also indulge in these pastimes but with a lighter touch as they are more fulfilled by physical activity such as competitive sport.

Both partners rate freedom and life’s experiences above security. Their time and money will not be used for building for the future as they are people who live in the present. Their earning capacity is very high but money goes out as fast as it comes in, and often faster. They are unlikely to spend restless nights worrying about how they are to make ends meet. Generosity and impressionability on the part of the Nine, the Five’s love of gambling and lack of adequate self-discipline in both, may add further strains to their financial position. Neither feels any anxiety over financial affairs as both have a built-in capacity to take setbacks in their stride and restore themselves soon after without too much effort.

Fives and Nines fall in love with great speed and intensity and show their affection openly. Fives could quickly fall out of love if their partners do not offer the variety, excitement and stimulation needed to sustain their continued interest. Nines are idealists who become disillusioned when their partners do not measure up to their higher standards of mental, cultural and spiritual living. Conditions required by both will be met in this partnership with slight differences which can be overcome. While the comprehensive Nine personality has no difficulty living up the Five’s expectations, the Five may need to make some effort to follow some of the Nine’s impersonal ideals – a task that is not beyond the adaptable Five. Though neither will set up rules and codes of conduct, the example set by the humanitarian outlook of the Nine will evoke the best qualities of the Five. On the other hand, the Five’s willingness to take chances and their ability to follow up with instant action will strengthen the normally indecisive and impractical nature of the Nine. Nines are subject to changing moods. They experience high ‘highs’ and low ‘lows’. The Five’s moods do not reach such extremes and their recovery into a relatively normal emotional state is much quicker. The danger points in this partnership are reached when Nines find themselves in a prolonged ‘low’. A radical personality change takes place when this occurs. They retreat into themselves and become totally inaccessible. Impatient Fives will not be sympathetic and understanding but will look for personal pleasure elsewhere. Neither partner has any inhibitions in their relationship with the opposite sex. They are highly sexed and passionate individuals whose sexual compatibility is beyond question. However, sex alone will not hold the partnership together for long on account of the Nine’s yearning for non-physical activity. This is not inconsistent with their passionate nature but functions as an essential part of their comprehensive nature.

Positive Fives and Nines have a much better chance of establishing a compatible relationship. Self-esteem and self-confidence will be strong and these elements will help them work out compromises on the basis of equality in all aspects of life. The 1 vibration found in the months of January, October, November and December ensures positivity in these individuals. If just one partner is born in one of these months, it will be this individual who will take the decision making role. The position will become difficult if neither partner is positively geared. Both will be inclined to move in all sorts of directions and not be able to compromise on a steady course of action.

5TH AND 10TH BIRTHDAYS

The relationship between partners born on the 5th and 10th days will not be noticeably different to that between a couple born on the 1st and 5th days of the month. The chapter on the 1st and 5th birthdays may be referred to. The presence of the Zero in the 10th day neither adds new personality traits nor does it take away any features of the 1 vibration. What it does do is add strength to an already strong individual. As a result, personality differences with a Five partner may become a little more difficult to reconcile. However, there are other spheres of influence to be considered. These may contain softening receptive vibrations which will neutralise the hardening influence introduced by the Zero.

5TH AND 11TH BIRTHDAYS

The single digit or single vibration controlling the 5th day of the month produces a clear and open Five personality. The vibrations of the birth month or other spheres of influence will decide whether the Five operates as a positive character, a negative one or as someone in between. A noticeable difference will be observed in each of these forms of expression. In whatever category a Five is found, he or she will not be an easy partner with whom a close and interlocking relationship can be formed. Characteristics which do not lend themselves to this intimate state arise from the Five’s irrepressible need for personal freedom in thought, word and action. Fives who are negatively inclined invariably abuse the freedom they claim for themselves reducing even further their chances of forming a united relationship. Consequently, their partners are faced with the difficult task of holding them on to the straight and narrow path of obligation, duty and mutual responsibility. They do not always succeed. Some partners may take up whatever a Five has not done in addition to their own share of duties, but others will not do so as they are themselves too busily engaged in their own affairs. The Eleven personality born on the 11th day belongs to the latter category. A Five/Eleven partnership therefore is likely to be an unsettled and often turbulent one. Disorder in their personal lives is not unusual in both personality types. Although there are several types in their ranks, Elevens fall broadly into three categories, but not in terms of positivity or negativity. There are those who live up to the vastly expanded consciousness of the master vibration, those who live as reinforced Two personalities, and those who fluctuate between the two states. The first category does not claim many Elevens but the second and third may be found in equal proportion. The influences of the master vibration are felt and expressed in different degrees by all Elevens on conscious and subconscious levels. Receptivity to non-physical forces through revelation, inspiration, intuition, precognition, and inventiveness, is the principal benefit. Loss of personal direction and irresponsibility are the main features of negativity found in the Five but is not found in any Eleven, due to the strength of the two self-directing 1 vibrations. The only form of negativity in the Eleven is caused by the repetition of this vibration in the birth month, but this merely increases their determination and strength of purpose and stubbornness. When set upon a course of action, they cannot be deflected or discouraged. Inability to share and cooperate with others are the main problems with negatively inclined elevens.

In general terms Fives and Elevens are distinguished by realism in the one and idealism in the other. Fives see the world as it is while Elevens as they would like it to be. Having little doubt that the world of physical experience is real, Fives enjoy the world in its surface aspects. Idealistic Elevens like to ponder over profound issues and penetrate deeper into the nature of things. Their egos are less personal and therefore do not get in the way of objective enquiry. Many Fives are not without ideals nor are many Elevens without realistic attitudes. Idealistic Fives found mainly in the positive category are known as freedom fighters and activists in unionism, politics and various liberation movements. Realistic Elevens are those whose thought processes are prevented from rising to impractical and over-imaginative levels by the presence of physical vibrations in their birth months and birth years. Birth dates such as 11.9.1966 or 11.6.1951 produce ‘idealistic’ Elevens while the 11.11.1971 or 11.4.1956 produce ‘realistic’ Elevens. Because of the multiform natures open to people born on the 5th and 11th days, compatibility can be analysed only in general terms.

Fives and Elevens are not followers or supporters by nature, nor do they seek autocratic leadership. They prefer to be left to their own devices. The most they would do is try to organise their environment in such a way that keeps them free to act as they please. Distribution of authority and proper organisation within this partnership will always be a problem. Two different interpretations, each opposed to the other, on how things should be managed, will constantly arise. They are likely to step on each other’s toes too often to succeed in establishing a peaceful and well organised domestic scene. Both parties are prompt to give free advice but not as quick to set an example or follow their own advice. They abide by self-imposed standards and remain intolerant of others who do not observe them. These are not domesticated people. Conflict between interests at home and vocational ambition felt by both partners, could lead to an unsettled state of affairs. The small category of realistic Elevens will be an exception to this rule. They can dutifully assume the role of wage earner or homemaker and make a success of either one.

All Fives and most Elevens are extroverted individuals whose social life covers a wide range of people in all walks of life. Neither has any inhibitions or prejudices (realistic Elevens excepted) in regard to social status or cultural differences. Following their restless nature Fives may favour physical activity more than direct interaction with people, but Elevens have a greater need for interaction with people. They are often involved with large groups as leaders of ideas, conceptions and revolutionary thought, and usually receive the support of their Five partners. Provided they resist the temptation to steal attention from each other, a Five/Eleven social combination will be a powerful force that is much more successful in public life than on the domestic front. As both are reformers at heart, they cannot resist letting others be themselves and accept them as they are, but let loose their reformist mentality freely in their social life. Individually and jointly they may earn displeasure as well as popularity as a result of their outspoken manner. However, while accepting popularity as their just due, they are not types that are dismayed by unpopularity.

Oral expression and body language are potent weapons used by these personalities. They find themselves in their element on a real or imaginary platform enthusiastically giving out their thoughts and feelings, and often unmoved by the reactions of their audiences. Most Fives and Elevens could range from run-of-the-mill soapbox speakers to inspirational and magnetic speakers. Lines of communication in their private lives are always open but conversation often gets out of hand when both try to outdo each other in argument and counter argument and offer irrational reasons in defence. Both are inclined to draw exaggerated conclusions from simple premises and each will be too sure of his or her own grounds to give the other a fair hearing. They need to learn when to stop talking if they really wish to be heard and appreciated.

For the most part a Five personality lives a life of sensation while the Eleven’s life is essentially one of thought and inspiration. These features may be reflected in the manner they choose to spend their free time. While the Five shows courage and curiosity in exploring and experiencing the physical world, the Eleven directs these same qualities into the non-physical world. Physical experience of all tangible things being the Five’s natural choice, they remain absorbed in the boundless opportunities for pleasure in the world of touch. While Elevens do not reject the physical world, they are aware that sense experience of physical things is not the only source of pleasure and knowledge. Prompted by a strong spiritual element in their nature, they acknowledge and extend their interest into metaphysical and supernatural aspects of life, and at this point they may take a separate course from their Five partners. They could, in fact, diverge into either scientific or creative activities, or take up the study and practice of psychology, astrology, astronomy, art, poetry, and mystical enquiry. Much of their time may be spent in group activity engaged in philosophical discussions, experiments and workshops. Just as an Eleven does not reject physical experience, Fives may not reject enquiry into abstract matters or the inner aspects of life. However, the same depth of interest and sustained enthusiasm cannot be expected of them. This is so, not only due to their physical orientation but also their natural inclination to constantly flit from one thing to another. For the most part a Five may choose to remain outside the Eleven’s metaphysical orbit, and take up various forms of competitive and non-competitive sport. One or more forms of gambling will attract most Fives.

Although the Five possesses a worldly attitude of mind, they are not people who allow their worldly goods to take possession of them. Gathering experience in every possible phase of existence is their purpose and not accumulation of possessions which may hold them down. Their lifestyle is too speedy and changeable for seeds of attachment to be sown. Elevens too are not attached to material goods as spiritual realities hold a much greater attraction. Financial gain for its own sake will not be sought after by either. Money that comes in will be used as a necessary medium of exchange but not as a means of security and happiness. Both possess the courage to withstand ups and downs of life and safeguard their sense of wellbeing from the effects of doubt and fear for the future. Their financial position may be unpredictable as it is not in the nature of either to practice restraint in their spending habits. This is just another aspect of the general disorder in their personal lives. The only advantage that results is that money will rarely be the cause of friction between the two. An Eleven who is supported by physical vibrations in other areas of influence, will be an exception. As down-to-earth realists, these Elevens are the opposite of their idealist brothers and sisters. They are self-disciplined and thrifty individuals with a proper sense of values who will automatically take control of expenditure.

Physical joys are never far from the minds of Five personalities as they are under the control of a vibration representing the five senses. Physical joys in the form of sex activity will be among their main pleasures. Readiness at all times and a need for variety in the Five’s sexual exploits become evident when other business is promptly put aside if the pleasures of the senses offer an invitation. This is not the case with an Eleven as these people need to concentrate on one thing at a time. While Fives are orally and physically expressive of their feelings and are ever alert and responsive to the attraction of the opposite sex, Elevens keep their feelings to themselves and tend to compartmentalise their activities so that their sex lives, among other things, get locked into a regular behaviour pattern. Elevens are by no means inferior to the Five in sex expression, but choose to separate sex from other activity. As the adventurous and restless spirit of the Five is based on the sensual level, they become exposed to more temptations than others. The pressure of surrendering their freedom and staying faithful to a single partner is not easily handled. Elevens do not experience these problems as their sense of adventure and exploration is directed into non-physical realms. Their partners are not obliged to face competition. However an Eleven, while engaging in idealistic schemes, may overlook the greater emotional and physical needs of their Five partners. This is a dangerous course to take with a pleasure-seeking Five. Unresponsiveness or depriving the Five of physical relations in any manner or at any time is the quickest way to lose a Five partner to someone else.

A Five/Eleven partnership has its best chance of success if the Eleven partner is born in the 1st, 4th, 10th, 11th, or 12th months of the year. These Elevens will be essentially physically oriented and down-to-earth in their outlook on life. Although the Five will have to put up with a partner with no emotional expression, they will in return have a duty conscious and totally dependable partner.

5TH AND 12TH BIRTHDAYS

In a combination of birthdays in which odd numbers predominate in one and even numbers in the other, the mutual attraction of opposite polarities creates ideal conditions for an interlocked relationship. This situation will not arise in a birthday combination controlled by odd numbers as in the case of the 5th and 12th combination. The receptive nature of the number 2 is overwhelmed by the strong active forces of the 1 and 3 in the 12th day. Individualistic rather than cooperative attitudes are natural features in people influenced by active vibrations symbolised by odd numbers. Consequently, the basis on which a Five/Twelve partnership will operate will be independence instead of interdependence.

Analysis of a single digit birthday such as the 5th is a straightforward task when compared with a multiple digit birthday which is usually a composition of 2 or 3 interacting vibrations. Five personalities, born on the 5th day, display qualities of the 5 vibration in concentrated form. This vibration is strong enough to resist to a large extent the modifying influences of vibrations from other areas of influence, particularly from the birth month. In other words, Five personalities remain unmistakable Five personalities regardless of the other numbers in their birth date and names. However, there are different types of Five personalities taken in order of positivity or negativity. While not changing Five qualities in any form, the 1 vibration is the force responsible for these divisions, as it is with other birthdays. Five personalities having this vibration in other spheres of influence, particularly the birth month, express themselves positively, while those without this vibration invariably tend towards negative expression. The repetition of the 5 vibration in the birth month overloads the personality with 5 qualities. Such overloading of a single digit birthday is almost a guarantee of negativity as the personality is hardened in the qualities of that vibration and cannot adequately use openings that are found in other areas of influence. Insistence on personal freedom is an idiosyncrasy peculiar to all Fives. Whether the freedom they demand for themselves is used responsibly or irresponsibly depends on the degree of positivity or negativity in the personality structure.

A unique feature of the Five personality is the facility by which these individuals operate on all planes of expression. But herein lies what may be regarded as their strength as well as weakness, especially in relation to other personality types who are confined to set planes of expression. With opportunities for experience in the physical, emotional, mental and intuitive levels, the Five is motivated by kinetic qualities of alertness, movement, change, variety and speed. Not many partners can be found to match the fast moving lifestyle of a Five. The Twelve personality born on the 12th day will be among the few who would, but they would do so in their own style and on their own terms and not as cooperative or compliant partners.

The 1, 2 and 3 vibrations combine to form the integral personality of the Twelve. This is indeed a formidable combination of vibrations representing all planes of expression. The 1 vibration, among other things, provides willpower, initiative, leadership, individualism and orientation towards physical life and practical thinking. The receptive nature of the 2 polishes rough edges of the aggressive 1 by infusing genteel qualities of tact, patience, courtesy, sympathy and understanding as well as an outlet for emotional expression. The Twelve is basically a Three personality insofar as the 3 vibration operates at fundamental levels of the personality. As it is the outcome of the merge of the active 1 and receptive 2, it is the vibration of youth and springtime. With inherited features of its parentage as well as fresh features of its own, the 3 operates on the mental plane. Due to their intimate relationship there is no conflict between the three forces which interact within the Twelve personality. Thus, the Twelve may be regarded as a well-balanced individual. Any personality hang-ups can only have been introduced from the environment and not from the vibrations at birth. However, the Twelve’s strong individuality has the power to overcome any environmental conditioning. All Twelves are positive personalities in the sense that they stand on their own feet and lead self-directed lives. Negativity cannot take hold as the essential condition that ensures positivity is already present in the birthday in the form of the 1 vibration. Also, due to the even distribution of vibrations in the birthday, repetition of one in the birth month cannot lead to negativity. It may strengthen that particular vibration but the powers of the others will neutralise any over-emphasis. The youthful nature of the 3 vibration contributes qualities such as enthusiasm, optimism, imagination, versatility and a retentive memory. As the 1, 2 and 3 vibrations form the egocentric category, egocentricity will be the hallmark of all Twelves. It is openly expressed by the 1 and 3 aspects and in more subtle ways by the 2 aspect.

The free and easy individualism of the Five and the egocentric individualism of the Twelve are distinguished by greater objectivity and diminished egotism in the Five and subjective attitudes in the Twelve, resulting in a constant need to nurture their sensitive egos. Twelves think of others in relation to their own feelings, their prestige and self-image. Fives generally view others as a means by which they can obtain their pleasures and profit. This is not entirely a form of selfishness as they give as much as they take, although they do so strictly on their own terms. They are no different to their Twelve partners in this respect. The expectations of Fives and Twelves are comparatively similar, yet a cooperative effort in which they pool their resources may not be attempted. They are more likely to slide into a state of competition with each other. Their natural tendency is to measure others against themselves and in their zeal to be their own persons overlook mutual obligations and expect to receive more than they are prepared to give. Quick to spot any real or imaginary flaws or oversights in each other’s conduct, they usually make matters worse by pointing them out. As a result much time and energy is wasted in unproductive rivalry. A subordinate or supportive role will not be accepted by either. All Twelves insist on the position of authority and conscientiously fulfil the responsibilities they assume. Fives usually expect to be the decision makers and at the same time, enjoy personal freedom. For the most part, they expect others to follow up their decisions as they do not have the same sense of dedication as, for instance, a Twelve. A negative Five will have little or no sense of responsibility. An equitable distribution of authority will be difficult as the Twelve will be suspicious of the Five’s reliability and the Five, in turn, will be resentful of the Twelve’s uncompromising ways. Both take a complacent view of themselves and are inclined to turn away from self-study. Obstructions to domestic organisation and harmony are created not only by their noncooperative attitudes, but by the fact that both are career minded persons. They need a constant change of scene in their daily round plus challenges and competition that can only be found in public life. Their ambitions are not clouded by self-doubt or introverted tendencies but are motivated by a zest to keep moving forward into new forms of fulfilment. They are happiest when they take up challenges that fire their imagination and spirit of combat. They cannot settle into domestic duties which demand strict adherence to system, routine timetables, self-discipline and self-sacrifice. Despite their versatile nature, they will not give of their best in a domestic scene, as they will feel that they have been prevented from making their mark in world affairs.

All Fives and Twelves are extroverted people. Differences in temperament which may disrupt organised home life will not interfere in their social activity. The most that could happen when the two are present in the same room is competitive behaviour to hold the attention of an audience. A flair for showmanship is evident in both as neither is hampered by lack of self-expression. They are not types who allow themselves to be passed over or ignored in company. Both use charm and a general aura of friendliness and good humour to animate and enliven any social gathering. Twelves take a deeper interest in people and their continued friendship can be relied upon. The Five’s attention or sustained interest cannot be taken for granted. They may show considerable enthusiasm and make generous promises for future association but often fail to keep up with their intentions as enthusiasm fades when they are almost immediately drawn into other forms of activity. Their involved lifestyle often forces them into manipulating people and extricating themselves from situations. Twelves are more organised, punctual and reliable. Both are easily bored in circumstances that prevent them from exercising their sharp minds and even sharper tongues. They are never at a loss for words. Not often do they set their egos aside and listen to what others have to say. While anything that does not directly concern them is ignored, they do not hesitate to elaborate on personal matters. The Twelve especially, is fond of using clichés such as ‘That’s me’, or ‘That’s how I am’. Verbal duelling between these partners and with others will be frequent and often tempestuous. Both use their skills to talk their way out of situations rather than acknowledge a miscalculation or surrender an opinion however tenuous their opinions may be. Gracious when things go their way, they respond to obstacles and criticism by attack and defence instead of self-examination and possible compromise.

The best chances of collaborative action between these partners will be found during their holidays and other spare time activities. As adventuresome, imaginative, vibrant and versatile people, they are not restricted or divided in their capacity to enjoy their leisure hours. More than one main interest could be shared by them, especially in music, the performing arts, sport, travel, and a busy social round. For the most part, Fives and Twelves choose to live in the present and not have the past or future cloud their current pleasures. This undoubtedly enhances their enjoyment of non-working periods. Unless forced to do so, they will not be found spending annual leave periods attending to home improvements and continuing in normal local activities. The calls of the road and the outdoors will be too strong to resist. They will usually be found taking to the road on the first morning of their holidays.

Despite the fact that both partners have the energy, talents, and versatility to contribute earnings from more than one source, their financial position will need constant watching. This is a combination of two free spending people who are not attached to money as a form of security but use it only as a means to satisfy the demands of their diversified lifestyle. The Twelve is likely to play a more responsible role in the management of their finances. They are less likely to fall into debt as their willpower to resist temptation is stronger than the Five. With the Twelve in charge, there is a better chance of money being put aside for specific purposes. Fives seldom use a system of priority in the disposal of their monies. They delight in taking chances in life and are prepared to live with the consequences. Many Fives could expose a partnership’s finances to the uncertainties of games of chance.

The Twelve’s thoughts, which are generally anchored on themselves, are transferred to another when they fall in love. When this happens, everything in the world is viewed in relation to the loved one and no longer in relation to themselves. When the loved one happens to be a Five personality, the Twelve could be courting disillusionment due to the Five’s love of personal freedom. Many of the Twelve’s possessive attitudes will be rejected by the free-born Five. Fives enjoy the thrill of the chase and pleasures of conquest as much as the Twelve but they do not seek subsequent possession of their conquest. The pleasures of surrender enjoyed by subjects of passive vibrations do not form any part of the overall nature of either party. This is not a combination in which the fusion of polarised forces creates a closely interlocked relationship. Instead, both partners initiate and vigorously keep their love life alive and imaginative. Independence, equality, and emancipated behaviour will form the basis of their relationship. While these conditions will be natural to the broadminded Five, the Twelve may take a little longer to accept them.

All Twelves and positive Fives would be able to work out a relationship on an equal basis. Attempts to form a stable relationship between a Twelve and a negative Five will be fraught with many problems created mainly by irresponsibility on the part of the Five.

