Aquarius and Pisces

With a blow of their fists they made windows, and large yellow leaves were the blinds. But roses—?
Roses, cried Peter sternly.
Quickly they made-believe to grow the loveliest roses up the walls.

Roses? Certainly. Why not? A whole field of Dutch tulips, waving in the wind, if you like. These two can make believe, and eventually manifest, just about anything they should happen to choose. Uranus, the ruling planet of Aquarius, is called in astrology the Alchemist, and it’s true that most Water Bearers are inventive, mad, and miracle-minded. Only now and then does the Fixity of this particular Air Sign hamper the Uranian lightning flashes of the far-out, causing a few Aquarians to live like regular stick-in-the-muds, all unmindful of the glorious insanity (and genius) struggling to shimmer just beneath the surface of their Fixed habits and opinions, their somewhat monotonous lifestyles. I speak now, mind you, of the minority.

Ah! but when the Mutable Fish enters the abracadabra scene with Aquarius, the Fixity of even these rare Water Bearers is considerably gentled by the Pisces Water Element, and the Uranus essence is free then to break through. Of course, with the average Aquarian, nothing additional is needed for the baffling to break through. The Fish merely adds an extra dimension of madness and magic.

In nature, water softens air, creating a moist fog, just the right atmosphere for the mysterious alchemy capable of transmuting wishes and dreams into rainbow-streaked realities. In plainer talk, the Fish and the Water Bearer are good for one another, and also for this weary old world. There’s no end to the wonders and marvels they might conceive and create together. The list is long and varied. They could team up as archaeologists, and successfully dig for a trove of Tutankhamen-type treasures in the silent sands of Egypt … . . become missionaries at Broadway and Forty-second Street or on Eighth Avenue, in Manhattan (much more dangerous than the wilds of Africa or Borneo) … . . develop a communications system with whales and dolphins, so these splendid ones could be warned when the murderous whale boats are approaching… . invent a camera that photographs yesterday in color and tomorrow in surround sound … . . open a shop to repair guitars, tennis shoes, and spinning wheels … . . or any number of marvelous things, just so they aren’t musty and mundane.

The two of them would make a terrific detective team, with the Water Bearer as Sherlock Holmes, complete with spyglass, silly hat, and erratic habits, probing for precise facts and scientific clues—and the Fish as a far more sensitive, precognitive, and clever Dr. Watson than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s character. The moist fog of London, by the way, typifies the Water-Air blend I just mentioned, so it was an excellent and appropriate setting for the Holmes mysteries. With the unconventional, yet ultramethodical, Aquarian following the Piscean’s Neptune hunches, solving the Great Train Robbery, the Great Jewel Theft, or the Secret of Goldenrod Lane… . would be a piece of cake. It doesn’t matter whether the Pisces is a male, the Aquarian a female—or vice versa. Neither the age nor the sex of this team changes the potential for penetrating the unknown.

I know an Aquarian-Pisces couple who are a sort of private man-and-wife detective team, in a sense. Ray is a Ph.D. toxicologist, a professor at Indiana State University, and also one of the world’s foremost Lincoln scholars—an Aquarian who walks around with a microscope under one arm and a test tube tucked under the other, always misplacing his pencil behind his ear. She’s a gentle, very pretty female Fish, named Gus (for Augusta). Aquarian males often nickname their females with tags like George or Sam (makes them seem more like buddies), but this one’s nickname is for real. Her sensitive feelings and uncanny perceptions blend beautifully with his disciplined attention to detail and his undisciplined flashes of intuition. When these two clink their heads together, they can find an answer to most anything that’s puzzling to ordinary mortals. Sometimes their everyday magic stretches into a miracle, like the time they helped locate a missing child, alleged to be dead, for a close friend.

When the Fish and the Water Bearer get together in a mixture of boy-boy, girl-girl, boy-girl, or any other combination (Aquarius being the astrological sign of the unisex), they will deviate slightly from the normal in their behavior with one another, not to mention in their combined behavior toward others. Whether they’re found soaring and swimming around in an office, a church, a museum, a home, or a classroom, these two are really something to behold.

Stamped with the 2-12 Sun Sign Pattern, Aquarius should sense there’s something she or he should learn from Pisces, but Aquarians, you see, usually believe they already know most everything. The Water Bearer could, however, benefit from imitating the patience possessed by the typical Fish, since Aquarius has very little of the stuff. Pisces should react to the 2-12 vibration of their association with a sympathetic tolerance for the fancies and foibles, the eccentricities of Aquarius, and most Fish do—but some of them may react with nervousness to the Uranus disregard for public opinion. By nature, Pisceans tend to go out of their way to try to please people, whereas Aquarians are not bothered in the least if they please absolutely no one.

One matter which may be difficult to harmonize is the Neptunian tendency to be secretive, always keeping back a little something. This can drive the average Aquarian right up the curtains. Ordinarily, a Water Bearer is not interested in other people’s personal or private lives, Aquarius being the least likely of all Sun Signs to gossip, barring an afflicted Mercury in the horoscope. Under average conditions, these people are not super snoopy. But this man or woman is tempted and tantalized by deliberate elusiveness, and should this occur, out will come the spyglass, and the secret will be both perused and pursued. Aquarius simply cannot stand for Pandora’s Box to remain locked—once the Water Bearer has noticed it’s locked.

When it comes to the riddles or puzzles of life in general (or of people in particular), the Fish and the Water Bearer will delight in guessing the answers together, whether it’s why a fly must buzz in circles before it’s able to take off and fly in a straight line (a secret of energy, which hides a mystery of human emotion within it)… . or why those people across town are building a house in the shape of a pyramid. Aquarius will pop his or her head right in the window and ask. Pisces will hang back a few paces (the typical Fish wouldn’t dare intrude in such a manner with strangers) but be filled with curiosity and excitement to learn what the Water Bearer has discovered through the Uranian casual, yet direct, approach. These Aquarians will walk right up to people and ask the most astounding questions. They’re not intentionally rude—they simply want to know. Quite often, they find out because most of us are so surprised to be asked something like, Did you ever fill balloons with water and drop them out the window when you were small? that we answer immediately, without thinking twice. Only Sagittarius has more curiosity than Aquarius. (Leo and Scorpio are curious too, but it’s a more controlled kind of curiosity.) There’s a difference between gossip or snooping (as I mentioned a couple of paragraphs back) and the Uranus curiosity. An Aquarian won’t give two safety pins about why a neighbor has been married six times or what his bank balance may be—but she or he will unexpectedly ask why he painted his house pink, if he ever kept a pet snake, what he thinks about cloning, or if he ever earned a free ticket to the circus by carrying water to the elephants. It’s difficult to define.

Most Pisces don’t ask outright questions. Their guesses and psychic perceptions are usually so revealing they don’t need to query much. The Uranian hunches and natural intuition should allow the Water Bearer to guess just as effectively as Pisces, in silence, but Aquarians like to cover their bets and submit everything, including their own estimates, to a blue litmus-paper test. The Aquarian Fixity again, you see. They need to be sure that what they feel or sense is reliable—so they test it by asking.

There are many quirks and qualities Aquarius and Pisces have in common. Yet, there are also a few marked differences. Neptune folk are, for example, dreamy. Uranus folk dream too, but in a wilder, more crisscross pattern. The Fish likes art, music, and poetry, or most of them do. The Water Bearer likes these things too, but may prefer graphics or graffiti to a Goya, a xylophone or a hand organ, complete with monkey, to an ordinary piano—and the limericks of Lear or the fanciful trips of e. e. cummings to heavies like Wordsworth or sentimentalists like Browning.

These two will also probably lose their tempers differently. When Pisces becomes angry, he or she either spills out a stream of irritable words—or measures out a few soft-spoken, but clearly disapproving, sentences, then retreats in watery silence to the ocean floor, which frustrates the Aquarian, who can’t understand this way of coping with a disagreement. The Uranus way of meeting a misunderstanding is to explode quickly (and unpredictably) a few flashes of lightning and claps of thunder, expecting the storm to clear the air, then be forgotten. But Pisces remembers unpleasantness a bit longer than a few moments, and needs a time to meditate alone before swimming back out from behind the coral reefs.