5TH AND 13TH BIRTHDAYS

People with single digit birthdays are invariably positioned on an equal footing as regards concentration of personality traits. They express themselves principally through the major channel of their birthday vibration, aided by subsidiary channels in the birth month and birth year. But in combination with a single digit birthday and a multiple digit birthday the individual with the single digit is matched with a partner with three major channels in addition to those that are subsidiary, which provides the latter with a multiplicity of personality traits and talents. In the present combination it may appear that the Thirteen is born with definite advantages over the Five. While this may not always be true it does apply to a large extent when a comparison is made between Fives and Thirteens.

Unless adverse environmental conditions have temporarily held them back, all Thirteens are positive people in the sense that their lives are self-directed. They are leaders and not followers. They are also strong enough to eventually overcome any negative tendencies acquired from their upbringing. The vibration that ensures positive thought and action is symbolised by the number 1. The Thirteen is gifted with this vibration. Not all Fives may be regarded as definitely positive personalities. They depend on the birth month as the best alternative to provide the 1 vibration in order to express 5 qualities in the best positive ways. Other areas of influence can also help but the influence of the 1 vibration will not be as effective as it is from the birth month. While Thirteens are found only in a positive category, Fives may be found in positive, negative or intermediate conditions, depending on the position and strength of the 1 vibration, or its absence altogether. It should be remembered that the number 1 in the birth year gives very little help. Fives born on the 5th month fall well into the negative category due to the overloading of 5 qualities and shutting out of other features in the two major parts of the birth date that form the personality structure.

Odd numbers or active vibrations predominate in a 5th and 13th birthday combination. The Thirteen, however is a qualified Four personality. The 1 and 3 vibrations, while not diminishing 4 qualities, play an active role in the outer personality of the Thirteen. There are too many similarities between the 1, 3 and 5 vibrations to create a magnetic pull that takes place between opposite polarities. Despite the basic 4 vibrations similarities in temperament between Fives and Thirteens are certain to lead to confrontation and rivalry rather than cooperation and reconciliation. Regardless of the degree of positivity or negativity in them, the nature of the Five personality is such that it is not conducive to unified and interdependent relationships. Personal freedom is the very essence of the Five’s personality structure, and this will not be surrendered in any circumstances. Many Fives delay entering into a binding relationship for fear of losing their independence. At the same time younger Fives, in order to free themselves from parental control and their own impulsive ways, may rush blindly into early marriage or relationships that seldom last. Fives are not possessive people and resent possessive partners. The mission of the Five is to experience life at all levels of consciousness. They are driven by a keen sense of curiosity and aided by acute powers of observation. These assets are strengthened by the 5 vibration’s natural tendency to spread its energy throughout all planes of expression. Although essentially an emotional force it has ready access to the physical, mental and intuitive realms. Its multi-dimensional nature, while giving the Five personality several advantages, is not without a share of disadvantages. Five personalities possess a versatile, restless, changeable and unpredictable temperament that cannot willingly abide by timetables, rules and codes of conduct set by others. Their alert, daring and courageous mentality is ever prepared to try anything new or progressive. Loss of patience, tolerance, concentration, dependability, self-discipline, tranquillity and system are some of the consequences of the quick turn-over of experiences in their lifestyle.

The Thirteenth day provides a combination of such tremendous mental and physical energy that all Thirteen personalities are able to match almost all the positive qualities of the Five plus much more. The I and 3 vibrations interacting in harmony give leadership, initiative, decision, individuality, ambition, creativity, enthusiasm, willpower, memory and concentration. The 4 is a safeguard against any excess or extreme behaviour as it provides self-discipline and a practical down-to-earth approach to life. It helps Thirteens go about their business with their minds set fast upon the job at hand. Another unique feature in the Thirteen is the ability to make use of a powerful and constructive imagination and convert their mental creations into physical form. While the 1 and 3 vibrations are responsible for the former talent the underlying 4 is responsible for the latter.

The fundamental difference between Five and Thirteen personalities is found in their respective powers of concentration. Although the Five’s awareness is widespread and impressive they do not possess the depth of attention and steadfastness that a Thirteen gives to a task. They can be distracted and consequently leave many things undone or disorganised. Emotion is another distinguishing feature. Thirteens cannot adequately reciprocate the Five’s visible display of emotion as their birthday vibrations do not provide for expression through the emotional plane. Outlets available in secondary areas of influence are never as strong as those in the birthday. The Five’s emotionalism could be put to constructive or destructive use depending on the degree of positivity or negativity in a particular Five.

Due to the non-aggressive and non-competitive nature of receptive vibrations, cooperative, harmonious and comfortable relationships are usually formed between couples with even numbered birthdays. A couple with odd numbered birthdays often takes an opposite course. Over all other considerations they retain consciousness of their individuality and the need for freedom to express themselves without submission or interference. As the 1, 3 and 5 vibrations exercise a commanding influence on the 5th and 13th birthdays, Five and Thirteen partners will be inclined to demand their own ways of doing things. Personality adjustments required in the course of a relationship will not be seen as a mutual necessity. The similarities of their independent natures are brought into focus in the distribution of authority and responsibility, especially in domestic matters. Fives will resort to all sorts of strategies to have the Thirteens conform to their ways and will invariably fail. Thirteens will try direct command which will be rejected or ignored. Unless a clear division of responsibility is made they will be constantly stepping on each other’s toes. Both will insist on having a say in everything. Thirteens usually follow up their ideas and decisions but Fives cannot always be relied upon to do so. If a choice is available both partners will opt to pursue a career in public life instead of a full-time career as a homemaker. While domestic tendencies are present at fundamental levels in the Thirteen by virtue of their 4 vibration they are found at a bare minimum in the Five. The Thirteen’s share of domestic duties will be performed with greater willingness and system and the Five’s with a lack of system. Both partners feel cut away from the melodrama of the outer world and deprived of making a useful contribution to public life if they are confined to full-time domesticity.

A busy and varied social life will be an essential part of this extroverted couple’s lifestyle. They have the capacity to engage in various roles in social activity. To begin with they do not feel the need to identify with individuals or groups in order to enhance their self-image. The position they take is neither defensive, apologetic nor escapist. They are natural entertainers who delight in holding the centre of attention. Competition between them to gain the spotlight will be constant, unless they give each other plenty of room. Both are full of opinions and often critical in their judgments. While Thirteens usually practice what they preach Fives often leave a gulf between precept and practice. Both are gifted with an easy flow of language as the numbers 3 and 5 symbolise the strongest speech vibrations. Words are their most powerful weapon. Fluency of speech along with speed of thought makes these individuals formidable contestants in debate and argument. On the offensive, Thirteens could be cutting and ruthless in their accuracy in handling of facts and figures, and in the correct use of words and phrases. Fives could be ambiguous, evasive and circuitous. They cannot be made to give direct answers. Thirteens take up an authoritative stance and use a minimum of body language while Five’s use a combative attitude and expressive body language. The Five’s outspoken opinions may result in verbal duelling, but they do not take offence easily, nor do they nurse animosity. Their good sense of humour comes to their rescue on most occasions. However, they may unintentionally hurt more sensitive people as they do not always monitor their speech. Thirteens need to maintain space between themselves and others. Fives need much less and often use touching as a powerful medium of communication. By this means they create a feeling of intimacy and acquiescence and obtain more for themselves than do emotionally restrained Thirteens.

Thirteens find specialisation easy in their line of work as well as in their choice of spare time activity. The influence of the stable 1 and 4 vibrations prevents them from being pulled away into a new direction before they have had time to enjoy whatever hobby they have taken up. Having creative energies of truly versatile people there not many outlets in the mental and physical realms that are closed to them. While providing mental and physical stimulation many of their hobbies can be turned into money making or money saving ventures. Fives usually take up hobbies that offer stimulation of the physical senses. They are adventurers at heart who prefer the outdoors to creative work. Having a great deal of physical courage, quick reflexes, restless and alert minds they are drawn into activities that present challenges, competition and elements of danger and uncertainty. Not many Fives can resist games of chance.

The ability to handle money wisely is not in equal proportion in this relationship. Both partners are self-indulgent in their own way and do not suffer anxiety over their financial position. Their methods of handling money are indicative of their different temperaments. The Thirteen conducts financial matters with a better sense of balance and responsibility. On the one hand the influence of the 3 vibration keeps them up-to-date in their tastes creating generous spending habits. On the other hand irresponsible spending is controlled by the strictly value conscious 1 and 4 vibrations. While the pleasure derived from their purchases is foremost in their 3 aspect, profit, value and utility become the prime considerations of their 1 and 4 aspects. Thirteens do not surrender to impulsive urges. Fives on the other hand are spontaneous spenders who rarely count the cost, and usually surrender to many emotion-backed demands. Their expenses are high as their wants are many. Unlike the Thirteen they do not exercise deliberate delay and close scrutiny before making a purchase. They live in the present in the firm belief that the future looks after itself. The Thirteen’s efforts to budget may be frustrated by the Five’s lack of interest. However, the Thirteen will eventually exercise control over the partnership’s finances.

These partners can enrich their intimate relations only to the degree that they abandon self-interest and begin to identify with each other’s needs and feelings. This should not be too difficult as the basis from which they can work is their compatibility as sexual partners. The only difference will be seen in their method of approach. Fives are naturally impulsive and free from inhibitions. The charms of the opposite sex are irresistible, and partners who cannot keep up with their spontaneous demands will face constant competition. Thirteens are a mixture of romance and conservatism. They possess the physical energy to match, and in many instances outmatch the Five. Although not demonstrative people, they are discreet and loyal partners, and always courteous and respectful of the opposite sex. The best chances of a successful relationship between this match will be when the Five partner is born in the 1st, 10th, 11th or 12th months. These will be positive personalities who will assume their share of responsibility to the satisfaction of the Thirteen.

5TH AND 14TH BIRTHDAYS

Anyone born on the 5th day serves as a model Five personality. Other spheres of influence which contribute to the complete personality structure do not change essential 5 qualities. However, those whose birthdays are the 14th and 23rd, and who are also Five personalities, cannot be portrayed as laving authentic Five characteristics. These Fives are differently cast due to the multiform nature of the 14th and 23rd which introduces several additional features into the personality structure. The 5 vibration, ruled by the planet Mercury, is an aggressive, restless, volatile, uncertain and mercurial force. When it constitutes the only creative force in the birthday, as in the 5th day, other spheres of influence, while not changing 5 qualities, are relied upon to provide vibrations that could, to some degree, harness, direct and stabilise these energies. When adequate safeguards are present the Five personality acts as a powerful force for progress and development of human resources. Negative features of the 5 vibration come to light when this support is not found. The loss of self-discipline, a sense of direction and a sense of purpose are some of the main problems that appear. The best defence against negative expression is the presence in the birth month of the purposeful 1 vibration. Having this vibration in other points of influence also helps, but not with the certainty or in the same degree of power as in the birth month. An instance when negative trends are unavoidable will be a case of a Five personality born in the 5th month. Converting these Fives to positive ways will always present problems. Overloading of 5 qualities which causes hyperactivity is too strong to allow counteracting vibrations from other spheres of influence to calm the personality.

While uniform Fives may fall into various degrees of positivity or negativity the multiform Fourteen/Five is always a positive personality. The 1 vibration alone provides all that is needed for positive expression, but when it interacts with the 4 vibration, as it does in the 14th day, normal 1 characteristics are expanded and strengthened. Many features that are uncharacteristic of the basic 5 vibration are built into the Fourteen’s personality structure. Some combined 1 and 4 features are self-discipline, steadfastness, responsibility, dependability concentration, deliberation, inflexibility, physical strength, good health, a down-to-earth approach to life and willingness to work hard to achieve their ambitions. There are also many features the 1 vibration has in common with the basic 5, such as initiative, leadership, decision, drive, ambition, competitiveness and extroversion. In addition to many practical attributes manual dexterity is the best contribution made by the 4. The vitalising force of the basic 5, the influence of the stabilising powers of the 1 and 4 creates an integral personality of considerable power. The Fourteen is grounded, for the most part, on the physical plane. The straight Five personality, on the other hand, is emotionally oriented. However, from the centre point of the emotional plane the power of the 5 vibration is spread over the physical, mental and intuitive planes. This endows the Five personality with qualities of alertness, flexibility, adaptability and the opportunity to partake of life’s experiences at all levels of consciousness. At the same time the direct result of such functioning at multiple levels is the loss of concentration, indifference to permanency and difficulty in specialisation. The urge to keep changing is often too forceful to resist.

The Fourteen undoubtedly has many advantages over the plain Five due to the reinforced structure of the 14th day. As strength of purpose is the chief distinguishing feature the Fourteen will at an early stage assume a more responsible role in this relationship. This partner would expect to consolidate their material affairs as soon as possible and work towards a firm foundation for the future. The Five, on the other hand, will be in no hurry to face up to practical realities, as present physical pleasures will always take precedence over concern for the future. Being fearless and optimistic people their general philosophy is to promptly forget the past, live in the present and believe that the future will look after itself. As opposed to this philosophy, Fourteens are traditionalists who are attached to the past, realistic about the present and watchful of the future. Fives usually act from a shifting position or as the spirit moves them, but any form of impulsive behaviour is out of character with the Fourteen. Acting for the most part from an entrenched position they are well in charge of themselves. Realising the Five’s indifference to routine, timetables and a systematic arrangement of their lifestyle, they will instinctively assume control of the partnership and set about establishing a hierarchy of values and plans and a system by which they can be achieved. A Five has a much better chance of success in a relationship with a Fourteen rather than with a Twenty-Three or another Five. Fourteens have also an ingrained capacity to act as guardians and protectors. They set high standards and give family members their unstinted support to reach these standards. Though hardworking, and duty conscious in all domestic affairs they are reluctant to depend on a partner for financial support. They may soon discover that a Five partner is not the most reliable when it comes to providing regular income. Most Fourteens would prefer the dual task of breadwinner and homemaker to living in the shadow of a Five partner. Fives can never give full expression of themselves in a domestic scene. They cannot adjust to the regularity and discipline of domestic responsibilities because the excitement, movement and challenges of public life hold irresistible attractions. With a Five as the breadwinner the partnership’s main source of income will seldom remain the same. Whether in business or employment their time in one position is usually short due to their persistent search for novelty and progress. While betterment of their fortunes is always their aim the changes they make may not always return the increased income they expect or the security expected by the Fourteen.

With flexible and cosmopolitan social attitudes Fives are at ease with all types of people and conditions. Not only are they able to change their personality from one situation to another but they often turn situations to their advantage. Compared with their Five partners, Fourteens prefer to integrate into the established social order and follow the mores of the community rather than identify with unfamiliar cultures. With respectability as their social aim they are conscious of their position in society and are sensitive to private and public opinion. While showing respect and regard to others they demand the same in return. Their self-esteem is easily wounded by disrespectful and insolent behaviour directed at them. Fives have an easy-going and less personally focused temperament that is not overawed by the Fourteen’ sense of propriety. They place new experiences ahead of any concern for a good public image and are consequently much less vulnerable. In all their dealings, social or otherwise, Fourteens are accustomed to playing by the rules. Honesty is more important than tact, diplomacy or expediency. Fives, in contrast, are willing whenever the occasion demands, to relax or circumvent normal codes of conduct. This may disturb the Fourteen’s ideas of proper behaviour but will also prevent them from falling into fixed ways of doing things. A clear indication of the openness of the Five’s personality and the watchful nature of the Fourteen is seen in their different methods of oral expression. The number 5 symbolises one of the few fluent and forceful speech vibrations. When it is found in an unrestrained state, as it is in the plain Five personality, it could be used positively as this individual’s most powerful means of offence and defence, or negatively wasted as a scattering and unproductive force. Used either way, Fives seldom measure or censor their thoughts but instead, carried on a tide of emotion, they speak out the moment a thought occurs. As thoughts occur in the minds of the Five with a tremendous rush their speech is equally rapid. The speech of the Fourteen is slowed down considerably by their deliberate and measured thought processes and the emotional restraint of the 1 and 4 vibrations. Basically, the difference between these partners will be seen in the Five’s habit of talking a great deal before performing and the Fourteen’s preference to perform before they speak at all, and to delay speaking or acting when they are emotionally upset. Fives need to speak as well as act in order to release pent-up emotion. The Fourteen’s promises can be relied upon as they are made with forethought. Yet, not all the Five’s promises can be taken for granted as Fives tend to be carried away and often make commitments they are unable to keep. Communication between these partners may be restricted by the Fourteen’s reluctance to discuss emotionally charged issues and their distaste of the Five’s demonstrative body language. While the Fourteen’s arguments are direct, factual and precise, the Five’s responses are full of words. Both consciously and unconsciously, they side-step and side-track, seldom keeping to the point of discussion.

Practical Fourteens place much greater value upon their time during working hours as well as during leisure periods. Hobbies they take up are often of a sort that save money or make money. They are genuine ‘do-it-yourself’ people who never admit a practical task has beaten them, nor will they postpone repairs and maintenance in and around the home in favour of purely pleasurable activity. All other matters go unnoticed when their minds are set upon whatever task they have commenced. The constructive and productive mentality of the Fourteen aided by considerable powers of concentration is not present in the fluid mind of the Five. Their mental processes are investigative, speculative and adventuresome. Consequently, Fives are in a constant search for new experiences. As the environment of the home seldom provides the excitement they look for in their leisure time they turn to a variety of outdoor activities Their natural tendency is to try anything new and not feel the need to account for the time and money spent on their pastimes. Fourteens are also outdoor people who can match the Five in any sort of daring adventure, but this will be done only after household cares have been attended to. Their continuing tale of woe is likely to be the Five’s disappearance when help is needed.

The Five’s frequent unavailability for routine tasks may cause some problems but these will not be as disruptive as those that may arise in the financial affairs of the partnership. Fives are people who do not cling to material possessions, and least of all to money. Money and goods only serve as a means to an end, the end being experience and enjoyment of all facets of living. As a result, they become free spenders who do not count the cost when it concerns their pleasures. The financial position of the partnership will be uncertain and unstable if the Five is in control of the finances. Fourteens are money conscious and security conscious people who avoid all wasteful habits and risky ventures. The material wellbeing of the partnership will be kept on a firm footing if the Fourteen is in overall charge of the finances.

Sexual compatibility is certain as the highly sexed 1, 4 and 5 vibrations govern the partnership. However, certain personality differences need to be understood before a real understanding is achieved. The Five’s loyalty and love are not conditioned by an imposition of values and codes of conduct. Despite considerable personal warmth their love of freedom precludes an interdependent and inseparable relationship. A partner may easily develop intimacy with a Five but should not expect to possess them or receive their undivided attention as Fives do not feel the need to devote themselves exclusively to a partner or give an account of their activities. Matters could be made difficult by their tendency to desert their own sex for the company of the opposite sex. This irresistible urge will certainly inflict pressures upon a possessive partner. While open-minded Fives do not always abide by conventional and conservative codes of conduct, Fourteens insist on playing by the rules, especially in fulfilling their role obligations. With much less emotional impulsion their behaviour is less variable and hence more conformist and predictable. While the Five enjoys melodrama and demonstration of emotion, and has no objection to doing so in the presence of others, Fourteens withdraw from any public display of intimacy and expression of sentiment. What a Fourteen may consider appropriate closeness and affectionate behaviour may be too distant and restrained for the uninhibited Five.

Positive Fives, especially those born in the 1st, 10th, 11th, and 12th months have the best chances of success in a relationship with a Fourteen. Fives who are on a negative course will not be tolerated for long by a Fourteen.

5TH AND 15TH BIRTHDAYS

While compatibility in a relationship is dependent upon a harmonious combination of numbers, positive attitudes by both partners are also needed to ensure lasting success. Not all numbers or vibrations combine harmoniously and in the event of a combination of birthdays with vibrations that are not quite complementary, a positive approach to life takes on an increased importance. Positive partners will be free to make independent contributions without the responsibility of a dependent or irresponsible negative companion. In a combination in which negativity is predominant in one or the other, or in both, the partnership faces an uphill task to keep united. The indicator of the degree of positivity or negativity in an individual is the possession of the creative 1 vibration in a position of strength. As the vibrations of the birthday create the basic personality, and those of the birth month carry a significant influence on the formation of the personality, these are the most desirable positions. Other spheres of influence are also helpful but not with certainty or in the same degree of power. Positive personality traits introduced by this vibration are principally, self-confidence, initiative, self-determination, leadership and decision.

People born on the 5th day are charged with the full force of the dynamic, energetic and restless 5 vibration. Unless this volatile energy is mobilised and set to work along constructive lines, the chances are that it will be externalised as a scattering force that tosses the individual in all directions. The only vibration that is strong enough to keep the 5 in harness, or on the straight and narrow as it were, is the 1. When the 1 is found in the birth month, its directing force creates a positive Five personality of unlimited potential expansion into the physical, emotional, mental and intuitional spheres of expression. The multiple directions taken up by the outgoing nature of this vibration is not conducive to a settled, defined or uniform lifestyle or a subordinate and dependent position that could restrict free movement. Nor are they consistent with a cooperative or closely interrelated union. Desire for personal freedom is the Five’s motivating force and so they cannot submit or commit themselves to role obligations or a firm set of rules. The best that can be expected of them is a loose-knit relationship that is free from bonds of restraint and possessiveness. The more positive is the Five, the better the chances of maintaining this form of relationship. Negative Fives who do not have the orientation and stability of the 1 vibration experience a real struggle settling into a long-term relationship, even if it is unfettered, when the overpowering desire for change takes hold of them. Attempts by a conservative partner to change or reform a Five, whether positive or negative, usually ends in frustration and failure. But Fives usually forestall their partners, and others, and use their persuasive powers to organise their environment to fit into their own scheme of things.

When the 1 vibration is a component part of a multiple digit birthday, as it is in the 15th day, the personality, as a whole, is galvanised into functioning at near optimum levels of the birthday vibrations. Without question, all those born on the 15th day are positive people, capable not only of standing on their own feet, but also of contributing their share to the partnership and the community. They are basically Six personalities but not pure Sixes, as their personality structure is reinforced by the 1 and 5 vibrations which relegate many normal 6 qualities to the background. This is understandable as these are aggressive and active forces that easily displace receptive vibrations. Although many 6 qualities still remain in the background, the Fifteen many be regarded as one ruled by active rather than receptive or passive vibrations and therefore of the same polarity as the Five. As a consequence, both inherit the same independent, individualistic and emancipated temperaments which could easily lock horns on many issues. The Fifteen has many advantages over the plain Five as the 1 vibration stabilises them on the physical plane and the 6 introduces rational and logical thought processes. Both vibrations also ensure that emotional expression is used advantageously and not as a detrimental force. The Fifteen personality thinks and acts, by and large, from a fixed and emotionally restrained position with a steady eye on the future. The Five on the other hand, functions from a shifting or changing position, often adapting a ‘now or never’ policy. The present is much more vital to them than the past or future.

The leadership issue will be contested early in this relationship and will only be settled by strictly defined boundaries and when common characteristics such as competitiveness, aggressiveness and the desire to dominate are turned away from each other and instead directed into public life. A clear division of responsibility may not always prevent the conscientious Fifteen from having doubts over the casual Five’s ways of doing things. Fifteens are less inclined to think about their rights and pay more attention to their duties while many Fives pay more attention to their personal desires and less to their role obligations. One source of conflict will be the Five’s desire to act as soon as an idea occurs and the Fifteen’s need to think things over. Fives are always full of ideas, many of which will be promptly ruled out by the Fifteen as unworkable. Fives are also attracted to almost everything but cannot be held down for long by any single interest, not even their home environment. Domesticity does not appeal to them due to their constant search for new experiences. They resent being tied down to routine duties, timetables and the general regularity of an orderly home. A Five who is obliged to do so will not measure up to the standards expected by a Fifteen provider. The same cannot be said of the Fifteen as strong domestic attachments are built into their personality structure by the 6 vibration. While the characteristics of their outer personality can match or outmatch the Five’s enthusiasm and energy for experiencing external activity, there is an underlying harmony in their inner personality which needs to fall back and enjoy a peaceful and secure domestic scene. They are also natural guardians, caretakers, parents and supporters. With these dual advantages the Fifteen can discharge responsibilities as a breadwinner as well as a homemaker with equal efficiency. However, in a full-time role as a homemaker, they may suffer much the same restlessness as a Five.

As extroverted vibrations control their behaviours, both partners are good mixers who tune into the rhythm of people around them, and do not only put others at ease, but also extract the best of situations they are in. They are not victims of fashion nor do they identify themselves with group standards but instead act according to their own conceptions of conformity. Fives, in particular, are unconventional and cosmopolitan in their outlook and enjoy making their own rules and doing something different. They may expose themselves to tricky situations at times but this will not embarrass them as they are past masters at extricating themselves from such situations. However, this will certainly worry their disciplined Fifteen partners who possess many conservative traits. They are certain to act as a foil for any unusual conduct their Five partners may indulge in. Despite the open ways of one and the cautious attitudes of the other, these partners will choose to stay together in social activity. As association with the same people will be irksome to both, their social circle will embrace all types and age groups. The balanced and disciplined temperament of the Fifteen and the flexible and changeable nature of the Five is also revealed through the spoken word. Both are gifted with fluency of speech but Fifteens rely on logic and facts and therefore measure their words carefully. They confine themselves to subjects in which they have acquired a measure of expertise. Fives usually possess considerable general knowledge but often little specialisation. Nevertheless, they will not resist the temptation to talk on matters they are not too familiar with as the urge to participate in any activity, including conversation, is too strong to resist. Using demonstrative body language they relish dramatising situations, much to the annoyance of the Fifteen who chooses to bring an argument or discussion to a speedy conclusion with the minimum of fuss. Both partners may interrupt each other frequently – the Five when they want to elaborate on some precise remark made by the Fifteen, or the Fifteen to curtail a lengthy dissertation by the Five. The nature of both is to give advice though both resent taking advice. They have the capacity, however, to step back and enjoy laughter and even quarrel and argue without a residue of bitterness.

Although both partners have independent natures and do not necessarily rely on each other’s company, they are very likely to keep together during their leisure time, as they do in social life. As open air activities are more in character than indoor pastimes, holidays will invariably be spent away from home and off the beaten track. Having quick reflexes, a keen spirit of adventure and considerable physical courage, neither will back away from any new experience that offers an element of risk or danger or novelty. As their competitive spirit is also alive and active, a mutual interest can develop in all competitive sport. Left on their own, the Five’s impetuosity may result in a high incidence of accidents or other problems, but protected by the influence of the cautious Fifteen, such incidents will be kept at a minimum. This may be a real help in the event of a Five partner taking up gambling as a sport and overdoing it. The 5 vibration in its free state gives a strong propensity towards all games of chance.

The reasonable caution shown by the Fifteen in all aspects of life will not be excluded from their financial affairs while fearlessness shown by the Five in all matters is also shown in their attitude towards money. While Fifteens can never be reproached for meanness, fear of debt encourages them to cultivate responsible spending habits and follow carefully planned goals. In the case of the Five, money escapes from their hands with much greater speed and is spread over a wider array of inducements. Borrowing money does not worry them as their optimistic and often sportive attitudes prevent anxiety over money from colouring the quality of their life. But this attitude will not be shared by a Fifteen and money matters may often be the cause of conflict. This can best be avoided if the Fifteen takes charge of the finances.

A Fifteen who sees a lack of balance in a Five partner may show a tendency to feel superior. Any suspected negative feature, real or imagined, should not be emphasised, for by doing so, they may be further cherished by the Five. Instead, by highlighting positive aspects of their character, positivity in their personality as a whole can be fostered. Fives cannot be changed except by these subtle means. In love and courtship, neither partner likes to be pursued, so both need to do the pursuing. This is a natural tendency with active personalities. Their sex life will be compatible but the Fifteen will insist on the use of discretion and privacy in lovemaking. The free flow of emotion in the Five and the restricted emotions of the Fifteen will soon become evident. The 5 vibration creates a strong sensual attraction towards the opposite sex. If this vibration is not qualified by moderating forces, the individual is exposed to many temptations. The Fifteen has safeguards against any inordinate inducements, but the Five partner will be exposed to many irresistible attractions.

5TH AND 16TH BIRTHDAYS

The dual functions of forming the basic personality and providing outlets for self-expression are performed by the vibrations of the birthday. While the personality of someone with a single digit birthday is formed and operates through one major vibratory force, another with a multiple digit birthday has three major components and outlets for self-expression. A multiple digit birthday could therefore provide many advantages over a single digit birthday, especially when it is composed of vibrations that give strength and balance to the personality.

In a birthday such as the 5th, personality traits of the 5 vibration are concentrated and people born on this day reveal themselves as unmistakable Five personalities. The complex personality structure of the 16th day calls for close observation of the major facets of the Sixteen personality before they can be properly identified. In both cases the numbers of the birth month and birth year provide secondary influences and outlets. These are certainly needed more by the Five than the Sixteen. There are instances when vibrations of the birthday are repeated in the month and year such as the 5.5.1950. This type of repetition leads to a negative turn of expression due to overloading of one vibration on the one hand and the absence of other facets on the other hand. The contributions of the birth month and year may therefore have positive or negative effects upon a Five personality. The 5 vibration happens to be one of the most active, vibrant and aggressive forces radiating from the centre of the emotional plane and implanting qualities such as nervous energy, enthusiasm, speed, versatility, curiosity, alertness, adventure and love of freedom. It is also one of the most unmanageable, disorderly and changeable forces which ebb and flow through all planes of expression. Concentration or attention to one person, place or thing for any length of time is beyond most Fives. Whatever is said of a Five personality at any given time, the opposite can also be said at some other time. As the physical, emotional, mental and intuitive planes are all accessible to them, they can undergo personality changes both consciously and unconsciously better than any other personality type. In their interaction with others these changes can be attractive as well as distractive. Stable vibrations are desirable to slow down and redirect their irrepressible energies into constructive and productive paths. The only vibration that could successfully counteract their whirlwind nature and introduce self-discipline, self-direction, a sense of purpose and constructive use of freedom is the self-directing 1 vibration. Fives born in the 1st, 10th, 11th or 12th months possess this built-in safeguard and are therefore positive individuals with magnetic and dominant personalities who not only have control over their own lives but seek to take charge of the lives of those near to them. Fives born in other months are exposed in varying degrees to negative features of the 5 vibration such as abuse of freedom, change for change’s sake, over-impulsiveness, hyperactivity, irresponsibility, and over-emphasis of sensual pleasures. The 1 vibration found in other areas of influence certainly help but not with the same degree of power as the birth month.

With the 1 vibration as one of its components, the 16th day produces a positive personality with qualities of leadership, decision, self-confidence, initiative, and above all a sense of purpose and a sense of direction. The 6 and 7 vibrations left on their own are inclined towards melancholy and self-deprecation at times, but the 1 prevents such negative tendencies. At the same time plain 1 qualities such as egotism, self-centredness and inflexibility are neutralised by the 6 and 7 and the best positive qualities of the 1 are emphasised. The family and love oriented nature of the 6 and the introspection of the underlying 7 account for this change. The Sixteen personality, all in all, has the self-assurance of the physically oriented 1, the balanced thought processes of the mental 6 and the intuitive, analytical and practical powers of the 7. What they do not have is the emotional expression which is so much an integral part of the Five’s personality structure. Although three vibrations interact within the Sixteen, their powers of concentration are not reduced. Rather, they are enhanced as the 1, 6 and 7 vibrations do not pull away from each other but combine to centralise thought and action.

Fives and Sixteens are not exactly on the same wavelength and are not likely to be attracted to each other on the basis of similarities in temperament. Qualities in which they differ exceed by far anything that could be seen as a common feature. Speed and spontaneity which vitalise the Five can never be changed. Whether the Five functions in a positive, negative or in an intermediate state, they will find themselves at loggerheads with the composed and deliberate manner natural to the Sixteen. Unlike the Five, the Sixteen does not change character from one situation to another. For the most part Fives are stimulated by the senses and the Sixteen by the intellect, but this does not mean that intellectuality is wanting in the former or sensuality in the latter. It is purely a matter of emphasis and depth. Most Fives live in an external world as extroverts, enjoying physical and sensual aspects of life. Sixteens also live in an external world but not to the exclusion of non-physical or spiritual aspects of life. They look for some form of spiritual guidance and fulfilment. They may alternate between extroversion and a positive form of introversion in the sense that they can retreat into themselves and enjoy periods of introspection. They are in a better position to take responsibility for their own wellbeing, but Fives are for the most part dependent on external forces which they do not hesitate to harness and manipulate for their own purposes. Fives respond to a much wider range of physical and emotional inducements. Sensationalism, melodrama, excitement, shocks and thrills, conditions which disturb the Sixteen’s sense of balance, are normal and necessary for the Five’s progression.

Both partners will strive for the position of leader and decision maker, but both will do so for reasons other than pride or authority. Fives are adept at planning strategies whereby the least portion of domestic responsibility falls to their lot. Their aim is to release themselves from routine and regularity so as to remain free to engage in their own devices. They do not feel guilty when their partners perform duties they are not willing to undertake. But this will not prevent them from having a say in how things should be managed. These attitudes are inevitable as Fives do not belong in a domestic scene but to the hurly-burly of public life. With a Sixteen partner they need not extend themselves too much to devise means to escape domestic duties as the Sixteen is likely to voluntarily take over a greater share. They are not people who would expect their partners, particularly a Five who they may consider inconsistent, to do anything they could not do themselves. Their orderly minds prefer to do things in their leisurely yet precise ways. They are well equipped for domestic life as family pride is a strong element of the 1 vibration, domestic comfort and harmony are the principal qualities of the 6, and the 7 aspect chooses the home as a retreat from the tension and turmoil of public life. They are usually model parents who experience family life in all its fullness. While the Five belongs almost exclusively to public life, Sixteens can take up the dual role of provider and homemaker, or alternate between the two. Fives could turn to any type of work as long as it is not of a routine nature, but Sixteens have the potential for specialisation, especially in money management. Although the Sixteen may undertake the greater portion of domestic duties, the Five’s ability to handle emergencies with speed and decision should not be disregarded.

Their social life will see a change of positions. The extroverted Five, who revels in the centre of activity and an admiring audience, will play a more prominent role. While Fives are always the participants in every activity Sixteens may choose to alternate between participation and observation, with a slight emphasis on the latter. Their energies are reserved for mental stimulation rather than physical activity. Fives may have many acquaintances and few intimates while Sixteens may have few acquaintances and even fewer intimates. Fives make instant acquaintance with people but Sixteens take time to warm up to strangers. Much of the Five’s social activity will be away from home but the focal point of the Sixteen’s social life will be the home. Entertainment away from home may often end up in argument when the Sixteen suggests the moment to leave and finds that the Five is still into the thick of things. Sixteens cannot enjoy themselves for long in an environment other than their home, but Fives feel at home wherever they are enjoying themselves. Arguments between these partners on other issues as well will be fairly frequent. Fives are likely to be the initiators as they delight in argument. They are extremely fluent talkers who do not hesitate to verbalise all their thoughts, and using expressive body language, they habitually dramatise situations. Ordinary discussions could easily flare up into heated arguments. Sixteens are usually unflappable people who are non-committal and cautious about revealing their thoughts and feelings. They examine the pros and cons of an issue carefully before speaking out in an unhurried voice devoid of emotional body language. They expect differences to be discussed coolly and rationally. The Five’s inflamed arguments have no effect on them. They are more sensitive to right and wrong and do not let any irrational or self-seeking remark go unchallenged. Both partners are happier asking questions than answering them, and giving advice than following advice.

Both Five personalities feel that their leisure time is their own. In a partnership with a Sixteen this will not be challenged as Sixteens themselves are likely to engage in special hobbies that may not interest the Five. In character with their general dispositions, Fives choose outdoor physical activities that offer competition, elements of risk, danger and physical adventure. Bodily exertion, discomfort and pain could intensify their competitive and enterprising spirit rather than discourage them. Whatever direction they take, one factor remains constant and that is their need to have as much variety as possible in their lives. Sixteens are more likely to participate in literary, musical and religious activities in addition to home-oriented hobbies, such as cooking and gardening. They feel comfortable in familiar surroundings and experience their adventures in mental and spiritual realms. Unlike their outgoing Five partners, they use their leisure time to escape from the hustle and bustle of crowded places. Fives are often reluctant to subordinate or sacrifice personal interests for the good of the family, but the Sixteen’s first priority will always be family welfare.

Although Fives and Sixteens are not entirely compatible partners, they can work out compromises. However, real success can only be achieved when the Sixteen holds the purse strings. Fives are indifferent money managers. They concentrate on immediate goals with no thought for distant objectives. They spend freely as they have no attachment to money or fear of the future. They are also self-indulgent and personal expenses could be higher than average. Sixteens on the other hand are exceptional money managers who maintain a high degree of consistency in their spending habits, following a strict system of priority. Personal expenses will not take precedence over family needs. However, they do suffer from a degree of anxiety over their financial state even though it may be quite secure.

Sixteens perceive the world with more emotional detachment than the Five. These differences play a significant role in their intimate relations. Mutual adjustments will be needed to cope with restrained emotion in one and the easy flow of emotion in the other. When serious differences of opinion arise, the Sixteen’s method of defence is usually withdrawal within themselves rather than engaging in a running battle. The angrier they get, the more silent they become. Fives delight in a running battle and the angrier they get, the more vocal they become. Sixteens seldom let down their guard and keep their feelings well hidden while opponents of the Five are never left in doubt about their feelings. The physical and emotional distance in the Sixteen should not be interpreted as an absence or loss of love, which is in fact present in greater consistency and depth than in the average Five. Alternatively, Sixteens should understand that in the Five they have an emotional companion who thrives on sensation. While Sixteens may not use the action of touching as a powerful means of communication of feeling, physically and emotionally unreserved Fives do so as a natural extension of their personality. Sixteens verbal endearments may be few but they will be heartfelt and meaningful and of a permanent quality. The Five’s endearments may be plentiful and equally heartfelt and meaningful at the time they are given, but not necessarily of a lasting nature. Their love of change and variety, or intolerance of sameness could overcome their best intentions unless held back by stronger counteracting forces from their partners. The Sixteen does have the capacity to captivate their Five partner’s attention if they choose to do so.

5TH AND 17TH BIRTHDAYS

A natural desire to take charge of situations and an unawareness that certain personality adjustments are called for in the course of a relationship are normal characteristics of people controlled by odd numbers or active vibrations. Cooperation, collaboration, compromise and teamwork are concepts that are seldom associated with their temperaments. Characteristics such as individuality, authority and freedom to make their own decisions are so much inherent aspects of their personality structure that the idea of adjustment hardly enters their minds. If reminded of such needs their immediate reaction will be one of surprise, resentment and usually rejection. Such suggestions would be equated with an encroachment on their individuality and an impudent attempt to dominate them. People born on the 5th and 17th days fall into this category. Consequently, personality clashes can be expected at a fairly early stage in the event of a Five/Seventeen partnership.

The concentrated power of the single vibration of the 5th day creates an unmistakable Five personality. Qualities of the 5 vibration are so unique in character that they cannot be changed by vibrations from other areas of influence. What these vibrations can do, however, is to create positive or negative expression. They can contribute balance and symmetry to the integral personality or form a lop-sided personality structure. The 5 is an emotionally oriented vibration, and an unbalanced temperament is certain if the 5 is repeated in the birth month. A somewhat similar situation arises if the individual is born in the 2nd or 8th month. In both instances a lop-sided personality is formed by an over emphasis of vibrations from the emotional plane and little or no stability on the physical plane and rationality through the mental plane. The 5 vibration is an active and outgoing force distinguished by qualities of aggression, competition, curiosity and ambition. Above all, it injects the desire to experience life in its fullness. Fives are people who demand plenty of elbow-room. However, these qualities could be put to indiscriminate use by certain other 5 qualities if they are not controlled and directed along constructive lines. There is an ever present urge for a change of scene in the Five caused by a volatile and restless nature which revels in variety, excitement, adventure and a fast turn-over of events. Although all Fives exhibit these personality traits, some are able to maintain a sense of purpose and a sense of direction better than others. The presence or absence of the purposeful 1 vibration determines the degree of positive or negative application of 5 qualities. No other vibration is strong enough to successfully restrain the 5. Five personalities may therefore fall into three broad-based classifications. Those born in the 1st, 10th, 11th, and 12th months are positive Fives as the 1 vibration directs 5 qualities into positive channels of expression. When this vibration is present in other areas of influence, it is not as strong and the Five may alternate between positive and negative expression. When it is not present in any degree of strength, negative expression, especially in the form of irresponsibility, becomes their main problem. Such Fives will be totally incompatible with a Seventeen personality.

Seventeens fall into a single category of qualified Eight personalities. Two active vibrations in the foreground of the personality and one receptive vibration at fundamental levels interact to form the integral personality. The basic Eight personality is secured from exposure to negative influences, particularly loss of direction and a poor self-image, by the strength of the resolute and self-assertive 1 vibration. It is also reinforced by the self-sufficient nature of the 7. Although the 8 vibration is a receptive force operating from the emotional plane, it has many features that are more akin to active vibrations than to receptive vibrations. It is often regarded as a polished version of the 1 vibration. Authority, leadership, competition, ambition and willpower are features common to both, but in the case of the 8 they are used with greater discrimination and judgment. The combination of the 1 and 8 would normally produce an individual devoted exclusively to the acquisition of power and possessions in the material world and a measure of ruthlessness by which they achieve their ambitions. However, in the Seventeen such self-seeking desires are diverted to a large extent by an attraction into abstract and non-material aspects of life created by the impersonal nature of the powerful and mystical 7 vibration. Seventeens are potentially individuals with external strength and internal self-sufficiency. They are not the type that can be manoeuvred or manipulated by anyone, least of all by a changeable Five partner. Characteristics such as dogmatism, intolerance and inflexibility contributed by all three vibrations that make up the Seventeen are too strong for a Five to overcome. The main difference between the two will be seen in the generally disorganised lifestyle of the Five and the organised lifestyle of the Seventeen. The Five is also unconventional, cosmopolitan and non-conformist. They readily give up old ways for new. The Seventeen is conservative and traditional, yet non-conformist. They are attached to the past and slow adapting to change. The Five’s desire for change is bound to clash with the Seventeen’s contentment with things as they are.

Neither is constituted to take up the role of homemaker or the dual role of breadwinner and homemaker. Both clearly belong in different ways, to public life. Fives, especially find it irksome, if not impossible, to settle down in a relationship in which domestic responsibilities are shared on an equal basis. They are people who need to be on the move and therefore find it difficult to abide by the disciplines of a regulated and organised domestic life. Frequent breaks taken to satisfy their need for a change of scene will disrupt the smooth running of the home. Their partners are usually forced to take up more than an equal share of duty. They are really in their element in the hustle and bustle of public life. Their versatility enables them to undertake any type of work as long as it does not hold them down to one spot. The Five is certainly more fulfilled and successful as a breadwinner than a homemaker. The problem facing this partnership is that the Seventeen is also not a domesticated type. They are natural professionals who specialise as accountants, bankers, real estate agents, financial counsellors, insurance agents and in executive and administrative positions in Government and industry. While they may use their homes as a refuge from the strife and turmoil of public life, they have no inclination towards domestic functions. Needless to say, both will be forced by circumstances to take up certain domestic duties, but whether they will do so amicably is an open question. Seventeens are people who cannot stand laxity in any way. They set strict standards of work and conduct and are easily enraged when these standards are not kept. Despite their potentially positive nature, Seventeens are subject to frustration and dark moods of anger, which remain for unreasonable lengths of time. The free and easy Five may unwittingly be the cause of many of these moods. Moodiness is not a characteristic of the Five. They are able to release their frustrations by emotional demonstration and physical activity. They do not cut out the rest of the world as a Seventeen is likely to do.