On the subject of money, they are more or less alike. Some Aquarians care fully count every single penny they earn or spend—then promptly proceed to forget the total. Pisces is equally confused about cash. The Fish frequently keeps a bank balance in his (or her) head, on the back of an envelope—or on the wall, near the telephone. However, if they both should have the Moon or Ascendent in Virgo, they’ll behave like regular human calculators, these two. Of course, we’re studying the average or typical Water Bearer and Fish, as with all the Sun Signs, but I feel I should keep reminding you of the exceptions, whose other planetary positions dilute the Sun Sign qualities either a little or a lot. There won’t be as many of these as there are of the typical ones, but you’ll come across them, scattered here and there. Still, when you scratch the surface, you’ll find the basic qualities described pertaining to their Sun Signs, in one form or another, stamped upon the subconscious if not on the conscious level.

In helping Aquarius understand how to comprehend and cope with the Fish, astrology would counsel great amounts of gentleness, peace, and quiet. And imagination. The Neptune-ruled are easily made nervous by a lack of tranquility, and they need also constant abstract mental stimulation. A check of Webster’s definition of abstract would be constructive.

In helping Pisces understand how to comprehend and cope with Aquarius, I would personally advise memorization of an observation by Aquarian Abraham Lincoln… . they do what they do because they are what they are. No one could possibly sum up the Uranus nature more succinctly. It takes one to know one.

Aquarius Woman and Pisces Man

If he thought at all, but I don’t believe he ever thought, it was that he and his shadow, when brought near each other, would join like drops of water; and when they did not he was appalled.
… . . his sobs woke Wendy, and she sat up in bed. She was

not alarmed to see a stranger crying… . she was only pleasantly interested.

Aquarian women are not easy to shock or alarm, even less easy to surprise. The shocks, alarms, and surprises are mostly on their side of the fence. This female likes to keep her man in suspense by such picaroonish peccadilloes as suddenly appearing before him wearing brown-tinted contact lenses, and saying sweetly: Whatever gave you the idea I had blue eyes, darling?—phoning him on his lunch hour with the cheerful message: I became restless hanging around the house, so I decided to fly to Mexico and go surfing. Could you catch a plane after work and join me?—using his hairbrush to comb out the silken strands of her Oriental rug—or perhaps waking him in the middle of the night with the sound of another man’s sensual voice in his ear. (It’s only a small tape recorder under her pillow, so she can learn the Italian language while she sleeps, but she forgot to tell him. Well, how could she tell him, for gosh sakes, when he came home and ate dinner and then went right to bed without even saying goodnight?) Rule Number One. Don’t bore this woman. Her boredom threshold is extremely low.

Of course, the Fish, although he doesn’t have a habit of shocking people himself, is almost as hard to surprise as she is, so he may not be unduly shaken over her antics, such as a Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn man might be. Pisces understands human nature, even freaky human nature. It’s all part of being resigned to having been born into a world of misfits, which takes in not just Aquarians but the entire population of the planet. The Neptune-ruled are enormously tolerant of behavioral oddities. All Pisces men contain a trace of the confessional priest or the contemplative monk. They also have hiding somewhere within them an Einsteinish sort of abstract reasoning … and a playful dolphin. They can be regular geniuses in things like mathematics and mechanics, but they also like to walk in the rain and pick daffodils, sleep outdoors and watch the Milky Way twinkling at Regulus on a summer night … and make dandelion rings. I guess, when you ponder it profoundly, a Pisces man definitely possesses enough curious charisma to keep an Aquarian female from becoming bored.

Most Pisces males are, except during their rare moments of crankiness (always for good reason), on the whole, considerate and thoughtful fellows, with rather shy, gentle, and benevolent dispositions. The Fish will usually give his family—or the woman he loves—everything he owns. Of course, if he’s a certain kind of Piscean, he may not own much of a material nature to give. For one thing, others may have borrowed or taken it from him already. For another, he tends to procrastinate, to put off his dreams for another day … which can stretch into years. Pisces often turns away from facing the cold, hard demands Life makes upon those who aspire to substantial worldly success.