Differences of opinion are also inevitable in social activity. Involvement in an active social life is held as a high priority by the Five and as a low priority by the Seventeen. The restless Five has a need for social involvement, and their extroverted and uninhibited temperament places no restrictions on the number and type of friends and acquaintances. They are natural organisers of people and conditions and effortlessly assume prominent positions in social gatherings. The Seventeen’s sociability is strictly controlled, and limited to people and conditions of their choice. While the adventuresome Five is attracted to and feels at home with all types of people and conditions that provide excitement and novelty, Seventeens are unsettled and restless in strange company. They find it difficult to relax and let go in company that does not appeal to their conservative and philosophically tinged temperaments. Fives will go ahead and change a social situation to suit themselves, but Seventeens stay clear of situations that do not suit them. They are not dependent on constant activity and interaction with people as their strength lies in the ability to enjoy their own company and the companionship they find in literature and music. They are able to bring physical activity to a halt and mentally enjoy what they have acquired rather than keep seeking more physical activity and pleasure, as a Five is likely to do.

Another feature that separates their identities into two distinct types is excess of speech in one and strictly controlled speech in the other. Positive Fives take their place among the most dynamic speakers and negative Fives among the incessant talkers. Whether positive or negative, Fives cannot resist verbalising their thoughts. They are backed up by an easy flow of words and emotion as well as demonstrative body language. They are generally noisy people who could often disturb the tranquillity of silence-loving partners such as a Seventeen. They are always full of questions and even more of opinions. Seventeens do not possess the same word power or the desire to verbalise their thoughts. Emotional expression is kept to a minimum. Unlike the Five’s prolonged and often roundabout speech, that of the Seventeen is clear-cut and meaningful. They are in fact lazy speakers who do not regard speech as essential a medium of self-expression as a Five does. Emotionally charged issues are always avoided. They do not, however, hesitate to speak out on matters they consider important and may often do so in a pedantic manner. When emotionally disturbed they withdraw into silence while Fives resort to accelerated vocal expression. Seventeens are not given to discussing personal matters but Fives could keep up a constant stream of talk relating to their affairs. Misunderstandings may occur as neither feels the need to explain their actions. Both are also self-teachers who like to learn but do not like to be taught, especially by each other.

Seventeens usually choose leisure activities that help reduce nervous tension built up during working hours. Literature, music, gardening, and other comparatively solitary pastimes are preferred to interests that do nothing to slow down their vibrations and recharge their batteries. Alternatively, Fives tend to continue at the same pace, engaging in outdoor activities that offer challenges, competition and tax their sense of alertness, quick reflexes and spirit of adventure.

Money matters will highlight their different personalities more than other aspects of their relationship. Fives live in the present and use up their money for their current needs. Money is not regarded as a form of security but merely as a means of exchange. They spend generously on themselves on a wide range of personal requirements. They are not thrifty people who shop around for bargains nor do they put anything aside for the future. The Seventeen’s temperament is exactly the opposite. With a healthy respect for money they are ever mindful of the future. Money is used not only as a means of exchange, but also as an essential form of security. They are expert money managers who cannot be prevailed upon to spend on anything that is not of real value. They hold on to their money and do without their needs until they get exactly what they want at the price they are prepared to pay. While Fives may attempt to supplement their income by games of chance or speculative ventures, Seventeens will do so by strict budgeting and wise investments. Fives reduce their finances by increasing their wants but Seventeens increase their finances by reducing their wants.

As the Five’s feelings are not repressed in any way, they are emotionally accessible and emotionally demanding. Much to their disappointment they will not meet with similar responses from a Seventeen partner. An emotionally entwined relationship between these partners is unlikely. Seventeens are prevented from taking advantage of the Five’s openness by their natural aloofness and detached dispositions. Their sentiments are made deep and compassionate through the influence of the 1 and 7 vibrations but held back by their undemonstrative nature. Fives are likely to take the initiative in lovemaking and this will embarrass the Seventeen, especially when emotion is demonstrated in the presence of others. Fives delight in playing provocative, evocative and dramatic roles which do not appeal to the reserved Seventeen.

5TH AND 18TH BIRTHDAYS

A cursory glance at this combination of birthdays is sufficient to reveal that incompatible qualities far exceed any that can be seen as compatible. Nor does it appear a combination that promises a beneficial exchange of different characteristics so that what is lacking or undeveloped in one can be supplied by the other. On the contrary, characteristics derived from these birthdays are different to the extent that they remain in opposition rather than meet in compromise. In the event of a couple with these birthdays entering into a relationship several personality traits that are difficult to reconcile will manifest early. While success in their efforts will be influenced by the overall personality structure of both, the composition of the Five will require the closest examination. It will be this partner who may put in the least effort against the odds they will face.

The nature of the Five personality, which is controlled exclusively by the mercurial 5 vibration, is such that a Five may choose the opposite course and break up a relationship with an ill-matched partner rather than make any significant personality adjustments to save the partnership. Many Fives hesitate to enter into binding relationships for fear of losing their freedom. Personal freedom used in an informal and unconventional style is the very life-blood of the Five personality, and usually becomes the root cause of their problems with others. They resent adjusting to or being tied down by rules of conduct imposed by others. Routine responsibilities and timetables are avoided. Fives may have many more temperamental variations than other people yet they refuse to put up with personality traits of others which may interfere with their own ways, especially by the idiosyncrasies of a partner. The 5 vibration is intimately connected with the five senses. Physical pleasures are uppermost in the minds all Fives and nothing is allowed to stand in their way when they decide upon a new experience. Many of their decisions are motivated by impulse. Concomitant with the love of freedom and sensuous touch with all aspects of life is the need for frequent change of scene and the opportunity to satisfy a deep-seated sense of curiosity. The 5 is a high speed vibration and everything about the Five personality is governed by speed. Their thoughts, decisions, powers of observation, physical movement, reflex actions and speech are all speedier than average. All things considered, the Five personality, whether positively or negatively charged, is not exactly cut out for an interdependent relationship based on a system of give and take. Their sense of individuality and vibratory rate are better suited to a liberated relationship rather than a close, sharing situation.

There is little risk of Eighteens falling into a negative mode of life. Although they are not free from a few uncertain features, standard negative qualities such as anxiety, indecision, introversion, self-deprecation, fear, and a general inferiority complexes are usually foreign to their nature. Eighteens are basically Nine personalities who are backed up by the powerful 1 and 8 vibrations. These vibrations, working in conjunction, provide unlimited potential for personal power plus the energy for achievement of material prosperity. The 1 contributes ego strength, initiative, creativity, leadership and vital energy. The 8 gives judgment, the ability to plan along constructive lines and extraordinary talent for organisation and administration. Further successful qualities common to both vibrations are authority, ambition, willpower, strength of purpose and competitiveness. As all planes of expression are represented in the 18th day the Eighteen personality is motivated by physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energies. The 9 vibration operating at fundamental levels prevents the materialistic attributes of the 1 and 8 taking over the personality to the exclusion of humanitarian and spiritual values. It does not reduce the power of the 1 and 8 but instead helps the total individual maintain a broader outlook on life, and especially saves them from being possessed by power and their possessions. Eighteens are wholly self-sufficient people, who are not suited for equal partnerships or subordinate roles. The senior or executive position is their obvious place in public life. In personal relationships they do not settle for equal or inter-changeable positions. They will certainly reject subordinate or dependent roles. The automatic moves they make to dominate their Five partners may not be successful due to the elusive nature of the Five personality.

The basic orientation of both Fives and Eighteens does not lie in the direction of domesticity but towards public life. The restless Five cannot be held down by responsibilities of the household. They are people who cannot stand still or become tied down to regular duties in one spot. High ambition does not let the Eighteen stand still either. Domesticity will not be regarded as a rewarding occupation. There is a much greater need to make their mark in public life through a regular business occupation or through a leisure activity, or both. In order to reach the top or winning positions they drive themselves and others associated with them. They are not people who settle for second best or merely for the pressures of participation. Dedication to work will always overrule domestic priorities. Fives place a greater emphasis on change, movement, variety and experience than on one-pointed ambition to reach the summit of their chosen ambition. Both personalities become restless and start to lose power when life lacks challenges or opportunities to maintain a prominent image in public life. They are not the most restful and congenial people to have around in such circumstances due to a tendency to create situations for the sake of some emotional, physical and mental activity. In the domestic scene both will expect more than they are prepared to give. Both will attempt to organise things in ways that ensure relief from daily routine, and any resistance will be interpreted as an encroachment on their authority. A cooperative spirit is not part of their personality structures. Ambition, enthusiasm and emotional involvement are all reserved for activities in public life. Complementary and supporting partners are required to take up the domestic role. As this is not found in this partnership sufficient means will be needed for paid housekeepers so that this major source of discontent is removed.

As both partners lead busy lives in their different ways little time is left for close friendships. Acquaintances will outnumber intimates, and their choice of company may not be the same. Fives are naturally cosmopolitan people who can merge into circles that will be unattractive to an Eighteen. They have a knack of amusing themselves at all levels of` social life. They are open personalities who do not put up self-protective barriers. Instead, they take the initiative in getting to know people and participating in every form of activity.

Having no reservations Fives are attracted by novelty and seldom refuse to try anything for the first time. Taken in small doses most people find them to be delightful company, but their high speed temperaments and often turbulent lives could make them tiresome companions over longer periods. For their part, Fives are easily bored by unresponsive and lack-lustre personalities and without regret leave them and press on towards more challenging company. Opposed to this quick turn-over of social contacts is the Eighteen’s comparatively conservative social attitudes. Prompted by the underlying influence of the international 9 vibration they can, when the occasion demands, open out and enjoy themselves in any social gathering, but they soon close in when the sectional and exclusive characteristics of the 1 and 8 vibrations resume their normal hold. For established Fives, their valuable time is reserved, and Eighteen partners may not stay together at a social gathering. The Five will keep moving from place to place or group to group while the Eighteen may remain with a preferred group.

Both partners speak out without fear of contradiction or rejection of their views. At the same time neither will readily accept the opinions, judgments and suggestions of the other. From this point of view the stage may be set for constant bickering by the Five and angry outbursts by the Eighteen. Fives are incessant talkers who could be quite persistent in presenting their opinions, and long-winded in relating their adventures. When they are on the attack they do so from all angles in a cut and thrust fashion, and often repeat themselves until they wear down the opposition. They cannot be ignored or overlooked as their voices are usually raised and emotionally charged. Eighteen’s prefer to take a firm stand, say what needs to be said in precise language and thereafter cease further discussion. The Five’s excess of verbiage will be a source of irritation to the Eighteen while the Eighteen’s authoritative speech followed by silence, will be a cause of frustration to the Five. Both partners will need to exercise tremendous self-control before they could settle down to a sensible discussion.

The highly competitive nature of both partners could draw them into several forms of competitive sport either as participants or followers, or in both capacities. This is perhaps their most opportune avenue towards mutual enjoyment and togetherness. While the Five may prolong a career as a competitor, Eighteens may switch to coaching and administrative work. Whatever role is taken up a lifelong interest will be held. The speed and enthusiasm applied in business affairs by both partners will transfer to their leisure activities without respite. They are outdoor people who seldom, if ever, enjoy restful and relaxing periods at home or take up home oriented hobbies.

Money matters will once again highlight basic problems in this partnership. Both are big spenders. Fives spend indiscriminately and Eighteens spend judiciously. The Five’s expenditure is high as they are usually self-indulgent. Their money is used up quickly to satisfy a variety of desires. Impulsive buying on charge accounts in order to keep up with their needs does not worry them. Their aim is to live their lives and they do so with an ease and unconcern for the future. They are life’s true gamblers who do enjoy a more than usual share of good fortune in games of chance. The Eighteen’s money goes on high standards of living. Dissatisfied with anything that is second best they stretch their budget to the limit, and often beyond the limit in order to satisfy their tastes. Neither partner will of course approve of the others spending habits. Joint possession of a bank account or use of a common money box at home will not be successful.

If their busy lives are not allowed to slow down or be arranged into alternate periods of activity and relaxation in each other’s company sufficient time will not be found to enrich their intimate lives. The habit of giving more and taking less will not take over from their natural tendency to do the opposite. The 5 vibration introduces several features which make fidelity to a single partner a task that will tax their self-control. All Fives have a magnetic attraction to the opposite sex, or what is popularly known as sex appeal. With no sexual inhibitions they are open to instant friendships and temptations not readily experienced by others. Fives could become infatuated with more than one person at a time. Eighteens are powerfully sexed people but their conservative nature also has a powerful hold on their sexual expression. The emotionally reserved nature of the 1 and 8 vibrations tend to engulf romantic overtures and responses which are natural to the underlying Nine personality. They need to soften up a little more in order to accommodate the passionate Five. As they do not have the roving nature of the Five they find it much easier to remain true to a single partner. However, Eighteens should appreciate the sensual nature of their Five partners and not complacently expect them to be happy with a sex life that is kept to a time and place.

Five personalities fall into various categories in terms of positive or negative application of 5 characteristics. The best Fives are those who are supported by the self-directing and purposeful 1 vibration in their birth month. These people make constructive use of versatile 5 qualities. Others, who have this vibration in lesser areas of influence, fluctuate between positive and negative expression. Fives without the 1 vibration could be negatively oriented for the most part, especially in cases where there is an excess of emotional numbers. Self-indulgence and abuse of freedom are problems with these Fives.

5TH AND 19TH BIRTHDAYS

The most successful birthday combinations are those in which a fair interchange of talents and personality traits serve to unify and enrich a relationship. This ideal situation is created by a balanced combination of active and receptive characteristics, or opposite polarities, provided by odd and even numbers. In such conditions whatever is uncharacteristic or underdeveloped in one is supplied in full measure by the other. The consequences of a combination of odd numbers only or of vibrations of the same polarity are usually rivalry, noncooperation and separate development. Personality clashes are inevitable as both partners will insist on taking the initiative in all matters concerning the relationship. One will be loath to accept the decisions and directions of the other.

People whose birthdays are the 5th and 19th and who hastily enter into a relationship will face this difficult situation as they are controlled entirely by active vibrations. Such a partnership may certainly prosper in material terms in view of the assertive, progressive and acquisitive nature of active vibrations, but it will fall short in intimacy and togetherness as it will not be based on reciprocal devotion and service. The natural inclination of people governed by active vibrations is primarily to attain and acquire things for themselves. The act of giving may follow later. Usually they take more than they give. Service, cooperation, conciliation, patience, self-sacrifice, a team spirit and a willingness to make concessions or switch roles (so necessary for a close relationship) are essentially receptive qualities. Most active personalities do not see that reciprocity could lead to the expansion of their outlook on life. Rather, it is interpreted as a form of surrender of their precious individuality. Any attempt to solicit their cooperation may be taken as a challenge to their authority. In a Five/Nineteen partnership neither will tolerate the other’s attempts to usurp the decision making role. Both personalities are natural organisers, administrators and leaders. Deprived of an authoritative role they choose a life of personal freedom, free from troublesome attachments.

Anyone in partnership with a Five personality is immediately faced with the problem of conformity. The Five is the least likely personality to submit to strict authority or arbitrary rules and regulations. Freedom fighters of all sorts are subjects of the 5 vibration. They cannot be made to conform rigidly to timetables or locked into a regular pattern of behaviour, as movement, change and progress are the principal motivating forces of the 5 vibration. People with single digit birthdays have the characteristics of the vibration symbolised by that digit firmly stamped upon their personality. In many instances their effects could be altered or toned down by vibrations from other areas of influence, particularly the birth month. Qualities of the emotionally oriented 5 vibration, however, are so dynamic, mercurial and widespread that they are not noticeably changed but merely channelled into different orders of expression in terms of positivity or negativity. A stronger vibration is needed to do this and the only force that can succeed is the resolute 1 vibration. The degree of success in a relationship, in which one partner is a Five, will depend or the type of Five involved. Those born in the 1st, 10th, 11th or 12th months are positive individuals as the 1 vibration ensures positive expression of 5 characteristics. Versatile 5 qualities could be harnessed and used constructively. The 1 vibration may be present in other areas of influence but it is not as strong as when it is found in the birth month. Such Fives will fluctuate between positive and negative expression. Unmistakable negative Fives are produced when the 5 vibration is repeated in the birth month or when there is an excess of emotional numbers in the birth date. Freedom of expression is abused and many excellent 5 characteristics are scattered in all directions.

Unlike the enigmatic qualities of the 5th day, the 19th forms a straightforward personality type of an exceptionally positive character. As the number 19 reduces to 1 people born on this day are One personalities. But these Ones cannot be equated with Ones born on the 1st or 10th. (A perusal of the chapter on the 1st and 5th birthdays will, however, be useful). Nineteen/Ones are superior to plain Ones as the 1 vibration in the foreground of the personality reinforces the basic One personality. At the same time these strengthened 1 qualities are rounded off, polished and expanded by the comprehensive 9 vibration. While the double 1 contributes independence, initiative, self-confidence, leadership, decision and vital energy, the 9 adds the superior quality of wisdom plus generosity and an attraction to cultural, humanitarian and spiritual aspects of life. Also, egoistic and egocentric traits of the 1 vibration are modified by humanistic and impersonal qualities of the 9. Self-assertive 1 qualities are not weakened but instead enriched by the broad horizons of the 9 making the Nineteen a good combination of head and heart.

As the Five’s sense of freedom outweighs all other considerations their automatic efforts to control the affairs of the partnership will be motivated by their need to be relieved of routine responsibilities. They become unsettled and careless when confined to full-time domestic duty as their restless nature demands a variety of activity and human contact that cannot be adequately found in domestic life. A Nineteen partner will be unmoved by their attempts to organise matters to suit themselves. Shrewd Fives may succeed in manipulating other personality types but not the self-confident and self-assertive Nineteen. Domestic matters are complicated further by the fact that the Nineteen also does not regard domesticity as a full expression of themselves. They are career people who not only become reliable breadwinners but who also carry the potential to make a name for themselves as prominent public figures. Early in this relationship both will become disappointed and frustrated in their attempts to divide domestic responsibilities according to their own ideas of fair play. Qualities that attracted them in a social scene may disappear when they face basic realities of everyday life. The challenge with which each will confront the other can only be overcome by the acceptance of each other’s individuality and establishing clearly defined boundaries. Interchangeable duties will not succeed as the Fire will be impatient with the Nineteen’s exactitude and the Nineteen will feel the same about the Five’s speed. Help from a third party will be the best solution for running a Five/Nineteen household.

A life of sensation is more in keeping with the Five’s temperament than a life of reflection and introspection. Spontaneity is not inhibited by a too frequent analysis of the reasons why they do and say things. Pleasures of life are enjoyed without being turned into moral issues. Their enthusiasm for life in all its fullness evokes reciprocal behaviour in normally placid people who are galvanised into action when they come under the Five’s influence. A Nineteen partner may not be ruled in practical affairs but in social life they will not be immune to the Five’s persuasive powers. Nineteens themselves are sociable people though their sociability is not as spontaneous. There is more depth and continuity in the Nineteen’s friendships as their choice of company is, whenever possible, reserved for mentally and spiritually oriented people whose interests are of a more enduring nature. They do not have the Five’s urge to move on constantly to new enterprises. Fives are cosmopolitan and often bohemian in their social outlook, and use their social contacts to expand and enrich their experiences. While preserving each other’s independence in social activity, Fives and Nineteens will not deprive themselves of the benefits of participation, from time to time, in their respective sets of friends and acquaintances.

The Five is, by far, the more communicative partner. Their rapid thoughts are converted into equally rapid speech and emphasised by emotional demonstration. They are ever ready to talk on anything, in any place, at any time and to any person. Using a vast general knowledge rather than any specialised knowledge they do not hesitate to enter into a topic of discussion that is unfamiliar to them. They may often bluff or outwit others but not their wise Nineteen partners. Their habit of skirting round a subject before coming to the point will be a source of annoyance to the Nineteen who reaches and tackles the heart of a problem without unnecessary preliminaries. Nineteens are not half as effusive with their opinions and instead give out their views after carefully weighing and considering them. Fives are always ready to enter into argument not only for the pleasure they derive from oral expression but also for the satisfaction they gain in a battle of wits. Nineteens are usually sure of their ground but have no tolerance for protracted discussions or verbal contests. A good measure of idealism enters into their arguments while that of the Five may be tinted with motives of self-interest.

The greater the degree of ego strength in a couple, the greater is the chance of individual or separate development. As this is generally the feature in a Five/Nineteen partnership these partners may use their leisure time to indulge in their favourite pastimes without placing undue pressure on each other. Nineteens will not share the Five’s satisfaction with the world of sense experience but rather will feel the need to press beyond it and find pleasure in mental and spiritual realms. Though aggressive attitudes and tensions built up during working hours may be released by physical activity in most people, Fives never really seem to unwind as they move from a tense and busy business life into challenging and competitive sports, and social functions of all descriptions. They are not people who use their non-working hours to recharge their batteries in relaxing, meditative and solitary exercises, despite a real need to do so. Nineteens on the other hand, do not build up the same degree of tension as Fives, yet they are more likely to take up self-development hobbies that restore nervous energy spent during working hours. Their capacity to work with and benefit from the restorative effects of solitude and natural surroundings should be observed and developed by their Five partners. This is one area in which the Five can be influenced. Both partners are natural travellers and trips into remote parts of the country during their holidays not only help to release tensions but also add a strong knot to their otherwise fairly loose ties.

The right to handle their own money will be insisted upon by both partners. Fives are lavish spenders who need a constant supply of cash to meet their demanding lifestyle. They are people who do not budget and live within their budgets. Despite their reluctance to give up or share their income they are frequently out of money. They seldom wait until they can afford a luxury item and proceed to get whatever they desire and scarcely worry about their capacity to settle accounts. Nineteens work on different principles. They are a mixture of caution, generosity and responsibility in all financial matters. Borrowing will be restricted to major items only, such as housing. Most of their other needs are self-funded. They are good accountants who draw up and stick to a budget in their daily affairs. The difference between Fives and Nineteens will be observed when bills arrive. These are settled promptly by the Nineteen while the Five is never in a hurry to do so. These partners will undoubtedly find it very difficult to adapt to each other’s manner of handling financial matters. The Nineteen may be justifiably mistrustful of the Five’s ability to manage the partnership’s money matters in a businesslike manner, and the Five will be resentful of restrictions placed on their freedom to spend as they like.

A vigorous sex life can be expected as active vibrations control both Fives and Nineteens. Inhibitions do not hinder physical or emotional expression of their sexual urges. Each should be able to meet the demands of the other. Passive or receptive sexual responses will not be experienced in this relationship. The Five’s emotions and passions surface and subside with greater speed and frequency, but those of the Nineteen may take a little more time to surface and a longer time to subside, and at less frequent intervals. The Five’s feelings are not as easily hurt as those of the Nineteen. They do not allow any real or imagined injury to spoil their pleasures. Nineteens have much deeper feelings and consequently suffer deeper hurts. Indiscretions are taken more seriously by them. Nineteens are comfortable in the company of either sex while Fives are usually attracted to the opposite sex and in the process they are inclined to treat their own sex with neglect or even disdain. This attitude exposes them to more temptation than other personality types.

5TH AND 20TH BIRTHDAYS

The presence of the Zero in birthdays such as the 10th, 20th and 30th does not add any new characteristics to the 1, 2, and 3 vibrations, but, instead generates an intensification of existing characteristics. For instance, people born on the 2nd or 20th birthdays are both Two personalities, however, attributes of the 2 vibration, whether positively or negatively expressed, are more emphasised in the Twenty (2 + 0 = 2). In a Five/Twenty partnership the Five partner is allied to a Two personality on a slightly higher dimension. In all other respects the relationship will be the same as one between a Five and a plain Two. The chapter on the 2nd and 5th birthdays should be referred to. The only point to be kept in mind is that the personality of a positive Twenty is more effective than that of a positive Two, and that of a negative Twenty may be more ineffective than a negative Two.

5TH AND 21ST BIRTHDAYS

A relationship between Five and Twenty-One partners will be similar to one between Five and Twelve partners. The chapter on the 5th and 12th birthdays should be referred to. Twelve personalities may be read as Twenty-One personalities. Also, the chapter on the 3rd and 5th birthdays may be of interest because all persons born on the 12th and 21st days of the month are qualified Three personalities – 21 reduces to 3 (2 + 1 = 3).

5TH AND 22ND BIRTHDAYS

A leap in the dark will be the best description of a relationship entered into by a couple with these birthdays. Unpredictability of the outcome is due to the unique nature of their governing vibrations. The 5 vibration controlling the 5th day is exceptional in the sense that it radiates from an emotional centre into every other aspect of human consciousness. No other vibration represented by a single digit spreads itself with such evenness through physical, emotional, mental and intuitional planes of expression. Its impact on the Five personality is reflected through a great variety of personality traits. Versatility, flexibility, restlessness, curiosity, changeability, unpredictability, alertness and speed are some of the prominent qualities. The unusual temperament of the Five personality is witnessed in their tendency to be attracted to everything but held down by nothing. Inevitably, these volatile qualities are gained at the expense of concentration, depth, specialisation, permanence and cooperation. They are motivated by an overwhelming sense of freedom and the need to experience life in all its phases without undue restrictions. Consequently a Five can hardly be expected to fit neatly into a two-way relationship based on voluntary observance of mutual obligations and joint decision making.

Five personalities function in various degrees of positive or negative expression. Positive Fives have the willpower to marshal their talents and use them constructively, while negative Fives actually fall victim to their many talents. Without a proper guiding force they are driven in various directions and, in the process, lose their bearings. The 5 vibration is so mercurial by nature that it needs an exceptionally steady force to channel it onto productive paths. The only vibration strong enough to do so is the self-willed and persevering 1 vibration. When this number is present in the birth month the Five personality is undoubtedly a positive individual. If it is the destiny number, positivity is not an inherent trait. However, the road is open for the Five to work towards positive application of their talents. Any letters in their name which convert to the number 1 will also help, but not in the same degree of strength as when they are found in the birth month. Negative Fives are usually those who have emotional numbers repeated in the birth month and birth year. Excess of emotionalism reduces willpower and the capacity for self-direction. Partially negative Fives lack self-confidence and a sense of permanence. All Fives, whatever the degree of positivity or negativity have in common the desire for novelty, adventure, melodrama and a frequent change of scene. These qualities are not exactly conducive to a close and interdependent relationship. However, with a positive Twenty-Two partner there is much less chance than with partners of other vibrations that there will be too many problems. Twenty-Twos are not people who solely devote their lives to a partner or family attachments. Their outlook on life extends far beyond individuals.

All persons born on the 22nd are governed by the master vibration which is superior in all respects to the other master vibration symbolised by the number 11 and, of course, to the vibrations represented by the single digits. The power of the 22 lies in the unlimited potential they possess for self-expression in the physical, mental and spiritual planes. Their emotional life is also well balanced and under control. Their vastly expanded conscious is attuned to higher frequencies well beyond the testimony of the five senses. They often dispense with analysis and investigation, because things become known to them through an intuitive wisdom. While others may look for logical reasons for acting or reacting, Twenty-Twos are guided by their intuition as well as sound practical ability. The basic difference between the Five and Twenty-Two is seen in the widespread but tentative hold on things by the Five, and the widespread but profound grasp of the Twenty-Two. In practical terms, whatever the Five can do, the Twenty-two can do better, with more lasting results. Self-interest often motivates the Five but the Twenty-Two is usually motivated by altruistic and humanistic ideals. While Fives observe and respond to life from a hilltop viewpoint, which in itself is an achievement, Twenty-Twos enjoy mountaintop perspectives and responses. They may associate with their Five partners in all the pleasures of physical life but will leave them behind when they are transported into abstract realms by the pull of their stronger spiritual nature.

Despite the extraordinary power of the master vibration, Twenty-Twos are as dependent as the Fives on the resolute 1 vibration to give them the power to consolidate and use their energies in a self-confident and constructive manner. The absence of this vibration reduces the power of the master vibration and transforms the Twenty-Two into a competent Four personality. But the potential of the master vibration remains to be drawn upon if over-sensitivity can be overcome and self-confidence built up. While there is a chance of a loose but workable relationship between a positive Five and a positive Twenty-Two there is little hope of compatibility if one or both are negatively inclined. Irresponsibility in the Five and over-sensitivity in the Twenty-Two will be the main divisive factors.

Distribution of authority and responsibility in the domestic scene will be impeded by the extroverted orientation of both partners and their different levels of self-expression. Both will go about organising their environment to suit their own ends with different motives and with widely different ways that are bound to come into collision. Fives need to enter public life to divert their minds from the restlessness they experience if they remain at home. Using considerable subtlety they design various strategies whereby their partners or family members are obliged to take up regular domestic duties. They may offer help in fits and starts or emergencies but will avoid being tied down to routine. If they fail in their efforts the household suffers through disorganisation and lack of system. This is not due to lack of competence, but rather the absence of true domestic instincts. Twenty-Twos find comfort in a well organised environment. With an unlimited capacity for work and responsibility, they are people who like to get things done, while others, such as a Five, may still be talking or arguing or just pottering about. At an early stage in life the Twenty-Two may not experience conflict between an occupational role and domestic duties, but as they grow older, humanitarian activities may overrun their domestic attachments and be more meaningful to them. At this stage they will look for help from their partners. Five partners will not respond all that well. They would be more suited to assisting the Twenty-Two in their public duties. Positive Twenty-Twos who make greater use of their potential to rise to such pre-eminence as public figures will suffer from the absence of such support. Other Twenty-Twos who usually revert to the potential of a Four are able to settle down as efficient homemakers with much less difficulty while still maintaining a limited interest in public life.

Fives do not necessarily aspire to positions of authority for the sake of power and prestige but aim more for the greater freedom they gain for independent action and movement. They function poorly and even rebelliously in subordinate positions. Much of their energy will be spent in devising ways and means of getting out of a pattern of life determined by someone else. Unless they establish their status as free individuals they do not tap into their full potential. Twenty-Twos who find themselves being treated as subordinate partners do not allow this state to continue for long. The positive Twenty-Two, especially, soon reaches a position of power and authority as a master organiser and administrator. They see themselves not as tyrants or autocrats, complacent in self-glory, but instead as teachers and benefactors devoted to the improvement of living conditions. They may put on a mask of authority and a businesslike manner, but behind this façade are hidden innate feelings of kindness and sensitivity. Twenty-Twos who operate as Fours may not be as self-assertive and authoritative but will reject attempts by anyone to relegate them to subordinate positions.

Social life will not bring on the same degree of disagreement that these partners are likely to experience in domestic matters. As both are extroverted individuals they enjoy mixed company in all walks of life, however, their choice of company may not always be the same. The Five is likely to move among people who enjoy physical pleasures, while the Twenty-two, in addition to such company, will include individuals and groups involved in cultural and spiritual activities. As interdependence and possessiveness are not problems in this partnership, both will give each other plenty of elbow room in social life. The impact the Five has on company is immediate and conspicuous. They tend to take over and assume prominent positions in any group. Their bright ideas and spontaneous show of affection instantly attract an enthusiastic following. Rarely influenced by opinions and seldom accepting conditions as they are, they set about reorganising things as they cannot stand any situation that has not enjoyed the benefits of progress. At the same time, they are people who enter into and may change a social scene like a whirlwind, and as suddenly turn their attention to other scenes. Any uplifting sentiment they may have created would usually be temporary. This is just as well, because not many can keep up with the high tensions and feverish pace set by the Five. They are always ready to champion a cause but their sustained support cannot be taken for granted. The same amount of physical movement and changes of scene are not as necessary to the Twenty-Two. Consequently, closer ties can be cultivated by them with individuals and groups. They may not make a stirring impact on company in the first instance but will proceed to cleverly increase their influence until they are in full control. As their aims in life are turned towards universal and impersonal achievement rather than toward self-centred desires their contribution is more enduring and beneficial.

Communication between these partners will be obstructed to some extent by their different levels of articulation. Fives are usually loud spoken individuals whose speech is accompanied by demonstrative and evocative body language. They are impatient listeners who do not hesitate to interrupt, interject, or take over conversation. As their speedy thoughts are followed by fluency of speech they are intolerant of slow and deliberate thinkers and speakers. They often flit from one topic to another without effort. Or, in a discussion on a particular subject, they may introduce several irrelevant arguments. Twenty-Twos are soft spoken people whose body language is restrained and authoritative. Though sensitive by nature they are not caught up in the grip of their emotions. As a consequence their speech is not as self-revealing as that of the Five. They are ideal conversationalists as they are not only good talkers but they are also good listeners. They are thoughtful and tactful speakers whose aim it is to spread knowledge rather than satisfy a need for self-expression. While much of the Five’s conversation may centre upon their rights and privileges, Twenty-Twos concentrate less on these matters and more on their duties and obligations.

Holidays and leisure activities will be spent in the same individual spirit they apply in social life. Following their highly competitive nature The Five will no doubt become involved in a variety of sport, including those in which they match their energies against the forces of nature. Twenty-Twos are not as daring and adventurous in the physical world. Their curiosity and courage are often directed into adventures in classical, psychic and other esoteric pursuits. With many Twenty-Twos, especially those involved in welfare and humanitarian work, their private interests are likely to merge with their public duties. Despite the broad divisions in their leisure activities these partners can use their versatile talents to help each other out of difficulty whenever the need arises.

Arguments over money matters may surface with painful regularity. Fives spend generously on themselves and positive Twenty-Twos part with their money on others and on various projects in which they become involved. Twenty-Twos who are negatively inclined do not spend money on themselves or on others. Fives are not attached to money as a means of security but instead use it as a means to satisfy their wants. Quite often personal demands exceed personal income and they resort to borrowing or games of chance to help them out. They are, nevertheless, resourceful and ingenious people who are capable of earning from a variety of sources. However, their income may not always be regular. A bank account in joint names will be unwise as both partners will draw upon the account without consulting each other. A Twenty-Two who operates as a Four is likely to have a secret savings account. These are not gamblers or speculators and firmly believe that money saved is money earned.

Characteristics of independence and self-determination which govern other aspects of their relationship will not interfere with their sex life. Both partners are, for the most part, physically and emotionally compatible. The only difference will be seen in readiness and constancy. Fives are much more conscious of their sexuality and remain on the alert to explore and respond to the attractions of the opposite sex. In doing so they keep themselves open to temptations and accusations. Fidelity to one partner can only be kept through the exercise of willpower and high principles, which they may not often use. Twenty-Twos can cope with the Fives’ demands with a good chance of containing them within the bonds of their relationship. Twenty-Twos are sensitive and self-conscious people who are embarrassed by spontaneous displays of sexual desire and therefore reserve their lovemaking for a proper time and place. This is the only condition that may be placed on the Five partner.

5TH AND 23RD BIRTHDAYS

Vibrations of a mercurial and volatile nature control these birthdays. To say that a relationship under the control of these vibrations could be perilous and explosive will not be an overstatement. Five personalities are formed by both birthdays; an outright Five on the 5th day and a qualified Five on the 23rd. Once the nature of the 5 vibration is known, one would hardly expect a pair of Fives, whatever their constitution, to chime together in a harmonious relationship based on reciprocal thought and action. In any event, vibrations of the same polarity are incomplete in themselves. They need to be complimented by opposite forces to ensure a compatible union. If not the repellent tendencies of like polarities can be expected. It is true that this combination does contain a receptive vibration in the form of the 2, but these forces will be almost totally submerged by the collective power of the 5 and 3. It has, no doubt, a measure of influence on the Twenty-Three personality, but not on the relationship itself.

The personality of the outright Five is formed by the concentration of the 5’s characteristics. The 5 vibration is a multidimensional force in the sense that it flows from an emotional centre into physical, mental and intuitive planes of expression. However, it functions in the fashion of an ebb and flow without depth or permanence. Therefore, a Five personality needs vibrations from other areas of influence that provide depth, permanence and proper direction. The personality of the Twenty-Three is a threefold composition. The 2, 3 and 5 vibrations which form the Twenty-Three have between themselves many features in common which become indistinguishable when merged into a single personality. The absence of internal conflict usually caused by conflicting vibrations is the most beneficial result. Their sympathetic interaction provides three major outlets to the Twenty-Three. The direct result is greater versatility. Yet, the personality cannot be said to be fully rounded off, as physical and down-to-earth vibrations are not part of its overall structure.

Both Fives and Twenty-Threes benefit immensely when the birth month contains physically oriented vibrations. Emotionalism is brought under control and practicality is introduced. The 1 vibration, in particular, provides positive features such as self-confidence, initiative, decision, a sense of purpose and a sense of direction. The 4 and 7 in the birth month will also counteract emotionalism and add earthly values, but, do not guarantee self-confidence. Positive Fives and Twenty-threes are people who can prove their worth in a variety of fields and achieve some degree of eminence in all of them. Those who are inclined towards negative expression lose perseverance and continuity and surrender to the lure of new attractions before they have had time to gain some expertise in what they are already engaged in. Without the self-propelling force of the 1 vibration or the stable force of the 4 and 7 many Fives and Twenty-Threes get carried away by enthusiasm for new ventures that do not last and one such venture may be a relationship with another volatile partner. Cooperation between these two exceptionally talented individuals can open out unlimited possibilities, but, the chances are that their inclination towards freedom of thought and action will deflect them into separate development and even competitive behaviour and disunity.

Typical Five characteristics natural to both individuals are emotionalism, restlessness, changeability, speed, flamboyance, flexibility, adaptability, and above all an empathic expression of their status as free individuals. Outstanding as these qualities are they are not what is required for a cooperative relationship or a united front. Unfortunately, the qualities of adaptability and flexibility may not be applied in a reciprocal fashion towards the welfare of the partnership. Instead, for the most part, they will be directed outwards for experiencing life in all its manifold aspects. The natural tendency in both is to view their own character with complacency and expect personality adjustments to be made by others. Organisation, management and even manipulation are personality traits more in keeping with their temperament than autocratic authority. Neither a leader nor a follower will emerge in this partnership as one or the other will constantly be attempting to gain some personal advantage. Their relationship could develop into a campaign by two strategists for positions that give them the least responsibility and the greatest amount of personal freedom. Homemaking will not be seen as a fulfilling career by these extroverted and restless people. They are hardly equipped to cope with the routine, regularity and degree of self-sacrifice required of a dutiful homemaker. Right royal battles are likely to develop each time one attempts to pass domestic duties on to the other.

Team spirit and unanimity wanting in the domestic scene will be alive in social life. But, here again, these partners will not be dependent on each other for entry and participation in social circles. They may alternate between independent activity and participation as a couple. What is important, however, is that they will not demand an account of each other’s time, and will allow each other the same freedom they take for themselves. As both have a tendency towards spur of the moment decisions they have neither the time nor the desire to seek approval for their movements, nor do they set up expectations to be lived up to. Social prominence is easily gained by both. The Five’s influence is spread by their natural enthusiasm and magnetic personality. Twenty-Threes, in addition, use an inborn charm, courtesy and a ready sense of humour. As their greatest source of pleasure is variety, both partners will move among people from all walks of life. Easily stifled by over concern for propriety, they will certainly avoid boring or ultra-conservative people. Their homes are not likely to be centres of hospitality unless a third party in the form of a near relative is available to take charge of cooking and washing. Most of their social life will be spent away from home in places of public entertainment.

Fives and Twenty-Threes easily take rank with the greatest talkers of this world. Never at a loss for words and aided by a flair for showmanship both compulsively out-talk others and attempt the same on each other. Neither can summon the self-control and patience to stop talking and start listening for a reasonable length of time. Many Fives can be heard from a distance as they usually have what can be described as a carrying voice. The Twenty-Three’s tones are modulated and their speech is exceptionally articulate. Both personalities are alert and sharp-witted, and do not hesitate to use their fluency of speech to outmanoeuvre people who may be more knowledgeable yet more deliberate and hesitant in thought and speech. Profuse in their compliments in favourable circumstances they can also cut people down with sharp words or disparaging gestures. When they dislike or disagree with something they are apt to make no secret of it. They are just as open with their feelings when they esteem or admire a person or idea. In the cut and thrust of argument unruly emotions force them into saying more than they mean. Sparks fly when they turn upon each other. Neither would hesitate to take instant advantage of a mistake or flaw in the other’s speech. In a social setting they cannot be relegated to a back seat position. Sooner or later they become the centre of attention of an admiring audience.

As both partners are curious by nature, enthusiastic and impatient, they aim to get as much out of life in the quickest possible time. They cannot see the wisdom of planning or waiting for opportune moments to act, and instead go ahead as the spirit moves them. They are not natural philosophers who ponder over situations trying to dissect the rights and wrongs of their actions. Instead, they take all experiences in their stride and usually do so with a blend of humour and nonchalance. As compulsively restless people they lead action packed lives. Their many shared habits stand them in good stead during holidays and other leisure periods. The times they spend together will invariably be in the outdoors. They are good travelling companions who move around light and fast. With a keener sense of romance, beauty and colour the Twenty-Three has a wider array of artistic talents. These may take up individual hobbies in music, literature, drama, and painting while Fives turn to a variety of physical activities.

As Fives and Twenty-Threes are not people who deny themselves the pleasures of the moment, high personal expenses will take their toll on their finances. Savings for the future may be totally neglected. Both have the capacity of earning money from a variety of sources and many opportunities are open to them, but, the direct consequence of this open field is that they keep changing positions too frequently. Both rate freedom and variety higher than security or length of tenure. They may experience many ups and downs, yet, their lifestyles will seldom be adjusted to meet current economic realities. They take chances and remain unmoved when events do not turn out as expected. New ventures are taken up almost immediately without a backward glance.

The novelty and variety they demand in all aspects of life are highlighted in the vital aspect of their love life. Both can walk away from a relationship the moment the gloss of novelty has worn off. Their extroverted lifestyles expose them to temptations and opportunities for diversification. Their resistance is seldom strong. However, if they are not put under pressure they may willingly remain faithful to one another as both possess the requirements that keep romance alive such as imagination, experimentation, romance, good humour and especially emotional expression that is unhampered by inhibitions.

5TH AND 24TH BIRTHDAYS

One of the best examples of opposite polarities is demonstrated in this birthday combination. The vibratory forces are so far apart in nature that it is hard to find a magnetic attraction taking place by two polarities controlled by them. Yet, the prospect of a natural attraction cannot be denied. On the one hand, the 5th day or the Five personality is exclusively the subject of the active and vigorous 5 vibration, and on the other hand, the 24th day or the Twenty-Four personality is a sympathetic blending of three receptive and tranquil vibrations (2, 4, & 6). As expenditure of energy is the function of active forces and storage of energy is that of receptive forces, whatever can be said of the Five personality, the opposite quality applies to the Twenty-Four.

Many drastic personality adjustments will be required in the course of a relationship between Fives and Twenty-Fours and these adjustments are not likely to take place on a mutual basis. As authority, leadership, decision, initiative and willpower are their natural characteristics, it is not in the nature of people controlled by active vibrations to function willingly in a cooperative relationship. A suggestion that they adopt such measures as cooperation, reciprocity, compromise or any sort of self-sacrifice will be interpreted as an assault on their status as free and independent individuals. Egotistical attachment to their own set of beliefs and values prevents them from yielding to those of others. A dominant, persistent and self-assured partner may use direct and forceful means to change a Five and achieve occasional success, but, a passive and peace loving Twenty-Four will only adopt slower and subtle methods of their receptive vibrations such as tact, diplomacy, patience, forgiveness and compromise. In the process, they will inevitably give more of themselves than they will receive. Unless they are pushed to extremes, and this is possible with a Five partner, they are not usually resentful of this condition. Service is an essential form of self-expression in anyone controlled by the 2, 4 or 6 vibrations. As Twenty-Fours are a compound of all three, they naturally become loyal, dutiful and self-sacrificing partners. In contrast, personal experience of everything life has to offer is the Five’s principal objective.