If he’s the opposite kind of Fish, he has enough talents, and is gifted with sufficient direction to achieve both recognition and financial compensation in nearly any endeavor he might wish to undertake. He will enjoy the finer things of Life and will be well fitted to purposefully pursue the material pattern necessary to attain them. These are the Pisceans astrology refers to as Whales—still gentle, still playful, psychic and benevolent—but with far more power and aggressive drive than the Neptune dreamers. Whichever kind of Fish the Aquarian female loves, she won’t count the cost of the material things he gives her, for he’s just as willing to give her the intangibles … his thoughts and dreams … his ideas and ideals … his visions and perceptions … and his vulnerable heart.

All those things are worth far more than electric organs, Haviland china, car ports, expensive gifts, and household trinkets. They should certainly be worth more to the Aquarian woman, whose sense of values is normally tuned in to the true and genuine. Unless she was born with a more materialistically oriented Moon Sign or Ascendent, the typical Water Bearer of the female gender is able to discriminate between the real and the phony with little effort. She understands that the intangible is often what is real… . and treasures things that can’t be perceived by the senses.

The Fish who loves her may expect always the unexpected from this lady. Unconventional behavior, however mildly unconventional, is the mold into which she was poured in the womb. Her name may be Leslie, the ballerina, or Broomhilda. Her job may be sweeping chimneys—or she may have an ordinary name, like Ruth Edwards, and be a bank teller. But she will be, to repeat, at the very least, mildly unconventional. Aquarian women can be surprisingly practical in day-to-day matters like Banking and such (some of them are brilliant with math, and able to add whole columns of figures in their heads). Nonetheless, they are . . different in some way. If you meet a nice, quiet, conservative bank teller named Ruth, who was born in February, don’t form a judgment without first asking her fellow employees, her husband, or her family a few discreet questions. You may be in for a jolt. She might drive a tractor to work on snowy days, tote her lunch in a gym bag, wear snowshoes behind the counter, have a hobby of checking Russian timetables to see how often their trains are late, use a genuine antique quill pen from the desk of Abe Lincoln to write out a wire transfer—or secretly collect Archie comics. And … did you notice that tiny tattoo of the Wizard of Oz just above her right elbow? She is … somehow … different.

The Aquarian woman’s love for humanity and her innate kindness shine through everything she says or does. However, her love for humanity is no barrier to her lack of concern regarding what people think. Her Pisces lover or husband may have more than one cause to blush over her refusal to live her life to please the folks next door. Not that she’ll do anything really dreadful, but it could be a mite embarrassing if she decides to keep a chicken coop on the front porch, sings ancient Incan mantras in the backyard, in the moonlight, or runs the electric lawnmower about five A.M., just before sunrise, wearing her trainman’s hat and overalls, shouting ALL ABO—A—RD! because she has this nostalgic thing about the trains she rode as a child. People don’t always understand.

The Aquarian woman and the Pisces man have similar ideas about promises. They both mistrust them, and dislike to make them—to one another or to anyone else. The Fish will occasionally break his own rule and make a promise, only to slide away from it later, should changing circumstances prevent him from keeping it. An Aquarian woman will tell you right out that she doesn’t like to make a promise, because she might have to break it. It’s a unique form of Uranus integrity. No one should make promises or swear on things, believes Aquarius, for the sensible reason that no one can predict with certainty what might happen. Usually, all you can persuade this woman to say is that she’ll try as best she can to do tomorrow what she believes she wants to do today. That’s about as far as she’ll go. Promises are for those who like to fool themselves, and others, into thinking they totally control their own future feelings.

The very first thing the Uranus-ruled woman is likely to do when she falls in love with a Pisces man is to tell him her problems, ideas, thoughts, and theories, to see what he thinks of them. She won’t use him as a shoulder to cry upon as much as a sounding board for projected action. Strangely, she will listen to much of his advice. But in a few matters, she’ll go her merry way, despite his wiser counsel. Then, when she stumbles, he will tenderly pick her up and comfort her. She reaches for his hand, and it’s always there. Even for an unpredictable Aquarian woman, that’s a nice, cozy feeling.

Well, to be honest, sometimes he may not be there. He’s capable of suddenly disappearing—or perhaps not suddenly, but gradually. Normally, the Fish is emotionally dependable. He’ll take a great deal before his limit is reached. But when he can no longer bear the hurt and the pain, in whatever form it takes, he will swim softly away, rather than face the continual wear and tear of confrontation.