As every number or vibration has its positive and negative aspects, Fives and Twenty-Fours come in a mixed bag in terms of positive and negative expression of their birthday vibrations. Some are predominantly positive, others are trapped in their negative aspects and many shift between the two forms of expression. A vein of positivity or negativity does not increase or decrease the characteristics of their vibrations. Instead, a positive vein provides the incentive for maximum use of the best aspects, and a negative vein reduces self-motivation and leads the individual into the negativity. A good self-image in one and a poor self-image in the other is the main difference. The Five vibration on its own does not ensure full positive expression by the Five personality. Its nature is much too volatile to help the Five personality to use its extensive qualities in constructive and consistent ways. It needs something like a rudder in the form of another vibration to keep it on an even course. The only vibration strong enough to do this is the 1 vibration. The vibrations of the birth month form the strongest support to a personality that is formed by the birthday. When the 1 is found in the birth month the Five personality acts positively. The degree of positivity, and proportionately the degree of negativity, varies when it is found in other spheres of influence (such as the name). Where the 1 vibration has little effect (such as the birth year) or is lacking completely, negative aspects are predominant. Positive Five qualities that are readily distinguishable are leadership, decision, initiative, organisation, motivation, progress and physical courage. Negative Fives reveal themselves through self-indulgence, irresponsibility, unreliability, abuse of freedom, loss of personal direction and sense of purpose. There are also many neutral qualities natural to all Fives, but varying in intensity according to their overall personality structure, such as emotionalism, tension, enthusiasm, restlessness, quick reflexes, alertness, curiosity, speed and change.

As in the case of the Five vibration, the 2, 4 and 6 either individually or collectively are vibrations that need the charge of a self-propelling force to make optimum use of their potential. Positive Twenty-Fours display extroverted personality traits that cover physical, emotional and mental planes of expression. They are often described as ‘the salt of the earth’. They earn this appellation with qualities such as practicality, responsibility, service, self-discipline, thrift, honesty, guardianship, planning, organisation and the capacity to cope with onerous and monotonous duties. Negative Twenty-Fours are depressing people who take an opposite course to their positive counterparts. Apathetic towards their own abilities they make little effort towards self-expression and frustratingly oppose any positive suggestions towards self-development. They are moody, complaining, and inclined to dramatise domestic problems. Poor concentration, little perseverance, and fear of commitment are further negatives that reduce their productivity in public and domestic life. The quality and impact of neutral characteristics in all Twenty-Fours such as gentleness, courtesy, companionship, hospitality, peace, harmony, parenthood, guardianship and sociability are relative to the composition of their integral personalities. The 1 vibration in the birth month will influence the outcome.

A Five/Twenty-Four couple with predominantly positive temperaments possesses the incentive and initiative to work towards a successful relationship. However, if one or both are negatively inclined, the relationship may not last. The breakup may be initiated and finalised by the Five. A Five partner could walk out of a relationship that has lost its initial excitement without regret or remorse. A Twenty-Four would be too indecisive and conscience-stricken to adopt such severe measures. As freedom is the vital requirement for the Five’s wellbeing any form of direct authority or confinement to rules and regulations inhibits their potential and gives rise to adverse reactions. Consequently, they chose a lifestyle free from obligations or assume a leading role in a partnership which would enable them to continue in their natural style of living. They are experts at organising their environment so that it works for them. Twenty-Fours are not leaders; nor are they unquestioning followers. They are companions, associates, allies and partners in the true sense of the word. In partnership with a Five, their hopes for a close companionship may meet with disappointment. However, they are well equipped to adjust and accommodate themselves to a secondary position. This may only be in outward appearance as their stable temperaments may hold real power behind the scenes. The home will be their power base as domesticity is an attribute of the three vibrations interacting within their personality structure. Furthermore, they are not likely to face resentment or competition in the running of the home as their Five partners are not housebound people. Household duties will be neglected or performed haphazardly in the hands of a Five homemaker. Inconsistence in regular duties rather than incompetence is their problem. The Twenty-Four, in contrast, can fit into the position of breadwinner or homemaker, or both, with much greater reliability and flexibility. If this is to be a one-income partnership, the Five should be the breadwinner. If not, the partnership will be too lopsided.

Both personalities are extroverted by nature but their individual forms of extroversion, particularly in social life, are divided into two parts: the speedy and high geared mentality of the Five on the one hand, and the unhurried low geared temperament of the Twenty-Four on the other hand. Also, self-interest may influence many of the Five’s social attitudes while good deeds and counselling are among the Twenty-Four’s attributes. Never-ending pressures and frustrations may arise unless an amicable compromised is reached. Fives may need to slow down and spend some time at home while Twenty-Fours may need to introduce imagination and variety into their social outlook. Fives are basically people of action, and communication with others may remain secondary to their various outdoor activities. Twenty-Fours are basically socially oriented people and inter-communication with people takes precedence over outdoor activity. Fives do not resist a natural urge to reorganise and rearrange things as they are seldom able to accept conditions as they find them. Consequently, they make their presence felt soon after they join a social gathering. The Twenty-Four’s social conduct is conventional, conformist and low-key, motivated by team spirit and consensus of opinion.

The Five’s sparkling and dynamic mentality is intensified by an extraordinary capacity to influence people through the power of speech. With agile minds, fluency of speech, strong vocal chords, demonstrative body language and a roundabout way of handling facts they express their opinions with conviction and credibility. They can also be circuitous and non-committal and few people can match, let alone out-match them in argument. A Twenty-Four partner will be submerged by a Five’s verbosity. While Five’s are pure talkers who seldom stop and listen to the views of others, Twenty-Four’s are pleasant conversationalists who contribute their part and listen to the views of others. Their speech is slow and deliberate, and is delivered with minimal body language. As common sense and caution influence their thought processes they are not swayed by flattery or fast talk, especially by a calculating Five partner. They enjoy a sensible discussion but avoid emotionally charged arguments. They may, on occasion, challenge a Five partner’s schemes and designs but, for the most part, remain silent as a form of defence, while the Five keeps on talking. Fives release their feelings openly and bounce back quickly from emotional setbacks. Twenty-Fours, however, remain moody and inaccessible for prolonged periods.

The competitive and adventurous spirit of the Five and the non-competitive and home oriented nature of the Twenty-Four become evident in the use they make of their spare time and choice of holiday destinations. Following the lure of the outdoors Fives need to match their wits and skills against their fellows and against the forces of nature in various forms of sport. Activities that do not contain various forms of competition, risk, danger, chance and movement cannot hold their attention for long. They become restless and troublesome when forced to spend time at home. Twenty-Fours, by contrast, are very much at ease when involved in home based hobbies such as home maintenance, cooking, and jobs that call for practical skills. They are natural handypersons who are happiest using their wonderful hands fixing or making something or other. They become restless and disoriented when taken out of their routine and away from home for long periods. Time voluntarily spent away from home will be given in social service and other civic duties.

The most serious disagreements between these two partners are likely to arise in the financial aspect of the partnership and these could be serious enough to lead to a breakup. Anxiety over financial security is a problem associated with all three vibrations forming the Twenty-Four personality. Exceptionally cautious in all money matters, they make a habit of looking for bargains, cutting costs, using their hobbies as an additional means of income and saving regular portions of their earnings. While their only indulgence may be in their fondness for good food, for the rest they spend thriftily on themselves. Fives, in contrast, are indifferent to financial security. They are gamblers by nature who live in the present in the optimistic belief that the future looks after itself. They part with their money freely and impulsively and their personal expenditure is high. It is not likely that these partners will ever reconcile their spending habits. The only way this partnership can survive financially is when the Twenty-Four holds a tight rein on expenditure. However, it will not be easy to persuade an income earning Five to surrender their purchasing powers.

The Five personality lives in a permanent state of animation and melodrama. The general lack of sparkle in the Twenty-Four’s personality in conjunction with their deliberate and cautious ways may evaporate much of the Five’s enthusiasm, and force them to look elsewhere for excitement and novelty. The Twenty-Four’s ambition to establish an environment of warmth, companionship, stability and model parenthood may be frequently frustrated by the absence of domestic attachment in the restless Five. While Fives are quite content to pass on the domestic cares to their partners, Twenty-Fours will not expect their partners to do anything they could not do themselves; nor will they make a calculated decision that may be detrimental to the welfare of a partner. As a consequence, Twenty-Fours take upon themselves many additional burdens. They are often blind to the faults and failings of loved ones, and this situation may suit the Five very well. With such diverse temperaments it is difficult to envisage a truly intimate relationship between Fives and Twenty-Fours. Although the Twenty-Four has all the necessary qualities to nurture a close relationship, the Five’s responses, except in their sex lives, cannot be counted upon. It is not in the nature of the freedom loving Five to surrender any portion of themselves or tolerate the invasion of another’s ideals into their lifestyle.

5TH AND 25TH BIRTHDAYS

When comparing these birthdays and the personality types they form, an interchange of several uncommon characteristics is revealed. The combination brings into play many unpredictable, enigmatic, changeable, ambivalent, and evocative forces. Too many variables alternate within both the Five and Twenty-Five to label them as particular types and suggest that they would be well matched or ill matched.

In conjunction with the planet Mercury, the 5 vibration has full control of the 5th day and, in a larger measure, the Five personality. The Five, from its central position on the emotional plane spreads out into the physical, mental and intuitional planes of expression. Consequently, it provides the individual with more inlets and outlets for self-expression than other single vibrations. Hence, the hallmarks of versatility, flexibility and adaptability in all Five personalities are noticeable. However, its coverage of these planes is not always simultaneous, nor is it of an enduring or penetrating nature. As a result the changeable, restless and tentative aspects of the Five are noticeable. If a multitude of variable characteristics is the hallmark of the Five, the Twenty-Five presents an infinitely more complex personality structure. The three vibrations operating within this personality introduce an even greater variety of characteristics and opportunities for self-expression. They also introduce some counteractive features that are responsible for a degree of inner conflict in the individual. The result of these complexities is a personality that is not easily understood, not only by themselves but also by others. Magnetic forces of the moon and the planets Mercury and Saturn influence the Twenty-Five. Calm, placid, romantic and sensitive qualities which are contributed by the moon through the 2 vibration are confronted by mobile, vibrant, flexible and restless qualities of the planet Mercury, ruler of the 5 vibration, while the mysterious planet Saturn through the 7 vibration introduces qualities of reserve, introspection and inexplicability.

The 5 vibration is an exterior force recognised as the vibration of the senses. As a result the extroverted nature of all Five personalities to whom personal freedom is the essence of life, is noticeable. No limitations are placed upon their keen sense of curiosity and desire to experience as much of the phenomenal world as possible. So that they are free to do so, they use their initiative to create opportunities and consciously set about organising an environment which demands of them the minimum of responsibility and accountability. They are certainly within reach when emergencies arise and on such occasions display exceptional resourcefulness, but their partners may be cornered into undertaking a greater share of work in regular duties. The foremost needs of a Five are a sense of purpose, sense of direction, some sense of permanence and the self-discipline to keep up with these objectives. When these powers are built into their integral personality structure the potential for personal success and a significant impact on public life can be fully exploited. If not, they are likely to flounder from one thing to another without gathering or contributing anything worthwhile. Positive and negative Fives represent these divisions. Though the road will be turbulent, a positive Five may make some headway in a partnership with a Twenty-Five but a negative Five could easily fall by the wayside, as it were, bringing the relationship to an unpleasant end. The force that ensures positivity in the Five is the single-minded 1 vibration. It is most effective when found in the birth month. In other spheres of influence the degree of positivity will depend on the nature of the particular sphere of influence. For instance, if it is the destiny number (the number that is the result of all the digits of the entire birthday added together) the Five has to make every effort to work in the direction of positivity and will be helped to do so by the pull of destiny. Twenty-Fives also, are greatly assisted by the self-propelling and unwavering ‘forward thrust’ characteristic of the 1 vibration. The Twenty-Five is a strange mixture of exterior and interior forces, and as such alternates between extroverted and introverted behaviour and they make no apologies when these changes are made. They are basically Seven personalities qualified by the 2 and 5 vibrations. Positive Twenty-Fives possess the self-confidence to make maximum use of their multiple talents, but those who suffer from various degrees of negativity waste much of their potential through loss of self-assurance and develop a vulnerable self-image. They do not, however, suffer the same inconsistence as a negative Five, as the analytical, practical and self-sufficient 7 vibration which forms their basic personality stabilises many fluid and changeable characteristics of the emotional 2 and 5 vibrations. At the same time certain aggressive and impulsive traits of the 5 are subdued by the hesitancy of the 2 and the reserve of the 7. A firm belief in themselves is what the Twenty-Five needs most.

A domestic way of life for its own sake will not be seen as a fulfilling career by either of these partners. Independent self-expression is more in keeping with their temperaments than cooperative management of a home and family. The Five’s policy of organising their environment so that it works for them may not succeed with a Twenty-Five partner who operates on firm principles of fairness and equality. In no circumstances will a Twenty-Five fit into a pattern of life determined by another. They are certain to face problems arranging an equal division of authority and responsibility with a Five partner. Even if they meet with some success further problems may arise by the Five’s habit of doing things in fits and starts and will negatively affect the Twenty-Five’s need for consistency and punctuality. All too often the Five may allow their emotions to override wisdom, but the Twenty-Five has control over their emotions whenever they interfere with practical realities. Fives proceed hastily in whatever they do as they do not critically examine the urge to follow up thought and feeling with action. Twenty-Fives can make haste too, but they make haste in leisurely fashion using their analytical powers to sharpen their judgment and sense of values. Consequently, they avoid pitfalls which may impede the progress of impulsive Fives. The existence of non-material and non-physical realities becomes known to many Twenty-Fives at some time or the other. The 2 and 7 vibrations create an awareness of things beyond the normal range of the five senses. Once this occurs feelings of discontent arise from the clash of the material and non-material aspects of life. A Five partner’s exclusive zest for the pleasures of exterior forces and their all too often cynical view of an inner life may create more disturbances.

Though Twenty-Fives may not consider domestic duties a fulfilling career they use their home as a refuge from the tension and turmoil suffered in public life, and make every effort to establish harmony and privacy within the confines of home. They are people who need to alternate periods of activity and interaction with people with periods of privacy and solitude. Fives are certain to find an atmosphere of silence and tranquillity oppressive, and to relieve their tensions they are likely to create scenes that could destroy the Twenty-Five’s hopes for peace and quiet. Some relief will be enjoyed by the Twenty-Five when the Five is away from home. This may happen frequently as Fives do not need the sanctuary of the home for relaxation. They prefer some physical activity in order to unwind and, more importantly, they possess the ability to feel at ease wherever they are. Twenty-Fives do not need as much physical activity. Apart from some direct participation in sport they could dispel their frustrations by identifying with sporting identities in a spectator situation.

The degree of extroversion is much more pronounced in the Five than in the Twenty-Five. This becomes evident in social activity when the Five stands out in any company. It is not in their nature to remain inactive and inconspicuous, nor do they readily accept and fit into conditions as they find them. The presence of a Five in any gathering is a guarantee that things are being changed. Consequently, a Five socialite attracts supporters as well as detractors. Twenty-Five partners are likely to favour their detractors. Those who get close to a Five soon realise that what the Five really wants is action and not the simple pleasures of company. They quickly move away from people who have ceased to provide mental, emotional and physical stimulation. Twenty-Fives refuse to keep pace with the speed and melodrama that is all part and parcel of a Five’s lifestyle. For the most part they are observers rather than prominent actors in a social scene. Unlike the Five who can make themselves temporarily at home in any company, the Twenty-Five needs company of their choice in order to feel at ease. They choose to associate with friends of long standing rather than follow the Five’s practice of a quick turnover of friends and acquaintances. More importantly they look for regular sessions of their own company. Twenty-Fives may quite often deliberately avoid friends or neighbours when they do not feel in the mood to communicate.

Conversation does not languish when a Five makes up a twosome or a group of any size. Regardless of their level of cultural development, speech accompanied by evocative body language, is their favourite form of self-expression. In polished Fives their extraordinary vocal powers are enriched by imagination, enthusiasm, wit and repartee. A Five in whom the subtlety and nicety of decorous social conduct is lacking is usually an incessant talker and intolerant listener. Continuous oral expression is not a characteristic of the Twenty-Five. While the Five speaks because they always need to say something the Twenty-Five speaks only when they have something to say. While a positive Five can be successful in evoking interesting and knowledgeable responses from a Twenty-Five a negative Five may increase the Twenty-Five’s tendency to withdraw into themselves.

Following their general orientation towards outer realities of life and the stimulation of the senses, Fives spend their free time in outdoor activities. Their daring, competitive and adventuresome temperament is on the constant lookout for new challenges. Besides resorting to highly competitive sport in order to vent their pent-up energies Fives may take up gambling games because the 5 vibration contains the ‘soul of the gambler’. As Fives need a frequent change of scene and change of people they associate with they do not look for support or companionship of a partner in their leisure activities. The temporary companions they meet in whatever activity they are in suits them better than the attention of a constant companion. The competitive spirit is reduced in the Twenty-Five by the non-competitive nature of the 2 and 7 vibrations. Also the propensity to take risks, to gamble and court physical danger, natural to the 5 vibration, is almost eliminated by the 2 and 7. Impulsiveness of the plain Five is also replaced in the Twenty-Five by circumspection. Their vibratory structure extends their spirit of adventure and courage into non-physical realms, and the capacity to appreciate and become involved in outer realities of life as well as inner realities of mind and soul. They will refuse to keep up with the tempo of the Five as the fundamental 7 aspect of their personality along with the 2 will include peaceful hobbies associated with nature. Unlike the Five, the Twenty-Five prefers a regular companion in their leisure activities rather than a change of associates with every change of interest. However, they do posses a built-in capacity to go to it alone if a congenial companion cannot be found. They will not settle for second best as they do not feel the need to escape from their own company. A Five may not always be the Twenty-Five’s choice of a companion in many of their activities.

Differences of opinion will be frequent when these partner’s opposite attitudes towards money surface from time to time. Fives are generally indifferent to the value and possession of money, which slips away from their fingers with the same speed that it comes in. Their attraction is to the goods and services money provides for their immediate needs and not for the security and comfort it may provide for the future. They buy what they desire and not always what they can afford. They seldom use money to make money through shrewd investments on a long or medium term basis, but look for quick returns through risky ventures. The Twenty-Five partner may go along with a Five’s spending habits but will do so only up to a point. They set a guard on their desires and keep track of their spending and do not hesitate to pull in the reins as soon as they feel their financial position is being strained. The Five’s proneness to act at once and the Twenty-Five’s tendency to think things over has a considerable bearing on their money management habits.

Fives are spontaneous lovers who are not restricted by inhibiting fears in regard to release of their passionate nature, and are therefore able to abandon themselves to sexual experiences. While Twenty-Fives are equally passionate and are able to match the Five’s sexual drives they are guarded in emotional expression and look for discretion and privacy before they feel free to release their feelings. As spontaneity is inhibited to some degree by self-consciousness Twenty-Fives may resist the Fives amorous urges in inappropriate circumstances. The Five is likely to look to greener pastures if their partners do not provide the constant stimulation and responses they expect. They will not be obliged to do so with a Twenty-Five. Handled correctly, a Twenty-Five is a fascinating lover. Their richly endowed personality structure has depth, imagination, romance, variety and enterprise. All the Five needs to remember when nurturing their intimate relationship is to recognise the Twenty-Five’s need for some personal distance and desist from unnecessary familiarity in the presence of others.

5TH AND 26TH BIRTHDAYS

Two significant facts stand out in this birthday combination indicating basic differences, not only in the vibratory composition of each day, but a good deal in the nature of the vibrations. In the first instance, one is a single digit birthday and the other is a multiple digit birthday. The unqualified power of the 5 vibration forms the overall character of the Five personality born on the 5th day. This individual is easily identifiable because the nature of the 5 vibration is such that it resists, to a large degree, modification of its characteristics by other vibrations in the birth date and name. The 26th day, however, as a multiple digit birthday, produces an individual whose personality is a network of three complementary vibratory forces. The 8 vibration operating at fundamental levels creates an Eight personality. But, unlike the unqualified Five this is a qualified Eight as the 2 and 6 vibrations are component forces of the integral personality. A Twenty-Six, therefore, is not as easily identifiable as an Eight as a Five is identifiable as a Five. The second distinct feature is the odd and even distribution of numbers which places these birthdays at opposite poles in the manifestation of the vibratory energies. The 5 is an active vibration and the 2, 6 and 8 individually and collectively are receptive forces. The identities of Five and Twenty-Six individuals are therefore established by imaginative, vibrant, tense, alert and restless energies of the former and the deliberate, practical, composed and stable energies of the latter.

The attraction of opposites usually results in couples finding themselves with partners who approach life from different points of view, having different priorities and different expectations. Depending on the interplay of their particular vibratory energies these differences may be more extensive and unyielding in some couples and less in others. As few, if any, similarities appear in their dispositions, a Five/Twenty-Six combination will fall into the first category.

Of all vibratory forces symbolised by single digits the 5 is the most volatile by nature. Influenced by the planet Mercury it possesses typical mercurial qualities of changeability variability, impermanence, inconsistency, mobility, versatility, agitation and restlessness. When animating in the human personality it produces individuals who are open to every experience that comes along, but cannot be tied down or confined to a limited or humdrum sphere of activity. Personal freedom is their breath of life. Using other expansive qualities such as curiosity, physical courage, sensuality, personal magnetism and a keen sense of adventure they aim to live their lives to the full, and they do so with a naturalness that may be disturbing to conservative types such as a Twenty-Six. Activated by impulse, nervous energy and unpredictability, the measure of their conduct is often not what they ought to do but what they dare to do. They are emotionally oriented people who thrive on sensation and melodrama and are known for their willingness to try anything at least once. Their overall outlook on life is not generally conducive to success in traditional relationships based on mutual concessions and the subordination of personal demands for the good of the family. Many Fives are likely to overlook role expectations and continue an egocentric lifestyle.

The Twenty-Six personality is not open to new experiences as readily as the Five. A sense of adventure and discovery is not as compelling in receptive vibrations. Storage of energy is the nature of receptive vibrations as opposed to expenditure of energy by active forces. The strong emotional element in the Twenty-Six introduced by the 2 and 8 vibrations is held in check by the mental and reasoning qualities of the 6 vibration. Whereas, ‘to think is to act’ with the impetuous Five, the Twenty-Six’s thought processes are not as promptly transformed into action as they are governed by deliberation, hesitancy and consideration for others. Consolidation, security and permanence through conservative action are factors more in keeping with their temperament than movement and change. Their customary ‘wait and see’ policy could often infuriate the impulsive Five. By a Five partner’s standards a Twenty-Six will be slow in thought and movement and slow in responding to changes and the introduction of new and unconventional features into their lifestyle. Twenty-Sixes of course, will accuse Fives of being much too precipitate. The physical presence of a Five evokes enthusiasm, excitement, tension, controversy, noise and constant activity while the presence of a Twenty-Six does much to allay anxiety, agitation, argument, and restlessness by introducing harmony, tranquillity and moderation. Unfortunately, the highly tensed Five is unable to cope with a passive partner or function within a quiescent atmosphere. Both consciously and unconsciously they are likely to create situations that will disturb the Twenty-Six’s sense of harmony, but will be in keeping with their own incident-packed lifestyle. No amount of interaction is likely to bring about an appreciable change in either party. The Twenty-Six’s craving for balance, and restoration of balance disturbed, will constantly work counter to the Five’s need for sensation and variety.

Organisation rather than authoritative leadership is the policy adopted by both partners in all their affairs, particularly in the domestic scene. However, their motives and methods are vastly different. Left to fend for themselves the Fives’ domestic affairs are usually disorganised. Very few, if any, possess the self-discipline, self-sacrifice and patience to abide by the regular routine and timetables required for the competent running of a home. Hence, the Five tends to organise their environment in such a manner that it works for them while they remain free to engage in public activities. It is here that they find their real field of endeavour. Beyond making themselves available in all emergencies and other unusual events, they are not cooperative partners in the accepted sense. They entertain no guilt feelings if a greater share of domestic responsibility falls to the lot of their partners, and this is what will take place in a Five/Twenty-Six relationship. Twenty-Six people not only lead well organised and well conducted personal lives and also show an inclination that is innate rather than acquired to look after domestic affairs. An additional reason for doing so in this partnership will be the Five’s lack of sustained, interest in household matters. The numbers 2 and 6 are among the strongest home loving and family oriented vibrations. In fact, the 6 may be said to be the strongest in this regard. Reinforced by the organisational ability of the 8, Twenty-Sixes prove themselves to be totally competent home managers. Their preference would be to conduct their daily business in cooperation, in consultation and in mutual agreement with an equally interested and efficient partner, but this ideal situation will not be enjoyed with a restless Five partner. The absence of a supportive partner will certainly be felt due to a certain degree of indecisiveness in their nature.

An outgoing and competitive form of extroversion is characteristic of all Five personalities. Consequently, physical activities are given priority over parlour interaction with people. In sedate and non-competitive ways a reverse form is shown by the Twenty-Six. As naturally gregarious people, participation, companionship, sociability, good fellowship and conversation are practices preferred to physical and nervous exertion and the desire for acclaim and prominence. The Five’s dynamic disposition makes an immediate impact in social circles, but controversy often follows their footsteps due to their outspoken and non-conformist style. Their spontaneity is not inhibited by too close a concern for social norms and the sensitivities of people. Performance is more important to them than persons. On the other hand, persons are of equal or greater concern to the Twenty-Six than performance and achievement. They establish an endearing and enduring influence in their social circles by conducting themselves in an unobtrusive and non-controversial manner. While motivation, stimulation, incentive, strategy, hilarity, pleasure and a fast turn-over of friendships are some of the qualities introduced by the Five into social life, justice, mediation, guardianship, service, counselling and long-term friendship are introduced by the Twenty-Six. Fives seldom delay or withhold action when emotionally hurt or disturbed and, as a result, they attract a higher incidence of social problems. Twenty-Sixes have second thoughts which they weigh and consider before acting or reacting, and seldom if ever cause conflict or controversy. As guests Twenty-Sixes never overstay their welcome, which Fives are likely to do. As hosts Twenty-Sixes are known for their extended hospitality but the lack of domestic traits prevents the Five from being the consummate hosts.

Fives are usually critical of others while judging their own behaviour generously. Their speedy thought processes followed through by an uncommonly easy flow of words make them fearful critics and formidable opponents in an oral contest. In addition, their speech is reinforced by demonstrative and evocative body language. In personal relations they use the medium of touch which often contains more meaning and persuasive powers than mere words. Twenty-Sixes are usually critical of themselves and kindly in their judgment of others. In contrast to the loud spoken and emphatic Five they are soft spoken, unhurried and thoughtful in speech. Fives can, on the one hand, be suggestive and probing, and on the other, self-centred and one-sided in conversation. Twenty-Sixes have no need to probe as they attract the confidence of others. They are patient and sympathetic listeners with a keen interest in psychology and other related studies. They are ideal conversationalists who can engage in any topic without causing misunderstanding or hostility. Fives have a tendency to offer obscure and confusing arguments in favour of some of their outlandish statements and actions. They frequently lose themselves in a saturation of words and emotions leaving the more rational Twenty-Six completely at sea. Although no irrational remark goes unnoticed the Twenty-Six is unlikely to take up their Five partners in frequent arguments.

As people on different wavelengths have different leisure requirements the speedy and restless Five and the placid and easy-going Twenty-Six will certainly follow different lines of relaxation in their free time. Fives do not adapt themselves to conditions as they are but almost immediately set about changing them to meet their own style of living. Twenty-Sixes usually make the best of situations as they find them while Fives are oriented towards discovery and adventure and respond to a wider array of stimuli. Twenty-Sixes choose familiar and well trodden paths. Fives need energetic and competitive outdoor activities which offer elements of risk, danger and chance in order to release pent-up tensions and satisfy their desire for prominence. Twenty-Sixes choose many home based and home related hobbies for relaxation. Literature, music and general home maintenance may take up much of their leisure time. Fives, who are natural travellers and wanderers, will find it difficult to persuade their Twenty-Six partners to leave home for extended periods. The peace and serenity of home hold greater attraction is to the Twenty-Six than the hazards of travel. They are particularly averse to bodily discomfort and other inconveniences often associated with travel.

Money matters are likely to cause more friction between these partners than other aspects of their relationship. Fives handle their finances in the same non-attached manner they deal with all other experiences. Immediate goals are much more vital than distant objectives. As they do not suffer anxiety over financial security but instead possess the inner confidence of genuine survivors, they do not attach much importance to good money management. Confident that the future looks after itself they spend more freely on their several personal wants. In most instances, the more they earn the more they spend. A spending spree could be indulged in to solve an emotional crisis or to celebrate a windfall. In the case of the Twenty-Six anxiety over their financial position is innate in their nature, but so is the talent for good financial management. Unlike the optimistic Five, they are attached to their possessions as these provide a sense of security and belonging, so essential to their wellbeing. A regular income, the capacity to meet all their commitments and the chance to provide for the future are among their high priorities. The influence of the Five may broaden some of their interests and change some of their conservative habits but their basic concern for responsible spending habits will remain unchanged. The prosperity of this partnership depends on the arrangement of its finances by the Twenty-Six.

The Five’s most urgent need is a clear sense of purpose and a steady sense of direction. The Twenty-Six’s most urgent need is ego strength and self-confidence. Both personalities can acquire these qualities through the 1 vibration operating in some degree of strength in other areas of their birth date and names. The birth month is usually the most effective position. Positive expression of their attributes and potential can be expected when such is the case. Otherwise, a desultory lifestyle by the Five and an unfulfilled life by the Twenty-Six may result. The desire to make a success of their commitment will be stronger in the Twenty-Six and more sacrifices will be made by this partner. Self-love is strong in the Five. Though they are uninhibited and accessible personalities their love nature is not as deep and abiding or selfless as that of the Twenty-Six. Many Fives could put on an appearance of affection, loyalty and virtue whenever it suits their purpose but this will change with circumstances. Twenty-Sixes, in contrast, may not be as emotionally demonstrative but their love is much less personal. While a strong element of sexuality is always present in the Five’s loving nature, a non-sexual and therefore selfless love can be shown by the Twenty-Six. Close contact with a Five is usually on a physical level while in close contact with a Twenty-Six sensuousness can be excluded when necessary and replaced by companionship on a non-sexual level. They will carefully set aside time to be alone with their partners but a Five may fear loss of their individuality and freedom if they allow too close a relationship.

5TH AND 27TH BIRTHDAYS

Single digit birthdays of a uniform composition and multiple digit birthdays of a multiform composition could combine in three different ways. Firstly, the combination of single digit birthdays presents a concentration of personality traits and clearly defined potential. Secondly, a single digit birthday and a multiple digit birthday feature a concentration of traits in one and a multiplicity of traits in the other. Thirdly, two multiple digit birthdays contain a profusion of attributes and amplified potential. In the second instance, as in the case of the 5th and 27th days, the multiple digits may appear to offer certain advantages over the single digit insofar as it possesses three equal and interacting aspects or vibratory forces as opposed to the single facet of the one digit of the 5th day. In addition, when the characteristics of these vibratory forces happen to be complementary and correlative, an intensification of these sympathetic aspects takes place. This condition applies to the 27th day and the Twenty-Seven personality. Not only do the 2, 7 and 9 vibrations comprising their vibratory structures have many complementary features but they also provide balance to the personality as a whole by operating from different planes of expression. The sensitive, sentimental and psychic 2 on the emotional plane complements the intuitive, spiritual, and practical 7 from the physical plane. Both forces harmonise agreeably with the knowledgeable, humanistic and comprehensive nature of the 9 vibration on the mental plane. Their interaction produces an individual with an introspective nature and consequently a deep perception into the nature of things. However, not all Twenty-Sevens may possess sufficient self-assurance and ego strength to exploit their full potential unless the incentive to do so is provided from other areas of influence. People using mundane standards of judgment may look upon Twenty-Sevens as puzzling personalities, especially when they show a tendency to turn away from a too physical and too materialistic lifestyle, preferring stronger cultural and spiritual values.

With a single digit birthday it may be argued that a concentration or centralisation of characteristics and talents creates a tightening of power, thus safeguarding the personality from the possibility of opposing and distracting vibrations in the birthday. This is a valid argument as the one-pointed nature of the birthday is more conducive to success in a particular field of endeavour than many a multiple digit birthday which could pull the individual in several ways harming their sense of direction. However, this cannot be strictly applied to the Five personality born on the 5th day due to the unique nature of the 5 vibration. Its purpose is experience in every possible phase of life. It is not confined to a particular field of activity but, without exception, has freedom of expression in every aspect or direction in life. By occupying the centre position in the numerological chart (which is a symbolic representation of the nature of the vibrations) the 5 enters and functions within all areas of the physical, emotional, mental and intuitive planes of expression. There are advantages as well as disadvantages in this pattern of expression. Although the personality is versatile, adaptable, alert, resourceful, expansive and progressive, its attendant traits such as impulse, changeability, speed, restlessness and unpredictability may undo much good work, impede personal progress and impair relationships with others. Lack of depth and permanence usually results from the spread or coverage of a single vibratory force over all aspects of life. The actions and affairs of a Five personality, if not kept under constant control, will be of a tidal nature in the sense that they enter into an activity with energy and enthusiasm but, as quickly, withdraw as soon as a more attractive interest presents itself. Their greatest need is an additional vibration in their personality complex which holds them, within reasonable bounds, to a sense of direction and a sense of permanence. The 1 vibration is the only force that can successfully control the volatile 5. Five personalities who have this vibration in their birth months are the most fortunate as this is the strongest point of influence upon the personality formed by the birthday vibrations. These are positive Fives who can make the most constructive use of their multi-talented constitutions. In a partnership with a Twenty-Seven their initiative, enterprise, courage, optimism and organising talents will be invaluable contributions. Other Fives may be too insistent on the freedom to do as they please and will not make ideal partners for responsible Twenty-Sevens. The Twenty-Seven too needs the 1 vibration, although for different reasons. It prevents them from under-selling themselves, invests self-confidence, helps the capacity for decisive action, and builds a good self-image and a sense of pride in their achievements. These Twenty-Sevens use diplomacy, wisdom and subtlety to deal with their volatile Five partners. Those who do not have the 1 vibration in some degree of strength fail to live up to their full potential and may develop certain introverted tendencies. They could be overwhelmed by certain overbearing and manipulative ways of the Five. Their habit of self-analysis, however, helps them appreciate constructive criticism from others, whereas the Five’s self-complacency forces them to challenge any form of critical analysis. Concentrating on the present Fives forget the past and show scant interest in the future. The past is sacred to the Twenty-Seven, the present offers them opportunities for self-expansion and the future is a state to be prepared for.

The five physical senses are more alert and active through the 5 vibration than any other. Because of this, Five personalities are drawn more towards the sensuous and physical sides of life than they are to other aspects. They are totally extroverted people, with magnetic auras which have a special attraction to the opposite sex. They suffer no anxiety or inhibitions in their contacts with the opposite sex or with strangers. With curiosity as a strong motivating force they grasp outer realities of things very quickly, but most Fives are too impatient and fast moving to spend time in specialisation, research and analysis. Consequently, they experience the world generally in its surface aspects and give out opinions based on external observation. They are also complacent with their own state of development and seldom spend time on self-study. Twenty-Sevens do not rely as much on the testimony of the five senses. They possess, in addition, awareness beyond the normal range of the senses. Not satisfied with outer realities they use their natural gifts of mental curiosity, intuition, discrimination and diagnosis to delve into inner realities of things, and reserve their conclusions, for the most part. On the few occasions they voice their opinions they are seldom challenged by the average listener. A Five partner will not be a keen listener and will therefore not benefit from a Twenty-Seven’s store of knowledge.

In their own ways both Fives and Twenty-Sevens are unconventional, courageous and adventuresome people. Fives revel in the maelstrom of worldly affairs. They do not take to homemaking as a career as they need a much wider sphere of movement, activity and contact with people. Their restless mentality and excessive nervous energy is just too much to be confined to the intolerable regularity of domestic life, an atmosphere they find oppressive. A Twenty-Seven who expects cooperation from a Five partner in the domestic scene will be disappointed. The Five will actually use all sorts of strategies to pass on as much responsibility as they can to their partners while they expend their energies outside the home. Twenty-Sevens cannot disregard the magnetic pull of the mental and metaphysical realms which results in a clash between the practical aspects of life and their introspective temperaments. Their many tender spots are easily hurt when they meet with aggressiveness, self-centredness and competition in the hustle and bustle of public life. They are attracted to and attached to their homes not necessarily for the love of domestic duties but more as a refuge from the tension and turmoil of public life. They do their utmost to establish an environment of peace, privacy and tranquillity. In association with a tense and restless Five partner this will not be easy. Fives do not release their tensions in silence and repose or through music, literature and meditative pleasures but instead continue to indulge in a different form of activity. A change is a substitute for a rest in the case of the Five. Alternatively, the Twenty-Seven needs periodic withdrawals into solitude, preferably in natural surroundings. A much greater use of the home is usually made by the Twenty-Seven as they invariably take up a greater share of domestic duties. In addition, this personality has a greater sense of obligation and responsibility. A sensitive conscience is touched by neglect of any of the tasks they accept as part of their responsibility. They lead by example using diplomacy, compassion, understanding and self-sacrifice. Fives who are forced into domestic roles could be domineering, disorganised and irresponsible. They use every excuse to go out of home in order to divert their minds from the restlessness they experience when they remain too long at home. Neither partner will be capable of fitting into a pattern of life determined by the other. The relationship can survive only when the Twenty-Seven accepts the Five’s need for freedom, variety and speed, and the Five accepts the Twenty-Seven’s need for a serene, studious and cultivated lifestyle.

The contrast between a Five’s exuberant disposition and a Twenty-Seven’s unobtrusive manner becomes evident in their social needs and the general manner in which they conduct themselves in the presence of others. These differences, over-looked in casual or initial encounters with each other, may become tiresome in a close relationship. Both personalities cultivate friends and acquaintances from all walks of life, but not necessarily the same persons or groups. The emphasis of the Five’s social life is on activity with human relations taking a secondary place. The reverse is the mode of the Twenty-Seven. Human relations are their highest priority. Fives fearlessly enter any assembly and if prevailing conditions do not suit them they set about changing them, but Twenty-Sevens are selective of their company and the need for change seldom arises. Fives make no secret of whom or what they dislike or regard as inferior, and usually sidestep anything that could be equal or superior to them. Twenty-Sevens make no secret of whom or what they admire and usually remain silent on unpleasant persons or situations. Fives generally admire in others and desire for themselves physical prowess but Twenty-Sevens look for cultural and spiritual advancement above other considerations. They are more susceptible to exterior forces plying upon their sensibilities but Fives not only grapple with them but use their initiative to forestall many unwelcome situations.

In communication with each other and with others, Fives hold an advantage over the Twenty-Seven in oral expression in the sense that they express themselves forcefully with an easy flow of words, demonstrative body language and with a puzzling habit of interpreting facts to suit their arguments. Their thought processes are so speedy, nimble and flexible that they can overcome any lack of specialised knowledge. They usually make an immediate, but not necessarily a lasting, impact on their audience. Faced with an onslaught of a Five’s verbiage a Twenty-Seven partner may quickly retreat into silence, holding the view that a verbal encounter will get them nowhere. As opposed to a Five’s outspoken and often loud spoken manner the Twenty-Seven is a soft spoken, well poised and knowledgeable speaker. They may not make an instant impact but the essence of their speech has a lasting effect upon listeners. Unpleasant people and situations are handled with politeness, patience and nice turn of phrase. Flexibility is used not only to avoid confrontation but also to prevent embarrassment and hurt feelings. Using every means at their disposal Fives are more interested in gaining personal satisfaction by scoring points, but Twenty-Sevens are more interested in establishing the truth of a matter than fighting for personal distinction.

Fives use their leisure time in pleasurable pursuits associated for the most part with physical activity. They are strongly competitive sportspersons who would take up challenges from all competitors as well as against the forces of nature. In professional life as well as in leisure activities they look for opportunities that offer elements of chance, risk and danger. Twenty-Sevens use much of their free time in self-development. Their outdoor activities are usually non-competitive and associated with the natural sciences. Gardening, fishing, bushwalking, birdwatching and similar hobbies taken up by them will not attract and hold the interest of their restless Five partners; nor will they cope with the tensions, unpredictability and speed associated with the Five’s pastimes.

The partnership’s finances will often be strained as both have generous spending habits. The Five’s personal expenses are always high due to many self-indulgent habits, careless spending methods and the absence of anxiety over their financial position. They will not attempt to restrain themselves or their partners. Twenty-Sevens may make some effort to curtail personal expenditure and use money constructively but their generosity towards others could take away whatever they save. They worry about their financial position but may not have sufficient strength to do much about it. They are a soft touch, easily imposed upon when their sentiments are aroused. A Five partner is certain to take advantage of this weakness.

Emotion and sentiment will play significant roles in this relationship. Both partners are emotionally charged by nature. The Five’s emotions are expressed openly and sometimes aggressively. For the most part they are unconscious of the very visible display of emotion. They are, however, able to recover quickly from emotional turmoil. The Twenty-Seven’s emotions are for the greater part subdued as they are usually conscious and embarrassed by emotional displays. However, their emotions do burst out occasionally when they can no longer be contained. Their recovery from emotional turmoil takes a much longer time. Fives may be emotional but they are not as sentimental as the Twenty-Seven, in the romantic sense. Twenty-Seven’s need to give themselves sentimentally as well as physically is much stronger than that of the Five who can be satisfied with physical release only. In love play they are not as centred in the consciousness of their own pleasure but put the needs of their loved one on the same level as their own.

5TH AND 28TH BIRTHDAYS

As a prelude to the examination of a 5th and 28th birthday combination the reader with a deeper interest in compatibilities will benefit from a perusal of the chapter on the 1st and 5th birthdays. One and Five personalities combine in both sets of birthdays but the Five is partnered with an unqualified One in the first instance (1st and 5th) and with a qualified One in the second (5th and 28th). Though the Five’s relationship in each case will be generally the same, the qualified nature of the Twenty-Eight/One – (2 + 8 = 10 = 1) introduces a modification of certain One characteristics and an intensification of certain others. Vibratory forces brought into play in a Five/Twenty-Eight relationship are not quite conducive to an interlocking union by virtue of complementary qualities. Counteracting forces may frequently frustrate attempts towards cooperative living.