The Aquarian woman is capable of the same sort of disappearance, except that her vanishing act is the kind you see on a stage, with a magician. Presto! Now you see her—now you don’t. She fades into memory, like the magician’s brightly colored silk scarves and fluffy white rabbits. Like the Pisces male, she, too, can bear only a certain amount of growing tension before deciding to release herself from an emotional prison. Unlike many others, this woman catches on early in life to the esoteric truth that she is her own jailer and warden, that she herself, and no one else, holds the key to her own freedom.

The sexual relationship of the Fish and Water Bearer is often more of an experiment than an experience, at least in the beginning. Each is a degree dubious about the wisdom of submitting one’s whole self to another. Bodies are less important. These two lovers will go through all the motions of lovemaking, and yet not be certain this is a total union, until the spirit catches up with the desire and need of the flesh. When this does occur, the physical demonstration of their love is, for him—the realization of a long-cherished dream; for her—another of life’s ecstatic joys. Not the only one—but a very special, enchanted one. For, in truth, she loves Life itself, with all its varied surprises, far too much to ever place all her hopes in only one of its miracles. Still, these two can discover more poetic meaning to the naturalness of their physical intimacies than many other couples suspect can be attained.

First and foremost, however, before this woman will totally commit herself to the man she loves, he must prove to her that he is her friend—her real friend—that he desires not just to possess her heart and her body, but to blend their minds as well. The barest hint of disloyalty on the friendship level, and she’ll turn as cold as the first frost of winter. Friendship comes first to Aquarius, love second—and sex is an enjoyable, but not-to-be-overrated third. This is not to say she isn’t passionate, for she is. It depends upon your definition of passion. Mental affinity, mental intercourse, if you will, in its purest meaning, adds a deeper dimension to passion, always. The Uranus-ruled sense this truth within themselves, long before others ever learn it.

The greatest weakness of a Pisces man is the possibility that he may neglect his personal welfare, and carelessly disregard his own needs and rights, because of his tendency to give both his time and his money to those who need his help. But to his Aquarian woman, self-sacrifice is not a weakness. It’s a strength, without which a man is not really a man—let alone qualified to be her friend.

The greatest character flaw in the Aquarian woman is her Fixed refusal to conform, her thirst for change, and her hunger for adventure. But to her Pisces man, unconventionality is not a flaw. It’s what made him love her in the first place, because it’s so much like his own. Being just a little crazy together is the stuff from which their magic is made.

Yes, they will argue, even frequently. But it’s a funny thing about arguments between a man and woman who love each other. You imagine that you’re quarreling about this or that, when what you both really mean is—I want you. After all her Uranus guessing games are over, after all his Neptune evasions fade away, that’s what matters.

Aquarius Man and Pisces Woman

In her extremity an instinct told her to which of them to turn.
Tootles, she cried, I appeal to you.
Was it not strange? She appealed to Tootles, quite the silliest one.
Grandly, however, did Tootles respond. For that one moment he dropped his silliness, and spoke with dignity.
I am just Tootles, he said, and nobody minds me. But the first who does not behave to Wendy like an English gentleman I will bloody him severely.

Trust a Pisces woman to know instinctively what less sensitive, less perceptive maidens often miss. Despite his strangeness, his undeniably odd behavior, the curious way his ears wiggle; despite his absentmindedness, and the faraway look in his eyes—this man was born under the influence of a masculine sign, and he is, in addition, ruled by a masculine planet. Besides all that, he is an idealist, protector of the weak. No one is more suited to play the role of male animal than the Aquarius man. He can be unexpectedly Flash Gordon-like, or Clark Kent-like, capable of great courage in the clutch of calamity, and therefore, totally equipped to defend his lady against danger at all times. A magnificent macho hides behind his freaky facade. He’s a man’s man, the kind who used to make women faint in the movies. Actor Clark Gable, who played Rhett Butler in Gone With The Wind, was a Sun Sign Aquarian.

This works out rather nicely when his faraway look accidentally lights upon a Neptune woman. In beautiful and marked contrast to his maleness, is her femininity. Pisces, remember, is a feminine sign, and she is also ruled by a feminine planet. Talk about polarities, about opposites attracting! These two will usually feel the pull of Nature’s basic magnetism within minutes after they meet. If there’s any female who can turn a Water Bearer’s interest away from his hobby of people-watching and all forms of investigation, to research of a more personal nature, on a more intimate level, it’s a female Fish.

Aquarian men are, as I’ve pointed out elsewhere in this book (and also in my first book, Sun Signs), as a rule, not terrifically hung up on the attraction between the sexes. Yet, when he meets a Pisces woman, the Water Bearer may suddenly become acutely aware of his sexuality (not to mention hers), causing him to behave in a very strange manner. That is, stranger than his normal manner, and this could be very strange indeed. It might make her believe he actively dislikes her.

She should not allow herself to be so misled, just because: when she drops her white angora sweater, he walks on it with his muddy boots—he takes her to the theatre, then wanders up to the balcony to munch his popcorn alone (because he’s forgotten where they were sitting)—he calls her up and asks if he can borrow her dog to take for a walk, without asking her to go along—or he blows up a paper bag and pops it near her ear, then laughs hysterically, when she’s wondering if he noticed her new perfume. He has noticed it. He has, he has! That’s why he blew up the paper sack and popped it. It kept his hands busy, when they were straining to reach out and gently touch her cheek. Only sissies behave like that. And he is no sissy. What will his pals, his buddies, all his friends think? That kind of nonsense is for romantic sentimentalists, not for him. Wait. He’ll come around.

The Pisces lady who weeps herself to sleep because the Aquarian man she’s fallen in love with has been treating her with (calculated) detachment, as though she totally turns him off (when he’s actually so turned on by her he’s forgotten what year it is), should memorize these few lines from a poem I once wrote to expose this sort of situation.

I must go now …
don’t hold me with your eyes
and reach your heart across the room like that
or my own will break
love you? of course I love you
that’s why I have to go … before you know
how much<a href=#filepos3368038″>*

These two will make love on a mental level rather nicely. In fact, on their honeymoon. Yes, they got as far as the honeymoon. Once a Neptune female has caught on to this man’s romantic pretenses, stops crying, and starts seducing, he hasn’t a chance. On their honeymoon, they could spend lots of hours trying to figure out the answers to nutty questions, like: If their two Mickey Mouse watches keep ticking the time farther and farther apart from each other, at a definite rate, how long would it be before both of their watches tell the same time? He’ll try algebra, she’ll try meditating. In her confused Neptune way, she’ll remark that it couldn’t happen, because her grandma taught her that two wrongs never make a right. He will not hear her. He is busy figuring. Then, in her confused Neptune way, she’ll ask him if the answer is supposed to be: When will both of their watches tell the same time—or the correct time? This sort of question will, of course, negate all his careful calculations, causing him to throw his pencil sharpener across the floor in a sudden Uranus fit of frustration. She will remain as calm as can be, and in her confused Neptune way, she’ll smile at him dreamily, then murmur that, as far as making love is concerned, any time is the right time. His ears will turn red, he will grin, remove his Mickey Mouse watch… . the lights in their room will go off… . and …

I usually don’t describe the physical relationship between couples of the various Sun Sign Patterns this soon into the section, but with a man who is all man, and a woman who is all woman, this kind of thing begins early. There’s really no need to cause them to blush (both blush easily) by detailing the joys of their sexual compatibility. Everything is as Nature intended it to be, and this means a smooth and harmonious blending of two separate individuals into the explosive Oneness of mating. Only if there is an aspect of tension between their Luminaries (Sun and Moon), or otherwise negative mutual planet positions in their nativities, will this man and woman have any difficulty achieving real happiness through the closeness of their physical union. I believe we’d best leave it at that, since both Pisces and Aquarius resent even the slightest invasion of their personal privacy, from Big Brother—or Big Sister.

Of course, this isn’t altogether fair of either of them, since she’s so adept at psychically knowing so much about everyone she meets, and he’s able to investigate every hello from his friends (and even strangers) and come up with practically their entire life history from this one clue.