The direct influence of the planet Mercury is responsible for the volatile and mercurial nature of the 5 vibration. Consequently, Five personalities, both consciously and unconsciously exercise their rights to personal freedom above other considerations. The attractions of wealth, power and security cannot tempt them to surrender personal liberty; nor do they let family and social obligations compromise their freedom. Their aim is to attain worldly success, family comforts and social popularity while preserving their freedom of thought and action. Most Fives succeed in their efforts in public life but the same degree of success may not be achieved in private life as they unwittingly fail to give enough of themselves towards establishing intimate and harmonious bonds – especially in a long-term relationship. Originating from their sense of freedom is a compulsion to experience everything life has to offer, and this is made easy by the 5 vibration’s accessibility to all planes of expression. It is also the only active vibration that is emotionally oriented. Fives cannot divest themselves from emotionalism when they move through the physical, mental and intuitive planes of expression. Impulse, impetuosity, passion, impatience, effervescence and exhilaration are some emotionally oriented qualities that activate the Five in anything they say or do. They become restless, troublesome, unmanageable and irresponsible when their need for change, variety, movement and novelty is frustrated by a regular, disciplined and conventional lifestyle. Though Fives are amongst the most self-propelled and self-reliant individuals many experience difficulty maintaining a steady course of action. They surrender too easily to the negative aspects of curiosity, versatility and adaptability when they let themselves be pulled in several directions before some degree of specialisation and stability has been acquired. A built-in safeguard which helps them maintain direction and continuity is what they need most. The only force that resists distractions and combines self-propulsion with strength of purpose is the 1 vibration. Five personalities who possess this vibration in their birth months overcome to a large extent their natural inclination to chop and change and go on to make constructive use of their multi-talented nature. A tempestuous, yet workable partnership between these Fives and Twenty-Eights can be expected. Other Fives need four or more ‘1’ letters in their full name (A, J or S which symbolise the 1 vibration), or a given name which reduces to 1, to be able to exercise some measure of control over their changeable nature. Fives who do not have this self-directing force lead disorderly and unsettled lives which will be incompatible with the lifestyle followed by a Twenty-Eight.

Though Five personalities cannot be labelled as a particular type they are easily recognisable by their innumerable extroverted traits. However, the Twenty-Eight is not as open to identification on account of the three-fold nature of their personality structure. Although the emotionally oriented 2 and 8 vibrations stand out as prominent features of the 28th day the underlying 1 vibration is in fact the controlling force. It not only controls emotional expression but more importantly provides the incentive for maximum use of the best 2 and 8 qualities in addition to its own principal traits of individuality and ego strength. Underestimation and underselling of their talents are negative traits that cannot be attributed to people influenced by this vibration. With these inbuilt features Twenty-Eights are potentially positive individuals. The interaction of the 1 and 8 vibrations intensifies many characteristics that are common to both such as authority, leadership, willpower, ambition, organisation, dependability, loyalty, pride, conservatism and strength of purpose. While the straightforward One personality is essentially egoistic and ego-centred the Twenty-Eight/One has much broader perspectives and finer sensibilities due to the interaction of the 2 and 8 vibrations which provide a greater perception into the feelings and problems of others. Having the capacity to combine authority with impartiality a strong sense of justice is inherent in the nature of all Twenty-Eights. They may often be called upon to act as negotiators, arbitrators, mediators and consultants, especially in business matters.

While Fives measure life in terms of experience and adventure in the physical world using a spontaneous and nonconformist approach the standards of Twenty-Eights apply to the possession of power and wealth in the material world acquired by hard work and conventional methods. Impatient and restless Fives demand quick results for their efforts and promptly move on to something new if they are not satisfied, but Twenty-Eights, once set upon a course of action, work their way through until they have reached their goals. Fortunately, they seldom fail in their efforts despite their powers of reconstruction being not as speedy as those of the Five. Fives can pick themselves up from adversity and make a fresh start without regret or remorse for past failures.

The natural attraction of opposites may initially be responsible for bringing these partners together but may disappear once they settle down to the serious business of living. The Twenty-Eight’s aura of warmth and dependability will not escape the attention of the discerning Five while the placid manner of the Twenty-Eight could be inspired and enlivened by the Five’s sparkle and enthusiasm. However, in due course, personality differences may surface which could cause each partner to withdraw into their own style of doing things. To overcome this possibility a persistent effort will be needed by both partners. Unfortunately, it is not quite in the nature of a Five to accommodate to the ways of a partner or agree to mutual responsibilities. Their natural inclination is to value their independence and personal rights and needs somewhat more than their obligations. The Twenty-Eight personality, however, is ideal for a partnership based on equal responsibility. Assuming their share of duties willingly they expect a similar response from their partners. In the domestic scene, in particular, a Five partner is not likely to fit into the businesslike and regulated manner in which a Twenty-Eight would expect a home to be run. Nor would a Twenty-Eight settle down to the very casual and even haphazard style in which a Five manages domestic affairs. The fact is that neither partner is really domesticated. Both belong to public life. The Twenty-Eight in particular belongs to the world of business, commerce, administration and organisation. However, their sense of order, responsibility and stability prevents them from neglecting the domestic scene. Fives are too restless to adapt to the daily rounds of home duties. They thrive on the challenges, competition, speed, movement and various other hazards experienced in public life and the thrills and spills experienced during leisure activities. Neither partner is temperamentally suited to live in the shadow of an authoritative person. Both insist on following their own decisions in their own style. When confronted with alternatives between established and traditional pathways and untested and challenging courses the Twenty-Eight will prefer the former while the Fives will unhesitatingly opt for the latter. Clearly defined territories are therefore needed to avoid conflict between the Five’s speedy and fearless translation of thought into action and the Twenty-Eight’s deliberate and cautious methods of progress.

Their movement and conduct in social life will also be governed by the conservative and discriminating disposition of the Twenty-Eight and the open-minded and cosmopolitan nature of the Five. Friendliness is an attribute shared by both but the Twenty-Eight’s attitudes are tinged with a good measure of reserve and selectivity while a back-slapping, hale and hearty approach is natural to the Five. Despite the busy lives they lead, Twenty-Eights keep up old friendships and use correspondence, telecommunication and other means to keep in touch when physical communication is not possible. Fives allow their busy lives to overtake their allegiance to friends. Out of sight is usually out of mind to the Five, but this is not necessarily due to disloyalty but instead is simply caused by other distractions and involvement with new friends and interests. Unlike their circumspect Twenty-Eight partners they are instantly reactive to the stimulation and excitement of anything new. Twenty-Eights may not cope willingly with the fast turnover of friends and acquaintances and many physical activities in the Five’s social rounds. Fives are invariably involved in some sort of melodrama which may embarrass the Twenty-Eight’s sensibilities. While Fives place no imposition on the social behaviour of their partners, Twenty-Eights usually expect them to contribute to the enhancement of their social status. A Five partner may not be impressed by these social values and ignore them completely.

The Five individual’s free and easy disposition and the Twenty Eight’s orderly mentality become evident in oral expression as well. Fives say what they like with a breezy frankness. When the occasions demand, using unrestrained body language, they are adepts at flattery and persuasion, unrelenting as critics and formidable debaters. If they argue and raise objections they do so not only for the love of self-expression but also with the object of being individualistic and not being swayed by the views of others. They are impatient listeners who seldom let others finish their sentences. While Fives do not inhibit spontaneity by too close a watch on the need for brevity and accuracy, Twenty-Eights speak slowly as they measure their words carefully. They resent being interrupted as they spend time weighing issues while speaking. Their facts are seldom distorted and the feelings of others are taken into consideration. In a battle of words the Twenty-Eight will choose to withdraw realising the futility of arguing with the Five who will not hesitate to resort to every possible subterfuge in order to maintain their points of view.

Home oriented and home based hobbies are not likely to attract either partner. Following their energetic and competitive nature Fives participate in a variety of sport, especially those which satisfy their need to court danger, take chances and flirt with other hazards. The thrill of the chase often holds greater fascination than the eventual outcome. They are natural wanderers and travellers who feel at ease in the strangest of places. Games of chance attract more Five participants than any other type. These pastimes keep Fives away from home and in many instances separate them from their partners during non-working hours. A Twenty-Eight will avoid many of these pastimes as they gain no thrills from flirtation with dangerous and speculative ventures and travels. Their competitive spirit is directed into traditional sport as players, coaches and administrators. Collecting sporting memorabilia may be a hobby taken up by some Twenty-Eights.

The Twenty-Eight will be disillusioned with the Five’s support, or lack of it, in regard to financial matters. As with most other material effects Fives are not attached to money but use it purely as a means to enrich and expand their experiences in life. Forgetting the past and optimistic of the future they concentrate on the here and now. As opportunist and enterprising people they make money one way or the other, however, their carefree methods of handling money may frequently cause financial embarrassment. A saving habit cannot be formed as personal expenses often exceed income. Twenty-Eights, by contrast, are competent and responsible money managers, although their expertise is applied to the affairs of others with greater diligence than to their own. In a relationship with a Five they may be forced to pay more attention to their private finances as the Five cannot be relied upon. As security conscious people they build for the future and are never short of money in an emergency. They will try to live within their means rejecting the Five’s readiness to live on credit. The only occasions they may be persuaded to spend unwisely are those in which their sentiments have been aroused by family members.

The few similarities in the personality structures of Fives and Twenty-Eights are more conducive to material success than personal intimacy or togetherness. The Five’s impetuous open personality is so animated that they could fall in and out of love with a suddenness that bewilders the average person. Only a very special type of partner can hold the devotion of a Five for long. They could be ‘in love’ as they conceive the condition with more than one person at the same time. Sensuality, freedom from inhibitions, conventionality, jealousy and non-possessiveness are essential elements in the Five’s loving nature. The slightest attempt by a partner to place restrictions on their movements will be interpreted as a violation of their rights as free individuals and also jeopardise the tenuous hold their partners have on them. Fives form intimate relationships only on their terms. A Twenty-Eight will not agree to these terms as their standards run counter to those of the Five. They are not as disturbed and distracted by the magnetism of the opposite sex and therefore their love and loyalty to a single partner is seldom endangered. Their aim is to use the unified power of a partnership for advancement in the material world. They are possessive of their loved ones and proud of their achievements expecting love, loyalty and duty to be reciprocated. Behind a mask of authority there is an innate kindness and sense of justice and fair play. In the case of the Five, behind a mask of bonhomie may lay a good measure of psychological callousness. They think less about their duties and obligations and more about their rights. They are able to enjoy life without letting their actions turn into moral issues but Twenty-Eights are prone to weigh the rights and wrongs of their actions. The Twenty-Eight’s sexual needs are as strong as the Five’s but they are not expressed with the same imagination, experimentation and spontaneity.

5TH AND 29TH BIRTHDAYS

Excess of emotionalism is invariably the cause of stormy and turbulent relationships. The emotionally controlled nature of one partner alone is often sufficient to create an unstable situation, however unflappable the disposition of the other partner. Alternatively, when both partners are emotionally oriented a highly volatile relationship is inevitable. This is a condition exemplified in a combination of persons with the 5th and 29th birthdays. The interplay of a multiplicity of personality traits peculiar to these birthdays, all of which are emotionally based, creates a shifting foundation and an uncertain outcome in this relationship.

The vibratory energies of single digit birthdays usually manifest in certain specific directions showing obvious strength in some and a general weakness or lack of interest in others. The exception to the rule is the 5th day governed by the 5 vibration. Based in the centre of the emotional plane it strikes out in all directions embracing physical, emotional, mental and intuitive modes of expression. Its diffusive nature is the direct result of the influence of the planet Mercury. Volatile, mercurial, fast moving, alert, changeable, unsettled, restless, highly strung and intractable are some epithets that come to mind in relation to this vibration, and consequently the Five personality. It is too active, aggressive and elusive a vibration to be modified appreciably by counteracting forces from other areas of the birth date or name. Individuality and the need for personal freedom are the outstanding features of all Fives. They are potentially ‘Jacks and Jills’ of all trades. They are versatile, adaptable, enthusiastic, progressive and optimistic. However, there are negative aspects of these qualities which many Fives are subject to such as the absence of steadfastness, a sense of permanence and a clear sense of direction. These drawbacks can be overcome by the presence of the self-disciplined and one-pointed 1 vibration. Without altering the Five’s overall nature this built-in safeguard will help these individuals to complete whatever task or course of action they undertake and acquire some form of specialisation and permanence in their lifestyle. Their emotions will also be brought under control to some extent. The 4 and 7 vibrations could do the same but not as positively as the 1. Fives who do not possess any of these physically oriented or down-to-earth vibrations lead unsettled lives and find it difficult to conform or adjust to a relationship based on traditional values of partnership, permanence, self-sacrifice and self-adjustment. Whether positively or negatively directed Five personalities demand more of their partners than they are prepared to give in return. They may have some early success with a Twenty-Nine in this respect but this favourable situation from their point of view will not continue for long. The Twenty-Nine’s over-generous nature has its limits and once their feelings have been hurt by the realisation that the Five has taken advantage of their open-hearted ways they withdraw their loyalty without hesitation.

Emotion will not be the only cause of disquiet and turmoil. The complicated personality structures of both partners will also hinder their chances of interacting agreeably or synchronising their likes and dislikes. The mutable and mobile nature of the Five alone is sufficient to frustrate chances of a stable and interlocking relationship. The problem is aggravated when the Five is matched with a partner with an even more complex personality structure such as the Twenty-Nine. Aggressive and subjective attitudes of the Five are replaced in the Twenty-Nine by objectivity, generosity, impressionability, idealism and sympathy. Fives use their extroverted talents to get what they want by direct or indirect means. They are adept at counteracting and counter blasting anything or anyone that does not fit into their scheme of things, and equally good at extricating themselves from difficult situations. Twenty-Nines do not as a rule need to go after and get what they want in the same forceful manner. Subject to the law of attraction they draw to themselves much of their needs. Their sensitive constitution also adds psychic, intuitive, precognitive and diagnostic powers. Their emotions are of a more delicate nature permeating their minds as well as their bodies. Subject to changes of mood brought upon by sensitive reactions to their environment they could fluctuate between exhilaration and depression. As strong mystical, humanitarian and impersonal elements intermingle with physical needs they are often torn between the upward pull of their spiritual nature and the downward draw of their physical nature. Without the support of the 1 vibration a Twenty-Nine could be more temperamental, unpredictable, explosive and unsettled than a Five in a similar condition. Fives generally maintain jovial dispositions and remain one-pointed in their pursuit of physical pleasures as they are seldom distressed by moral and spiritual issues.

Driven by their impulsive and reckless temperaments a negative Five and a negative Twenty-Nine could rush into an intimate relationship but as soon as they get down to the business of sharing and performing practical responsibilities their deficiencies surface. Positive partners will also experience disillusionment in regard to role expectations as they are not entirely free from the disorderly pull of conflicting vibrations. Distribution of authority and the assignment of duties are matters that may not be settled amicably. Though neither partner will want full control along with the responsibilities of leadership they will not be prepared to surrender their rights to decisions relating to their own activities and to the welfare of the partnership. Fives are too impatient and pre-emptive to await and abide by the decisions of others. The tendency to make instant decisions is an aspect of their dynamic personality that could be quite fascinating at the early stages of friendship but the early impact will wear off when, in time, their Twenty-Nine partners feel that many of their decisions are self-centred or made without sufficient regard to consequences. Twenty-Nines could be as spontaneous and impetuous as Fives but their decisions are not as self-centred. The welfare and wellbeing of others are given equal and often greater consideration than their own. A Five partner is one who could readily take advantage of this situation. They could also without hesitation use the particle ‘No’ and not feel guilty or at fault but Twenty-Nines hesitate to make up their minds one way or another and may entertain guilt feelings when they do not give their consent. Both partners are easily carried away by enthusiasm and in these moods they are likely to make promises to each other, and others, that they are not likely to keep when they return to their normal tenor of living.

The crucial test that will decide their future will be set in the domestic arena. The extroverted and restless temperaments of both partners are out of place in an environment that restricts movement and interaction with a wide range of people. They are inhibited in conditions that call for regularity of work, timetables, self-discipline and monotony. Instead, they blossom out in the varied activities and challenges of public life. They are in fact trapped within their needs for excitement, drama and fast turn-over of events which are not usually experienced in domestic life. Though the tempo of public life takes an increasing toll on their physical and nervous resources they will not exchange this lifestyle for the relative peace and quiet enjoyed as a homemaker. Neither partner is likely to contribute positively or constructively towards domestic harmony and efficiency. They are more likely to disturb domestic tranquillity by bringing their problems home. The Twenty-Nine may occasionally yearn for periods of solitude but may not be able to summon sufficient strength of purpose to create such opportunities.

Though unsettled and restless as homemakers both partners are very much at home in society. They move with the times and identify themselves with a wide range of people and events. Their social life may be carried to such lengths that deprive them of time to be together and enjoy each other’s company. Their social attitudes are not necessarily the same. Fives could be manipulative of social situations, critical of people, sparing of compliments and generally in command of themselves in times of stress or embarrassment. Twenty-Nines could be effusive in their compliments, overestimate good qualities of people and overlook the bad ones, and thereby place too much trust in their associates. People and their sensibilities are of importance to the Twenty-Nine while the Five may concentrate more on activity and the pleasures they derive from their social contacts. Despite their global outlook Twenty-Nines show an innate dislike for noisy, crude and vulgar company. They are attracted to individuals and groups with cultural and spiritual affinities and experience deep emotions through close identification with the lives of their friends and acquaintances. Having the capacity to directly influence people and groups in their ways of doing things, and the courage to extricate themselves from tricky situations, Fives move in society with much greater freedom and detachment. They do not identify themselves with people as closely but, instead, acquire social popularity through their ability to motivate and organise. They also earn a measure of unpopularity when they overstep their limits and try to organise the movements and actions of people who resent ‘being told’ by others. Twenty-Nines are always popular as they give of themselves more than they demand from others and are often sought after as confidants and counsellors. They do have the need to protect themselves from harmful vibrations they are exposed to during these sessions.

Freedom from oral inhibition is a major feature of the extroverted temperaments of these partners. The capacity to transfer their thoughts into words and to do so with meaningful body language enhances their influence over others. Some Five personalities, however, may use their power of speech indiscriminately by being too outspoken, loud spoken, dismissive of opinions and failing to control their tendency to take over conversation. They may often hurt sensitive people without being aware of doing so. Twenty-Nines are seldom guilty of these offences as they know how to listen and remain receptive to contrary opinions. They are non-critical people who seldom say hurtful things directly or indirectly. They are also soft spoken and raise their voices and change their normally sophisticated body language only when their emotions are in rebellion. Alternatively, they could become totally uncommunicative if they fall into a mood of depression. Their need for periods of silence to ease tensions and indulge in contemplative pleasures may not always be met with a noisy Five partner around. Unlike the Five who uses speech as a ready outlet for their feelings, Twenty-Nines could bottle up their feelings and burst open when they could no longer be contained. The vocal talents of Fives and Twenty-Nines may not always be used advantageously in their own interaction. Fives have an irresistible urge to verbalise their thoughts and conflicting emotions are often translated into conflicting speech. Both partners are inclined to preach or sermonise but in each case there will be a fair gap between their precepts and practice.

Not only will business and social life keep these partners away from home for much of the time but their spare time activities will do so as well. Neither partner is likely to take much interest in home-based hobbies; the Five’s interest in all forms of sport, the Twenty-Nine’s cultural and spiritual interests and their mutual interest in travel will keep them frequently on the move. Motivated by curiosity, physical courage, competitiveness and ambition, Fives look for challenges in all their activities. Not only are they prepared to take on all competitors in sport but they also look for opportunities to match their courage and wits against the forces of nature. Refusing to accept the world of sense expression as the only reality Twenty-Nines may turn away from purely physical pleasures and apply their curiosity and courage in the mental and metaphysical realms. Music, literature, study groups, religious and charitable, medical and humanitarian organisations will attract their interest. Fives and Twenty-Nines are not individuals who suffer the destructive pangs of jealousy and possessiveness and are sure to support each other in their respective hobbies, but not necessarily with a sustained interest. As both are fond of dramatising themselves in various roles they could develop a mutual interest in theatre and dramatic art.

A shortcoming common to both temperaments which may not be overcome and consequently hinder their chances of establishing a secure lifestyle is their inability to handle money wisely. As in most of their other actions impatience, impulse, or emotionally backed demands govern their spending habits. Many unsuccessful attempts to place limits on spending may be made as neither partner will exercise genuine efforts to succeed. Both view money only as a means of obtaining immediate needs and do not worry about future expenditure. A crisis will frequently be reached when bills cannot be paid on time. The Twenty-Nine’s sense of rectitude is too strong to allow them to overlook debts or juggle their finances to tide over immediate demands. Fives will use their initiative and daring to shuffle their finances or resort to borrowing and gambling in order to overcome financial problems.

Ignoring orthodox concepts of morality both partners can abandon themselves freely to the pleasures of sexual experiences. Though their love life will be imaginative and romantic it will also be impacted by misunderstandings and arguments. To control this situation they should remain aware of their disposition towards emotional reaction and, at times, overreaction. As logical acceptance of facts often depends on their emotional state their judgments of each other’s motives could be swayed by their moods. The danger periods for this partnership arise when the Twenty-Nine falls into an incommunicable mood. Fives will refuse to understand and will look for pleasure elsewhere. Twenty-Nines, for their part, cannot tolerate isolation or being neglected and will not hesitate to look for comfort elsewhere if they feel they have been taken for granted and deprived of mental, physical and spiritual stimulation.

5TH AND 30TH BIRTHDAYS

Subjects of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd birthdays are almost identical to those born on the 10th, 20th and 30th. The only difference is an intensification of the 1, 2, and 3 vibrations as a result of the presence of the Zero. The 5th and 30th birthday combination will not be very different to the 3rd and 5th combination as the relationship formed in both instances will be with unqualified Three and Five personalities. While referring to the chapter on the 3rd and 5th birthdays the reader should keep in mind that both positive and negative aspects of the 3 vibration are more pronounced in the Thirty personality than in the Three.

5TH AND 31ST BIRTHDAYS

Interaction between a straightforward Five personality and a qualified Four personality will be seen in this combination. Their relationship will be the same as that between a Five and another qualified Four, namely an individual born on the 13th day of any month. It should be noted that the influence of the 3 vibration is slightly stronger in the Thirty-One than in the Thirteen, as it appears first, but this does not make any appreciable difference in their interaction with a Five personality.

The chapter on 5th and 13th birthdays should be consulted.