Now and then, not being perfect, the Pisces woman will unintentionally do something to trigger her Water Bearer’s unpredictable temper. All Aquarians have a problem leaving well enough alone. Instead of ignoring any angry incidents between them, as he should, considering this woman’s ultrasensitive feelings, he’s tempted to leave no stone unturned to prove he’s right, and she’s wrong. Let’s say, for an example, that they live in the country and have a large vegetable garden. One day, he’ll plant some flower seeds near the cabbages and tomatoes, carrying out some complicated green-thumb idea he hasn’t bothered to mention to her. She’ll be watering the cabbages someday, notice them, and pull them up, thinking they’re stinkweeds. He’ll erupt into one of his Uranian electrical storms, causing her to retreat into wounded silence, her eyes misting, her hands trembling. If she makes the mistake of insisting they’re weeds, to defend her action, he’ll sure enough take one of the seedlings she pulled up and plant it in a brass spittoon. He’ll nurse it secretly, talk to it, sing it the Flower Drum Song, sprinkle it with plant food… . and when it blooms into a beautiful, velvety-petaled, yellow and purple pansy, plunk it down in front of her granola on the kitchen table some sunny noontime, and say triumphantly, Here’s one of the stinkweeds you missed in your purge. She’ll run upstairs, slam the bedroom door, and weep, because he’s gone to so much trouble to prove she was wrong—and he’ll probably not have any idea why she’s so upset. In such manner does the disruptive influence of Uranus sometimes disturb the delicacy of the Neptune vibration. After a few years together, he’ll learn to tread more softly on her tender heart, and she’ll learn he doesn’t love her any the less just because he’s so dead set on proving himself to be right in every minor and major matter. But before they both learn, there will be some pain.

As with all 2-12 Sun Sign Patterns, she’s more tolerant of him than others may be, because he represents to her the twelfth house of Karma, where she has resided more recently than she likes to even subconsciously recall. She doesn’t want to return to such concentration on investigation and curiosity, because she’s advanced in her present existence to accepting many things on faith alone, but she remembers the pitfalls of the Uranus experience, and sympathizes, because they’re familiar to her Higher Self. She represents to him the next lesson he has to learn in human evolvement, and he’s not certain he wants to enroll in the course. But he peeks at the textbook now and then, through her eyes… . and learns a great deal through her example.

Unless Venus was afflicted at her birth, the typical Pisces woman is spared the torture of jealousy that plagues some of her other astrological sisters. She will seldom suspect him of unfaithfulness, and that alone smooths out a lot of the wrinkles in their relationship. There’s not a whole lot to suspect this man of anyway (barring, of course, an afflicted Venus or Mars in his horoscope, which happens once in a while), because the typical Aquarian man finds quite enough emphasis on the man-woman relationship with one female without running around looking for complications. Romance and physical passion are very nice, he has nothing against either or both, in fact, he’s investigated them and found them to be surprisingly satisfying in every possible way—but there’s little danger that he’ll concentrate on this to the exclusion of all the other fun they have together, and practically no danger that he’ll flirt with the neighbor, even if she comes to the door in a bikini to borrow his hedge clippers. He may enjoy the view, and tease his Pisces woman a little after the neighbor leaves, but then he’ll get right back to his latest interest, whether it’s running for governor of the state, reading his Sherlock Holmes book, working on the plans for their new solar-heated house, or feeding his parakeet.

She’ll smile, and busy herself too, helping him when he needs her, but otherwise leaving him alone to putter around in his mind. It’s rather wonderful to be in love with—and be loved by—a genius. Life may be a little mad, but it’s never monotonous. She never knows what to expect next. Like just now, he told her to look in the bottom desk drawer. Wondering, she did, and there was a white angora tam, with a scarf to match. Surprise! he says, and winks at her. It’s lovely, she replies, but what’s the occasion for the gift?

Aquarius: No occasion. It’s no special day or anything. I was just remembering yesterday, about that time I walked on your white angora sweater with my muddy boots, seven or eight years ago, and how you didn’t even mention it.
Pisces: But that was so long ago. How sweet of you to think about it, after all this time on an ordinary day, for no special reason. Thank you! It’s really beautiful. A lovely Wednesday morning surprise.

Actually, today is their wedding anniversary, and he hasn’t the foggiest notion of it (on a conscious level). But she won’t say a word. She’ll just smile, blow him a gentle kiss… . and water the purple pansies on the windowsill.
